Ship Inn in Waveney

Nine of us went in there on Saturday 22nd June for lunch and we weren't disappointed would highly recommend going in there Donna and her staff were very friendly and very helpful. I hadn't been in there for 30yrs but as we were up that way we had to try it. It's, changed a lot but for the best. Thankyou Donna for the photo shoot 😁😁 ☺️

It was for my husband David’s Wake, I can’t recommend The Ship enough it was very respectful, welcoming & the buffet was excellent a very good choice & very fresh, so thank you to everyone, would recommend it when it is such a sad time, Debbie & family very kind.

Amazingly clean, friendly and a warm Welcome. Food stunning, it's not a fast food restaurant everything is freshly cooked so don't expect to order and have it on the table in 5 minutes. A multi tasking team from sports to a lovely dinning side.

We hadn’t booked and grabbed the last table. Attentive staff and the onion rings are to die for! Thank you chef Lovely choice and adapted dishes to suit our needs

Don't bother going!!! Steaks weren't cooked as ordered - really long wait, yes got a free bottle of wine, but didn't compensate for the quality of the food ! Definitely won't be coming back again!

A nice family run pub with great staff, Called in after finding out pub is under new management, Had a Sunday roast as was good although not the cheapest at £13 for a roast with another extra £3 for sirloin cut of beef, Very nice staff though as a very clean pub too, Overall was good..

Absolutely fabulous. We didn't fancy a full on roast as weather on the humid side. Fantastic pick of tapas roast baps. I had beautiful bowl of roasties with a jug of gravy. The place is ultra clean. Toilets ....mint clean. Food amazing. Plus they do 2 courses for £10 Wednesdays to Saturday. Car parking. Friendly staff and !!!!!!! Friendly Owners 10 out of 10

A great place to Dine. Also, its under recent new management . The wait for food can be a little long during busy times. However, as its prepared fresh each day, its to be expected. I love the fish dishes and my wife says the beef and Ale pies are to die for. I tasted her pie as there was so much beef, she couldn't eat it all and it was absolutely delicious. We will be back again, for sure.

The food was really nice after they clarified what we were ordering was vegetarian. It was freshly cooked and delicious. However, I’d called them three times with a message saying they’d call me back and no-one did. Not only had I left a message, while we were there an elderly fellow came in also saying he’d left two messages to try to book a table and hadn’t heard back. It turns out that the new management have a new phone number, but all the sites giving the pub’s details online give out the former owner’s number, which isn’t responded to. This meant we had to book in person. The times listed on Trip Advisor aren’t correct anymore. The pub’s restaurant is open from 12-2pm and then in the evening from 6pm Wednesday to Sunday.

We visited the Ship several times whilst on holiday in Pakefield. Most friendly welcome by staff and locals. Our dog Ted enjoyed the fuss made of him! Staff are amazing here - really friendly and attentive. Had Tapas one evening which was absolutely delicious. Hats off to the chef! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a welcoming dog friendly place to eat an drink.

We booked a table here on Sunday. A couple of us ordered the Sunday roast, which was a choice between lamb, beef or chicken. And the rest of us ordered from the tapas menu. All food portions were generous. Service was brilliant throughout. Staff were all friendly. We also ordered the desserts, the banoffee waffle was amazing, definitely will get that again.

Went for Sunday Lunch and had to Share how good this was.We had the Roast Lamb.Other Choice of meats was Beef or Chicken.Food was lovely and hot .Side order of Vegetables. Also Red Cabbage snd Mashed Swede.Lovrly Roast Potatoes and Homemade Yorkshire puds.Will definitely Return.Not forgetting the Lovely Welcoming Staff where nothing was to much Trouble.

We ate here on a Friday evening. We had booked but the restaurant was very quiet - surprising considering how much we enjoyed the food. We ordered five dishes, and being tapas-Friday the most expensive was free, that came to £26. Food was really good. We decided to finish with a cheese-board each - wow they were huge! Wine was a sensible price too. Service was friendly and helpful.

Went there on 27 th me and my wife had curry club menu for 2 which was great but too much for 2. Daughter had a veggie burger and a desert. Can’t fault anything with the food and staff were brilliant, great finish to the week. Andy Payne

Great Tapas as a main or a starter. Moroccan lamb and pork ribs really good, enormous portions. Also GF. Lovely waitress, great service really good pub food. Sunday lunch was very nice. Highly recommend.

We went for Sunday lunch. Excellent food and very friendly staff. Please do not judge this pub from the outside only. Inside is lovely and very well presented. They have kept many of the original features of the old pub with a modern twist. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend a visit.

Fantastic pub. The food was completely unexpected, much more than we had hoped for when we set out to find a nice meal whilst away on holiday for a long weekend. The staff were amazing......warm, welcoming and very professional. We also met the landlord who made us feel so at home. We will return to The Ship when we come back next year! Thanks guys :)

We came upon this place by pure accident. The welcome was excellent and the service was spot on. The quality of the food was top notch and there was so much of it. We were bursting at seams when we had finished and all six of us felt we had hit jackpot with our choices. Whilst the surroundings may not of been the finest, the food was incredible. Without a doubt, we will return when we are next in the area. 10 out of 10!

We both enjoyed our starters particularly the salt and pepper squid. My partner chose the halumi while i choose the aged sirloin steak for mains.Presented lovely. Along with the wonderful chips. Once again my partner enjoyed his. Unfortunately my steak was awful and i have never seen so much fat and gristle on a sirloin steak. The camera never lies. More gristle and fat than meat. What i did eat was nice. I just can't believe the same chef sent this out. Louise did a check but at the time i had only tucked into the onion rings. I should have sent it back. But from the remains you could clearly see the fat and gristle.My partner had the last piece of dessert. But louise had made her famous fudge...so i enjoyed that. Delicious. Service always great. Keep safe.

I was impressed right from the start by the friendly response to my telephone call booking a table.Our table for 6 was ready when we arrived.Service was quick and the food was delicious with generous portions.If we lived any closer, we would be back on a regular basis!

My wife and I have just returned home after a week away in our campervan and felt u must write a review on this restaurant.The service was very welcoming,the food was outstanding and it was all done with excellent value for money.The quality of food will take some beating in our opinion and the owners should be do proud of the chef's food taste and presentation.

We had a fantastic meal from the tapas menu. There was a wide choice to suit everyone. The menu was explained to us with advice on how many tapas to order. The food was piping hot, tasty and well presented. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was really warm and friendly. The people on the table next to us had the curry night special which looked delicious. We will definitely return to try all the other tempting dishes! Many thanks

Me and my wife decided to go here last Wednesday night to try the tapas. I've heard a lot of good things about it and being a chef myself thought I must give it a try. The Salt and pepper squid was delicious along with the pork stir fry, bbq ribs and duck pancakes...all of which were excellent. I said to the waitress (who was very friendly) that I simply didn't have room for dessert so the chef made us up a small complimentary dessert plate which was enough get a taste of it which is all We wanted after our filling tapas and I must say the white chocolate fudge was amazing. Thank you the ship.

YUM! The food was fantastic - each dish was full of flavour and cooked perfectly. To top it off they had a great deal on a Saturday evening - buy 4 tapas and get 2 sides free! Highly recommend a visit for tapas!

Really surprised to find that the Ship now only do tapas but we were very pleasantly surprised. There's a huge range of choices and it's priced very reasonably. Specials too. An excellent meal, would thoroughly recommend.

This is my local and have been to this public house many of times, however yesterday I was finally able to get the time to try the new tapas menu, just wow! Amazing flavour and exceptional value for money. The staff behind the bar are always pleasant, the toilets are always spotless and the beer is always good.

An unexpected half day lead to a quick decision to go out for lunch, didn’t want a big meal so decided to go for the Tapas menu. Over 20 choices, and including many GF & Veggie. A ‘Smorgasbord’ of delights, all tasty & well presented. Highly recommended.

We thourougly enjoyed our food. We were served by the nicest young girl. She couldn't have been more helpful. My husband and granddaughter had the hot dogs, I had the fish and our daughter the pie which she raved about. I have eaten at several Lowestoft hotels but the food here is hot, fresh and delicious ...far superior.

Had a 3 course Christmas meal with my partner, his brother and his partner and a friend, really enjoyed my prawn cocktail, my favourite starter and then had turkey dinner with all the trimmings yum yum, and my Christmas pudding was lovely. We was all stuffed after that thanks we will be back again.

Absolutely spotless! A bit out of the way on Stradbrooke Road, but definitely worth a visit. Usual 'pub' menu but - priced accordingly. The Landlord is a charming chap - and (an odd point from me) Absolutely the cleanest Gents Lavatory I have ever been in; my friend assures me that the 'Ladies' is even better!

Had a nice meal here with my husband and daughter. Good choice for vegetarians and the small restaurant area is lovely. Not super posh but nicely done and very reasonably priced. Although the pub is big it has a great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Have lived in the area all my life but never popped in, no particular reason but i made my maiden vogue yesterday. I was pathetically excited. Initially promising with its size, play area, double bar i was slapped in the face with an oar of disappointment. Was the kind of place where shipmates sit at the bar/block the bar, not very welcoming for a new deck hand and the staff aren’t the type to look beyond the seated row if you get what I’m saying. Now sure if that incompetence or deliberate. Gave them the benfit of the doubt, however the attitude of the old dear serving was unjustifiably rude and abrupt. Shame because with the right people the pub could be the one of the best in Lowestoft, but never with its current occupancy. I hear the Captain is a nice fella but unfortunately must have been his day off or busy doing something else. Hiding perhaps. My mate re-named the pub. Anyone for a pint down “The Sh*t On, Pakefield”? Lol. Nah, i’m Good. Its stuck. Oh, no need to to take your own anchor, you’ll find one or two when you get there.

We have eaten here on several occasions and not been disappointed. The service is excellent as is the food. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

Visited the ship for a roast with 4 friends at the weekend. Such delicious food, a varied menu, knowledgeable recommendations from the staff, professional service and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The meals are very reasonably priced and extremely satisfying!

Cuando llegamos fuimos a la derecha, que parecía un bar más tranquilo. Inmediatamente nos dijeron que ir a otro bar para ser servido. La señora mayor que no estoy seguro de si ella es la encargada o gerente necesita una capacitación en serio en cómo hablar a la gente. Esto no es la primera vez. Ella es abrupto y bastante grosero. Las bebidas no son buenos tampoco apenas y el hielo y los vasos son baratos corto vasos. No regresaré no es mi idea de una buena noche de sábado!

Had a superb lunch at the Ship today my 2 grandsons are on a visit from West Yorkshire and I wanted to give them the experience of good pub food as always the meal was unsurpassed our congratulations to the Landlord and Landlady on having such a wonderful chef who cooks a sublime meal my 19 year old Grandson had ordered theGammon and stated it was the best he had ever had praise indeed from a very discerning young man who has dined in the finest restaurants in Germany would have no hesitation in recommending the Ship top marks for quality service and excellent value for money my personal thanks to mein hosts for a most enjoyable experience look forward to seeing you again in the near future .

Came here for a special food night and really enjoyed it, food was amazing, we will definitely be back.

Mi amigo y yo acabamos de pasar domingo almuerzo en el barco. Estaba delicioso. La carne era tierna, el budín de yorkshire era casero y las verduras frescas estaban cocinados a la perfección. Mi único comentario negativo es que la salsa podría haber sido un poco más gruesos. Sin duda volvería allí.

Acabamos de regresar después de la celebración de una boda familiar... la comida era dorada pre ordenados y era muy agradable, abundante y sin presentar, sin embargo, la única crítica sería que podría haber sido más caliente. El entorno es precioso y el personal era muy agradable y el servicio fue muy bueno.

A lovely pub in Pakefield, Lowestoft. Six of us had dinner here and it was truly lovely. The kitchen staff know their stuff and the waitresses were lovely. A hidden gem!! I will return soon!! I wish you well.

We had a great starter, main and pudding all very tasty and home made. Service was friendly and easy with information about all courses. The lady went out of her way, and made us very welcome. We will be going back soon.

Popped in with hubby last night on the recommendation of a friend. The last time I was here a few years back the shi was a bit term questionable to say the least but we braved it anyway. Apparently it was fish and chips night so we couldn't turn that down! All I can say is the fish (cod) was cooked beautifully, the chips, or potato wedges really, were to die for and the pub is gorgeous. A far cry from when I was last here a few years ago. A+

We had a lovely home cooked reasonable meal for my dad's birthday, ages from 18 to 85 & enough choice on menu to please everyone. Friendly staff, a very enjoyable visit.

We were so pleased with the food & service we received here. A warm and inviting atmosphere with friendly staff. The food was fantastic and we were amazed at what was on offer for the price. Lovely location, overlooking the sea on top of Pakefield cliffs, nice to watch the boats going past. The décor is lovely since the refurbishment and the food is good too.

We had a group of 13 for a Christmas meal, we each paid £25 for a three course meal which not a single one of us enjoyed. Please don't try the brownie it's just sponge that's burned. I was really disappointed not only because of the food but there was no atmosphere in the restaurant, no Christmas music and the lady that served us was rude and unfriendly. We then decided to move from the restaurant and try to enjoy the rest of the night with live entertainment which just wasn't what we were hoping for, it was depressing which no actual entertaining. I'm sad to review what used to be a great pub with only negative comments but I wouldn't want another Christmas Party to be tainted by such poor service. I'm sure it's a great place for a drink or to watch the football but we certainly won't be returning.

After a really long day walking & enjoying the sun, we went & sat outside. Beatiful views over the sea & sands. Went inside $ it's very smart and crisp. Not a comfortable place to enter in your walking boots as it seemed to be for posh lunches & evening drinks. Felt like a poor cousin sat outside looking through the windows. The Menu wasn't extensive and although we were famished we went off to check for a Fish & Chippy.........

Nice clean pub, bar staff friendley good selection of beer.I went there with my wife and daughter for Friday lunc.My daughter and I had scampi, my wife ordered chicken strips.When the meals arrived the chips looked over cooked a bit to brown for me.The scampi was ok nothing special had a lot better. The wife's chicken strips the batter was over cooked some would say burnt the plate was covered in grease.She did try to eat it but far to greasy, being a gent and I can eat most things we exchanged plates even for me it was inpossable as the grease was dripping.When asked if every thing was ok I did ex plane the the bar staff and she looked at the plate and agreed with me. She took the plates away and said she would tell the chief.But we never got any feed back or asked if we would like to order anything else or even offered a part refund as we paid up front.

Great fish and chips for £5.50 on Wednesday 6-9pm. Surprised there weren't more people there! We'll be back.

Working in Lowestoft today and was recommended to visit The Ship Inn.Not the most upmarket of districts and the pub looked unexciting from outside, however this has got to be the best £5.50 in East Anglia!Lovely fresh, pure white fish (cod), nice side salad and plenty of chips (probably frozen).Excellent pint of the local Trawlerboys bitter at a fair price. Friendly and attentive staff. Will certainly visit again when working in the area.

I bought a house vodka and lemonade for £4.50.. seemed a bit expensive. No music on so atmosphere was bland.

Mmmm, went for a lazy pub lunch on Sunday, we had a starter to share - squid and crispy noodles, my partner had roast beef, I had roast pork and our friend had the burger! Delicious! We took advantage of the deals on food and had dessert too! Rum chocolate mousse, cheesecake and apple pie with custard. Nice portion sizes, relaxed vibe and excellent service! loving the ship!

We were staying at nearby pontins and wanted to watch the football and rugby but no sky..so googled nearest pub with sky and this little pub popped up...so off we went...The pub seems quiet small on 1st arriving but once in its very roomy....a bar area and an area for food also a beer garden...we didn't eat here but the food looked really nice...It was a lovely clean pub with lots of charmThere was a really friendly atmosphere the football was Norwich v Ipswich....anybody that knows football knows they don't get on...our party of 6 and another party of 4 were the only Ipswich fans but the Norwich fans were so friendly...lots of great banter,...was a really good afternoon and we would certainly go back and try the food next time we are that way The toilets need a mention....I can only speak for the ladies but they were fab,...very clean and very nicely decorated....

This pub, since it changed hands and Charlie & Sally now run it, has become a brilliant local pub with a really good sort of clientele, the right "local" atmosphere, great service, great beer and great food!Tonight my wife and I popped in for a quick drink and a game of pool, but the smell of food from the busy restaurant area was overwhelming, so we stayed on for a bar meal and several games of pool! I had a homemade burger with blue cheese, with jalapeno salsa and handcut chips....wow, what a burger it was! The best I have ever had in a meal out. Really thick, juicy, full of flavour and onions ~ just great! My wife had whitebait and we were both well impressed!Charlie is a genial and friendly host who remembers what you drink as soon as you walk in, and is always ready for a chat and humour.It is great to see this pub turned around into what it has become ~ well done Charlie and Sally!

The Landlord is a very decent and gracious man,i cannot say the same of the landlady and her clicky staff!!! I will be taking this above their heads!!! I take great offence at being called a RETARD by a patron who frequents this establisent and who is part of "THE CLICK" !Need to clear their lines more often also! The Aspalls was disgusting !!!

Partner and I have had lunch here last week. New managers were very friendly and welcoming. Very clean, Food was lovely and good value for money. Will definitely be back soon

Had a great meal here last night, cheesecake was fantastic! have had some good nights out here and think the new owners have made some simple but effective changes. I like that there are different areas in the pub-dance area, cosy restaurant and a traditional bar. Food is good value and the service was prompt and friendly.

Used this place many a time over the years , but whats happened, food nothing to write home about, not very clean, strange smells,staff unfriendly, I was so looking forward to a meal there,,,perhaps the empty car park should have told me some thing....

I like my rib-eye steak & this is most definitely one of the best I have ever had my nephew loves food & tried the sausage baguette, loved it. Staff extremely attentive & well trained. Overall a very pleasant experience.

I often come here with my friends to eat and drink. Amazing value for money with fresh cooked food at great prices. Currently having an offer with 40% off all main meals Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 20% off Thursday, Friday and Saturday is a bonus as the food is delicious.Not only is the food good but the bar to drink in has a very good atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks. Would recommend anyone to visit this pub.

This was our third pre Xmas meal at the Ship,and was once again a great experience.The meals were excellent,and the service friendly and very efficient,Will be going back.

I enjoyed a fine pint of real ale,and we both enjoyed our choice from an excellent menu.The meals were hot, freshly cooked and plentiful.Overall a very pleasant lunch.

The last time I had a drink in the ship inn I was 4 now 54 I thought it was time for a second pint.the beer was first rate (gone fishing 5.5%) and the food was excellent it was piping hot and of a good size servings I had chilli the wife had ale pie and the daughter had meat balls all three were very tasty followed by cheese and biscuits and a lemon meringue sundays at under £40 for the lot you can not beat it (drinks extra).there was a bit of a wait but it was busy the only slight faults were a noisy bar next door and for some reason there were no serviettes on the table that was the only faults we could find.we will definitely be back and this time I will not be waiting 50 years!

Went with family for Sunday lunch. Good varied menu to choose from, the staff were very friendly. The restaurant surroundings were nothing special but it was clean. When the food came it was all fresh and really good. We would definitely return.

On Friday evening my friends and I went to The Ship for a meal I had eaten there before but they had not;they were surprised at how nice the restaurant is warm and welcoming as are the staff, the food is delicious and plentiful a very nice evening was had by all . They all will be returning again soon .

This has got to be the best pub food in suffolk for the price Guess what they dont do pizzas All freshly cooked using local ingredients If you are hungry you must not miss this if you are in Lowestoft

4 of us visited The Ship on hearing that it had changed hands and was again running as a restaurant as well as a Pub. We were most disappointed at the service and prices! £21 for a mixed grill in what is essentially just a very average Pub! The noise coming from the public bar added more to our annoyance. We would NOT recommend The Ship to anybody!

We were a party of five for a pre Christmas meal.The food was served promptly ,and all meals were very tasty.The service was very good,and overall it was a very pleasant experience.I would highly recommend having a meal in The Ship Inn.
