Best Afghan and Peshawari food in East London. Mix tikka and Chappli Kebab are the best. Really recommend

My experience was wonderful. I went with my family there. The service was amazing as the waitress was very polite and friendly. I enjoyed having chappali kabab, namkeen lamb karahi and the soft nan. Overall, it was an excellent experience.

Fantastic authentic afghani cuisine. Chapli Kebab is exceptional, literally 100/100. Surreal experience, we opted for the traditional floor seating but they have chairs and table if you prefer. You order food by the kilo so portions are massive!!!! Given the portion sizes food prices are very very reasonable. Service from staff was exceptional.

My recent visit to Shinwari was nothing short of a culinary nightmare, leaving me with an unsavoury taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. The experience was so appalling that I feel compelled to share my unfortunate encounter. Upon perusing the menu, my party and I decided to indulge in the much-praised Dum Pukhat, only to be greeted by a dish that was not just disappointing but outright repulsive. The aroma alone was enough to raise concerns, and upon closer inspection, it became apparent that the food was rotten. Shocked and disgusted, we promptly brought this to the attention of the staff. Incredibly, instead of offering a sincere apology or acknowledging the issue, the staff seemed indifferent and exchanged the dish without a word of explanation. Hoping that this was just an unfortunate hiccup, we decided to give the restaurant another chance and ordered the Lamb Karahi. To our dismay, history repeated itself, and we were served another dish that was nothing short of inedible due to its rotten state. To add insult to injury, when we received the bill, we were appalled to find that we had been charged for both the Dum Pukhat and the Lamb Karahi, despite the fact that we had returned both dishes untouched. Attempts to discuss the matter with the management were met with a dismissive attitude and an unwillingness to rectify the situation. The blatant disregard for customer satisfaction, coupled with the audacity to charge for inedible food, has left me flabbergasted. A basic tenet of any reputable restaurant is to ensure the quality and safety of the food they serve, and it is shocking that Shinwari failed on both fronts. In conclusion, I strongly advise potential patrons to exercise extreme caution when considering a visit to Shinwari. My experience was not only a gastronomic disappointment but also a stark reminder of the importance of customer service and accountability in the hospitality industry. I would request food authority to take action against this restaurant.

Food was quite good.. we ordered shinwari platter as a starter.. everything was good but lamb tikka was a bit undercooked. I complained about that twice but they didn’t compensate me.. i chose this restaurant so we can sit on takht posh.. but the carpets and rugs were so dirty.

Chapli kebab hit different I can't lie. Daal was very very good and delicious and customer service was very good and they were so nice even with the problems

Very rude staff and service was very bad

My review is not to bring the business down but to make the services better. I went with my wife to day 04/11/2023 . I went there many times , in the beginning the resturant was full of people . But this time only one family were sitting and rest of the resturant was empty and it was alert for me . Any way we went inside and we said we want to sit in the family sitting box not on the table , the lady said yes . When my wife sit she got oil mark on her white jeans . I said it’s may be the water but when I touched the jeans with my finger it was oil also I saw there was lots of oily food every where and I had to pick up with my fingers to put on the side . I asked the lady is the owner changed she said no the same owner , I said ok , I order kabli pulawo with chapli kebab , naan and drink for my wife , they bring the food , the kabli pilawo was rotten and hard rice not fresh risers and carrots and Nan was like made from old flour , I asked the lady the lady was quite healthy and rude I won’t say fat women it’s rude so yeah healthy women , after I asked can I have tap water she said we don’t do tap water but bottle of water I said really ? Then the man waiter came my wife asked him can we have tape water he said yes I will bring so he bring burning hot water ! I sip and left the water not to drink . There used to be afgan waiters which were quite friendly and understand how to serve customers because of cultural food . I used to give them very hood tip but these time I collect even my 1 pound and 5p . If owner can see this comment need to improve the quality of food and service , we pay we want absolutely nice food and good caring customer service . Also there should be card payment’s. Make it easy for customers to keep customers otherwise no one will come and you will lose the business thank you

I think this used to be a better place, now everything gone down. Food made me sick on the way back. Salad was stale and old. Service so slow, overall I think this place needs improvement on all end.

I don’t where to start, the minute I walked in I should have know. This is not Afghan restaurant. As an afghan I know what a kabuli is and one I had no way near kabuli polaw. If you looking to enjoy afghan food stay away. Unfortunately I’m not from London, I been to other afghan place in London they are amazing. Not afghan.

Three of us went to have a nice meal. Unfortunately it was terrible. Ordered meat kharai, chicken kharai and rice with lamb shank. It was served within 5 minutes. Looked liked warmed in a microwave. No taste at all. We were the only one there. Now I know why. Will never go again.

As an Afghan, I can confirm that this is NOT Afghan food! Avoid! Feeling sick day after! Very low quality and poor taste.

Shanwari has really stepped up their quality of food. No one can touch their qabuli pilau recipe around East london. We have been their customers around 8 years now.

Sub Standard services, Average Food quality

Poor environment with lot of smell, look like food wasnt prepared fresh, all botiyan was quite rubbery and full with fat and bones. Kabuli pilao taste wasnt authentic afghani at all Their quality is no longer what they used to before.

Ordered a takeaway from here and gonna keep it simple and say it as it is, the worst Afghan food ever. The kabuli pulao absolute joke, literally had the smallest piece of meat, size of a chicken leg in that big tray. They mixed grill absolutely lacked flavour. And then the chicken karahi was 75% oil in the container. Avoid this place.

Food was okay but not everyone can sit on the floor

The price has gone so high compared to last time (1 year ago). The food tastes average, good for people who don't like spicy food. My only recommendation is to try Shinwari rice £11 (Good for 2 people)

After reading mixed reviews, I visited this restaurant over the weekend. I ordered Shinwari special Chappli Kebab and Kabuli Pulow. Both were scrumptious and tasty. They provide complimentary Afgani naan as well which was amazingly good. They have enough seating capacity and the Afghani ambience is good. A few points to note: 1. They accept only Cash. 2. If you are not a heavy foodie, be careful while you are ordering as they provide a large quantity of food. A couple of points to raise, firstly, cutlery seems to be old. They need to renew the cutlery. Secondly, they need to use good air fresheners.

If I am not wrong it was my third time to try their food. And I must say every time I visit them I enjoyed their food with my heart. The taste was amazing. Foods were fresh. Mango lassi was too sweet but it’s ok. All the kebabs and grills were fresh cooked. Washroom was perfectly clean. The portion of food was very good. They are the most authentic Halal Afghan cuisine restaurant. I highly recommend them.

15th of April evening time I went there to get 2 naans in the month of Ramadan and i usually buy their palau and kababs. Naan is a part of their menu and If you buy their naans on uber eats then they are selling it. I went to the restaurant by myself and I asked the staff to get me 2 naans which is £4 but Mr manager rejected my order and told me that we don't sell naan separately. I told him that i regularly buy on uber as well but Manager said that we can't say no to uber customers. I was shocked because all the restaurants in Ilford selling naan separately as well even it's Wazir restaurant. It's very cheap attitude of this shinwari restaurant which shows their class. I decided not to buy regularly now. Bad cheap attitude will only destroy your business and your honesty. It's kind of evil thing on the month of Ramadan. Anywya Allah is watching everything.

Not great just really average. Having tried around Afghani and Persian food in several restaurants in the UK, this one seems to be just sub-par or slightly below average. We ordered a Shinwari chicken Karahi and all it had was dry chicken with loads of black pepper sprinkled on top of it. There was literally no sauce that makes it a Karahi. We also ordered the Challow kebab and it was alright but could have been much better. Overall, would recommend and won’t visit again.

Hi i had a great experience at shinwari. I am not a meat lover ( because of smell from meat) but their chapli kabab oh my god it is so tasty and meat DOES NOT SMELL. i also tried kabuli pilau and chicken karahi which was very yummy. People should try their food. Espcly chapli kabab. I lovvvvve it. Thank you

Nothing about this restaurant i liked . First the smell, they should use some very good air freshener . When we entered the restaurant it wasn’t busy at all & there was no one to greet the customer so we had to wait . Then one employee came & just kept looking at us ,didn’t say Hi/Hello & we wasn’t sure he/she is a customer or a employee so we keep waiting in-front of entrance. After brief moment we approached & asked for a table Foods was tasteless. We ordered Naan, Dal gusto, chciken & kabuli pulao It was the worst kabuli pulao i ever tasted in my london life. just boil rice & boil meat no flavour at all. Chciken was spiceless sweet thing. & the plastic straw in mango lassi are so small/narrow i had to use more than one straw together to drink it. I don’tknow why this straw exist. Only decent thing was here is dal gusto & naan. And about their dishes either they don’t clean it properly or it’s too old.

Great food and a very different dining experience when you get to sit on the floor and eat. Love the traditional style of eating and socialising.

Seating area is nice and service was good. However, the food did not taste great for the price they charge. The chicken karahi was mostly bones and no chicken. If you are looking for good Afghani food I would avoid and try khyber grill instead.

Food is delicious, service is okay. I loved the food and the naan is like the tradional in Afghanistan. I as a Pakistani loved this restaurant.

They used to have good, but their food quality has gone down a lot. It's really bad doesn't workrth for money. It's better to got to any other cheap kebabish rather then going to shinwari. Seriously.

The Karahi was like a curry watery and taste less and the meat quality was not good. The meat was not tender enough. On complaining and wanted to speak to someone like chef who refused to talk to us. Anyone who love Afghani food please stay away from this place. Worst karahi ever served to me.

The food is not good and presentation of the food and salad is really bad. Had a Qabuli palaw rice and lamb which was full of bones, no soft meat and the rice was sticky. I wouldn’t recommend it as a traditional Afghan cousin other than just some rice and lamb randomly mixed and served on plate.

Second time in a row they are selling fat and only ribs in Kabali pilau just picked up my order - came home opened the box full of fat. Picture attavhed litterly no meat called back to the restaurant spoke to someone who said owner/manager both not available I did not make this mistake Chef did (refused to give his name) - spoke to chef he refused to compensate even tho I said my kids are hungry I can't leave them home alone and come back said okay your problem bye and hung up. Disgusting never again Zero star

I visited on Wednesday 15/06/2022 and I have to say the hygiene rating was generous, also I had a stomach upset for two days following the visit. The taste of the food was generally on average, although the chapli kebab was uncooked and Kablu pilau was very greasy and the carrots on it looked artificial as they were beyond greasy, the lamb in the mixed grill wasn't edible and seemed to have been double cooked, so were over cooked and far too chewy. Wouldn't ever visit again, it was a big mistake.

Terrible food. Not authentic Afghani cuisine. I ordered the spicy lamb karahi. Portion size was underwhelming. The meat was hard and not cooked properly. I doubt if it was really lamb. They give you the worst cuts of meat with lots of fat on it. AVOID!

This place was really dissapointing. Food was terrible. We had to eat undercooked Kabuli Pilau and tasteless Chicken Karahi (literally bland as paper) the only thing they got right was the Chapali Kebab..We all had upset stomachs after eating from here and the place smelt like an old pair of socks, overall cleanliness was shocking..if you want authentic Afghani food that will blow your mind and tastebuds then take a drive down to Taste of Pakistan in Hounslow. You won't regret it like we did with this place.

Heard a lot about this restaurant but totally disappointed by their food. It was first time ever in my life that I left couple of pieces of meat in my plate because it was not cooked properly, still looked like raw meat. Next day my colleagues told me the same thing. I’m not thinking to go back.

Very tasty food and an authentic experience. We chose on the floor seating which adds to the authenticity. Chaplin kebab is a must have. So is the lamb curry. Pulav portions are huuuuge.

Nice atmosphere, tasty food, great service, juicy meat and loved the dum phukht... Came back here again with family, great atmosphere, always have space in the carpet area. Food arrived within 10 minutes, everything was fresh and very tasty. We ordered the lamb karahi, chapli kebab, nuggets meal for kids, kabuli pulao and afghani naan. Highly recommended decent priced if you want to enjoy your food and company best to come here !! to top it all kids love it here 😀

Restsurant is renovated I think recently, new looks with Touch of afghani and modern. Food was average not that great which we were expecting. Kabli pilau is always good, Chaplin kebab is also okay, but lamb Karahi taste was different.

Overrated. Have better restaurants of similar kind(afghani) in London and much much better value for money than this restaurant. Went there after a while and it’s gone backwards. Chapli kebabs were not cooked properly as the had been put in very hot oil so got burnt from outside however almost raw from inside Lamb karahi wasn’t karahi it was more curry Watery and hardly any meat it was more bones honestly never had a terrible alleged karahi in my life. And size of karahi well won’t say anything picture says it all Overall it was bad experience after two and half hour drive. Never again

Tried lamb karahi, kabli pulao and chapli kebab. Karahi was tasteless. No green chillis in it. Kebab was precooked so was hard and dry. Fresh chapli kebab are usually juicy and soft. Kabli pulao was okish. Best of all at least. Good size meat u With pulao.

CASH ONLY!!!! Food was just about average, I think lacking spice/herbs; daal was weirdly sweet; no tap water available; the boneless chicken korma was actually with bones LOL!! When I asked why it has bones despite the menu saying its boneless, staff said that’s how it is. The most disappointing part of our experience was that it is cash only, despite this Era’s push towards cashless payments a large restaurant like this is still cash only! Seating was nice, naans were nice, staff were also friendly. Would I go here again? Probably not.. rather Al-Hashim on Romford road.

Been a while since I've come so decided to return and see if it was still as good as a few years ago. Really love the authenticity of the food and the chapali kebab is a must have.

Amazing foods served here, especially the lamb dishes. How they make it so tender, juicy and flavoursome I'll never know. The service was great as was the seating, which by the way was either on the floor Desi style or standard table and chairs.

Heard good things and was looking forward to it. Nice surrounding and pleasant staff however the food itself was bang average, ordered chapli kebab, 1/2kg lamb and daal gosht. Chapli for me was very bland, and the lamb which was pretty pricey was a big disappointment. Surprisingly the tastiest item was the daal which was an after thought to the chapli and lamb. Massive naan.

Please don't eat here. I was there last night. The place is so dirty and smells bad. We ordered chicken and lamb karai and both were half cooked. I felt very sick later and had to throw up. Please AVOID this place at all costs. They have very poor hygiene standards. They should not be allowed to trade. The place needs to be cleaned and the chef needs to learn how to cook.
