Still the best! Food arrived piping hot and tasting great.

Simply the best curry take away or delivery in Colchester. Exceptional service. Food is always piping hot and tasty. The curries and Tandoor options are lovely.

Pilau rice was overcooked and cold, lamb bhuna was cold, bland and had very little sauce, chicken madras was spicy but no flavour, same story with the chicken bhuna. Onion bhajis were cricket ball sized lumps of greasy onions, saag aloo was cold as well as the Bombay aloo. Tandoori quarter chicken was dry and flavourless. So disappointed with this. It took them an hour and a half to deliver a load of rubbish.

Terrible. I used to use this place regularly years ago and it was excellent but more recently the orders have been bad. The currys were watery and tasteless, the rice tasted like it was from the previous day, one of the poppadoms was blackened and burned and the food cartons were onlly half full. Sadly, I will not be ordering from here again.

Great tasty food, good portion sizes, quick delivery, will buy from again.

Mainly disappointed by the lack of taste and poor quality food. Small king prawns, Korma sauce was thin and mushroom rice had no taste at all, with only a handful of small slices of mushroom.

Overall experience: decent, but wouldn't order again. I ordered: Chicken balti curry: little bland and not much flavour. Very oily. If you want a top quality authentic curry, this probably isn't the place. Tikka chicken starter: quite nice, but very small portion. Veg samosa: quite nice and not greasy. Poppadoms: usual. Got an extra one, which was nice. Overall, I will not order here again but it was okay for the price.

Outstanding. Never ordered from here before but I will make sure I make it my go to curry house. Lamb tikka dopiaza was amazing - loads of tender and tasty lamb in a nicely tangy sauce and the madras and sides were also hot and tasty. Highly recommend.

I’ve had a few meals before but I’ve got to say this has been the worse ever. The rice was stodgy the rogan josh was tasteless and the poppadoms tasted like they had been Cooked in old fat. Most of this went in the bin as couldn’t stomach it! Really disappointed as normally the food is better.

Shame I didn't get pilau rice. Not keen on boiled rice but it was ok. Chicken was nice.

Very good food and arrived on time. A bit of a criticism was that the delivery driver did not phone me - as requested on the order - when they arrived and instead gave my order to another occupant of the building where I live and it was a fluke that the order still got to me. He did phone afterwards to check whether the food reached me but I don't see why he couldn't just phone first? Otherwise the food was lovely and I'll be ordering again.

Food arrived at the time they stated, but that time was over 90 mins from the order being placed. If I had known it would be that long I probably wouldn't have ordered. Unfortunately nothing you can do once the order goes through. The food was good, though.

This was the best Indian I have had in a long time. This will definitely be my regular from now on.

Food arrived 30minutes early. Delivery driver told me it was nothing to do with him and he was just a taxi driver. Sadly because I then had to leave the food in a warm oven for half hour it wasn't that nice.

Really nice friendly delivery driver. Delivery bit over an hour HOWEVER earlier than 1 hr 35 time advised after I placed the order.. they were just busy. Food was piping hot and good, onion bhajis were huge (great! And very well cooked) would have liked the dhansak a little hotter (spicy), personal preference. Would order again.

Didn’t enjoy this at all unfortunately. Curry’s were watery unfortunately. Tikka Masala didn’t taste like I remember it should. Rice was overcooked. Sides were quite bland. Chicken pieces had a strange texture.

Food was disgusting. Onion bhajis in a brown bag literally dripping in oil. Rice no flavour whatsoever bland. Curry sauce was like something out of a supermarket jar. Possibly the worse Indian takeaway we have had. And we have had many.

The food was really nice, delivered quickly and was a good temperature. The curries were flavoursome and had a good quantity of meat in them. I would recommend this takeaway highly and will be ordering again.

I have used Shemul’s for years and have always had great food and friendly service. I would definitely say it’s one of Colchester best Indian takeaways and recommend them to anyone.

Lovely main meals but the lamb tikka starter was so hard it was inedible. So unfortunate as the rest was good.

Food came nice and quick (it said an hour, was more like 45 minutes, nice bonus). Food was generally pretty good, sauce was a little wattery on the tikka masala. Good flavour.

Great service for a Friday night. Food arrived hot and fresh with extras.. popadoms onion salad. Not all restaurants do that nowdays - so was pleased. Very polite delivery driver apologised for the wait, even though it was just a few minutes. Will definitely be ordering again.

So I had just come out of hospital on Wednesday and I was so hungry .. I explained this when I made my order of how hungry I was anyway a long story short my food came piping hot fresh as a daisy and delivered a good 20 minutes than the expected time... my favourite place to go 4 my vindaloo etc and the guy whe delivered it is always polite .. 5 star all the way

My order tonight was outstanding! Everything was cooked to perfection, I can be rather fussy with what I eat and the chef(s) absolutely nailed my requests perfectly!

Used to love this place but haven’t eaten Indian takeaway for a long time. Decided to treat myself this evening and I don’t know what’s happened - new chef from a year ago, new management, or I’m just unlucky, but it was sooo bad. Cold, tiniest king prawns ever, overcooked onion (to the point of them being mush), soggy naan and greasy bhajis. Won’t be ordering from them again. So sad as used to be amazing :(

Delivery arrived without an item (we hadn't noticed!) very apologetic gentleman returned with it and a refund! I tried to hand money back but he refused to take it. Is the sort of service we expect from Shemul. We rarely have any issues but when we do, they are resolved with no fuss. We've been repeatedly ordering from them for over 10 years and will continue to do so this decade too! Fantastic food and friendly service!

Great food, was a busy night and unfortunately food was late and bits were missed off our order. Staff were very apologetic, and went out of their way to make it right.

Watery currys, not much difference between the 'Naga Naga' and 'Tindaloo' lacking hugely in flavour and spice. The rice was also a little over cooked. I feel rather disappointed.

Never ordered from here before but will definitely use again. Can’t fault the service or food.

The best Indian in Colchester. I been having indian food for the past 40 years. This place is one of the best.

I had the most delicious vegetarian curry (medium hot) with pillaw rice, bhuna chakka dhal, lentil dhal and peshwari naan! Every item was scrumptuous! I love the friendliness of the owner - he is such a charming man and always throws in some salad and poppadoms as a treat! My partner had lamb rhogan josh and he just loved it - he always get this because he says it is so delicious! Never a scrap left on either of our plates! I have to recommend Shemul as the best takeaway for a curry in Colchester. I have tried others but none compare in quality and price to Shemul.

Ive been a happy customer for the past 11 years, but tonight I was massively disappointed with the food, it tasted bland and boring. I really hope this was a one off as the food is usually really nice. I was informed delivery was going to be late but it came earlier than estimated, it's to be expected on a Saturday night!

Restaurant changed delivery time by 25 mins after I'd ordered. Curry wasn't worth the wait. It was watery with no flavour.

Just a shame they aren't always delivering my favourite Indian even if it isn't as realistic as real Indian takeaway food still very tasty and will definitely order again.

Disappointing food, for curry all dishes really tasteless and some dishes watery so had a puddle at the bottom of my plate with the rice. Had to warm up in microwave, not as much chicken as get from other restaurant takeaways previously. Delivery was late. Won't be re-ordering.

The main dish Chicken Tikka Jalfrezzi was nice but unfortunatley tbe side didhes watery and bland.

Service first class. My husband is Indian and he said its like home made food. So delicious.

This is the most delicious food I have ever eat. I was so surprised that they delivered 45 min before the expected time. Highly recommend.

5 out of 5 to this restaurant, one of the best Indian food I ever had. I ordered chicken thikka vindaloo which had right spices and hotness to it. Saag paneer which was yummy, aloo chaat which was more of curry type than chaat but hey it had all the spices hit on right note. They also gave me free two papads, ordered plain naan very tasty. They packed my food so cleanly than any other Indian restaurants takeaway I had so far, plus money is very considerable and had right amount of satisfying food. Delivery was half hour early or may I say my food was delivered before within half an hour. Loved and enjoyed. Highly recommended

I've been greatly disappointed with my order. I ordered lamb Biriyani and lamb rogan Josh none of which had an authentic taste. Both tasted bland. I'm certainly not going to try Shemul anymore. Although food was delivered on time. That was the only positive aspect of the order. Hope they would try and improve their food quality :-(

brilliant food was missing my naan bread but rang them up and they sent it to me within 5-10 mins tops very apologetic not only did they deliver the missing item but i received a refund for the missing item and more poppadoms which i was not expecting so thank you shemul for some outstanding service will definitely be ordering again
