Looks closed and believe planning permission hasbeen granted for change to residential use. Past reviews seem to indicate they are never open except perhaps for some private functions.

I booked Sheldrakes for a birthday celebration for my mum over 2 weeks in advance through their website, and received a confirmation email straight away. As a family we had been here a few times over the years and thoroughly enjoyed our experience each time, however when our party arrived at the restaurant in time for our booking, the doors were shut and lights were off. My mum and I stood in the pouring rain getting soaked while the rest of our party walked around to the front of the building to see if they could see anybody around. The place was closed. I didn’t receive any communication from Sheldrakes to say they would be closed and therefore wouldn’t be able to fulfil the booking, and our group then had to look for somewhere else to eat at very short notices Reading the rest of the recent reviews here it sounds like it was a blessing in disguise! So disappointing as we used to love coming here, however I would now avoid at all costs.

No stars as we didnt have an experience on the day as when we got there the restuarant looked permanently closed! 60th celebration over and that was that!! 3.00pm by the time we found somewhere else .However, It seems they haven't told TripAdvisor they are closed even though their website thinks they are still open and can take booking and even confirm them!! Crazy crazy! So agree with other reviewers save the bother and don't even try to go...shame, but in this ecomic climate they may have gone bust and left suddenly..be warned.It certainly looked like staff had left in a hurry. Bottle of wine and glasses on tables outside etc.

I booked a table online for the evening of Friday 9 September and subsequently received a confirmatory email, so it never crossed my mind that the restaurant would actually be shut when we arrived! The restaurant, downstairs, was in darkness, doors closed, table shoved up against them, yet a wedding party was ongoing in the upstairs function room. I've since seen the previous scathing reviews given on TripAdvisor, over the last few weeks in particular - I would never have considered booking at Sheldrakes if I'd read them first! It seems like the concept of being open, providing good food in a timely and professional manner is a completely alien concept! Although it was a very busy Friday evening Heswall Tandoori accommodated us instead ... the staff there were friendly, professional and couldn't do enough for us and the food without exception was delicious. A 5 star review for the Heswall Tandoori, can't recommend it highly enough - the owner of Sheldrakes could learn a lot from them!

This was booked for a meal for two on the strength of its reputation. Accepting that its a beach front restaurant the short walk from the car park was acceptable. The restaurant however is tired, shabby and requires a major refurb. The patio area out front, which has a tremendous view, is in need of a complete overhaul and resurfacing. It was littered with plastic food containers and plates left out from other diners meals. The service was slow at best and the food quality average.I wouldn't dine here again.

I booked table for a family meal for my mums birthday. I booked via the website a week in advance and received a confirmation email. We turned up for our meal to discover the place was completely shut. I had no communication from the restaurant to say there was a problem with the booking or that the restaurant wasn’t open. Really disappointed, would not bother again.

Heard a lot about Sheldrakes before we visited and it did not disappoint. We went all out and had a three course meal each with a few cheeky lunch time drinks. When we arrived we were met by very attentive and happy staff members, shown to our table which had the most amazing view over to Wales. Staff were quick in bringing over menu's and asked for our drink order. Drinks were given to us in less than 5 minutes. The starters and main meals were fantastic. I had the fillet steak which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the fish and chips but honestly it was like a whale... the staff didn't stop. Even serving other people they still had time to ask how our meal was and did we need anything else. They were so busy and run off their feet but nothing was too much trouble for them. Loved it so much that we booked again before we left for this coming Friday. Going to take the in-laws for a slap up birthday treat. 100% recommend a visit if you have not been before.

Popped in yesterday for a late lunch with friends. We had travelled from Chester. They were closed for private function. We have tried several times to pop in for drinks/lunch, always closed. I did try phoning and nobody answered, just presumed very busy. Complete waste of time, we went for a walk on beach and had lunch elsewhere in Heswall. Great shame.

we had an awesome meal for two here at sheldrakes! The food was absolutely A1 and the views so stunning (sunset and all!) Yes the place is a little ecclectic, (perhaps needs a slight re-fit) but - again the food was so excelent. A conjured up cauliflower steak preceeded by lovely halloumi bites hit the spot for me. My wife had an up-market chicken kebab with all the trimmings and thoroughly enjoyed this plus all starters , and even we had a good 'ol cup of tea afterwards. All enthusiastically served by a great team of helpful staff. Yes, attentive staff. Couldnt do enough for ya. All great in my book

Attended forWedding. Other reviews have said it all. Only gave it 1* in order to leave a review. Before the wedding began guests were crammed into a small area with no air conditioning on a warm day and forbidden to go outside as they would disturb the 6 restaurant customers at the outside tables. Bar staff disappeared having taken orders and didn't return for some time. Finally drinks were served all round but guests were called upstairs for the ceremony almost immediately afterwards and were informed they were not allowed to take their drinks upstairs with them. In summary: Poor management and organisation; Understaffed Appalling service Staff attitude bad to the point of rudenesss Tables not cleared all night Broken glass everywhere, frequently caused by staff dropping glasses and not being cleaned up. Glass shards were strewn across the dance floor, surrounding tables and floors resulting in someone slipping and cutting their hand very badly, requiring stitches. The manager attended but only to record details and never showed any concern for the injured person. The food was carried through this mess by surly staff over a long period and much of it arrived cold. I didn't once see a smile on the face of any staff member the entire day and evening and guests seemed to be resented for being there at all. The beautiful bride and the groom deserved so much better than this on their special day. Avoid.

Attended a wedding here and about the only positive thing I can say is that the views are great! As for the rest, I'd have to say that the staff and the manageress were really poor. They seemed completely unprepared for a large number of guests and were flustered and rude for the whole day. They were short staffed, long waits at the bar, glasses strewn everywhere not being collected, one guest even cut her hand on a broken glass that hadn't been cleared away, and the manageress then seemed more concerned with protecting herself against a claim than being polite and helping the injured guest. The food served was poor and mainly cold. The staff were also insistent on stopping guests from using the terrace area for some unknown reason, despite this being the main draw of the place. There were only a handful of people in the restaurant who were not part of the wedding, yet the staff seemed a lot more concerned about them than the 100 or so wedding guests. All in all, a shambles, and judging by the reviews online, previous weddings have had similar issues and they have either not learned, or just don't care. Avoid.

Attended for a wedding. Venue was ok but staff struggled with simple things like glasses for drinks. Fish and chips served at evening do but chips were stone cold. Pre wedding drinks in the downstairs bar was shared with the most rude and obnoxious manager. Could do with a lesson in customer service and how to speak to people. It seemed the wedding was an inconvenience to her. Would never return based on her bad attitude alone.

I had heard such great things about this place and my partner decided to book a meal here for my birthday and with it being my first time at this restaurant i was expecting alot more, i had contacted the Facebook page whilst still at the restaurant a week ago and i am yet to receive a response, my comments are below - uch a shame. The location and scenery are beautiful however for my first time at this beautiful restaurant and im extremely disappointing . The service was awful. I attended with my partner for my birthday and we had booked a table but on arrival we had to ask where we were to be seated in which we were advised to take a seat anywhere then we waited for ages for menus which we then had to go to the bar to ask for them. My partner arrived back at our table with the menus which where printed pieces of paper, that wouldn't normally bother me but the price you pay you expect more than this. We then had to go to the bar to order our meal as none of the staff attended our table for a long time. Whilst waiting for our food a few coupled advised us that we need good luck as they have had terrible service. When our food arrived we waited a considerable amount of time without any cutlery so my partner had to ask for it. The whole service wasn't good at all and its such a shame as its a beautiful place. I expected alot more and with it being my first time here and it being my birthday i am very disappointing. Apologies but we even had to go to the bar to settle the bill when another 2 couples had to complain about the service and had to leave without their food after waiting 2 hours for their food and it wasnt very busy. We waited over 10minutes at the bar to pay our bill to which the girls didnt even know what we had and had to ask us what we ate and one girl was very rude and didnt seem to want to be there she even had holes in her tights. Such a shame, they didnt even knwo what we had to drink let alone the food and when we advised our table number the staff had to go out to check? - please may i have a response

We visited last week to celebrate our silver wedding. Upon arrival, we were ignored by the bar staff, had to ask to be seated. To be fair one was serving whilst the other stood there. A simple smile of acknowledgment in our direction would have sufficed. We chose to sit outside. The tables were filthy, numerous tables with dirty plates etc. that proved a magnet for the local wasp community. After 10 minutes my son went in to ask should we order at the bar. The young waitress came out to tell us they didn’t have any real menus and gave us two photocopies to share between the three of us. At this point I asked for the drinks menu which they did not have. I asked about their champagne as it was a celebration. The waitress disappeared again for another age. She returned to tell me they didn’t have any Chardonnay. I said it was champagne I asked about. She explained they did not have champagne but they did have Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio. Other than beers and spirits that was the only alcohol they had. At this point we had been sat outside for 30 minutes without even being offered a drink. At this stage, we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Something we have never done before. Whilst waiting for our taxi, a young male waiter came to our grubby, empty table. He was carrying a ramekin of mayonnaise which he asked if we had ordered. We did laugh at this point as it was turning into an episode of Fawlty Towers crossed with Victoria Wood’s Two Soups sketch. To be fair to the young waiter, he was the only person to offer us anything during our stay. Had it not been our silver wedding it would not have been so much of an issue. We hoped to celebrate not commiserate with rumbling stomachs and parched throats. We hopped in our taxi and went to 107 in Heswall who had a choice of champagne, friendly, efficient competent staff who spoilt us rotten. The food was also excellent. I feel the owners trade off their fantastic location and view everything else as secondary. Top tip- take your own ale and a picnic, sit on the front and soak up the view.

This visit was as a result of a late change of plans due to the 30 degree heat which led to us looking for a venue away from the heat of urban areas. It was a first visit for all of us. Our experience was a lovely evening with the fantastic view over the estuary enhancing it. The meals were served promptly and were delightful.

Sheldrakes has really gone down hill. Very poor menu, Offering panninis, sandwiches, ribs etc not the delicious main meals they used to have on the menu. What they have now you can get anywhere for half the price! Very disappointing, will not be returning.

Fabulous mussels, up there with some of the best I’ve ever had. Service was excellent too. Really would recommend. Only hope is that they get some cask ale on soon!

So I done some research on this place before I wanted to come and the past few reviews are terrible!!really put me off wanting to go.But there’s a saying “never judge a book by its cover”So I decided to give them a call as it was bank holiday weekend I didn’t expect any answer especially after reading the terrible reviews!“Good morning sheldrakes restaurant how can I help” I asked to book a table,“Course you can sir!”Gave time and details as you do Before hanging up the young lad who answered “Sir am going to be truthful with you as you know the sun is out today as are a lot of the population When you arrive give your name and number of people and me and my colleagues will try are best to accommodate you”As I arrived the views was unreal!! Grate location Restaurant was practically full!!As the waiter looked everywhere for a table to put us on he came over “Unfortunately there isn’t one available at this time”But lucky us as we arrived 30 minutes earlier is what we expected...Callum said “youse could sit in the bar lounger with drinks and wait for a table to free up”As we agreed and sat down had a lovely ice cold beer.Time passes and there wasn’t a table available!He explained to us how busy they have been and gave us the best idea “If you want to sir take a walk down to the boats Take in the fresh air + the view”After that nice peaceful walk Soon as we arrived was showed to a table with the best view!I could go on and on about this place....The service was perfect due to how busy it was I watched as staff tried there best.(bit overwhelmed) I give them top respect!!As callum took are orders and was satisfied that we had everything we needed The waiter Craig who took over (top guy) Due to the the young lad going from table to table (literally every table) This was the best time I’ve had in a long time my wife and my self want to thank youse all at sheldrakes restaurant for the perfect afternoon out!!The spirit that comes off the staff is just like having dinner with friends family!!Food was so so delicious! We booked for lunch for our anniversary, restaurant confirmed the booking again the day before but when we arrived the restaurant was closed! We messaged (all of which were read) and called and have had no reply at all! The restaurant is in the middle...
