Food wasn't up to mark. would prefer Pakistani cuisine instead of bengali. Waiter were inexperienced straight from Bangladesh.

Great food but trying to force us to pay cash by directing us outside to a cash machine is not on. Had to explain we were using a company card to pay before they backed down left a lot to be desired

I have had my eye on this restaurant for over 10 years, so it was a great relief to finally get my tongue on it too. One off the curry bucket list for sure! First up I have to praise the extremely high class decor. This is not your run of the mill black leather chair situation, this is a dining room adorned with beautiful scupltures and highly, highly stimulating artworks. I was drinking in my surroundings with as much thirst as I was drinking down my cold Cobra beer. Was the food delicious? You know me, of course it was! Even better it was served on warming flames to maintain the perfect temprature. If I hadn't been careful (which I was) we could have had an Akbars York situation on our hands (real curry fans will know what I mean). Overall I would say I love Shapla and will DEFINITELY come back. Amen x

Been to this restaurant a few times over the years and it never fails to please ! Food always excellent and staff and service always exceptional ! Deffo recommend anyone who enjoys a tasty curry etc to come here as you will not be dissapointed 🍛🥘

We are regular customers at Shapla normally we have had a good experience but been in tonight just got home had such a bad experience as there was a group of drunken men in swearing and shouting and being a general pain in the backside. Me and my husband felt really uncomfortable tonight. We have decided we will not be going back to Shapla as the waiters thought the men were funny and laughing with them and did nothing about the men's behaviour. We are not party poopers but tonight was disgusting from this group of men plus under their table was in a mess which the staff never cleaned it up. I went to the toilet and there was no toilet roll and we were rushed with our meal they don't give you chance to finish before they are brining the next course. Shapla has lost 2 very loyal customers tonight.

Great food slight disappointed by the insistence of paying in cash and asking us to walk to a cash machine. After explaining none of us had cards or cash on us they accepted we could pay card .

I didn’t enjoy this experience at all. I was charged £37 for some dry mix grill and some butter chicken with some naans. Mix grill tasted like it was leftovers from yesterday warmed up today. Butterchicken had a sour smell and naans tasted sweet I really hated it. Do people really fall for it? Never going there again.

Visited along with a group of friends for a graduation dinner - atrocious customer service! A consistently rude demeanour from the waiter throughout the evening. To make matters worse, there was a discrepancy in the bill which when pointed out, resulted in us facing an uncooperative attitude and a blatant refusal to accept their mistake. This spoiled our evening although the food was okay. Would NOT recommend!!

Best curry house in Sheffield for me

During my recent visit to the restaurant, I encountered an extremely disheartening dining experience. Such instances of poor service and billing inaccuracies should be promptly addressed by the restaurant management to ensure the satisfaction of their patrons. One of the worst restaurant I have seen in my life. This is not Indian Restaurant first of all. We went there for my wife’s birthday and they made sure to spoil it. Food was uncooked and manager was completely unprofessional. Not sure how people give 4+ stars. VERY DISAPPOINTED……

The food here was delicious and flavoursome. I had the lamb Vindaloo, which was a nice type of spicy, and my partner had the prawn masala. The staff were very friendly and helpful as well. Saying this is the first time at this restaurant, it definitely won't be the last :)

Sunday night in Sheffield after a cancelled gig, an evening in the Shapla was suggested. What a great decision, pleasant restaurant not too far from the city centre. A warm welcome and excellent service from the staff who couldn't do enough. Food was served quickly and came piping hot, full of flavour and with more than ample portion sizes. Menu choice is excellent and we will definitely be calling again next time we visit the Steel City. Highly recommend you give it a try.

Called in with my partner for an early dinner and as soon as we walked in, we were greeted very well. Ordered a starter and a main .The starter was very nice, but the main was delicious. The meat was very tender and the sweetness and the spiciness was perfect. Wanted to eat it again. The service was spot on and we were made to feel very welcome. We will most definitely be returning. I expected a bit more spicy food here, but it was fairly good. The staff are good. The most serious problem I found here was that they ask for cash payment and they do not give a printed receipt eithe; one can easily understand that it's a way to evade taxes.

I gives me great displeasure to downgrade this establishment. However, the service was poor and the two people in service were impatient, even though we complimented the food at every opportunity. What killed it completely was the insistence on a cash payment. I had to walk to an ATM to get the cash and upon my return saw people paying with card. This is discrimination. I say no more on the matter as we intend to run it by our legal team.

Free car parking. Food is ok. Service is very good. But the customer's toilet is very bad like a public toilet.

We had a really good meal here while visiting Sheffield. All the food was delicious. We only had time to get mains and they arrived very quickly. I am vegetarian and absolutely loved the veg madras and tarka daal - usually I find vegetable curries lacking, but not this one. All the staff were lovely. We would 100% come back.

This was the first restaurant my boyfriend decided to take me for our first date. Ever since then 33 yrs later it’s our go to Indian restaurant. The reason for that is because the Indian food is authentic with fresh spices and ingredients. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Last year it was our anniversary and because I’d recently had spinal surgery they arranged for our meal to be delivered at home. My husband once wanted a prawn cocktail that isn’t on the menu and they made him one up. I was very impressed by their service and more importantly their food and cleanliness of the restaurant in general. Highly recommend.

30 years never no more Terrible hygiene, they have always tried to cheat on the bill and they try to listen to what you are saying, don’t fall for the owners so called charm he will give the lady’s a flower when you leave but basically he doesn’t give a damb about you, The worst thing they do is re fill the pickle trays on top of the previous customers without emptying them I’ve found pieces of popadoms in the pickle trays and the serving spoons are sticky which tells me they on not replenishing with totally fresh pickles how could they do this! Having said all that they do turn out normally decent food! I’ll never ever go again because of their cheating ways.

Wow, what can I say? The chicken korma was up there with one of the best I have every had! The chicken was tender and the sauce was full of flavour. The keema naan was also fantastic. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The restaurant definitely had a family feel to it. We will definitely be visiting again!

Popped in to the Shapla Indian Restaurant prior to see Def Leppard at the nearby Leadmill Venue. We ordered some Papadums and an Indian lager I hadn't come across before called - 'Indian King', for our main dishes we had various chicken dishes. I tried 'The Nepali Chicken Tikka' , which was a hot dish in a pleasant aromatic sauce, which reminded me of a Naga curry, but not quite as intense, that said the sauce, chicken were very flavoursome. We also had a Naan bread. The service and food were both very good. Would definitely visit again.

I travelled from Uxbridge on a business purpose. I searched for a bengladeshi/indian cuisine on Google and came across this place, which was a 20min walk away from my hotel. As soon as I walked in, I was promptly attended by the waiter and taken to a table. I ordered a reshmi kebab for starters, which was very tasty and good portion size. I ordered a lamb dish, with okra, with some naan bread. The curry was cooked to perfection, would have preferred if green chillies were added, as I like fresh chillies with my food. The naan was very thick, soft and fluffy, to my liking, most places nowadays are thin and crispy. The owner made effort to check on my and made conversation, which was nice as I was alone, gave me good company. I would recommend this place to anyone who's looking for good food. The restaurant is abit dated, which is something the owner should look into.

Easily one of if not the best Indian restaurant in Sheffield. Maybe one of the best I've ever eaten at, the food is amazing but it's sent over and above by the friendly and hard working staff and amazing atmosphere.

Awful experience here on Saturday 29th April 2023: 1) Only cash accepted as 'card machine broken'. This has been the case for months. Cash machine built into front of restaurant. Must be linked! 2) 2nd waiter was intimidating and said our mains were ready when we had just started eating our poppadums. He asked if we wanted them immediately. We said no! 3) Mains brought out shortly after. Another waiter described my dish as something else then corrected himself. Judging by other reviews it sounds like they serve up what they like despite the order. 4) Manager-looking staff member stood at the bar all the time checking bills. 5) Drought Cobra tasted watered down. 6) Vegetable Korma dish was too spicy. My girlfriend asked for some yoghurt and we were charged £2 for it! 7) Food Hygiene certificate displayed as a 5 when it should have been 4. 8) No receipt given. Overall we had an unpleasant experience and will NEVER go there again We will also encourage people not to eat there. We even caught a waiter eating an After Eight mint on the way to another table!

A group of 7 were there last night. We were rushed to place our orders and then rushed to vacate and pay the bill. Whilst I understand tables are needed a bit of politeness, please and thank you would have made a difference. Oh, and they tried several times to take the pickle tray away without asking if we wanted to keep it. I work in customer service and this was a good example of bad customer service. I won't be back!

We go here regularly so thought it was time I reviewed it. Was surprised to find it still there after all these years. Was a bit wary as I thought it would be rubbish but I was wrong. Great staff. Food is lovely. Prices not too bad. Recommended for a good night out with friends or as a couple.

Went recently on a really quiet night, think there were only maybe 3or 4 couples dining there. Food was good but was only warm definitely nowhere near “hot”, but the most disappointing thing was that while the staff are lovely and really attentive and regularly asking if everything’s ok, the service was just so quick like they want you in and out as quick as possible! We had only just been presented with poppadums and then not 5 minutes later our starters arrived, then after we had finished them we got our mains almost immediately. Please can you allow your customers to relax and enjoy their time with you instead of herding them in and out like cattle? Our visit would have been so much more enjoyable if this had been the case!

I ate here last night whilst away on business. Good welcome and shown straight to a table. Was left a couple of minutes to look at drinks at the back of the menu. Good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. I chose poppadoms and the pickle tray, Chicken Dhansak, Sag Paneer and a Plain Nan Bread as my meal. Poppadoms we’re fresh and a good selection in the pickle tray. The Dhansak was ok, for me it needed a touch more pineapple and more chilli heat. There was a generous amount of chicken though and again the sag paneer was generous with the paneer. The nan was fresh and fluffy. Overall a good meal and I would happily return when next in business, probably a few weeks time.

Just had an amazing freshly cooked Indian meal ,absolutely beautiful ,naan breads cooked to perfection , lovely staff , car parking to the rear of restaurant , can’t wait for next time .

Had some really good experiences at this restaurant but a recent visit means I wont be visiting again. The waiter who served us was rude, aggressive and uninterested in us as customers. He made minimal attempt to talk to us and looked put-out when we ordered our drinks. After a ridiculous wait, 45 minutes, for our food we decided that we couldn't wait any longer and told the 'senior waiter' that we wanted to leave and moved to the bar area to settle the bill for what they had provided. At this point we were told that food was now ready and we had to have it. We became surrounded by a number of staff who jostled us, someone who alleged he was the owner and a woman who alleged she was sat behind us and had heard everything. The owner was dressed casually so I am not sure who he was and the woman alleged she was sat at a table which had no space. I felt threatened and intimidated and was disgusted that rather than deal with their poor customer service in a quiet and respectful manner they decided to cause a scene, have no regard for fellow diners and concentrate more on charging me £15 for drinks! I assume that the team receive some sort of training in customer service so I'd suggest you review this training as it appears to be a waste of money.

An authentic, friendly restaurant in a drab area of Sheffield, but the best naan bread I've ever tasted! Very attentive service and fresh coriander garnishing good sized portions of food. The dishes, when brought from the kitchen could have been thermally hotter, but were placed on extremely hot chafing dishes which kept them warm. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will certainly return. Very very reasonable prices indeed for January 2023.
