Shama Balti Indian Restaurant in Kirklees

Used to come here regularly but last time was around 18 months ago and the food was lovely , thought I would give It another try after it reopened., I was very disappointed the food was no where near the quality it used to be the chicken in the curry was a horrible texture like it hadn’t been cooked properly the curry didn’t have much flavour, the lamb chop starter was poor at best very chewy and like the curry lacking in flavour. Shama used to be the best but it’s been overtaken by the 2 curry restaurants in the town centre what are far better. It will be definitely my last visit to Shama unless they up there game (higher quality of ingredients and better quality chef) It was very poor, come on Shama you can do way better

Absolutely love this restaurant - been going to it since I moved here over 30 years ago and it's never disappointed. Good selection of dishes, really tasty starters and great value for money. They can seat large parties as well as tables for two. The service is always polite and friendly and they accommodate dietary needs very well.

Ordered curry’s naan rice and seekh kebab, all great. Call tell it was all made to order, not pulled out the bottom of a freezer. My go 2 curry place from now on.

The Shama has really improved, and the currys and staff were lovely.

Went out for tea with some of the family to shama's on Bradford road in Huddersfield, we have been here quite a few times and will be visiting many more times in the near future, the place is nice, clean and the staff are welcoming and friendly, we had 4 drinks, sizzling starters, curries, rice, chips and a family garlic naan, and the price was about £15 each. I would recommend shama's to absolutely everyone.

Fantastic food and fantastic service/staff.

Great place to eat. I do not drink, but on a recent business dinner, my guests wanted an ice cold beer to enjoy with the delicious food. Bring your own, really works. We visited after a recent closure and were delighted to find that the food was still great. Still good value and excellent service.

Fast service, friendly staff,and a good curry. Only downside is that there is no alcohol licence.

One of the nicest Madras I've ever had and I eat at curry mile in Manchester a lot. Great service too! Everything from the pickle tray sauces to the breads were perfect. Highly recommend!!! Will be back soon!

Awesome curries!! I can’t believe I haven’t tried shama before. I had chilli garlic lamb and it was the best curry I’ve had in a loooong time. The texture is nice and thick, the lamb is cooked beautifully and the flavour is excellent. My mrs tasted her korma and her eyes lit up. It’s a bit dearer than the average curry take away but it’s well worth it as you’re getting top restaurant quality food.

Had a small 30th birthday party tonight. The staff on duty were impeccable, kind, very polite and helpful, the food was excellent, no complaints the food was hot, the meat was tender in all the curries. Plenty of it too, I would and will recommend the restaurant to anyone who enjoys dining out. Thank you very much to all the staff

Worst chicken tikka I have ever tried, No veggies and sauce served and very hard pieces of chicken seems like leftover from days ago. One thing more no flavour and spices very bland not recommended to anyone

The food was really good. They wasn't a lot of meat (lamb) in my curry but the flavours were spot on. The chapatis were lovely as well. This is a bring your own alcohol if you want a drink, restaurant

Been coming here for years and as always, I was provided with excellent service from all members of staff who were extremely attentive and quick. Food was delicious as always, couldn’t fault any part of the meal it was all outstanding. My friend came for the first time and said it was the tastiest curry he’s had!

Great. Mum's curry was too spicy and they exchanged it no questions asked. Lamb bunha was very good.

The chops were a very small portion and cold. the rice was cold as well. to say it took over an hour to arrive, it should have been hot.

food arrived late and cold, usually put poppadoms and pickle tray in complimentary. but didn't get it. wasn't until usual sham standard at all. the korma asked for mild as for.chikd and was spicy. ans everything was cold and needed warming up. 60 pounds worth of food all needed reheating. not happy at all really.

I just want to say how much I have been impressed by the food, staff and atmosphere at Sharma’s this evening. We came to Huddersfield, from Middlesbrough, to spend the weekend with friends for my partners birthday and chose to come to this restaurant, with our friends, on their recommendation. It was the perfect recommendation, we were certainly not disappointed. The welcome we received when we arrived was wonderful and the restaurant was immaculate and very comfortable. The staff made you feel so special and were polite and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was so tasty and perfectly cooked and presented really well. The meat was tender and succulent and just yummy. Then to top off the wonderful experience my partner was given a wonderful desert with a sparkler in it to celebrate his birthday, which made the evening even more special. I could not recommend this restaurant enough. A fantastic night, amazing food along with good company made a very special evening. Thank you everyone.

I have never left the restaurant so angry. I placed an order for the sizzling platter for my daughter and explained to the waiter If it could be cooked before and put on a plate they said that that was okay. So I just wanted some grilled food for my 1&1/2 year old because I knew she would eat that. So why did the waiter then bring five pieces of really spicy chicken and then explain to me that they wouldn’t serve me the food I requested for my daughter because they didn’t deem it was “a bad idea to give that to a baby”. Yes, lamb chops have bones in by intended to cut them up and serve the meat that she regularly eats at home. Who does the waiter think he is to have the authority to tell me how to feed my child and imply that I don’t know how to keep my child safe. I know a hot plate won’t be safe that’s why I specifically asked for it to be cooked and they said that was fine. I didn’t want to make a scene a restaurant as I didn’t want to ruin Everyone else’s experience but basically had to feed her Nan because she wasn’t able to eat anything else that was provided, because they specifically went against my order because they thought they clearly thought they knew how to look after my child better than I did. My food was nice, but that’s beyond the point and pay for food which wasn’t eaten. The audacity

We really enjoy the curries from here. We even have takeout occasionally and the staff are pleasant and friendly. All in all a good place to eat.

Marvelous. A bit "Crackers"🤣🎄 due to it being Christmas Day, but the food, service and value for money was spot on. Six of us altogether and everyone enjoyed it.

We come to sharma regularly and the food is always spot on. The service is Fantastic and the staff are really polite and friendly especially Zia. He can’t do enough for you. 100% recommend.

Great food, had a lovely meal here tonight. First time at Shama in a couple of years, and pleased to say that nothing has changed in terms of an authentic experience. Enjoyed a great meal for two the food is tasty and full of authentic flavours and delicious we will definitely be back.

Best restuarant in Kirklees! Don't be put off by area. It's easy to overlook it because it's in Fartown, but please give it a try because you wont be disapointed. Inside it's huge. Very clean and tastefully decorated with ornate pieces set in beautiful alcoves. Waiting area quite large with comfy seating. Spacious and opportunity to dine in private 'corners'. Food top quality and very tasty. My husband is fussy and says they create dishes with the best flavour. Service excellent. All staff are attentative and friendly. They were very gracious with a drunk customer who was trying to cause trouble - handled them professionally and are courteous to everyone. Lastly, the prices are very reasonable. Well worth a visit, even if you are an area snob - this restuarant is a credit to Fartown and if they continue their great service and food, they'll be around for many years to come.

If you order a curry, don't expect the spiciness that you requested. (My partner asked for a creamy/mild Korma - it was so spicy, she couldn't finish it; I love spicy, but even I had to admit that it was hot). Don't bother ordering a mixed Kebab; its the worst in Huddersfield. Dry and looked like it was several days old. Order the Tandoori Roti, its similar to naan but cheaper. Don't bother with the Chipati's, ours were undercooked (not sure how they managed this). If you order Pickle Tray, order the poppadoms separate (no idea what they are like - we didn't get any). Like complementary salad? Don't expect too much, I got two slices of cucumber, a slice of tomato on a bed of onions. The only thing I liked was my curry; the Balti Chicken Tikka Kashmiri, thats it. Like Indian? Don't order from this restaurant. I've never given a one star review and I'm often forgiving - especially on a weekend when its busy (this was a Tuesday). Don't let the fancy box that it arrives in fool you, its bad. It cost me around £35, where is the value that I paid for? Did I just pay for the box and my curry?

i cannot understand all these great reviews! Ordered for collection through Just Eats...what a mistake! Ordered medium and specifield no pieces of chilli in food. When I got it home not only was the food full of slices of red hot chillies there were also loads chopped up. The bhajis as Jason remarked on were flat, stale tasteless tiny pancakes. The mains were so chilli hot and mushy they were inedible. I rang the restaurant and was told they couldn't account for "personal preferences" and that ALL their curries came with at least two bullet chillies regardless of requests. As for the bhajis I got the usual, no one else has ever complained and people love them de dah de dah. He wasn't in the slightest bit bothered and tried to put the problem back on me. The menu does not state that the food I ordered contained red hot chillis. I requested a refund which was refused. I took it up with Just Eat who also refused saying that they are not responsible for takeaways not fulfilling requests. Also whoever heard of overwhelming curry powder in the egg rice!!!

We order the same everytime, this time the food was way to hot, unedible, it was too hot for the kids. So the kids went without and we suffered with terrible guts! What a waste,not happy.

My food was never delivered. I waited for like an hour and called the restaurant to ask where's my food. They claimed they sent the driver for delivery who tried to call you and left voicemail but the truth is no one came to deliver the food and I haven't got any voicemails from anyone. They are lying on your face as I ordered right before 15 mins of restaurant closing time and I guess they didn't want to prepare and deliver. Worst experience of such a big named restaurant. Never ever ordering again. I don't know if I will ever get my money refunded.

The samosas at £5 + were obviously from frozen and the onion bhaji was shaped like a burger and about 5mm thick and was as dry and tasteless as a carpet tile

First time I've ordered from this takeaway, which was recommended to me, and I can honestly say it's quite possibly the best takeaway I've had

The portions are small I asked for mild and was still spicy , but on the whole the food is very fresh tasty and arrived way before it was supposed to arrive which was not a big deal but just bare that in mind if you’re not at home when ordering.

Weren’t lover of there way of cooking Indian food, and get bigger portions elsewhere too.

Jang served us and did a tremendous job in making us feeling at home. Great food and hospitality.
