Shahi Masala in Birmingham

We had a nikkah party arranged at shahi masala last week. Although food was fine but manager is so rude and won’t even coordinate with us. We were booked for 50 people and were a bit late he could have easily gave us at least some concession but no he charged us extra. Staff is really slow and guy who seems like manager was rude. I think it’s decent place to dine but very poor for events. Zero humanity zero sympathy from staff

Better to go to Kabul Darbar than to spend £ 22 over here.

La comida es sabrosa , estoy escribiendo esta crítica debido a la persona que me insultaron, no soy un no comedor de verduras a diario , sin embargo de vez en cuando, cuando fui a las chuletas de cordero, hay una persona que está asando el cordero, al verlos de repente me sentí como no bien y me quitaron el plato, sin embargo, me quedé allí para probarlo, y la persona estaba enojada y hacer que se ponga 3 minutos delante de él y más tarde me preguntó ¿qué quieres? ¿Por qué sigues parado aquí? Cuando respondí por las chuletas de cordero, se queja de mí y de mi comportamiento a mis colegas. Me sentí muy incómodo y vergonzoso delante de mis colegas. Aparte de que la comida es sabrosa, el ambiente es bueno, los servidores estaban muy concentrados en limpiar las cosas, etc.

One of the best Restaurants in the area. Their Charsi Tikka is a must try. I have tasted almost all the food at offer in my Birmingham and surroundings but this Charsi Tikka is best hands down. Everything else is delicious and fresh too. Friendly atmosphere and traditional seating available too.

Great food. Good choices. We were a party of 70. Time 5.30 to 7. It was too busy and difficult to get to food stalls. Good staff but they need to clear the tables quickly

You have to try out this place!!!!! Every dish is fresh The buttered chicken is amazing I can go on and on about every dish but it's best if you just come and try for yourselves

We are very disappointed to see the cockroaches live around the food we called the staff and showed him he killed the cockroach with his hand front of us we tried to talk to the manager but he is not on the shift we don’t want to use this place again

Best desi food buffet in Birmingham. The food was very good especially the grilled lamb chops. In starter you get loads of variety. Unlimited drinks including mango lassi. Desserts were very yummy, especially ice cream. Suitable for vegetarians as well. You first pay then they let you enter which is £22. Would recommend to others who fancy spicy food.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with the service and food in Birmingham. I would advise against visiting this place and instead recommend Zauq Buffet, which offers a wide variety of items and great taste. My experience at this buffet was quite unfortunate.

The man working the front desk when you first arrive was incredibly rude, even came to our table after we paid and demanded more money! ( could have been handled way better if you thought we miscounted by 1 person) I also noticed all the families with white people were placed in one corner of the restaurant which made all of us attending very uncomfortable! I came to Shahi Masala a day in the December Christmas Holidays, and I would like to say my experience was PHENOMENAL, everything was perfection. There is lots of variety in starters, main dish, sides, desserts, and not to mention for the price of 22 pound per adult that includes drinks (AND MANGO LASSI UNLIMITTED and bear in mind this is the only place in Birmingham I know which does so) I would like to say I'm really liked the atmosphere and we got seated right away. The main meals were really nice, for example the nihari and butter chicken had a stunning taste of all the masalas mixed, I would also like to say the food id not spicy, its medium at highest. There id huge huge variety in starters too. Big selection of desserts, ranging from sprinkle cake with warm custard, apple crumble cake with warm custard, and this buffet even serves Mr Tees very famous ice cream, they also have a separate big salad and sauce bar. The decor is stunning throughout this buffet and the fountain outside provides space to take photos and create memories, overal 10/10. I have been to Ziryab, Roya Shalimar, Zauq but I feel like Shahi Masala is just the best out of all, highly recommend bring your family and friends and indulge in their rich tastes, NOTE : The waiters were really helpful walking around and even collect your dirty plates from your tables, HIGHLY RECOMMEND One thing I found really displeasing however was the chocolate fountain, there is a massive chandelier above it and it out me off, surely all the dust goes into it....

Naan were not properly cooked - any one who eaten the naan had stomach problem. Charged me £41.23 while actual order was for £34.45. Food wasn't tasty.

Food was absolutely tasteless , overrated , drinks had no fizz , overall a very bad experience . Would never go again , too expensive when food has no quality . No Cod fish or southern fried chicken . Smell of toilets was all over the restaurant floor and this put us off even more .

Good starters choice of everything abit of the starters was dry the chicken strippers was nice the curry's not the best no taste att all abit pricey for what it is but worth the choice of food you get sauces was dry not much of a choice in sauce.

Parece que la variedad se había reducido, pero , eso fue algo bueno para que no hubiera demasiado desperdicio por parte de la gente. Solo decepcionado de que el salteado hecho fresco no tenía ningún camarón / gambas que lo haría un poco auténtico y sabroso. No probé el postre como también pobre variedad. Espero que esto se tome como una nota constructiva y ligeros cambios harán toda la diferencia. El personal es muy acogedor y hospitalario. Gracias 👍

Este restaurante buffet es, con diferencia, el mejor de todo el país y cuando tenemos familiares o amigos de visita desde el extranjero este es el lugar que les traemos. El lugar es exquisito, el personal profesional, respetuoso y atento. Shai Masala puede estar muy ocupado, pero el personal nunca deja de recoger sus vasos y platos, ya que disfruta de la variedad de platos disponibles. La oferta gastronómica es impresionante. Para las bebidas tienes bebidas gaseosas, jugos, agua y mango Lassi. Una enorme barra de ensaladas y sección para condimentos, sección de parrilla para chuletas de cordero y pollo, barra de fideos para los que les gustan sus fideos, entrantes con pollo y kebabs de cordero, pakoras de todo tipo, entrantes vegetarianos, popadomas, galletas de gambas y mucho más con algo para los más pequeños ya que les encantarán las pizzas y patatas fritas. Los platos principales son deliciosas bocas, desde pastas y lasaña hasta currys vegetarianos, de carne, pollo y pescado para elegir. I recently went there with the family and was completely blown away by the variety of food available. I've been to a number of buffet places in the Midlands and can honestly say this one is the best. For £22 you get a large selection of foods and free unlimited drink refills.

Rude and inconsiderate staff. Led by the influence of the main manager/owner (elder gent at the till) so no surprise the rest follow his demeanour.

This is a very nice buffet restaurant, the owner is a pakistan. This is an independent building and it looked like a palace. It also has its own free parking lot. There’s a lot of options however there isn’t sea food. But if you don’t like spice, maybe you should reconsider before going. Yes this is a 100% halal restaurant. If you are Muslim you can relax and enjoy the food without fear. Children under 5 can eat for free, and children under 10 eat for half the price, I think these prices are very fair. And coca cola free The staff is the most capable ones I’ve seen in England. It’s like the staff at the white house. They check on the tables every 5 minutes and they make it their duty to have absolutely no trash on your table. If you have a sweet tooth i think you will not be disappointed trying this buffet. The only criticism I have is I think they need to provide more green, just cucumber and tomatoes is not enough for a balanced meal. The queue at this place is a mess due to how successful it is. If there was a guard with giving out numbers or whatnot should fix the problem. If the owner wants the restaurant to flourish more he could try and add some different dishes like maybe sushi. But I don’t think there’s such need as this place is VERY successful. This is a very successful owner and a very successful restaurant. We will definitely be coming back. Please don’t forget they also provide a room for prayers, if you are Muslim you can pray without worries and or distractions. Clearly while making bank, the owner did not forget the existence of Allah. So the in conclusion if you were pondering on whether or not you should visit I 100% recommend this buffet. Also if you finished eating there is also lots of places and mini markets near by that provides fruits you could purchase. This area is a very friendly place with lots of Pakistan and Indian people. You are less likely to see white english people, but rest well, this is a very safe area as this area has almost no drunk people or people doing drugs.

Good ambiance and fresh food. Price is reasonable, drinks are free including mango lasi ... choclate foutain too. It has better parking space than zaryab. Obviosuly you can not compare it with Nawab .. but still it is worth the money if you want a decent buffet in Birmingham..

Lots of dishes but the quality of the food is not there the lamb chops chicken was raw eventhough I had told the man cooking they didnt fix the problem. As it was quite busy when entering there was no order people were saying they had paid and waiting on tables sat inside eventhough your told 90 mins max no one is checking needs more staff at the door for a better service

Very happy with the food. So many dishes to choose from. Specially the lamb chops were so delicious. I did wanted to try many other dishes but missed out on quite a lot. Will be back for more though. It was a great time out with the family. Money well spent.

Absolutely disgusting. Decided to go to the toilet before I could even sit down I looked up in the vent and over 10 DEAD rats just sitting up there. Honestly vile. This is a breach of every single health and safety check there has ever been. How this place is still open I don’t even know. Somehow there was no smell, obvious that the buffet knew about it and decided to cover up the smell instead of getting rid of the problem. Never visiting EVER again. If I could vote this 0 stars I absolutely would. Sadly that isn’t an option so I have to vote one, which is very generous for this absolutely disregard in public health. Please shut this place down asap to anyone going please use this as a warning. Food is good, but you won’t even be as to have another bite once you step into the women’s toilet. Round of applause for Birmingham’s most disgusting, vomit inducing cheap skate of a buffet. And I’m being completely honest. Save yourself the money

Day out with family ended up at Shahi Masala after shopping. Food was really amazing nice selection, also unlimited drink refills help urself with a range or really nice flavours. Pricing was very responsible £22per Adults £10per kids. Wish they had this Pricing in Manchester, will be going back for sure!

Pretty good! Can't complain about the value. Lamb chops were good as far as Pakistani buffet lamb chops go. Lots of food and desserts to choose from. All you can eat, all you can drink. Liked the chocolate fountain. Brownies were a let down, they didnt taste great, tasted like store bought brownies.

Loved this place. My second time here with family. It was lovely, however I gave it 4 stars cos my mum and brother had dodgy bellies after having the mango lassi.

Starters where bit dry chicken was overcooked the curry was nice

Bit noisy but big car park and great range of food. People mostly had chocolate fountain and ice cream I think. Fish was my favourite I had it for starter and main.

After some time, I finally got a chance to enjoy their buffet, which was a big disappointment, Food was so tasteless, and it was like some children making food for fun. It was advertised so good but we all 16 people have very big disappointment. Well I wasted my money But you can choose a better one, or try yourself if you not to believe here.

You get what you paid for - the best I can describe the place. Good atmosphere if you coming as family or as group. My favourite are Haleem and Lamb Ribs. Only issue is, if you don't live around and don't have a car, then you might have to take 2 buses to reach the place from the town.

I didn't like the food. Sorry ... Kabul Darbar is much better.

A very very busy restaurant. Great selection on meat curries which other buffet places do not offer. The only downside was the food were a lot cold than elsewhere.

An excellent selection of halal food and the best halal buffet by any margin within the east midlands. Constantly improving and growing in both their cuisine and physically (ie: the two floors that have magically appeared within half a year). I assume catering is something they can do and intend to have a function hall at some point on the second floor. Service is quick if you make the effort to get in early. Otherwise the wait is long as diners have 90mins of chow-time. Would love to see an improvement in the dessert section, but I have seen improvements already. Allhamdulillah there is a salah area. I can see the barakah in both the food and the business expansion. May Allah keep their business open. Ample parking and easy to navigate venue. Nice cafe at the end of the car park.

It's quick, good variety, drinks included. Could expand the dessert menu, overall quality could be better but all good.

Nice little buffet. Pay on entry, and drinks are included, about 20 quid per person. Not a bad selection. The curries are tasty. There is live cooking here, but mostly just veg. Free car park here as well. :)

Después de haber tenido numerosas grandes experiencias en Shahi Masala anteriormente, pensé que sería una gran oportunidad para volver a visitarlo una década después. Sin embargo, mis expectativas se quedaron cortas, y me quedé decepcionado e insatisfecho. Para empezar, las chuletas de cordero se quemaron hasta el punto de que no eran comestibles, el pollo estaba mal cocido y las chuletas McCain no eran más que empapadas y aceitosas. Otra molestia fue el hecho de que la ensalada de col se había disparado, dejando un sabor agrio en la boca después. Sin embargo, cuando traté de comunicar esto al personal no entendieron lo que estaba diciendo. Con un precio de £ 20 por cabeza, la calidad de la comida en Shahi Masala lamentablemente ha bajado colina abajo y no me ha animado a volver a visitar este lugar de nuevo. Como nota positiva, el helado del Sr. Whipple era fantástico!

I only go now and then with friends. And so... Description below. LARGE AREA. It's a big place. CAR PARK : Has a car park. SELF SERVICE/BUFFET. PRICES : I think it's now between £20-22pp. But please confirm this with them. BUSY: Usually very busy, Families Children, Couples, Friends, Groups, work groups etc... Usually Packed. FOOD: Massive selection. Pizza, fries, potatoes, chicken varieties, Eastern. Starters, mains, salads, sauces, & Sweets etc... DRINKS : Refills of Soft drinks, water, juices etc ( all inclusive ) ALCOHOL : NO. I have never seen alcohol there. So you could ring up to confirm if you "need" this! PAY : They have a cash machine also by the counter & have used our payment cards also. Personally, we've never had a problem. Always enjoyed it. Maybe had to wait few minutes to get a table now and then but never a problem as such. Self service Buffet. They continuously take finished/used plates from your table, and you just go pick up fresh ones from the counters etc.. Please leave a 👍🏻 If you find this useful . Thank you. T care.

Nice Asian All you can eat option. Food was a bit bland though. I can understand that it is customesed to suit local appetite however, it takes away the originality. When you have over 100 items, it makes sense to have atleast some of them could represent the origin. Overall experience was good.

Overall average experience, food was okay, they let too many people in at one time so was a little frenzied not a pleasant experience. It was a free for all to be honest. A lot of dishes were under a glass sheild perfect for kids but as an adult had to stoop very low to get the food. The sauce bay was placed in a way where if you got the sauces from the back they would fall into the other sauces. Seems like not much thought into the customer experience was put in. Expect more for £22 pounds a head. Staff were nice on a positive but overall management at the top seems poor. Cutlery was always running out and bowls for desserts were finished. They probably let too many people in seems like.

Fabulous non-veg.Restaurant offering Indian cuisine, I would say. Easily the outstanding one in Birmingham. Fabulous spread - especially Lamb varieties, curry, salsa, Biryani, Kaba s, excellent, had Indian taste. You have Roti, naan, Pizza, Pasta, importantly Dosa, a delight-full South Indian variety. Live cooking, of course desserts & ice cream. No restrictions to staying time. Courteous service. Spacious car parking & very nice ambience.

So, I went yesterday night just because of top ratings on google but it really disappointed me. The quality of food was worse than you can imagine and the flavour was zero. As an asian what we want, food rich in flavour but it was quite opposite in this buffet. Literally butter chicken was sweet, half of the menu was not present. Not recommended.

Visited with family of up to 25 people. It was very busy as it was a Saturday night. Food was average and it’s expensive for the price as you do not eat £22 worth of food! The whole experience was rushed as you only get an hour and a half to eat so you do not get a chance to have a breather between meals which is what I did, but then only to be told that we had to leave as our time slot had finished! Rushed to grab dessert only to come back to have the floor manager standing over us which was extremely rude! To top it all off we were accused of sneaking 2 extra people in which the floor manager wanted us to pay for!! Had to explain that the 2 people were already part of the group and had gone out for a cigarette break which he just was not understanding! Had to complain at reception about this! For £22 I’d expect hot drinks to be included and a 2 hour slot for eating! Don’t think I’ll be visiting again as it was rushed, rude service which therefore spoilt the whole experience!!

Really nice buffet restaurant. Great selection of a wide variety of continental foods. Service by staff members was great. The quality of food was good. Fantastic that the drinks are included including mango lassi!. The only downside is the kids sticking their fingers under the chocolate fountain while coating their food :(
