Shahi Masala in Birmingham

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this place but once I have tried it I personally won’t recommend this to anyone the food they give is have some kind of wired smell and lamb chops was not well cooked 0 out of 10

Leftovers and nothing available in sweets, bad experience didn’t worth £22 each… waste of money

Me and 2 other friends went to shahi masala for the first time, as soon as we walked in we was greeted by asking us to pay first so we made the payment coming inside to our table there was few more table but the restaurant was dead, anyway we went to get our food the first thing we saw dirty plates so we had to clean that ourselves! I really don’t no where to start about the food? Everything was old and cold there was a dish called aloo keema I think I swear that was off so we skip that went to get some lamb biryani there was rice but no lamb and there was a Romanian woman came with a plastic container carrying some lamb that was heated in the microwave. You might be thinking how do I know that because there is no way when you cook something from fresh it will steam so much and the Meat was absolutely rubber so you can tell it was microwave she put the lamb inside the biryani and mixed it I was shocked,I told one of the waiters that the keema is gone off you really wouldn’t really believe what he said…. Thank you very much I look at my friend I said is he ok so I repeat myself he said go tell the manager where you paid at the paint I noticed that we made a big mistake coming here…. They always say the nicer the place the food is always bad I wish they spend that much money on decor of the restaurant 10% of that if they put on the food, it’ll be really nice. so we started eating as I said the food was cold and the few chefs standing on other side picking his nose that was so nasty that you think is that the chef cooked all this? so we skipped the food we thought we will have some desserts went I get some small cake I thought they were nice but it was so old that I put one on the plate with spoon I was trying to brake it in half I told the same waiter his reply was tell the front where you paid, I paid £70 something for nothing. I went at the front I told they guy that brother nothing is fresh I told him about the keema his reply was oh thank you very much I really didn’t have nothing to say I said I will leave you guy a bad review because you could kill someone selling your old food, foods that’s gone off avid this restaurant I think they should close down shame on management!!!!

Very disappointed with the food nearly all the starters were cold I had grilled chicken which was dry same with sheesh kebabs like I said majority of the food was cold...the management needs to have look at this problem..please keep in mind I don't have any problems with the owners or anyone else I'm just giving my opinion I will be going back again in couple of weeks to see if things improved or not.

A place with a very large buffet, many different dishes, you can choose without any limits. Both lunch dishes, salads, barbecue and sweets, including ice cream. Almost all tables were occupied, we were there late in the afternoon. Customers are mainly families. You can try many dishes and eat without limits.

Shahi Masala Buffet used to be one of the worst places to eat—bad food, bad service, and just a terrible experience overall. Lately, the management has improved, and the place looks better and a bit more organized. But even with those changes, the food is still not good, and it feels like the place won’t last long. It might be okay for now, but don’t expect it to stay that way.

The service was adequate but not exceptional; everything was satisfactory. However, the ninety-minute table limit is restrictive. In my opinion, Royal Shalimar offers a superior dining experience compared to Shahi Masala.

Chicken tikka pieces were Raw and the lamb chops were burnt. Chef couldn’t get anything right… Lassi was also watered down. I won’t be coming here again.

I would not go to this restaurant again the reason it’s that when I came here with my family It costs £22 if you’re an adult and above 10 years old if your below 10 it costs £10 and I got full very quickly and I barely ate one plate. This is very shocking because I eat alot somehow when I came here I got full and wasted £22 they put something in your food so that you get full quickly. I had stomach problems to after I left the buffet and drove back home I felt like I haven’t eating anything but I couldn’t move at all. Definitely not going here again

I just ate at this place and my experience was very bad the food was cold they were serving food from the other day and it was leftovers and it was dirty the staff were mostly rude I’d recommend to you to go to Royal Shalimar the first time I went there my experience was top class food was flavourful and delicious very clean and very kind staff since then every time I came to Birmingham I went there and I still do pls don’t go Shahi masala go Royal shalimar beacuse it’s the best choice.1

Food is really nice. Not an Islamic environment at all though. Went during Ramadan, there's non stop music and the number of crowds both inside and outside and free-mixing at the buffet is probably the reason I wouldn't go again in a hurry anytime soon and definitely not during Ramadan ever again. Women's prayer room is visible in front of tables as there's gaps in the 'separator' I prayed with a niqab on because there were different men in front of me sitting at the tables. Was an uncomfortable experience. Oh, plus the music was very much still playing loudly while I was praying

Food was decent bog standard buffet food lamb chops were amazing so was pizzas but my issue was with the baby changing station in the women’s toilet it hadn’t been cleaned in what looks like years and the “changing mat” that was SMOTHERED in baby poo I’m suprised it didn’t have mould growing on it honestly as a Muslim friendly restaurant I would’ve expected better care for infants and what I saw today was actually disgraceful please clean your baby station correctly and often and GET RID OF THAT CHANGING MAT it’s actually rank I dunno how no one’s put it in the bin unless you lot keep digging it out

My cousin of age only 8 years old slipped on a mess that wasn't cleaned up after staff were told multiple times to clean it up but only make an effort to put a few tissues on it. She was injured and left crying. After informing the staff about this incident, they began to blame the child for "not being careful enough" when they had not even set up a wet floor sign or anything to indicate the mess. We asked for the manager numerous times without being accepted. Once finally meeting the manager, they continued to argue and blame us for this. Although the food was exquisite, we would rate the customer service a one star and would have second thoughts about coming back.

Went in with high expectations. I'll be honest, this place has been on my radar for a while now. Been meaning to go for years but just haven't had the chance to. Always get told that it's the best buffet place in Birmingham. Well I was disappointed. The food, though having a lot of variety, lacked flavour, and therefore lacked giving me any reason to go back for another portion. While I did try everything, nothing stands out as particularly amazing. Which brings me to the biggest disappointment, the lamb chops. I have been told again and again that the lamb chops from here are to blow me away. So imagine my surprise when I load up my plate with them, take a bite and chew on rather unseasoned chewy meat. Completely took me aback. I will be honest, I needed to take a minute to recover after this. The experience has left me shaken and disoriented. Completely unprovoked, a tragedy. Other than this, the service was good, nothing to blow me away with. The facilities and lavatory were all kept to a good standard and overall decent. The drink selection was good, and I very much enjoyed the wide array of dessert options. The atmosphere was good, though a little loud (to be expected of a buffet I suppose) Would encourage others to go and form their own opinion. Me personally, I expected better chops.

Extremely busy, very overwhelming, hygiene is poor. Food is cold and does not taste nice. Unfortunately a lot of food waste. Best thing was the popadoms. Chocolate fountain stank - equipment is clearly not cleaned properly.

The bathroom needs attention, and the food is good. The staff is reasonably nice.

After my last review on shahi masala I decided to re write my review After disappointing experience 4 years ago I decided to go again as I believe things can improve what not I went on a weekday (Monday 24th March 2025) and I was shocked to see how busy it was as it was Ramadan which is understandable despite it being busy I waited for around 20 mins which wasn't bad (went after 7pm) the parking attendant was useless (think shahi masala have too much money and just paid some idoit to stand in the car park) as he allowed a car to park by the gate which literally caused disruption for cars coming in and leaving! He didn't even go inside and inform management to make announcement to have car moved to make it easier The front of house lady was amazing very polite and friendly A lot of food options did feel that the grill chef for the chops would pick and chose how many chops he would give out despite it stating a specific amount per plate There was a lot of Pakistani curries to choose from, the dosa was a disappointment as there was no chutneys or sambhar to go with it, noodles was mediocre Desserts were box standard The atmosphere was hectic too many kids running around didn't really appreciate when I was getting food had member of staff trying to sweep the floor and expected me to move by hitting the broom on my footwear she could have used her manners or even better sweep when the customers have sat down and it's not as busy!!

Shame, used to be unlimited stay, now only 90 min, which is not fair...in 90 min, you can't feed your self. I won't be going next time

Los alimentos no tienen sabor. todos los alimentos estaban fríos excepto la chuleta de cordero. Y el resto de la comida con papas fritas tiene dinero y tiempo. Si quieres buena comida solo prueba mi.

Very good choice of food and drinks. Was very busy on Saturday, however all items were being restocked frequently. Plenty of space for parking. Only let down was the Dosa & Shawarma counter. Could have a bigger Dosa stone to prepare more dosas at the same time. The Chef at the Dosa counter didn't pass the vibe check at all, maybe it's just me.

The food is very good, with excellent variety and fresh every time you go to the buffet. The location and parking facilities are great too. The only uncomfortable thing about eating at this buffet restaurant, is that they have crammed in so many tables into the restaurant, that your table is only a few inches away from the next table. You can hear their conversations either side of your table and no doubt they can hear your conversations too.

Food was horrible, land chops burned after waiting 10 minutes for them. Roast chicken horrible taste . Ice cream physically can not be any smaller. Plates were a joke tiny. Stay away disgusting. End up having upset stomach

Best Buffet Ever! We had a weekdays iftar buffet experience with toddler. No advanced booking was required. Per person £22 charged. Everything was perfect! The food was fresh and delicious with a lots of options! And all the staff was super friendly and really helpfully concerned and the place was clean. This is the best buffet I’ve ever been to so far! We will definitely come back.

Busy Ramadan night, but AMAZING Halal buffet! Huge variety (10/10), especially desserts (10/10). Mains & BBQ good (8/10), starters okay (7/10). Overall taste 8/10. 100% recommend, especially for Iftar. Thanks to the hard-working staff!

They have a massive selection of food which was good i liked everything I ate but the wife had a bit of a bad reaction from a member of the staff but all was good I'd go again and the blue deserts are amazing

Very tasty the food. A lots of drinks included. Spicy and not spicy food, the only problem for me it was the caraway seeds on too many dishes.

Decent place to eat work enough options

Shahi Masala is nicely refurbished, however, the Prayer Room, toilets and cutlery need to be upscaled... the music was very loud, we could barely hear each other... on the positive there is lots of car parking spaces, food is nice and drinks are bottomless... the price is ONLY £22 per adult...

Nice family friendly buffet everything was fresh

For a buffet it is pretty satisfactory. You have a festival of choice and drinks (fizzy) are included. The food was okay, nothing to rave home about. After the first plate I became pretty full despite not loading a lot onto it. My guess is they probably add a few ingredients to make you feel fuller. I was looking forward to the chocolate fountain but the marshmallows had been sitting out for a while and were stale. Was not a fan. As I don’t go to buffets often and tend to stick to restaurants maybe this is a reason for the low review but I most likely will not go again.

Very good ambience, food is yummy, delicious, large variety of food, good desserts, mango lassi also is served. Masala Dosa is good but no sambhar and chutney which is important. Salad options are good.

Food and service wad good but my only problem was the chocolate fountain...children were putting their fingers inside the fountain and double dipping, one child licked his Ice cream and put it under the chocolate..please ensure that there is staff around this area and have it controlled its putting people of

This place has a variety of dishes but as I and my daughter were going for our main course, We happened to see this woman put back rice from her plate back into the food warmer using her bare hands!!! We were speechless and put off to eat again and left. Very poor hygiene, and staff don't seem to be bothered. I would never go back to this place.

It was over crowded plus food wasn’t good. Went twice there but both occasions disappointed.

Overall was a good night out with my family. Friendly staff, food was nice , drinks included in the buffet on tap which was lovely. The only thing I don’t understand is, why were we , a group of seven given a six seater table with an extra chair at the end of the table, when there were 8 seater tables available ????

Generally the place is great, but some food needs improvement for example in the desserts, the jelly's texture is always quite hard and the ice cream should have more variety rather than the just one flavour.

We had a nikkah party arranged at shahi masala last week. Although food was fine but manager is so rude and won’t even coordinate with us. We were booked for 50 people and were a bit late he could have easily gave us at least some concession but no he charged us extra. Staff is really slow and guy who seems like manager was rude. I think it’s decent place to dine but very poor for events. Zero humanity zero sympathy from staff

Better to go to Kabul Darbar than to spend £ 22 over here.

La comida es sabrosa , estoy escribiendo esta crítica debido a la persona que me insultaron, no soy un no comedor de verduras a diario , sin embargo de vez en cuando, cuando fui a las chuletas de cordero, hay una persona que está asando el cordero, al verlos de repente me sentí como no bien y me quitaron el plato, sin embargo, me quedé allí para probarlo, y la persona estaba enojada y hacer que se ponga 3 minutos delante de él y más tarde me preguntó ¿qué quieres? ¿Por qué sigues parado aquí? Cuando respondí por las chuletas de cordero, se queja de mí y de mi comportamiento a mis colegas. Me sentí muy incómodo y vergonzoso delante de mis colegas. Aparte de que la comida es sabrosa, el ambiente es bueno, los servidores estaban muy concentrados en limpiar las cosas, etc.

One of the best Restaurants in the area. Their Charsi Tikka is a must try. I have tasted almost all the food at offer in my Birmingham and surroundings but this Charsi Tikka is best hands down. Everything else is delicious and fresh too. Friendly atmosphere and traditional seating available too.

We are very disappointed to see the cockroaches live around the food we called the staff and showed him he killed the cockroach with his hand front of us we tried to talk to the manager but he is not on the shift we don’t want to use this place again

Best desi food buffet in Birmingham. The food was very good especially the grilled lamb chops. In starter you get loads of variety. Unlimited drinks including mango lassi. Desserts were very yummy, especially ice cream. Suitable for vegetarians as well. You first pay then they let you enter which is £22. Would recommend to others who fancy spicy food.

All the food was really nice and warm today as we got there when they opened.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with the service and food in Birmingham. I would advise against visiting this place and instead recommend Zauq Buffet, which offers a wide variety of items and great taste. My experience at this buffet was quite unfortunate.

The man working the front desk when you first arrive was incredibly rude, even came to our table after we paid and demanded more money! ( could have been handled way better if you thought we miscounted by 1 person) I also noticed all the families with white people were placed in one corner of the restaurant which made all of us attending very uncomfortable! I came to Shahi Masala a day in the December Christmas Holidays, and I would like to say my experience was PHENOMENAL, everything was perfection. There is lots of variety in starters, main dish, sides, desserts, and not to mention for the price of 22 pound per adult that includes drinks (AND MANGO LASSI UNLIMITTED and bear in mind this is the only place in Birmingham I know which does so) I would like to say I'm really liked the atmosphere and we got seated right away. The main meals were really nice, for example the nihari and butter chicken had a stunning taste of all the masalas mixed, I would also like to say the food id not spicy, its medium at highest. There id huge huge variety in starters too. Big selection of desserts, ranging from sprinkle cake with warm custard, apple crumble cake with warm custard, and this buffet even serves Mr Tees very famous ice cream, they also have a separate big salad and sauce bar. The decor is stunning throughout this buffet and the fountain outside provides space to take photos and create memories, overal 10/10. I have been to Ziryab, Roya Shalimar, Zauq but I feel like Shahi Masala is just the best out of all, highly recommend bring your family and friends and indulge in their rich tastes, NOTE : The waiters were really helpful walking around and even collect your dirty plates from your tables, HIGHLY RECOMMEND One thing I found really displeasing however was the chocolate fountain, there is a massive chandelier above it and it out me off, surely all the dust goes into it....

Naan were not properly cooked - any one who eaten the naan had stomach problem. Charged me £41.23 while actual order was for £34.45. Food wasn't tasty.

Food was absolutely tasteless , overrated , drinks had no fizz , overall a very bad experience . Would never go again , too expensive when food has no quality . No Cod fish or southern fried chicken . Smell of toilets was all over the restaurant floor and this put us off even more .

Good starters choice of everything abit of the starters was dry the chicken strippers was nice the curry's not the best no taste att all abit pricey for what it is but worth the choice of food you get sauces was dry not much of a choice in sauce.

Parece que la variedad se había reducido, pero , eso fue algo bueno para que no hubiera demasiado desperdicio por parte de la gente. Solo decepcionado de que el salteado hecho fresco no tenía ningún camarón / gambas que lo haría un poco auténtico y sabroso. No probé el postre como también pobre variedad. Espero que esto se tome como una nota constructiva y ligeros cambios harán toda la diferencia. El personal es muy acogedor y hospitalario. Gracias 👍
