Shackleton's Of Bare in Lancaster

This hugely popular wine bar and eating establishment, a stone's throw from the shores of Morecambe Bay, was our destination for a tea-time treat. Three of us ordered a trio of mouth-watering boards adorned with a rich variety of tempting morsels......from Lancashire pork pies and slices of ham to an impressive range of cheeses, with lots of little pots of tasty and tangy chutneys and pickles, together with extremely moorish bread and crispy crackers. A quite splendid, locally sourced feast accompanied by a velvety rioja. All in all, a wonderful experience in a cosy, welcoming atmosphere. Congratulations to Gill and all those in front of house and the kitchen. The family running Shackleton's have a distant link to the legendary Antarctic explorer of the same name....one thing's for sure, Sir Ernest would have been more than happy to trek across the most challenging ice-field in order to share a board here in Morecambe!

Visited here, after wanting to try for ages. Well definitely not disappointed, although going up for 2pm, the place was packed, but they moved a table and accommodated us. Honestly have to say, it was one of the best cheese boards we’ve had. The wine was superb, my other half had the pizza and his complaint was that there was a little too much pulled pork on it, which surely isn’t a grumble. Would definitely recommend.

Brought my mum here today and they were fantastic yet again. Excellent food, great atmosphere and great service.

Great find for our evening meal. The wine and food were very good and staff were welcoming. The acoustics were very good too - no problems hearing each other for a change! Plenty of free parking near by. This is a lovely spot just outside Morecambe.

Very helpful staff and nothing was to much trouble, board's are superb valve, not had a pizza yet but look tasty. Over all spot on, Little gem

What an amazing place to eat and drink wine. We were staying in Morecambe for the weekend and found out about this place on line. So glad we booked Gill was so friendly from booking to arriving. The wine she recommended to go with the Ultimate sharing board was perfect. We also had a pork pie as a side. Would highly recommend to book to avoid being disappointed.

We've been here a few times now and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Simple food done well and a nice friendly environment. Well worth a try.

Just after the close of the January blues we all need a pick me up. Wine tasting at Shackletons never fails to give you just that and a whole lot more. A night of light hearted banter, beautiful wines and not to mention Steve’s culinary delights that never fail to satisfy all tastes and appetites, you can’t fail to leave with a warm heart, big smile on your face and and yearn to return. Gill and team you nailed it again.. just what the Dr. ordered!!

Great little space to relax for a bite or drink (or both). We make a point of coming here when visiting friends who live local and i must say coming from i wish this was my local!! Great job from the owner & staff on making people feel welcome and relaxed. Will definitely be back on our return :)

How can a cafe get coffee so wrong. I’d be wary of eating here if the coffee is anything to go by. A flat white - I don’t think

Called in on a music festival weekend. A couple called Connie and Nathan were playing who were great to listen to. The service was fantastic on this busy Sunday afternoon. We had a cheese board selection which was fantastic and really good beers on offer. Looking forward to returning soon.

First time in a small local, the welcome and service was brilliant, team all worked well to give us our reseved table the best service... Nothing to much trouble... Ale was spot on, well looked after, food, sharing board was lovely... Honestly felt like I was spoiled when we visited... Definitely recommend...

Great find in Bare. Cosy atmosphere, suggest booking on busier evenings. Good choice of drinks, sharing boards looked substantial and good value. Will need to leave room next time for one

Girls regular get together aiming not to lose touch in our busy lives!! The choice of food is now more expansive with a brunch served 12-2 followed by boards and specials from 3pm. Pizzas made to order by the Shackleton chef were amazing. The flavours and ingredients fresh and explosive combinations compliment the various choices. The knowledge of drinks being served is the perfect addition to a great afternoon and value for money….. The atmosphere in this little gem in Bare is well worth the visit! All accountable to the Gill and her Team!

Small wine bar with very friendly staff and excellent sharing platters. There's also a small specials board. Did I say the sharing platters are excellent?! Limited opening times, especially during the day, so check first and best to book

Nice place but we went at the wrong time.. 5 00 pm World cup final afternoon. Quite empty. Staff were fine, lovely young lady served us, very amiable. Nice bottle of wine and sharing cheese and meat board. No problem with extra butter and bread when requested. Will go back when it's a busier time for better atmosphere, otherwise fine experience.

Absolutely amazing! We were visiting from Edinburgh and booked this wee place to go for a drink and some food. We ended up staying all night until near close time and had the most wonderful time! We tried every wine served by glass on the menu and what an amazing experience. I have a gluten intolerance and they literally went out of their way to make sure they had a gluten free roll to go with my curry. Such a lovely wee place! We also had a nice chat about each wine with the Gill which totally made our experience. Highly highly recommend! I noted a few reviews said the place was a bit pricey but in my opinion you simply get what you pay for and l'd say the prices are fair given the high quality of food, service and drinks. Highly recommend this wee place! 🙂

Thankyouxx gill for such a lovely evening last Friday it was our first visit to your micro pubs we sat at the bar and was welcomed almost straight away by the lovely bar staff the bar has a great choice of beer wine and food and you feel such a great atmosphere on entering it was great to catch up with you and your family we will certainly be coming again xx

Having recently dined here (with a group of blokes) the curry being rather tasty... Decided to take the family & everyone loved it. The staff very friendly & helpful, the curry was as tasty as the first time, the "sharing" board packed with pleasant tasty nibbles & the chocolate dessert simply divine.. Many thanks, we'll be seeing you again shortly.. Tip.. Book a table to be sure if wanting to dine, Oh & try the curry..

Absolutely a gem in Morecombe, great staff, food to die for and great wine. A place to stop by even if you just want a nice cold beer.

We are so pleased that Shackleton's opened in Bare. 20 minutes walk from home (a bit longer to stagger back!!). Small but perfectly formed in our opinion! Such a chilled, laid back atmosphere created by the owners, I believe there are four owners but the half a dozen times we have been in there we've been welcomed by Lizzie and her partner (and chef), Chris. We've had the opportunity to get to know them a little and their welcome personalities really make the place a little special for us! So let's talk food..... a small menu but in my opinion enough choice (you can sometimes be faced with too much!) and just a bit different! Mainly comprising small plates/tapas style and amazing deli boards!! Special mention though to the Staff Curry (chicken or veggie option)...I can honestly say, it is the best curry I have ever had! Well done Chris! So thanks everyone for a great venue that we hope goes from strength to strength for you all!

We have been in a few times for the lovely beer, Brooklyn defender amazing brew. We went in for Friday night curry which was very good and tasty and an amazing desert.

I heard that they serve Mahou beer here so popped in for a beer today. I had more beers . I was surprised by the knowledgeable Spanish influence. If you like white wine then Albarinho is the best in Spain. Equally Ribera del Duero is the best red.....the Spanish themselves only discovered it around 10 years ago. Here they have both wines which surprised me greatly. Not many restaurants in London carry either wine....let alone both. Mahou has always been the best beer in Spain. I have not eaten here yet but everything is super clean and the platters which I saw come out of the kitchen looked great. We will eat here soon with a nice bottle of Duero The staff are very friendly. I wish them well. I will be back for more Mahou.

Called in for a cheeky mid evening drink and stayed for 3. Sat outside on a lovely evening looking down the crescent and across the bay. Food menu looks interesting, we'll be back to give it a try. We went back for food, and wine. Fantastic ultimate platter went down rather well. Not forgetting the white Rioca. Update #2 to try the curry 👍

What a find, we were staying nearby and happened to walk by and decided to stop for a drink, this is a lovely little place with a good choice of drinks and the food looks good too, very friendly service, made us feel very welcome and remembered us when we returned, my only regret is that I wish I could move it to the East Midlands as I would love this to be my local 😊
