Like stepping back in time - in a beautiful way! We've passed this tea room several times after visiting Kirkby Stephen but today we decided to visit. It looks quite 'quirky' on the outside and we had no idea what we would find as we went in! As you enter the shop it reminds me of the village shops of the early 60s. No frills but rammed full of the stuff you need! The cafe is through the shop and that's where you step back into the 40/50s. Stone floor, dressers, mismatched floral crockery and the music!! (Before my time but very All Creatures Great and Small!) We only called for coffee and cake today although hot meals are available. The coffee was good as was the cake - and a proper sized portion. In fact my coffee cake was the best I've had in a long time! Beautifully moist and the right amount of cream! You could sell that recipe!!👍🏻 Locals were using it - always a good sign. The staff were lovely. (Well behaved) dogs were in. Small parking bay at the front but I think there was a small community carpark at the back. 5 star food hygiene (2024). Just under £16 for two coffees and two cakes (and some gorgeous mint crisps came with the bill!). What's not to love! Yes I would recommend it - providing you're not expecting The Ritz Yes I would visit again.

The weather was awful but had a lovely experience in this 😍 little tea room. Numerous cups of tea and delicious lemon cake, my husband had a ham and cheese toastie and he said this was devine, would definitely visit again, very nice owners also

The quaintest tea shop I've ever been too. Proper tea in fine china. Fancy full breakfast too. 5* just for the experience.

Was let down at a tea room near Selside so chose this beautiful place. I had a full breakfast and my wife chose the shepherds pie. All home made with local produce. Lovely pot of tea for two also. A taste to everything on our plates. Wonderful atmosphere inside. See you again soon.

We were staying locally at New House Farm and decided to try Cowan Bridge Tearoom, and I'm glad that we did. We went through the shop into the tea room and was greeted straight away with a warm welcome and seated, we were attended to after a couple of minutes We ordered full English breakfast and tea for two. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the food was of a high quality and cooked to order and very tasty. The tearoom has a quirky vibe going on with the crockery. Very clean, very friendly and highly recommended

Loved everything about our visit to this little gem. The staff were super friendly, the venue was clean, quirky and nostalgic. I’ve saved the best for last, the food was fresh, really tasty and amazing value for money. I highly recommend a visit.

It is a local shop and a cafe with a good menu variety. The interior gives a cozy cottage feel and most of the items within are for sale including novel and locally produced

What a lovely find. Stopped for a quick bite and had a lovely coronation chicken sandwich and a pot of tea. The tea room is a "proper" tea room. Quaint and cosy. The people are very welcoming and you feel right at home. Places like this go the extra mile and deserve support. I'll be back when in the area, for sure.

Wow! Took my breath away, what an amazing place. Food, presentation and ambience was everything and more if that’s possible.

Sometimes you stop for a brew and find a great little place you never knew existed. Warm welcome when we arrived, lovely service and a quirky little tea room. As a proud connoisseur of English tea, I can confidently give this place a 10/10. It feels like getting a proper brew in your Gran’s house. Served in a pot, with cosy, and china tea cups. Proper sugar cubes and milk in a jug. Quintessential in every way. Food is decent and came quickly. They also have plenty of shop items and gifts etc. Parking outside. This will definitely be a regular stop on my way to the Lakes.

I love these little rooms, here you go through a kiosk in the back room to two small rooms where you can eat tea and English pastries. I was happy to use this. Very fair prices, great atmosphere. Incredibly great, for me England starts with scones, of course

Nice little tea room playing some nostalgic music from the early years of the 30s 40s 50s . Lovely atmosphere & superb service. Didn't have any food, just a lovely pot of tea.

Stopped on route for lunch as spotted the good reviews on here. We were disappointed. Bland soup, very small portions of chips and very over priced drinks (£2.95 a can and £2.50 for a glass of squash). Could be so much better if quality bread and other ingredients used.

Passed the tea rooms many times but gone in. We decided to go in and what a revelation. Fantastic little tea room, wonderful atmosphere, great staff and lovely cakes. Our go to stop in the future for cake!

Stopped on our journey as we were dying for a cup of tea. Young couple owners were friendly and welcoming. Cakes looked lovely but we weren't hungry.

First time visit, service, food and atmosphere First class, will definitely use again when in the area, would recommend a stop here.

This business serves as a local shop and newsagent, a sandwich-and-a-drink outlet, and as a good value slap-up meal venue. This is all delivered with a cheery smile and the unwavering attention that a small, independent business brings to meeting your every need. Cuddly toy? No problem. We have some here. I have been back for take away and sit down meals.

Stopped at lunch time for sandwiches and cake. We were not disappointed. Made welcome and served by friendly owner. Treated to freshly made meals. That good an experience we called again on our return three days later. If you are looking for a cosy, quaint place to stop this is a good choice.

Our favourite breakfast stop en route to Scotland. A little bit odd but just the spot for a full English and a pot of tea on the road before you hit the motorway.

Lovely little oldy world village tea room. We had a full English breakfast and it was beautiful. You could tell everything was fresh and locally sourced. We also bought a jar of passionfruit curd and a jar of orange curd to take home with us. Staff are really friendly too. I would definitely recommend this place. If we are ever travelling this way again we will definitely eat here again x

We ordered cheese (and onion) toasties and a pot of tea for 3. The toastie didn’t come with onion - we asked if this could be added. We were told this would be an extra charge! When they came - the toastie did not appear to have any cheese inside it at all ! It tasted only of the onion. The tea was very weak - it was a large pot for 3 - with only 2 tea bags in it! I had to ask for another one. It was over priced and not value for money at all! Keep driving by is my advice!

Quirky homely little cafe with good selection of cakes, and decent menu mainly centred around giant Yorkshire puddings with various fillings, great idea! Part of the village shop which sells everything!!! Had the scone jam & authentic clotted cream, with giant pot of tea. Worth a stop off, will try the Veggie filled Yorkshire pud next time.

After trying 3 places in Kirkby Lonsdale for a simple egg mayo sandwich which is apparently far too much to ask from a few places in Kirby Lonsdale on a lunchtime, I drove back out absolutely fed up and day ruined after driving for 2 hours. Saw this went in and saw the lovely lady had what I was after. She also said if she didn’t have it she would have made it and that says everything about her effort and how decent and kind she is. Due to certain conditions I don’t just eat anything and neither should anyone have to explain that anymore. She was the kindest, nicest and the food was unbelievably fresh, a decent size tea cake and a decent price with a proper filling. I will always go here now and I will not bother with anywhere in Kirby Lonsdale especially Lunesdale Loony Bakery where everything is far too much effort! Thank you so much for making my day a much better one.

I have travelled through Cowan Bridge numerous times in the past xxx(!) years on the A65, a major route to the Lake District from W Yorks etc, a road just not fir for purpose in the 21st C. That aside, I haven't actually stopped off in the Shop/PO/Tea Room at CB before, travelling (as I suspect most do) to Kirkby Lonsdale, a few miles further on and resplendent in it's accommodation for tourists. If you are reading this and intend to go directly to KL - stop here at the Cowan Bridge Tea Room instead for a special experience! Yes, the coffee and cakes will most likely be similar to other nearby establishments, but I doubt that many will have the same atmosphere. The Shop etc. is crammed packed with groceries, wines, knick-knacks, local interest publications, chutneys/pickles/jams/marmalades etc.etc. within a space best described as "Tardis-Sized!" I could write more, but just go there for the experience!

A fabulous old fashioned vintage tea room - just perfect. Had a sandwich and a cream tea. Served by friendliest owner. They also sell toys, sweets, jams, tea and coffee. A real find and somewhere to call in and don’t drive by on A65. Plenty of parking at the back. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

We just nipped in on the off chance. The tea rooms are so charming. Tea was served with China tea sets and beautiful spoons. We only had jacket potatoes but when the gentleman said they were served with salad he meant salad (not shrivelled up...

Thought we would stop here on our way up to the Lakes due to all the good reviews. Big mistake! We had passed Country Harvest and looked forward to having lunch at Cowan Bridge. My wife is disabled and has difficulty in walking, we trudged...

We both had a wonderful fresh salad, one Roast ham, one fresh prawn mayo. They were served beautifully and the serving staff were very polite, friendly and attentive. Top this with a hot cup of tea served with my own teapot and Bone China teacup...

When you walk into the shop at Cowan Bridge a little bell above the door announces your arrival, and takes you back to.your childhood. The shop is well stocked from floor to ceiling, and every nook and cranny is bursting with traditional fare and goodies....

This is a delightful tea room. A nice big pot of tea with a lovely teacosy on it (handmade and available to buy in the shop) and china tea cups and saucers. First time had toasted teacake which was hot and the butter not cold...

Beautiful tea rooms! Only small but it's cute and cosy. The service was amazing, the 2 men who served us were lovely. 4 of us had afternoon tea, I had a scone and a cuppa and my friend had a Cornish pasty chips and gravy which she enjoyed. I definitely recommend this lush little tea rooms.

We have never been to such a charming and twee tea room before. The attention to the tiniest detail from the lacey table cloths to the bone china tea service added to its charm. The cream tea was delicious and served promptly, however it was the displays of jams and cakes combined with the enchanting décor that made this visit so memorable.

A real gem of a tea room - only small but great service and very reasonable prices. The meals I saw being served looked very tasty and good sized portions - nothing left when fellow visitors finished. Tea was excellent and a very good sized teapot for 2. I had toast which was nicely brown on both sides - something of a rarety nowadays. Highly recommend.

Lovely little tea rooms excellent service. They had stopped the hot food menu when we arrived, but then decided they would cook some chips for us. Couldn't ask for a better service and an attitude to please the customer.

The café is very quaint and small. However it is very well appointed in its layout. The staff are very friendly, polite and professional. The food is excellent and very tasty. It is certainly well worth a visit.

Called in here to try the breakfast on a cold Saturday morning. We have been before and tried the scones and butter which were lovely. Anyway the breakfast was divine all ingredients cooked to perfection. Plates hot and everything tasted delicious. The couple who run this tea room are really lovely. The man who serves is always polite and very friendly and very smartly dressed. The food which I presume is cooked by the lady well I can’t say more than I have the food was delicious and very well cooked. Looking forward to better weather then we can call in during a walk for more delicious food and drink.

We were en route from Scotland to Manchester, and stopped at this charming tea room for lunch. The decor and crockery were 1940s, as was the background music. We had broccoli and Stilton soup, and a turkey & Brie sandwich, which were delicious. A welcome change from motorway services fodder. Would definitely recommend!

An old fashioned tea room -cluttered and very cramped - but if you are able bodied and accessibility is not a problem - you will find a warm welcome awaits - coffee is good. Food not too bad . Good value for money

Came not knowing what to expect but wow!!! Beautiful tea room and loved the feel and warmth of the place. Great honest service, even if my daughter changed her mind on her choice of food. Missed the breakfast menu by 30mins but a great reason to revisit very very soon. So polite xxx

This place was a super find for breakfast. So old fashioned and quirky that it makes it positively cool! The owners were so friendly and we enjoyed a lovely home cooked breakfast.

Despite being hidden away in the shop at Cowan Bridge, the owners offer a delicious range of snacks & homemade cakes.

This is a must for visitors. The shop is like an Aladdin's cave, stocking everything you could would want..and more. The Tearoom was super with lots of interesting artifacts. The food was out of this world. The owners could give all so called modern Cafe/ Tearooms a lesson in customer service & politeness. Everyone should go there, but leave room for my return. Dogs are WELCOME !

Had American friends staying with us and showing them the area and spotted 'Tea Rooms'. What a Great Find. We had afternoon tea consisting of a pot of tea and a piece of home made cake. A big pot of tea plus additional hot water and a large piece of cake. Absolutely delicious. To get to the tea rooms you pass through the village shop. We were served by a very friendly and helpful gentleman. If travelling on the A65 from Skipton to Kendal, keep an eye open for this gem of a tea room.

We stopped here Sunday after l pm. Very cheerful welcome from the gentleman . Value for money , fresh salad with a cheese toastie , lemon cake for after . Very good fragrant hot coffee . Thankyou .💥
