First reaction was to how dirty the carriages were. Our table hadn't been wiped over and was dirty from the previous passengers. The flooring erea was also covered in bits of food and rubbish. I couldn't put my jacket above my seat because the shelf was covered in dust. The train ride itself was nice and the stations are lovely. The steam engines are certainly impressive. The food was hit and miss for me. Very nice rice and spring roll but my chicken skewer was overdone and very hard and dry. Overall was it worth £120 for 2 people i have to say no.

The Severn Valley Railway runs from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth and there are various stations on the route. Many of the stations along the route have places where you can get something to eat. There is a very good station cafe at Kidderminster station which is quite large. Here you can get sandwiches, crisps and other snacks. There are plenty of places to sit and have a sit down if you don't want to sit on the concourse or the platform. I bought a hot drink and a snack when I arrived and the staff who served me were friendly and very prompt in dealing with my request. As I travelled up the line I stopped off at a couple of other stations and eventually reached the end of the line at the lovely little station of Bridgnorth. The station here has a cafe as well as a bar and a well stocked gift shop. After spending a few hours travelling I was a bit peckish. After all it is thirsty work sitting in a train carriage (!) I decided to get something to eat at the station cafe in Bridgnorth and there was a bit of a queue so I decided to have a wander around the station. I came back when the rush had died down and got a sandwich and some crisps. All the food I had was preprepared and tasty. Whilst I was on the train people with me got beers and soft drinks from the buffet car and they were very happy with their purchases.

Recently called at the SEVERN VALLEY STATION PUB. It was very dark on the approach being 8.30 at night . Had a very nice pint and chat . Did not realise the car park has to be paid this late at night even though car park almost empty, wonder why?, Now had £ 100 quid demand , £ 60 if paid quickly. For a company that needs the public support they obviously could not care about extortionate parking charges. I for one will not be giving my support in future. disgraceful

We visited for the autumn steam gala. The whole experience was a shambles. Trains weren't running to timetable and there was only one announced all day. The fly past never happened and again no announcements on this. We attempted to get a coffee in the station cafe. The experience was dreadful. One guy in the till seemed to find it very difficult to deal with coffee selection. The guy making the coffee also seemed to have never made a coffee in his life. I ordered a latte but got a small espresso with about 6 spoons of instant and a tiny dribble of hot water upon asking for more I got another dribble and a confused person. We tried topping it up with milk and sugar but I can honestly say it was the worst coffee I've ever had. The food here is also over priced and very poor. Best bring a flask and your own spam sandwiches!

Being a heritage railway we observed the business model of catering employed at Kidderminster and Highley. Both need serious revamp to cater for mass traffic during gala days. Long queues and wait for hot meals slows turnover. Suggest physically separating the tills from the serving counter, the coffee having a dedicated barista and hot food orders conveyed to the kitchens electronically instead of a server walking off to place orders. Staff appear to rush around at both sites. We queued at Highley for so long we only had time to view half the exhibits then rush off to catch next train.

We had a lovely day. The staff were very helpful, courteous and kind. It brought back memories and was very nostalgic. The stations all look beautiful and the standards was very high. We went to Bewdley and spent an hour there then got back on the train and went back to Highley where we spent 4 hours. There is plenty to read and see at the Engine House although the catering was limited due to COVID. You could get off at Arley and walk to Highley and still have plenty of time at Highley.

fantastic day out with the grandchildren to celebrate my birthday. Started our trip in Kidderminster but hadn’t realised that SVR had a dedicated car park - not well explained in the online documents so we parked away from the railway. had a booked compartment for the whole day, I liked the inclusion of a rubbish bag and hand sanitiser provided and an envelope for charity donation. Stopped off at The Engine House and the grandchildren enjoyed the beach and Punch and Judy Show although they were disappointed not to see Gordon from the Thomas the Tank Engine books as it is a different Gordon. Pity there is not more time to explore Bridgnorth - only had time for a cuppa before getting back on the train for the journey back. All in all a good day and worth the money.

Wonderful day out, even my non-train-fan husband enjoyed it! We booked the 11am explorer train from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth with a 3 hour stop at Highley. We enjoyed afternoon tea at the Engine Shed, there was more than enough for the 3 of us (2 adults and 9 year old son) to eat and the staff made plainer sandwiches for our son which was thoughtful of them. The Engine Shed has an interesting exhibition of steam trains and the history of SVR, I could have spent more time there taking it all in. There’s also a good play area for children. We had a family compartment on the train which was comfortable.

We had an outstanding day out on the SVR. Two adults, our 2 children and our dog. Boarded in Bridgnorth and had stopovers in Bewdley and Kidderminster before heading back to Bridgnorth. Large car park in Bridgnorth, easy to find and costs £4 per day. All stations and trains impeccably clean and staff extremely helpful. We booked a private compartment for our group which is yours for the day to hop on snd hop off all day (the trains run down the line twice in both directions against a fixed timetable). Would recommend the Courtyard in Bewdley for lunch; we had an outside table on the Riverside. Great day that most will enjoy. Thank you so much!

A lovely trip in a private compartment on a steam train. Felt very safe, as you book a compartment for your party, and have the number on your wristband. It means you don’t have to wear a mask inside, and can just enjoy your journey. It’s about an hour and a half each way with around 3 hours in Bridgenorth, time for a pub lunch and wander round before the trip back in the same compartment. It gives you a real sense of normality and fun, lovely scenery and full day out. Parking is easy, you can purchase a drink and snacks at each end to take with you. Lots of photo opportunities. A great day out.

This was our second trip on the Santa Special and it absolutely matched our expectations. This year the (Covid friendly) experience included private compartments in 1950s carriages and a short Christmas show. The station was beautifully decorated and felt magical. Hot drinks and gingerbread or mince pies were served on arrival to take onto the train. Staff were amazing and friendly. The show was sweet and the children seemed to love it. On our return to the train a good quality present from Santa was waiting for our child. All in all a wonderful experience again. It isn’t cheap but all in all we felt it was worth the expense. What a great day 4 of us had on the Severn Vally Railway. The organization by all the team was brilliant. Safety measures were in place and everyone was very helpful and friendly. We had a compartment which meant we were able to relax and enjoy the ride and leave things on the train if required at stops as it belonged to us for the whole day. We had afternoon tea in the Engine House; it was delicious with a great selection of cakes and scones. Sadly, we felt we didn't have much time for our afternoon tea as the train only stopped for an hour. This also meant we weren't able to enjoy looking at all the engines in the museum. On Sunday last I was given a ticket to ride on the famous Tornado steam train. Its departure was scheduled for 10.30 am but an hour beforehand it was amazing to see so many people parking their cars and heading for the booking office to purchase their ticket. About 10 minutes before departure the Tornado came puffing onto the platform and folk quickly boarded. It was warm, and a welcoming cup of coffee was soon being served. At Highley a number of people disembarked and headed for the Engine Shed where a Christmas Fair was being held and the Bridgnorth Male Voice Choir were going to be singing at various intervals during the day. They were a great crowd and really lifted the rafters. One of the engines in the shed had been converted into sleeping quarters for King George Vl and the Queen and it was interesting to see how the accommodation had been divided up.I caught the 4.10 pm train home from Highley but it was great to enter the waiting room and see a roaring fire, a large mahogany table with a plant in the middle and old fashioned gas mantles. We were a party of 9 that chose this venue to get our breakfast on day one of our trip to this heritage line. Unfortuneately it seemed that staffing in the refreshment room is kept to an absolute minimum and thus the one poor girl taking the orders had her work cut out for her as a large queue started forming. No help was forthcoming so it took ages to have our appetites quenched and we got the food, which was very pleasant, at all different times so the experience was not great. When I say they offer table service this is only for delivery of the food once cooked.

We went to SVR on Feb 16th to ride the train to Hampton Loade. It was a naturally busy day due to it being the first 'run out'. With this in mind we went straight to the overflow carpark. All looked to have changed - we were informed that it would be £4 to park on the NEW carpark, the shock then set in - the lovely meadow at the top of the hill behind SVR had been completely obliterated, laid to a hardstand carpark. I cannot understand why a Heritage Railway, steeped in tradition would take this drastic, ugly measure. Its not the cost of parking that bothers me, indeed, I would have been happy to pay £4 to park in the 'meadow', but no, its been replaced with a monstrosity, taking away natural beauty and replaced with suburbia. Working in the construction industry I know that an alternative surfacing could have been used (Grasscrete springs to mind) that way you could have retained the meadow, but still have safe, accessible parking. I'm just waiting for the barriers and ticket machines to appear - not to mention the stunt bikes and skate boarders who will eventually appear on a clear open, flat space! The charm of Bridgnorth station is slowly eroding away.

Started off with pate, which was a little gelatinous, but tasted nice. My main course of chicken, though; was dry and over cooked; and served with soggy over cooked tasteless veg. Worse though was the accompanying gravy, which drowned out any other flavour on the plate, and obviously was a made up tinned Demi-glacé. My pudding of Millionaires Cheesecake looked lovely, but again tasteless. We finished with coffee, which again wasn’t great. It was such a shame because, it’s a great venue, with front of train staff who are obviously very keen to please, but even allowing for the limited kitchen facilities, the food should of been cooked to a much higher standard

We were given a lovely gift of a Sunday Lunch on the Ventura steam train run by volunteers. The ticket cost over £100 for the 2 of us. We really enjoyed the experience but the food was terrible and at around £35 each which is the sort of price you would pay for a meal in a really good resturant for Sunday lunch just not good enough. I wrote to them and finally recieved a very strong and forceful letter from the lady who had cooked the meal. We did recieve 2 tickets to go on the train anytime but not including any food. I fully accept that the train is manned by voluteers who I don't want to bash, however, I think if your offering a service to make money for the Severn Valley Ltd you really have to give people the sort of food they pay for. It's not fair to expect to get away with giving people food which is just not up to it. We enjoyed the experience but would never go again unless they gave you the quality food which you pay for. They are obviously more interested in making a big profit for the railway, which I don't mind after they have given the customers a fair deal. Don't bother writing I doubt you will get a reply. I did because I made a fuss.

Mostly retired they love to chat especially if you give them praise for stations and gardens. A time past that we have sadly lost to efficiency and modernisation. Lovely preserved locomotives haul historic carriages throughout the year but the Gala days are the best with a constant movement of locomotives and stock. Always a great experience to see engines in steam pulling trains but I am probably biased - never had a day at a steam railway that wasn't enjoyable. This is one of the best with 15 miles of track and lovely stations up the line.

The journey from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster is through some truly lovely countryside and watching the animals in the safari park is a great experience. The train is slow and steamy but the carriages are comfortable and everyone is very friendly. There is a buffet on the train. At Kidderminster the station is dressed as in the early 1900s and there is both a café in the museum and a dining room which, while very slow in terms of service and with mundane food, nevertheless remains evocative of the past. Overall, a really good experience at a reasonable price

Severn Valley Railway is excellent value for money. Because you can break your journey at several varied places along the track you can tailor your trip to suit your individual taste. You would need more than one day to explore it fully. We went midweek in term time. It was busy but not crowded which made the whole experience very enjoyable. I have not visited this part of the country before but the scenery you see from the train is stunning. It is worth the trip for this alone even if you never get off the train.

Popped to visit the railway as it was all set back to the 1940's. Didn't ride the steam train but wandered around the station and there were lots of people dressed up to match the era and some stalls set up. Nice place to visit before popping into Bewdley. Really clean and well presented and time and effort into how it looks makes the world of difference. Waved to the people on the steam train and would consider a trip on another visit.

I recently had a trip on the SVR starting at Bridgnorth; loved the old station platforms and the steam engines along with some lovely old carriages that really took me back to my youth. Lots of history and events taking place trying to raise funds to build up the experience; only two downsides, first the scenery is not a patch on the North York Moors & second the buffet at Bridgnorth served up scalding hot liquid in place of tea and its sausage rolls while full tasted mostly of salt. So upholding the old BR standards; still the sarnies weren't curling up at the ends!

I went to the station buffet( The Severn Valley Suite) on Wednesday 24th May and asked for a cup of Coffee. I noticed the server pick up a cardboard cup. I asked him for a china one and was told that his manager had told him to use up the cardboard ones. Barely able to believe the reply I said I was the customer and I wanted a China mug. I was told in no uncertain terms I could not have one as the manager had told the server that he must use the cardboard cups.It beggars belief that one has to argue about what type of cup/mug one wants when one is spending money. So the coffee being poured into the wrong cup I walked away.

Been visiting the railway for the last 20 years - seen the whole enterprise develop tremendously over the years. For those of us of a certain age a day spent there provides plenty of nostalgia. The pubs at Bridgnorth and Kidderminster take you right back to the good old days. Good selection of real ales and a good varied menu. Can thoroughly recommend it as a great day out.

Called here just for a coffee at the end of a walk. Although the coffee is served from a machine that looks more like a jukebox it was good and there was a jug of fresh milk for you to add yourself, a refreshing change from the usual UHT rubbish. Very enjoyable coffee drank on the platform whilst waiting for the train. Recommended and will be returning

We took our granddaughter to the Kidderminster end of the Severn Valley Railway for an end of school holiday treat. The staff were friendly and informative and answered a lot of her questions really well. We had an all day rover ticket and stopped at several stations along the way. We particularly enjoyed stopping at the engine shed where we were able to sort mail on the Royal Mail carriage which opened up a whole past world to someone born into the totally digital age. We had lunch on the balcony overlooking the line and the whole day was rounded off by a great trip along the whole length of the line from Bridgnorth back to Kidderminster.

My colleague and I always try to pop into the SVR when possible and decided to stop at Kidderminster on our way from Solihull to Malvern and have a breakfast snack in the Valley Suite and found it overpriced. Pot of tea £1.79(okay), Hot Chocolate (£2.79..How Much !), Toasted Bacon Sandwich (£2.99 plus £0.89 for an egg !), Sausage and Bacon Sandwich ( £2.99 plus £0.89 for a single tinned plum tomato !). As much as we are Heritage Railway supporters and we can when possible donate monies we don't like to be overcharged for things that we like to purchase ( I am sure ordinary visitors will not be impressed)

We had a gift from our son to travel the Kidderminster to Highly steam railway. We live locally but had never been on the Severn Railway. The trip was nostalgic as i used the railway in Birmingham in the 1950`s. The severn Valley coaches were the same ; restored and maintained by the mainly volunteers The friendly staff in traditional uniforms served a roast beef and yorkshire pudding meal with a bottle of wine. Journeying at a pace which gave time to view the tracks and countryside including, as luck would have it , elephants as we passed close to the West Midland Safari Park. A stroll at stop offs gave time for the camera to come out, lots of other engines along with splendid views of the river Severn and countryside, Not the Orient Express but trip not to be missed, taking you back through the past . This line should be increased.

I wrote this email to Severn valley but no responseMy husband, two children and parents visited your attraction today and were very disappointed. My parents arrived to get the 11.45 train only to be told it had run out of fuel and wasn't running. They were told to wait on the train for the next steam train which arrived soon after, they were ushered onto the steam train but then told to get back onto the diesel train as it was ready to go and had been refuelled. At this point they were over 20 minutes later than scheduled to head to Highley. The train was not heated at all so our pensioner parents spent the journey absolutely freezing. On arrival at Highley, we had lunch in the engine house cafe which was very poor. After a wander around the engine house museum, we headed back to the train station for the 2.49 train which arrived around 3.15. Waiting in freezing temperatures with a 2 year old and 3 month old baby was very inconvenient. Once the train arrived, we asked the conductor where to go with the pram and he ignored us so we followed him to the correct door as he was dragging someone else's buggy. When we reached the door, a Severn valley representative, picked up the side of our pram roughly to which myself and another Severn valley representative had to shout to stop him as my 3 month old was still in it. He carried on anyway and I was almost dragged to keep the pram level to stop my son tipping forward. I was disgusted by this as he had been unbuckled to take him out before boarding the train meaning he could've fallen out of the pram. All in all, we had a very disappointing visit. We don't feel that for around £75 we had a worthwhile experience. For the amount you charge we would expect the trains to be on time and some heating within the trains when you have pensioners and small children traveling with you. We will not be recommending this to friends and family.

We took our 3 year old daughter on the Steam Santa experience- it was amazing and she loved the whole thing. We got there early to allow plenty of time; which was definitely a good move as we had to park down the hill in the Pay & Display near the Dunelm and ALDI and then walk back up the hill. Plenty going on at the actual station but food is limited in the restaurant (loosely use that term). We got to travel in one of the compartments so it was like something from Harry Potter which just added to the magic (no pun intended). It was a little foggy when we were there which again wasn't a problem as you could see all the lights and it meant it felt like we were traveling to a far off land to find Santa. The volunteers were brilliant and getting on and off trains or waiting either end to meet the jolly man himself was well managed.Deffo do it again in 2017

As will become clear this isn't my first visit to this attraction. Took a twixmas day trip with our pooch. Got tickets (including £3 dog ticket) at Kidder and waited for the next train which was earmarked as diesel hauled but was actually a 1st generation DMU. Full marks to the DMU restoration team; really comfy ride and great views through the picture windows. Stayed on up to Bridgnorth though we were delayed at Hampton Loade waiting for a crossing train so had to rush over the footbridge to call catch the next train down. Stopped at Highley to visit the engine house, photograph a few non stopping trains and warm up with a cup of tea round the roaring fire in the waiting room. Overall most staff were great with one guard really making a fuss of our very quiet and well mannered little patterdale terrier but the welcome at the engine house was slightly cold to him with strict instructions not to take the dog upstairs where the cafe is (I read about all the dog policies online before coming - not in the cafes, first class or dining cars and must be on a lead and on the floor not on the seats). As my title says they seem to be neglecting the appearence of things at the moment as all carriages were faded and filthy externally and very worn and shabby internally and every station had areas of peeling paint and rotten wood especially on their name signs. Very glad we've been and the flat rate £3 token to exit parking system at Kidderminster is simple and effective and an improvement on pay and display as it is self enforcing meaning they don't lose vital revenue and you don't have to go back and fore the machine and car especially if you are rushing for a train. A really enjoyable winters day overall and we will definitely be back.

Very disappointed in this trip today. Took the 2.30 train from Kidderminster with my husband and 10 year old daughter. Very excited especially to see santa on Christmas Eve. We boarded the train and sat in the most dirtiest carriage. Crisp baskets and food on the floor. But we saw through that and carried on with our journey. Once we arrived at Arley we made our way excitedly to the santa carriage. Once in we were there we were greeted warmly by the elves and listened to the band playing. We went in to see the man himself, my daughter beaming from ear to ear. Only to be greater by "hello what's your name? would you like a teddy? There you go! I'm very busy today! Then a period of long silence. I was expecting the ususal "habe ypu been good, what do you want for chriatmas ect... Then we realised he was ushering us away after only being there for a minute. Noy once did he ask what my daughter wanted for Christmas, not once did he show any interest in her or myself or husband. We had to initiate a conversation just to make this experience one to remember as it's possible the last year she believes. We were and still are devastated that this has to be the worst experience of a santa visit in 16 years of taking my eldest too. We then tried to pick up the magic by taking in the atmosphere at Arley.... But there was non, nothing. We waited for the return train and returned to Kidderminster totally upset. £52 for a teddy bear. Feel really robbed. I will be officially complaining and sending the video in to head office. Will not be recommending this to anyone. Please don't waste your money.

The SVR is a wonderful experience for railway fans BUT disabled parking is completely unacceptable in this day and age. It is particularly poor during special events when the already limited spaces are requisitioned without any alternative being provided. Planning a trip thus becomes stressful and you may be disappointed and have to abandon your plans. Be warned. Shame.

Good pub with a decent range of drinks. For real ale drinkers there is Bathams Best and a usually something from Wye Valley - typically HPA. Plenty of lager and Modri. Also a pool table. Good for watching football, with several TV screens, and for a pre or post match drink. It's under the main stand of Harriers FC and is the only pub I know which has a door with a sign "players and coaching staff only".
