Serendib Sri Lankan & Italian Restaurant in Derbyshire Dales

Went for our Anniversary, the food was cooked to order so not the quickest but well worth waiting for it was delicious. The staff are excellent and very attentive they even gave us a Anniversary card and a cake with a candle on and all the staff came out to wish us well. We were staying near by just for a couple of days and was so glad we decided to eat here. If we lived closer we would be going there a lot more. Thank you to everybody at Serendip for making our Anniversary a day to remember and we wish you well for the future

This is a fantastic Sri Lankan restaurant serving authentic Sri Lankan dishes in Peak District. Born in Sri Lanka, I know an authentic dish when I taste one! The pepper pork, casava, koththu and everything we ate was simply awesome!!! The staff was super-efficient and very friendly - tried to cater to everything we wanted including kids!! Can’t wait to go again and highly recommend!!

We went for a family meal at the Serendib which we were really looking forward to. We’d seen great reviews so thought we’d try it out. Unfortunately it was one of the worst meals we’ve had in a long time. We know everywhere can have an off day but it was one issue after the other. We’d booked in advance, and although they were expecting us they didn’t have a table ready to seat 5 people even though there was no one else in the restaurant. They got the 1st drink order wrong, and took ages to bring my partner the drink he’d ordered, we had to ask twice for it. The draft lager (they said was Cobra) didn’t taste great, so when ordering a 2nd drink I asked what bottled beer they have (as they list this on their menu). The waitress didn’t know, went to check and then told us that they didn’t have any bottled beers as their fridge was broken. They took a while to take our food order as they were more interested in trying to get a TV in the restaurant to work than take our order. When they eventually took the food order, they came back to the table on 2 separate occasions advising us that they didn’t have the starters we’d ordered. The starters took 50 minutes to arrive, which we could potentially understand in a busy restaurant, but there was no one else there. The prawn starter was rubbery and tasteless. After a short while the main meals arrived. They bought out my curry (but not the rice) and then slowly brought each meal out one by one. The rice to go with my curry was bought out last, and by that time the curry was nearly cold. The lamb curry was bland, as was the chicken curry. The only redeeming aspect was that the waitress who served us was friendly and helpful. I was shocked how bad our experience was as all the reviews we’ve seen give great ratings. I definitely wouldn’t visit again and would advise anyone against going.

Absolutely gorgeous fresh cooked food beautifully presented attentive friendly staff. Will definitely be going here again great value for money added bonus is they do Italian as well so if you have kids they will probably order the Italian. This restaurant really is a hidden little gem.

The restaurant has just recently opened so went to tray it out on 01 July 2021. My sort of of menu that isn't to complcated or complex but with a fantastic variety of starter mains and desserts. The dishes were plentiful really tasty as was the rice and ROTI bread and all made fresh to order. Service was excellent and if you like Asian type food give it a go you will like. Group of 3 couples had the most fantastic Sri Lankan dining experience. Food was cooked fresh and the flavours exploded in your mouth. Not spicy at all as the chef tailored the meals to mild to suit our palettes! The staff really valued our custom and that was felt throughout the evening. One of the best restaurants we have been to for flavour. A very authentic experience (and spice tailored to be mild at our request). Will visit again. We feel we have been on holiday to Sri Lanka!

SERENDIB SRILANKAN AND ITALIAN RESTAURANT IN MATLOCK what a lovely place to visit if you’re a food lover that’s the place to go. This is my first time and what a lovely staff with a warm welcome and made us feel so homely and the food was mouth watering and the customer service was first class. I will definitely go again with my family and friends and we were so lucky to find this place in Derbyshire as I never thought we will find a place for Specialy for our traditional food. I’m sure all foreigners love SriLankan food over ther as every dish was so delicious. All the best SERENDIB and we wish you success.

Good food and service. Visited with my family a couple of weeks ago and was delighted with the interesting food combinations that come from this unique restaurant

It was great to be able to eat in again at last. Sri Lankan food with its electic combination of Indian and Malay influences contrasted with the Italian dishes made for a very unique and  mouthwatering combination of tastes. There was something for everyone. The  staff were very friendly and attentive and the chef came out and welcomed us. The prices were very reasonable especially given all  the fresh ingredients including the herbs and spices. Will definitely be back next time we're in this part of the country.

The service was excellent, the staff were warm and welcoming and the food arrived promptly and was to a high standard. I have previously tried Sri Lankan cuisine and can verify that this was definitely authentic. I would highly recommend the Koththu and am looking forward to my next visit.

This place is fantastic!! We travelled in Sri Lanka for 3 months so we know good Sri Lankan food. This place is spot on! Fantastic food, fresh, tasty and authentic, the chef is very talented. They also serve lovely Italian food if you dont like sri Lankan. Waiter was so friendly and professional. Great beer garden for our little one to run around in. This place is a hidden gem, definitely worth a visit!
