Serata Hall in Islington

What an awful place with ignorant staff! I explain why awful and ignorant. It's the second time within a year that I walk into this place. Today, Saturday 13th, I had friends visiting and staying around the corner. The website of Serata says that it is open from 10 am till late. The online menu on their website lists a range of items and gives the prices. I walked into the restaurant on Old Street at 11.35 am on Saturday (remember their website says that they open at 10am!). There were 3 couples outside having coffee and coke. Inside a huge restaurant is empty (bizarre for a Saturday morning in London, but when you realise how bad their service is, you will know why). So a male waitor comes around as I open the door and asks me what I want. "Table for 3 for food, please". The reply is that "we are fully booked" - the restaurant and easy 30+ tables is EMPTY!!! I remark that the restaurant is empty and a female waitor (clearly with a bit more confidence and who thinks she will intimidate me) approaches us as says "people in this country have brunch at 1 or 2pm. If you are here for food, we are fully booked and people will arrive between 1 and 2 pm". Remember that this is 11.35 am and the restaurant is empty. Those 2 members of staff, the gatekeepers at the door seem to be employed to turn customers away. I am a local and I am surprised to hear from this foreign waitress that "people in this country" have brunch at 1pm on a Saturday - funny how a bit of misplaced attitude with customers make you say the wrong things. Restaurants go around moaning continously that customers are not spending money: there you have an EMPTY restaurant, employing stupid people from 10 am to turn away customers because they have bookings 3 hours later. What is the point of opening a restaurant at 10am if you are not going to take customers? Which stupid investors are investing in this awful business and thinking that no customer wants to eat there? Remember that I wrote in my first sentence that it is my second time there. Funny thing is I had exactly the same experience just over a year ago, also on a Saturday. Then I wrote to Sarah Weir who is the founder and MD of the chain and there were millions of apologies and blaming of staff who were untrained.... a year later, nothing has changed, staff are still saying that they are fully booked. Who is taking responsibility? Where is money coming from to pay all the lazy staff? Is Sarah Weir, the founder, so rich that she can pay for all the utilities to keep a restaurant open without any revenue? Wow - maybe the government should pay note and when they go bankrupt, don't say that customers don't want to spend money. They do want to spend but Serata Hall was very strange policies and silly staff.

The weirdest place I’ve ever been to… The staff were friendly, but it was the strangest customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. Firstly, the place was way too loud, so we asked for the music to be turned down and they happily agreed which made things better. I was in a group of 6 and we were here for bottomless brunch (which you have to pay extra for the food btw. I’ve been to lots of bottomless brunches and never had to pay extra for food). £33pp for average drinks that aren’t regularly topped up seems steep… You’re given a 2 hour time slot and we ordered food fairly quickly into our slot. Our food didn’t arrive until the last half an hour, then the waiter came over asking if we could pay the bill… Before we’d finished eating?.. We asked if we could wait until we’d finished and he said sorry I need to take payment now, so we reluctantly agreed. He then brought some doughnuts out, again, while we were still eating and when we asked if they could be brought back when we’d finished. We were told they’d be cold by then… So we just said ok as we didn’t order them. The food was average, half of the group ordered the truffle tagliatelle which was lukewarm and seemingly had no truffle in it. The others had pizza which seemed a better choice. The weirdest part was at the end of the session, our drinks (that we’d pay for) started to get cleared away into big buckets by the staff. We asked if we could keep them and were told sorry there is another group booked in. That’s fine, but at least let us finish our drinks… We asked if there was somewhere else we could go to finish our drinks, and were told the bar area so we moved over there. Then we watched the staff literally clear the whole room asking people to leave ready for the next round of brunches. I’ve never been to a bottomless brunch that was booked out in blocks rather than a steady flow of customers. It felt so rushed and badly organised. We could also see other customers giving the same feedback as us. If you’re after a brunch where they top up your drinks regularly, the food is fast and you don’t feel like you’re constantly being rushed by the staff then give this place a miss… Won’t be returning!

The venue is very pleasant. The beer was certainly quaffable. the food was good. BUT the NOISE was deafening and one of our party was alerted to the loudness of the sound on their watch. We could only just talk to our neighbours. When we asked for the sound to be lowered we were told that this was not possible. The NOISE spoilt a nice place

Had a fabulous time, it was the best place to celebrate my engagement. Jay was a fantastic waiter and attended to all of our needs. Overall 10/10.

We booked in for the brunch from 4pm – 6pm, although when booking it says the brunch is over two hours. It’s not, it’s just the standard two hours. On the table waiting we had Pink Fizz, White Fizz and Rum Punch. The make you own cocktail set, is just a selection of fruit flavoured cordials which you can add to your drinks accordingly. We had to ask for these as they weren’t there waiting for us like the rest of the drinks, but we could’ve easily done without. The aesthetic of this eatery is bright and airy, with wooden features, foliage, and comfortable seating. The DJ played a nice mix of music ranging from Pop, R&B and 80’s. The downside was there wasn’t really anywhere to dance, you just had to jig about in your chair. The food isn’t included in the brunch which wasn’t an issue. The food is a reasonable price and ranges from pasta and pizza, given it’s Italian. The pizza’s are quite big portions, so we only ordered two pizza’s to share between the three of us but they tasted soooo good and I loved how the topping choices aren’t just the conventional options e.g Hawaiian and Pepperoni! For such a big establishment, I’m surprised that they have tiny toilets. The men’s there was only one cubicle and a small urinal. I can’t speak for the female toilets but judging by the ridiculous queue for the ladies after the brunch, I’m guessing there’s were tiny too. Overall, a nice place to come bottomless brunching with decent food. Shames there’s only three drinks with two of them being near enough the exact same.

I was in the area and was looking for a place for a quick coffee break, Serata looked great from the outside and it was not busy. Great visit, loved the atmosphere. The coffee was alright and during the afternoon this seems like a nice place for a stop for coffee or even to grab a glass of wine and chat with a couple of friends.

We had a cocktail masterclass with Tek. He was a great host and bartender. Showing us how to make four classic cocktails, each of which was delicious. We then got to make a couple of our own cocktails which was fun and funny. The experience started with a Prosecco and ended with a gin shot. Our bartender gave us some great tips and kept us laughing. This was a superb experience and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a drink or two. It’s quite a lot of alcohol so maybe don’t book a flash dinner afterwards - it might be a bit hazy. Thanks to Serata Hall and especially Tek.

Serata Hall is a really nice place to work from home away from home. It is a huge space with 3 floors, plenty of seats/tables and charging ports + free wifi. Its great for solo working or working with friends/your team. You can buy the £10 a day bottomless coffee/tea pass if you like, or just pay as you go - I bought a nice iced latte and a sandwich for lunch and thought it was well priced. As for the staff, my experience was nothing like the previous reviews. I was greeted by a friendly face on arrival who explained to me the hot-desking policy and brought water to my table. My barista was equally friendly! Overall it was a really great experience - I can't speak for weekend/evenings but if you're looking for somewhere to work away from the office and home then this is a great option!

Do not go to this place for any reason!!!! The Italian female 'manager' was aggressive, bordering on threatening and her personal hygiene was lacking to a level where we could smell her body odor and odious bad breath, not to mention her greasy hair. The other members of staff were lovely aside from the 'Bouncer' who would struggle to count to 10 or list the alphabet.

From the moment our group walked in we were given dirty looks by the staff and were not even welcomed with a hello. As our bottomless brunch time finished, the waitress SNATCHED the bottles off our table with no warning. As we were confused what was happening, we followed the waitress to the bar where she proceeded to maliciously POUR THE FULL BOTTLES DOWN THE SINK. Regardless of whether we “paid for the time not the drinks” I couldn’t believe the behaviour of the staff. As this was completely outrageous service I requested to speak to a manager. I was so shocked when the lady that poured our drinks down the sink flicked her hair at me and announced in a smug manner that she was in-fact the manager, and if I had a problem I needed to write a review. Disgusting customer service from all members of staff with not one ounce of compassion. You should be ashamed of the people you have representing your restaurant.

Female staff are some of the rudest people I've ever come across. Horrible and unwelcoming. When we first turned up one waitress pulled a nasty face to the other one about us (paying customers) we spent hundreds to feel judged and down after what is meant to be a fun trip out. AVOID!!!!!!!

This place looks great inside. I had lunch with a business contact here. We ordered some cocktails first. At £14 a pop they are definitely over-priced, even by London standards. I then had a Rock Star Margherita pizza, which, also priced at £14 was nice...

Lovely vegan food, indoor and outdoor seating, prompt service, good wifi, relaxed vibe. I had to insist on my human right to pay cash. Cash is legal tender and paying with cash should be accepted everywhere with question.

The staff are so accomodating and friendly, and the hot desking concept works really well here. Great atmosphere and good for a change of scenery when WFH.
