Seaview Cafe in Colchester

Another let down …. I’ve always had great food from here but the problem I have had in my last 2 attempts at getting food is crazy …. First a few weeks ago I queued up for 20 mins then when I got to the counter and asked for just 1 cheese sandwich was told 40 mins wait !!!! So I didn’t bother …. Now today after spending 6 hours decorating a beach hut I decided at midday to go and order some food… brilliant no queue only to be told that the cook / chef was going out for 15/20 mins !!!!! Turning around to see him put his coat on and leave … at lunch time REALLY .. we have sent literally dozens of customers your way from our beach hut rentals and all of them have said what a great little cafe we have left your menus in our huts for the customers to look at ect .. unfortunately we have again been let down and found myself driving to Tesco to get lunch …. To save us from any negative feedback we are removing the menus from the huts in case something similar happens to our customers…

Ordered 3 x cod and chips and one curry sauce. Staff were really nice but that’s the only positive. Cost £35 and it was really not great. Chips tasted like cheap frozen chips, not chip shop chips, and the cod was really dry. Even the curry sauce was a bit gross. Was left feeling very disappointed.

Great food, good prices, reasonable. Staff are friendly. Would highly recommend. Couldn't eat all the chips and they were a small portion and the cod was amazing.

What a pleasant experience. Friendly waitress and nice fish and chips. We are from out of town so unlikely to be back but have to say I cannot fault our experience. 5 stars.

Amazing staff, so friendly and helpful. The food was great with a range of vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options. The restaurant was clean and takeaway option meant you could take your fish and chips across to the beach to eat. Would thoroughly recommend this little gem of a cafe.

Great fish and chips. Had takeaway yesterday late afternoon. Really busy - 15 minute wait. Good freshly cooked, best chips I’ve had in a long time.

Had fish and chips here, fish was great but the chips were frozen which was dissapointing no one wants frozen cheap chips at the sea side would be a lot better fresh I hope they start doing it , also wait was quite long for takeaway all in all ok

After waiting over 30 mins for milkshakes, bacon and onion sandwich and cheese toastie. Hardly any cheese and one slice of stale bread. Owner raised voice with her poor apology Nobody had said sorry before and that order had been lost. She also said she had sick member of staff who was now sitting down Hopefully nothing contagious. Had always had nice food before. Very poorly handled. Will not eat there again.still have stale foul taste of bread.

Went in there on Thursday and it seems to be run by kids it may have changed inside but we preferred the old cafe it had more atmosphere

I have eaten in many restaurants on and off the west Mersea Island , and the standard of the food at the Sea View dinner is amazing the Cod & Chips or scampi & chips are the best I’ve ever had. The staff are happy friendly & very busy, and the standard of cleanliness is top notch. You know it’s being cooked as you order so fresh and 💯 authentic!!! I think it’s the chips are the BEST ! TAKE NOTE - ALL OTHER CHIP SHOPs ON WEST MERSEA Melonie and her team are hands down the best Fish & CHIPS. Even when the Oyster bar was at its best - not a patch on this ! As all the other places let themselves down with the chips !! 10/10

I haven't seen such a slow service any where in the UK. I had to wait more than an hour to get my order and hardly there were 4 customers. And funny thing is, 4 people were working in the restaurant. The entire experience was very weird.

There was this woman who was extremely rude to me I walked in there to get some chips and they was cold and too crispy i then went in to get fish for my parents and she said oh it’s them again she was shut extremely rude and needs to be sacked your meant to go into a restaurant for a reason

What a wonderful find today on our visit to Mersea. Came across this gem of a place by the famous pastel beach huts. Customer Service so friendly and accommodating lovely to have such a welcome and a bubbly chat! Best part was the portion size of the chips and highly recommend the chocolate ice cream to follow afterwards. Simply the best!! 5 Star Most definitely will be back! Thank you x

Visiting the beach we decided to treat ourselves to some chips. Processed rubbish. How hard is it to prepare fresh chips!

Down by the beach today and sent my granddaughter to buy an ice cream . I do think £4.00 for one ice cream is way over the top!!!

Had takeaway fish & chips with family. Really lovely food and good value. Would definitely recommend.

Tough new rules Re COVID already in place at the cafe. Clear precise instructions as to hands, face and space. Felt totally safe in dining there and when taking away.

The cafe seems reasonable priced but to be honest I think the places here are going over the top with this covid business so its one in one out or there is 3 bdnches to sit outside on

The lady who served us was lovely and the food was nice enough but on remembering I had forgotten to say how I wanted the egg cooked I returned to the counter the lady who served me was clearly tables. The kitchen staff ignored me and when I started to ask as I was worried the cooking might have started the chef told me before I had finished that he was too busy to talk to me and I should just wait. He talked to me like a child and definitely put me off going back

Great food, excellent views, good prices. We had some food after a sailing day with seaskipr.com. Recommended.

We stopped here for coffee and a snack while we were in Mersea. ideal for us as there is outside seating and we had our dogs with us. Service was fast and the prices were very reasonable.

Found this on line , what a little gem.They do a lovely cooked breakfast to order.They also have a really nice selection of sweet and savoury pastries and pies .The Bakewell tart is superb and the sausage rolls scummyMake a point of visiting you won't regret it.Another plus is the view out to sea .

We often have a brunch at the Seaview Cafe. I have probably eaten here about 50 times since we’ve lived on the island. The food is top quality locally sourced fare, and always cooked fresh and to perfection. The Seaview Cafe is a local gem and we are lucky to have them. I’ve never had a single complaint and cannot recommendation them highly enough. If they are busy it’s worth waiting for a table as you won’t be disappointed.

Went to the bathroom to use the toilet after placing my order to find faeces up the toilet bowl under the seat. After telling my partner he bought it to your attention to then have it cleaned it was wiped over however the mark remained. The toilet seat was wet and just looked unhygienic. After leaving the toilet my cake & hot drink arrived (at this point I was already put off) after a couple of mouthfuls I couldn’t finish my cake and good job too as I pulled out a small hair from the icing. My other half didn’t enjoy his food by this point due to my findings. Would not eat or even drink here again.

Awesome fish and chips!!!! Went in on a lovely sunny day. The kids had fantastic home made milkshakes. These were followed by all four of us having the most wonderful fish and chips. Lovely little cafe.

This is an unpretentious cafe at the entrance to a holiday park. Don't be put off by the roped off "staff only" partition or the formica tables inside - the breakfast rolls and the coffee were really tasty and good value. and service was very efficient.

we visited west mersea very nice little village .harbour was near to the village spent time there. we stop for tea and cakes very pleasant staff very helpful table service reasonable price .

Had a pit stop here for 2 adults and 3 kids. Probably crazy of food for kids meals wasn’t too bad. Other things were a little on the high side for a seaside cafe. Kids had hot dog, chips & beans, also a nuggets,chips and beans. Daughter had a lamb burger and chips, hubby a breakfast bap and I had egg on toast. Mine was probably the most disappointing egg on toast ever. Very rubbery and greasy eggs, complete with little bits of hair? Fluff? Couldn’t quite tell. Son had some of it on his beans too. Shame as otherwise I can’t fault the service or friendliness of staff. Menu choice was broad and inside looked ok. We sat outside as we had the dog with us. Dog bowls for water provided but not clean.

Back again !!! Egg on toast with mushrooms- love !!!! Service with a smile as ever - these guys know how keep faithful customers! They could teach many a restauranteur/ chain about customer service

I’ve visited this cafe several times. The regular waitress is very friendly and chatty. There is a range of food choice so you will probably find something you like.

Only half full on arrival (Monday lunchtime, not in school holidays). The empty tables had dirty dishes and cups. We cleared our own table and piled up dishes on another. None of these tables were cleared by the time we left (although a staff member had made a start). Drinks served in mugs which had tea stains down the outside (on both drinks). We paid £8.60 for 2 teas and 2 slices of Bakewell tart, seemed a bottle steep for the experience.

Perfect place to stop by for a full English with great quality produce: the locally supplied bacon and sausages were extremely good and the standard sized breakfast was plenty

Popped in today and ordered a couple of fry ups here for me and the mrs...when it landed I was wondering if it was going to taste as good as it looks(you all know those ones that let you down when you tuck in, much like most Tinder dates) but this little beauty was cooked to perfection, the ingredients were top drawer and I was a very happy customer. Friendly staff and nice dessert offerings at a reasonable price made this a place that will be seeing me again. Highly recommend the Large Breakfast, the sausages and beans they serve here are great and for me the rest followed suit. UTV

Huge portions and good prices - always makes me laugh that the butchers where the meat is from is called 'Cocks'.......

We took a trip down to this little cafe for about 10.00 on Sunday and had no issues getting a seat. There is both inside and outside seating so you can make the most of the nice views and sea air on a sunny day.

Excellent fish and chips.. Apple crumble and custard was very nice. Staff friendly and welcoming. Will return.

On a very cold day with two small, well behaved dogs, we were told we had to sit outside in the wind.

First visit..never again..rude staff 40 minute wait for food..then they refused to serve my brother a drink..never been to such a rude poorly run place in my life..

Jason cooks a great breakfast either off the menu board or make your own selections. Staff very helpful and attentive

couldn't see any other food places but this one was great, nice staff, high chairs, and food was great. best lamb burger I had ever. very soft and well cooked. limited seating to best to visit on a non busy day or early.

Went here for a Sunday morning breakfast. Had to queue to get in at 9, had to wait a while for our food as it was so busy, but that was acceptable.

Had the full english which was great, but a lot. Now go for the breakfast bap, which is superb value and plenty. Can get busy due to the location, but worth the wait.

We came here yesterday & had a lovely day. Right on the beach front. I had the gluten free salmon fish cakes which were amazing. It’s nice to see gluten free choices on the menu. Good price, great quality & the staff are lovely & friendly x

Had a lovely Bacon Baguette and a cup of coffee overlooking the water, does life get better than that

Lovely breakfast, a little on the pricey side but good quality food. I had a scampi and chips and a kids chicken nugget meal but if u want the sides which are in with the price if you sit in, you have to pay extra so you are paying extra for the containers which I think is a little tight. Size portions was ok, but you can get a lot more for your money up the road.

Love this little cafe. They serve great snacks and meals and the best hot chocolate I have ever had in a cafe. Very friendly and great atmosphere.

Stopped off for hot drinks after a nice walk along the beach. Tables were dirty and not cleared, the food overpriced, and I had the worst hot chocolate, which just tasted of hot watery milk! Will not be returning.

It's nice to have a good cafe close to were I live so it's a bonus when walking the dog.

Only stopped for a cup of tea and we sat outside.Unfortunately it stated to rain so we went inside to find all the vacated tables still had dirty plates on them so we had to sit at one of them.I don't know the reason for...

Visited here on the recommendation of the manager of local accommodation that I had been staying the night before. Location is next to the beach and has parking. As it was a lovely sunny morning decided to sit outside and ordered the large breakfast. The food was cooked to order and sausage, bacon and the eggs high quality. Also came with toast, fried bread, fried potatoes fresh tomatoes and beans. Good coffe too. Suffice to say I don't have any room for dinner tonight.

Lovely busy little cafe. Food freshly cooked, fairly well priced and good views. :) can get busy in high season. Get there early ish.!

Volviendo a visitar lugares que no habíamos visto durante casi 60 años, West Mersea estaba en la lista. En la última ocasión que vine estaba en pantalones cortos, con un balde y la bayoneta y acompañado por mis padres.

Nos alojamos en Mersea cerca de la cafetería con vistas al mar, los propietarios de coches sugirió que pruebe el café cuando preguntamos donde podíamos desayunar. Nos reunimos con nuestros amigos y todos ordenados los desayunos y cafés. El café era excelente y el desayuno era bueno. La comida estaba caliente y abundante y buena relación calidad-precio.

La cafetería ofrece una comida, es razonable y sabe muy bien. Se encargan de todos los requisitos dietéticos y ofrecen una opción de comida para llevar.

We ate here this afternoon. What amazes me about this cafe and this is the 2nd time that we have visited, is that they serve the most perfect fish and chips for £7, which many Uk restaurants fail to do at twice the price. Today we ordered 1 fish and chips, and 1 scampi and chips, with garden peas (perfectly cooked) and homemade tartare sauce. Portions are a superb size too. You can eat inside or outside. For a family, we were amazed that they kindly provide children's plastic cutlery too. A very happy experience, and a particularly helpful, and smiley waitress attended to us today (Sat afternoon around 2pm)

We found this amazing cafe when we were strolling at the water, admiring the little beach houses next to the cafe. The food was good and the staff incredibly friendly. Will definitely come back!

Seaview CafeVery well run cafe that is open and you can see chef prepping the foof and cooking it. Very clean. Help waitresses and good varied menu. Situated, veritually on the beach and leading to the nearby Seaview Holiday camp. Would I recommend it. A big FAT YES!!

We are fortunate enough to live just around the corner from this gem of a cafe & the beach so visit it regularly. If you are thinking greasy food cafe, think again. This place takes serving food seriously. Great menu, including vegetarian. Open 364 days a year it gets very busy even during the winter months. There are a few tables outside, but in the nice weather they are soon taken.Breakfasts are popular, all locally sourced produce. My favourite. Good coffee. Take aways available too. I shouldn't be saying all this as we will never get served now!!!

We found this little gem by luck last year and found it again this year on a day out and the food again was excellent. The food is excellent value for money. Will definitely visit on another day trip to Mersea Island

Nice Café by the beach,visited on a sunny day so sat outside,limited outside tables available especially if a nice day,adjacent to popular area of beach.Toilets here,and no other café/shop to compete with so tends to be busy.Had a family meal and was value for money,fair priced.

We had always planned to go to the trendy fish shacks but as we arrived 3pm ish on a Sunday afternoon after a visit to Flatford mill we decided to have a quick lunch of fish and chips.You can eat in or take away, we chose to go and sit on one of the seats overlooking the colourful beach huts and the sea.Fish was incredibly fresh and price good value.Recommend if you don't want to queue at the upmarket sheds,I will try those on another visit.Enjoyed Mersea Island

We enjoy our trips to the Seaview cafe always plenty to choose from and they do a wonderful breakfast and the staff are brilliant.

You get a nice meal here, varied menu..i ate ham egg and chips, was lovely,,you can eat inside or out depending on the weather. It gets very busy when the sun shines and may have to wait a while, but its nice..good friendly service

Visited Seaview Café on Christmas Eve to have breakfast as a way to start the festivities. I have a feeling that it could become something of a tradition! The café was very busy, but notwithstanding, the staff were friendly and the food was amazing. It was one of the best vegetarian 'fry up style' breakfasts I have had. The mushrooms were juicy, big ones. Only trouble was, I had to stop my husband (who had an equally delicious meaty fry up) from stealing my mushrooms! Often meat free sausages try to look and taste a bit like real sausages and always, in my view, fail miserably. These however weren't trying to pretent to be like meat, but were honest about being vegetable and were some of the best veggie sausages that I have ever had. The whole breakfast was beautifully cooked and not at all greasy.My husbands breakfast was wonderful, with tasty locally sourced sausages and lovely lean looking bacon. He also had fried bread, so I stole some off him to make up for the theft of my mushrooms! We will definitely visit for breakfast again....and soon....and it wouldn't surprise me if we are there again on Christmas Eve 2017!

From our walk along the coastal path we walked into Seaview Caravan park where Seaview Cafe is located on the corner. A wonderful Cafe offering great full breakfasts, lunches, cakes or just a nice cup of tea or coffee. This Cafe is open every day if the year apart from Christmas Day. Staff are wonderful and work very hard to make sure your order is served quickly. Always cooked fresh from start of order. It's always very popular so that speaks volumes and it's right near the beach so great for take-always.

The cafe in itself is bright, clean and friendly. The reason for the review and two stars is a poor bacon sandwich. The bread was hard and stale, and the bacon was stiff, not much of it either. For £3.20, you could do a lot better. Try the Art Cafe instead.

Husband and I had two fish and chip lunches costing £7.80 each...which comprised of a large plate of chips and what can only be described as a piece of fish no bigger than a fish finger.We did not think this was value for money..£7.80 is quite a lot of money for a tiny piece of fish which was covered by a pile of chips...shame it let the cafe down after hearing such good reviews.

I came to Mersea Island with my husband to relive memories I had of as a child many many years ago. After walking out of a café on the Island, which shall be nameless, we drove round and found this beauty. Lovely friendly staff who immediately caught my eye when I stood at the counter and waited to order, and said " I wont be a moment ". So nice to acknowledge customers rather than head down and pretend that you aren't there. My husband had sausage egg and chips and I had cheese on toast washed down with a nice mug of tea each. We probably wouldn't travel this far again from London but if we did we would definitely come back and would recommend to others if they were coming that way. A very comfortable experience with delightful staff.

We live on Mersea and regularly have the full English breakfast on Sunday mornings. Having eaten breakfasts in many places Seaview Cafe is bar far the best quality and best value we have found anywhere. The quality of the meats are excellent and cooked healthily not greasy fried.

Visited West Mersea for the day with our dog too. Managed to get a seat outside. Went in to order food. Very friendly staff and although a small cafe, a good variety of food. We had cod and chips and one person had a panini, salad and coleslaw. Was told as they were busy there could be a 20 minute wait, which was fine as it was a lovely day. Our drinks were brought out immediately and food followed about 15 minutes later. It was very nicely presented and delicious! Good value for money. You can eat inside too or do a takeaway.

Me and my family visit this cafe everytime we are staying on the Island and its great. A great selection of good food is on offer and the cafe is in a great location just by the sea/beach. Excellent and highly recommended!

Now this seriously is the only café I will ever go in. The staff are so friendly and the service and food are great. If you're expecting fast, top notch service and food then this is not the place for you, this is a family friendly, warm and welcoming seaside café which serves really good food, cooked fresh to order, great fish and chips and all at really reasonable prices. I would like to see a couple more specials of say lasagne or something with rice or pasta as everything comes with chips but that's just my preference but that said it is still great and would not hesitate to recommend and can't wait to visit again.

This was our second visit to this Cafe and the first time that we had experienced the Breakfasts.We had our two Grand daughters (13 & & 9)with us on a break, who made up their own selections for breakfast, the staff were very helpful and friendly.Wife and I ordered the Basic breakfasts with some slight variations and I must say that all the food was freshly cooked and very well presented and most of all tasty.To conclude it was a joy to eat at this establishment and will be returning again in the future, the children ate all but some small amounts but we ate all, EXCELLENT, very well done to all concerned, many thanks.

For a seaside cafe this is very good. The choice of food is wide and interesting - someone has paid great interest in the menu. Unfortunately they haven't paid equal attention to the production side. We arrived at 12.15pm on a weekday, but it took 10 minutes in a queue before we could even place an order (just two burgers), and then another 35 minutes waiting before it arrived. The valiant front of house girl patiently takes orders, serves the food, collects the dirty dishes and does the washing up too. Either they need more staff, or a better system.

While on a seaside walk in between rain showers me and my partner Stopped here for Coffee and cake, the views are very pleasant and only being a short walk from the campsite seemed like the obvious place to stop and watch the world go by. We received excellent service with good strong hot coffee! The cup cakes were lovely very fresh and tasty and the vanilla was delicious. This is a great stop for people to grab a lunch or snack and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Right on the main beach in West Mersea. Lovely little cafe with great food. Just over £20 fed my wife and I + our two kids aged 6 and 8.

Great place too stop for refreshments while out walking the beach. Friendly staff, good food, they even provide watering bowls for those visitors with dogs. The cafe is just a stones throw away from the beach. Can't wait too visit through out the summer.

Disappointed with visit to this cafe. We took the last table which was by the door. The table still had the remnants of the last customers lunch, plates etc, there was no menu on the table and it also needed a clean.I went to the order point and asked for a menu. I ordered and then waited for one of the many staff to come and clean the table. The cafe was moderately busy, although the majority of the customers appeared to already be eating and there were plenty of staff. In the end we returned all the dirty plates etc ourselves and asked a member of staff if the table could get a wipe. Eventually someone came over to clean the table with a spray after our drinks had arrived.Food arrived and it was nothing to write home about. The waitress went and got us some cutlery but no napkins and it rather felt like this was a chore for her. Chips were ok but the sausage cheap, looked like it was cooked and reheated and was fairly tasteless. Ham and eggs were better.During our lunch we took it in turns to get up and close the rather heavy door to prevent the draft as every time anyone entered or left the cafe the door did not shut, maybe an adjustment to the door or a self shutting one?Could be a really pleasant stop off as right by the beach but on today's visit, I won't be returning and not sure what it would be like in high season when it really is busy.

A good cafe for lunch or a lovely hot chocolate when have been walking on the beach ,or in the summer for a bite to eat or drink to take away or eat in . You can sit outside as well.

We visited the Seaview cafe mid Sunday morning and it was heaving - luckily there was one table free (it was too cold to sit outside). We just ordered tea, coffee and a breakfast bap which all arrived surprisingly quickly given how busy it was. Couldn't fault the bap - it was well filled with decent quality bacon and sausage. The full breakfast being served to others looked very appealing as well. Good food, good service, decent value ... thoroughly recommended.

We have been here on a couple of occasions out of season. We sat outside even though a little cool. Service is pleasant. Food is down to earth but great value. Large Breakfast bap and cup of tea £4 - excellent. The inside was very busy even on a Monday in February. There were also a number of people collecting takeaways.It's not fine dining but honest grub. Recommend it wholeheartedly.

This is a very pleasant find, exceptional for a beach cafe. The staff are so friendly and happy, there is an amazing choice of food. Busy even in the winter, there must be long queues in the summer.
