I had dinner at this restaurant , I have been here a long time ago , I think it has improved way better, nice service, good food and very low prices , I'll be back again and 5 easy stars from me

Went out for lunch the menu has great offers and I still found something to eat being on a diet the kitchen accommodated the swaps I needed, Staff could smile once in a while and make more of an effort with their customer service but in all clean and tidy venue

Good party shame they turned the lights off to make us leave

Service the girl was very patronising my darling every other word quite rude. Food was gross how do you mess up chicken strips and chips? Not sure. Entrance to the car park is unclear . Toilets were like school toilets that had been messed up . Tables were sticky Would not recommend

Came for a late Sunday lunch/early dinner with Family. Wasn't too busy with customers at 5pm. The waiting staff were so lovely and really friendly despite seeming really busy themselves. I wouldn't recommend the roast dinners at this time of day as with with our meat/mushroom pie(v) we literally had peas, brocolli, a few underwhelming roast potatoes, one stuffing ball and gravy! It was ok but disappointing. Everyone else seemed to feel their food was acceptable but not great too. It's a shame as I really like this place as a venue but it's the second disappointing meal I've had here in the last year so will go elsewhere next time I visit my family.

Shared a platter, though we were hungry we didn't finish it Good pub food at sensible prices, original chips were not iing hot, they replaced them quickly without fuss.

Been here twice on the second occasion we were treated so poorly it was just unreal we opted for a buy one get one free burger only to be told that the deal was not on for the burgers we chose. When I ask the waitress why it wasn’t available they said it’s on the menu have a look I told them I’ve looked she/he looked but could not find it had to get a colleague. Nobody seem to know where it was to tell you certain burgers it took a few of them to find it very very poor.

Hadn't booked, but got a table in the bar, had their pie and mash. Service was very quick. Food piping hot. Thank you

Years ago it was good here, I’ve tried it a few times lately and today was the worst. I’ve had 4 steaks over a few visits and every rare steak I’ve asked for comes out well done . I’m sorry I don’t enjoy leaving bad reviews. The whole table didn’t enjoy their food, chicken burgers overcooked and hard. It’s a shame as we like the pub. I asked for chicken wings which never ever came and no apology when I asked for them to be removed from the bill. Then we were told to get off the table as it was booked out for one minutes time…..that was outright rude, we were early for our table and not advised we were on a time limit. So we went outside to finish our drinks…. Right next to the toilet drain that spilling into the garden….. when we left no one was sat at the table we got rushed off.all round it was pretty bad I’m afraid to say It was mother in laws birthday who was very disappointed

DO NOT VISIT THIS PUB ⚠️ The most rude appalling staff I have ever come across. My family and I have visited this pub many times and have never have service this appalling. We had ordered two cocktails on a Saturday night (when two for one cocktails are on) and paid full price for the cocktails without any mention of the offer on that night. With the football, on the pub was fairly busy meaning we could not see the signs at the bar detailing this offer. On our third round we asked if we could collect the free cocktail we were entitled to based on the buy one get one free deal and we were met with a rude belittling response from one of the bar staff named **Andy, who spoke down to us told us how it was our fault for not specifying that we wanted the deal earlier. After this we spoke to the manager, a blonde lady in a striped shirt, who was also incredibly rude and asked us if we could not read the signs which is incredibly offensive to family with a history of dyslexia. She made us out to be stupid claiming how the offer is shown all around the pub despite us only seeing one sign which was knee level at the bar. This rude manager was happy to miss out on any food or drink orders from a family trying to enjoy their night, instead of treating us with respect and serving us the drinks we had already payed for. Will NOT be revisiting any time soon. In response to your reply, I apologise for getting the names of your staff wrong. Aside from this, there is no so called “fiction” within my review, several comments had been made on wether we could read your apparently clear signs (which were barely visible) and no “hurtful comments” were made to your staff as we simply questioned the reasoning behind your policies. As well as this, we had seen the receipts and had not received the offer, hence why we had come to the bar to ask about it. It is fairly obvious that the only fiction lies within your response. This not the first review that has commented on the poor management of this pub and even in your response you are visibly condescending. It is only fair to warn other customers of the poor customer service shown this evening.

Posted a 3* 6 years ago and thought I would try this place again. Wouldn't bother! Honestly, out of 3 staff members, only 1 actually gave service with a smile. The lady on the welcome desk is so miserable, no hello or how are you just 'have you got a booking'. Seriously, how hard is it to actually smile and say hello. The next one might be young or new but come on service the table! comes over, I've asked if we could have one plate boxed up to take home. She said 'yeah sure' then takes half the plates, comes back, and gives me a bag to put the food in. Now I dont know if this is a 'new' restaurant food standard, but with every place I've ever been too I've never been handed a bag to put food in! 20 minutes later, the plate is still here, and there is no service. By that time, we had enough and couldn't be to wait any longer! The food was OK. One thing that stood out for me was I had the chicken tikka tandoori hot plate. But I dont understand why give a sizzerling hot plate with chicken wings and thighs (which you normally eat with your fingers) on a hot plate? It's incredibly awkward to eat.

Woman who welcomed us in was very polite, and friendly. Food was great, on time. Highly recommend this pub/restaurant.

Came in today with 25 family members and couldn’t be f asked for better service. The waitress was polite and helpful and the food was spot on thank you to all the staff for making our family get together an enjoyable time

Lovely local pub. Decent food and lovely atmosphere

This was my first visit and was amongst a large group, so I didn't have time for a good look around. The Sunday Roast was excellent value, although due to our delayed arrival, it was ordered via friends, so I didn't really know the choice available. The pub is certainly one the better Green King establishments, although they all do good value food. I liked the idea of the Waiter Station, which enabled the big group, I was with, to pay individually. This had been a concern as I had limited cash on me at the time. I am sure to be back again, so I'll keep you all updated.

Sunday Roast with frozen roast potatoes!!!!! Very disappointing to be honest. Not enough vegetables. The meat (rib of beef) was delicious but no offer of horseradish

Had a really good experience here today. The service was good and the staff were attentive. The food was good and arrived nice and quickly. The staff were good with the children too. The drinks also arrived quickly each time we ordered. It also wasn't too crowded which was really good.

Went today for a beef rib roast, beef just fell from bone, all was lovely except, it wasn't real potato, it was SMASH, ! You could taste it, thankfully it was a tiny amount, as in a table spoon full, if that. It wasn't busy, waitress was lovely. It's always so dark in there lol,

What a shame I wasted my birthday here. Starter was ok. Main meal meat sharer combo meal served Cold.. Complained and I was told we cook all orders fresh to order.... Rubbish. Said we could have our three glasses of diet coke taken off the bill. I said I'm hungry I've not had any food... They where not interested. Asked for a manager her comments where have three free puddings as an apology. As it was my birthday I said okay. After sitting there for 25 minutes and nobody came near us we decided to leave. I went to pay the bill and was charged for cold food and a burger that was so rubbery I thought it was plastic. What disgusting service. No apology or anything. As for the toilet... they are a no go area. Painted tiles and paint then falling off the tiles. Absolutely filthy and stunk. I would never return to this place. When you first arrive it smells delicious but don't be fooled.

Booked for a birthday meal or my daughter 4 people very disappointed there were so many items off the menu that we had set our hearts on But what we had was very nice and the staff we felt sorry for having to read out this long list of items that were missing Waffles off the menu was a bf mistake as so many people liked them I still have the girls a good tip as they were very pleasant

I booked a table for 6 people for a family birthday meal. On arrival we were shown to a table, the table was wet and had not been cleaned , the menus were sticky, there was a fork and chips on the floor under table. I used the ladies toilet which was basic but ok. My husband used the mens toilets and said they were disgraceful. The staff were polite and nice, but the whole place could do with a good deep clean . Our food was OK but nothing special.

Not visited for many years but has not lost any of its charm. The staff were very, friendly and helpful providing timely service and knowledge. Food was very tasty and definitely a good place for a meeting

Awful place first and last visit staff could of put a smile on their face waitresses need to know what they are bringing out to the table. Manger needs more management skills not standing back watching a member of her staff clear up he mess. Wish we had read the reviews as many mention rude staff.

We went as a family I'm 14 and I had a burger and I asked for 1 more peace of bacon and she went of at me as the manager she was so rude to me and shouting at a child is wrong she did not handle it well and so I have walked out she not good manager do not recommend. food was cold and I don't believe it was fresh as a family of 16 it came out to quick. hears a reply to the feedback I got sent I know we didn't get kicked out because of the bacon but I was doing a review of myself not the whole family I walked out because of the manager and nobody used violence but was just mad and angry because of the managers behaviour

Visited a couple of times over the past few months and every time we have visited we have had excellent service from the staff. One staff member that stood out was Rachel. She was very helpful suggesting drinks at the bar each time we visited. She is a real credit to the team. Over our visits the restaurant is always busy and the food has been delicious. The dishes we have tried are: Nachos (always a must), both The Ultimate Feast sharer and Spicy-Tex Mex chilli sharers are good too. Everyone loves a chicken wing and are always a fav with our family. My last visit I tried the Flat Breads, and they were lovely, had the Nashville sauce which gave a nice twist to it. The menu has something for everyone's taste. Good food at good prices. Charlie the manager should be proud of her team, she and her team work hard to provide service that has never been disappointing. Well done Rovers Tye team :)

XL mixed grill was very well cooked and tasty. Service was excellent. We sat in a well lit part of the pub. Would come back again but book first to avoid disappointment. Six of us spent a happy Sunday afternoon there.

Had a table booked for 28 people for my daughters 21st. Waitresses were on the ball right from the start. Taking orders bringing out all the good and even clearing the tables. Fantastic staff would defiantly recommend. Well done guys ❤️

Visited on Mother's Day. Although busy, we were seated quickly. Lots of choice on the menu, and our food came promptly. The food was excellent value for money and all well cooked. The restaurant looked like it was on one level and had a wheelchair accessible loo.

Food was like Iceland frozen food but at alot more cost .. The staff was friendly But I asked for comfortable chairs as I'm disabled and my mother has a hip issue but we was sat beside the window on chairs that wasn't the comfiest.. It's OK but nothing special like once was Also the disabled toilets the tap harldy washes ya hands with the dribbling of water 💧

Racist staff member. We are a mixed race family that just moved from London to Colchester. We fell in love with the Rovers tye the first time we set foot in it. We’ve been a few times, but the level of racism I experienced with a staff member there last night was horrible. I simply asked for a table and she stared at me with disdain. She spoke harshly to me and shouted at me. Usually all the other staff are nice but this particular one was very mean to us and was very unwelcoming. Beautiful place great food but this particular lady was very mean I had to leave for my mental health. It’s 2023 I can’t believe this is still happening. I saw how she spoke the the White people she didn’t shout at them or scowl her face. I told her she was beautiful and left I smiled and stayed positive through out her verbal abuse. The fact that these establishment tried to invalidate my experience and dismiss speaks about them and what they stand for. I didn’t say anything negative about the place itself but I stand on my experience the woman is racist and if you don’t speak up about racial abuse you’re condoning it.There are other people who work there I didn’t complain about them. Well they my review won’t affect your business by any chance because people of color aren’t your target audience hence why you’re not sorry or trying to be infact your proud of it. Who employs a racist staff member ? Don’t go to places that make you feel you shouldn’t be there. I see how you all are happy and supportive of racism. And to the person who commented my experience was hoax how did you reach that conclusion? Did you watch a cctv footage of the service she rendered me? Did you reach out to me to find out ? If you have a cctv watch what transpired between us and if you haven’t done that you have no right whatsoever to cal my experience hoax. I complained about a staff member not the pub itself now guess what the staff member did? She harassed my family the last time we went in there thankfully we have proof this time. .
