Havn't been to the Greyhound for a while, nipped in for lunch and will definitely be back. Staff were lovely, good choice of well kept beers, and despite being really busy found a table easily enough and food was fresh, good value and came out quickly despite having a couple of big groups in. Had run out of their home made pies (was quite a late lunch!) so will have to come back and try soon!

Fantastic Sunday roast at The Greyhound, they managed to fit us in on a busy Sunday and I'm so glad they did, the staff were friendly and polite. They have a really good offering for a Sunday with roasts and normal pub food too. The food came out quickly and tasted great! We both had Pork Roasts and the pork was cooked perfectly. The atmosphere in the pub was cosy and welcoming, will defiantly be back to try the rest of the menu.

It was quite cold in here Friday lunch time . It was a cold and bright sunny day but I felt it could have been warmer. There's lots of seating in here, but where we sat you could hear the hand dryer going on in the toilets. I really think they should be replaced with paper towel as it was quite distracting. Anyway, the Staff in here are exceptional. The service was good and our Lunch was very nice. In the Summer their Beer Garden is absolutely great and this is where they really excel. So I’ve been going to The Greyhound for 47 years plus and remember the lovely landlady from then Mrs Smith who is still resides in the village. Today I walked in at 5.30pm and was banned! I was there with my family just over a week ago and the tables, chairs etc are always reserved however, unless your face fits the landlord and landlady will not take a booking unless it is in the back bar. However we did sit on the sofa which had a reserve on it we advised the landlady that we would move as soon as the person arrived we would be happy to move. No problem! Prior to that the large round table was also reserved and the party that were using bad language but nobody questioned them to keep quiet. However I was with my family and was told that we were too loud and to keep quiet however there was nobody in the bar! This has always been our local and they are happy to take our money and have never had a problem apart from their bad attitude which we have ignored. Never a greeting or a hello or acknowledgment. We are just a number to them and they love their authority to ban anyone! How unkind, unfair and rude and we have supported them through their bad times! We are on a long list and just a number on their long list to be banned and we all know in the village that this is not an isolated incident and the list is growing and know of many many locals that have been banned! They are bullies and I will stand up for myself! However being here so long and knowing so many people in the village it’s about time everyone should speak up about how the owners treat us all and this is the first time that the ‘Landlord’ has ever spoken to me or acknowledge me and to ban me. As to you Lynne you served our drinks that night and if we were too loud etc why did you and your staff keep serving us?

Whilst visiting Wivenhoe, we came across the Greyhound pub and decided to go inside and have a drink. I was with my wife and son. On entering this delightful pub I enquired to the lady behind the bar if it would be okay just to have tea and coffees. The drinks soon arrived at the table we were sitting at served with a smile and a biscuit for each of us. The pub is deceptively large with a good size outdoor area at the back. Food was being served while we were there and it looked delicious. I noticed they had real ale on tap as well. A lovely pub with good service and friendly staff, recommended. Just to add, finding parking anywhere in Wivenhoe can be difficult especially at weekends.

Came onto Tripadvisor to leave a review for our genuinely great evening and really shocked by the run of negative reviews recently. This has not been my experience at all in the 5 or 6 times that we have used The Greyhound in the last 18 months. The food is absolutely excellent - both in terms of value for money, and quality, and quantity to be fair! Yes it is pub grub, but it is ridiculously good value for money with many main meals around the £12 mark and there are very few places round here that are still pulling that off in the current food price crisis. The Chicken Tikka Masala was absolutely amazing - great quality chicken breast and full of flavour, served with three dips, naan bread and a popadom for £12!!! The ham is delicious and of excellent quality making the Ham egg and home made chips a great option and the little mini sausages in honey and mustard sauce with a chilli dip are cracking every time. It has a lovely beer garden, nice atmosphere inside and is always very busy - so it can't be that bad!! It is truly excellent value for money in a time that this has never mattered more. We will certainly be back!

I feel compelled to leave this review after leaving this venue. I was advised I would be unable to order food for 30 mins, fine happy to wait. Returned 30 mins Later and told the same thing. Despite other tables orders being taken. I accepted that they may be busy and decided to wait. Then several table that had ordered after us were served food so I decided at this point to ask for a refund and express my dissatisfaction. At this point I was met with what I can only describe at the worst customer service I have ever received. I was told I was attacking the staff merely for asking for a refund and an explanation. All I was left with as a response for the bad service as there’s something you don’t know. I was honestly left upset when I left.

Food took a while to arrive despite a pre order but it was very tasty none the less. We did actually pre book the duction room upstairs for our group but was told it was unavailable, would have been nice to know this before arriving as we felt crammed in to the corner.

My vegan bean burger was bland and totally lacked any flavour, my so called seasoned fries were not seasoned. Couldn't use the salt/pepper grinders as they were gunked up. This was served to me on a split skanky board really grim. I went and got myself a plate. My husband ordered the special; shell on tiger prawns with a sweet chilli sauce and garlic ciabatta . The prawns were served shell on and covered in bottled sweet chilli sauce!! Why on earth would you put chill sauce all over shelled prawns when the customer has to peel them!! Very unpleasant sticky mess. Surely the sauce should be in a pot. The tiger prawns did not look like they had seen a hot pan but possibly a microwave. They were tough to peel as the skins were tight. His small portion of double cooked chips were burnt and the waitress looked rather embarrassed. All in all memorable for the wrong reasons.

The owners of this pub are truly horrid people. The tall bearded man said some foul things I wish not to repeat, using swear words towards me and my family because we all we did was politely address the fact we got the wrong order and would appreciate the correct one. The food wasn’t even nice! My friends fish had hair in the batter! After speaking to other locals it would appear this is not an isolated incident and that him and his wife are very rude towards many people in the town. I won’t be going in there ever again and will be sharing my experience with my local friends. I would advise the owners to maybe think about a new profession as customer service is not their forté.

Just had the worst restaurant experience ever. Booked a table for 4 at the greyhound for 3pm. Me, mum, lindsey and Paul. The 'barman' looked at me and then ignored me for 5 mins. We sat at the table for 40 mins. Lindsey went to the bar to ask if it was bar service. Geezer who had ignored me at the bar came over and told us that they had sold out of roasts, but we could have Ham,egg and chips for£11-95. I went to the bar to complain and asked to speak to the manager. The geezer was the manager. Ended up going in the railway for pints and a pickled egg. Mum enjoyed her gin though. Getting a take away curry now. He was about 20 wearing shorts, very unprofessional. Reckon daddy owns the pub and made him manager. Gonna stick it on trip advisor

I would like to share a very unpleasant experience at the greyhound pub yesterday which I feel I need to bring to people’s attention. I was out with my friends and our children for lunch at the greyhound pub, we chose to sit at the restaurant area at the rear of the pub away from the public bar as we had children with us, bear in mind there is limited areas to socialise in Wivenhoe and our favourite coffee shop was closed. The premises was almost empty apart from a few local publicans. We were welcomed into the pub our orders were taken the children were well behaved before lunch. Once we had eaten the girls (one 3 and another 2 year old) became restless and wanted to have fun much to the owners dislike who started shouting from the kitchen - “I had enough of you” , “It’s time to go home” , “Get out now”. Also the owner was very aggressive and confrontational towards my polish friend. His wife was very rude and tried to tell us that our kids were uneducated. This unpleasant situation happened in a blink of an eye which made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. Bearing in mind they waited for us to pay the bill first before they were so rude to us and our children. My husband who was born in Wivenhoe confronted the owner this afternoon but he just denied the whole situation. I wonder if they are racists or they just hate kids?? We all feel very very sad about what happened and going to report it further! Tatiana

The staff is not friendly, no one ever smiled at us even when my little one said to the waitress “thank you” four times, she didn’t even acknowledge her. The place stinks: when we got home I had to put all our clothes in the washing machine, and have a shower, my hair smelled of grease and deep fried… I had to spray all (designer) coats with febreze but I think they will need to go to the dry cleaner. There’s a free car park directly opposite the pub.
