Pretty poor. Service was non existent although the staff were very nice when we interacted with them. Be useful to know when you sit down what items on the menu aren’t available rather than spending ten minutes deciding then being told what you want isn’t available when you order. Food low quality. Chips awful! Scraggy bits of burnt greasy potato. Fish not good as was mostly batter and struggled to actually find the fish inside. Not a great experience so definitely will not be back.

I've been here twice before - lunch once, dinner once. Lunch last time, about a year ago was reasonable, dinner poor. Tried again for lunch as convenient and passing. Venue is clean, tidy well appointed. we were there fairly early around 12. Staff are pleasant and service is brisk, no issues. 1 pint diet pepsi, 1 large wine, 1 beer £20 notes, drinks all good. Food, not so much. Chips slightly underdone, very small potions of everything, minimal presentation effort with food, chicken salad, barely any chicken. Cheeseboard for desert, epic fail. Some places barely supply crackers, others small potions of cheese. Here - plenty of crackers, single variety of cheese, for £10. Personally I won't be back, there are plenty of pubs that do better food. Happy to pay more than £10 for cheeseboard, I just expect variety of cheese and some presentation, I could have done these in the house with a large block of cheddar. Sub optimal experience.

We ordered 4 starters to share. All of them tasted like they were overcooked and had been reheated multiple times. Rocket salad with one was completely wilted as if it had been under a heat lamp. Cheese fondue was watery and not nice. I think you guys need to pick up your game. For what you charge this was a miserable effort. Clearly the passion has been lost if indeed it ever existed. On the upside the bartender was pleasant and the beer was served well. We won’t be eating here again anytime soon.

The rooms are decorated beautifully as is the bar and restaurant, quirky and loved the decor. Only thing I would mention is the window was left open on arrival the room was cold. Gorgeous heavy full length curtains over a radiator doesn’t add up. Would defo stay here again. Highly recommended

A really disappointing visit which was a shame as we’ve been coming for meals here for about 9 years . Visited for my birthday meal last night, a Wednesday, so the place wasn’t too busy. Menu looked lovely and we were looking forward to the usual high standard, however we were really let down. Firstly ordered a cocktail, which was served in a half pint glass, which felt a bit odd but didn’t worry me. We then found out, however, that everything I’d wanted to order from the menu was unavailable, as was also the case for my son and my mum, with multiple items simply not being available. We ordered our second choices and waited patiently. Our starters arrived and we found that the cauliflower fritters came half incinerated where the batter hadn’t quite covered the cauliflower, and came with no curry mayonnaise as stated in the menu. We complained and were told the curry mayonnaise wasn’t available so plain mayo was then delivered, bit of a letdown as it made the starter quite bland and we weren’t told this when we ordered. When our main courses then arrived my husbands mixed grilled which sounded lovely on the menu, came not with the half roast chicken as promised on the menu but with a couple of small pieces of chicken breast. Again we queried this and were told the menu was wrong, and that it was being changed the following day. The food itself was ok, not special but adequate, and the staff were lovely and made sure we didn’t have to pay for the meals that were incomplete or poorly cooked, but that didn’t really make up for a spoiled rare night out for us for a special occasion. Really disappointed, and sadly we probably won’t come back after this experience. Very poor availability of menu items, poor bar serving, burned food and missing food made what should have been a nice meal out a bit of a trial.

An old mate and I decided to head out on a chilly night to chance our arms at the Seaton Lane Inn, where I had had a really delicious meal in the past, although I had heard that it had changed management since then so I was eager to see if the food was as I remembered it. It was even better! Quiet for a Saturday evening, but very friendly and attentive staff, absolutely delicious food (and plenty of it) and, as the last time, the best chips in the North East without question! Will certainly be back here again very soon. Thank you!

Called in yesterday to meet with a friend. Friendly staff and lovely ambience. We both ordered Scampi & Chips for lunch. When they arrived the chips were dark and overcooked. Luke warm too. Felt as though they weren’t fresh to be honest. Maybe cooked earlier & kept warm? 🤷🏻‍♂️ We both ate the food although it was disappointing. We did mention the disappointing chips to the waitress who told us that the chef “cooks them twice” as she rolled her eyes and smiled in agreement with us. Advice to chef… cook ‘em once and do them properly. That way they’ll be fresh and hot. The Seaton Lane is usually good for food so we will go back but will avoid the chips.

I’ve visited the Seaton Lane Inn a few times but after this visit I won’t be going back. The rest was nearly empty when I arrived with a friend. You have to order at the bar now. I ordered food at 1pm. We were still waiting at 1.30pm. People who came in after us were served before us. My friend ordered a half peri peri chicken and I ordered scampi and chips. The peri peri chicken is not half a chicken, it’s two pieces of chicken. My chips were luke warm and the scampi was overcooked. The food on the menu doesn’t come with veg. If you want veg then it’s a side order and only green beans and peas. This what happens when a good pub gets taken over by a corporate. I did complain, no refund was offered.

Very disappointing Sunday Lunch. Food is what I would expect at a poorly catered function event. Unappetising, tasteless thinly sliced beef, strangely textured Yorkshire pudding ( definitely not home made), no mashed potato and thin watery gravy. It’s ages since my wife and I were able to escape domestic commitments on a Sunday. So we headed off to take in Dalton Park (for my wife) and Seaham Sea Front (for me). There’s plenty of places for lunch in Seaham now but the Seaton Lane Inn has always had a good reputation so we booked a table for 2.30pm. I really fancied the Pheasant on the menu. And my wife decided on a Parmo. We both looked forward to a fruit crumble for dessert. I went to order. No Pheasant !! No fruit crumble !! So I asked for Belly Pork. Guess what ? No Belly Pork Linguine ? No !! Aaarrrggghhh We very nearly just left but were wary that we wouldn’t get a table anywhere else at that time of day. So reluctantly I ordered Gammon, which to be honest I can have any day of the week. My wife’s Parmo was very greasy and she left quite a lot. My Gammon was ok. Then we took advantage of a free dessert, which isn’t openly advertised by the way. Honestly if I paid £7.50 for a small piece of Brownie I’d have sent it back. I couldn’t eat it all. It was so dry I had to eat a small bit of it at the same time as a spoonful of ice cream. We just gave up and left. Very disappointing and I felt sorry for my wife as it was me who suggested the Seaton Lane Inn. Very disappointed. Won’t be back.

I visited the seaton lane inn with family. In the past the food has always been good and value for money but it has been a long time since I visited. 4 of our party had fish and chips which looked lovely and they all enjoyed the meal. My daughter chose chicken and bacon linguine for £15 and I chose the chilli prawn linguine for £16. When they arrived my plate had half the portion of linguine to my daughters with the sum total of 4 prawns. This is a dish I have often in different restaurants and this was the most disappointing I’ve ever had. I politely expressed my disappointment to the waitress who said she would pass it on, however, there was no attempt to offer any discount. (We spent £130). The waitresses were lovely and attentive, so perhaps they had no authority to offer this. My daughter stated that her linguine tasted like a microwave ready meal. Despite the waiting staff being lovely, I won’t choose to eat here again

I don't give too many harsh reviews so not enjoying writing this one but this is what the site is all about, you have to be honest about your experience and if they don't know they won't change. This visit was really a 2* rating, the one before was a 3 and the one before that a 4, so we have to be fair and average it out...but be warned, as the title says...getting worse on each visit and we won't be back for a good while till reviews improve.A couple of months ago we had a nice dinner here albeit a bit pricey. Last month was bang average and they messed the pudding order up completely. This time, the whole experience was awful.Sunday Dinners each time and on this visit the place was cold to the point we didn't take our coats off and the family opposite had their winter coats on throughout also.Staff previously really nice but this time just ok. Food was very poor. Watery gravy, watery cauliflower cheese, other veggies dry and uninspired. Meat was ok but wife's beef had big chunks of fat. Two insipid roast potatoes, no mash. Fair play to the bloke behind who insisted on more spuds. For us, complaining was just going to extend a poor experience and we just wanted out of there so finished and left.Shame as it's been nice before and has a nice feel/atmosphere normally but plenty of other places to choose from so won't be back for a good while.

He took it back and came back with a scoop of ice cream on it. Went away came back stating the general manager had advised him that that dessert doesn’t come with a scoop of ice cream and could I go pay for it. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I politely gave my view and that we wouldn’t be returning and that if the manager wanted me to pay for a scoop of ice cream after spending over 60 pounds he could come and discuss it himself. One of the other bar staff came over to apologise. Wished I had read the reviews first and saved money by going to another lunchtime venue in Seaham that serves quality food.

Visited today for a birthday . We were booked for 2pm and were seated quickly so chose our meal and paid by 1.55, however it was 2.30 before our meal was served and it was another 5 minutes before we received the vegetables, the waitress did apologise for the wait. Unfortunately when they did arrive they were badly undercooked so much so they were inedible. We can tolerate al dente carrots but they were practically raw and raw turnip is not pleasant, when the waitress did her check we told her and she apologised and said she would get them replaced which she did but it was another 5 minutes and in the mean time the rest of our food was getting cold. They replacement vegetables were just the same but this time swimming in water. This wasn't the cheapest Sunday lunch at £10.95 and £12.95 so it was very disappointing as the vegetables are an integral part, we left unsatisfied!

As regular patrons to the SLI we were very much looking forward to going back. However sadly, it seems as though things aren't what they once were. Our meals were overall, substandard. The halloumi skewers with pomegranate salad was slimy and the pomegranate wasn't present? The chips.... where do I start, simply hideous. If I was to guess i'd say they were reused from an earlier serving. As my other reviews will demonstrate I'm extremely balanced and I'm happy to eat cheap and cheerful or top end. What I don't like, is being charged the prices at SLI and getting below par food. Please sort out your quality and please don't hide behind staff shortages or covid. Would I recommend - Not at the moment but hopefully soon. Value for Money - Sadly not on this occasion Would I return - Yes, but once the kitchen is up to speed.

We stayed for 3 nights. We chose to eat at the Seaton lane Inn restaurant so we could drink without worrying about driving.I wish we had not.Every single day and meal had something missing off the plate or completely missing off the menu.Mushroom stroganoff had a decent flavour but nobody had cleaned the dried mushrooms properly and a few mouthfuls were full of dirt and grit. It made me nauseous. The breakfast advertised a vegetarian full English. Every day had no veggie sausages in stock. Each day, I was told they'd only found out that morning. You would think that by the second day they would at least grab some from a supermarket. I've paid to have them as part of my room rate. The halloumi salad was dry as a bone. When I asked where the dressing was they admitted they had run out of balsamic glaze. The waitress offered me a basil oil instead which was not that great.I just tried to order a falafel burger and guess what? Out of stock.Ordered a mushroom and red pepper Wellington and totally forgot about those mushrooms. Still unwashed and full of grit. I ate the vegetables. My fault for being too lazy wanting to relax in one place. The other half quite like his fish and chips though. The female staff members are really nice. But the food is shocking. We ate here twice, once for dinner and again for breakfast. The two occasions couldn’t have been further apart in terms of service although the quality of the food was not a high standard. We ordered 2 starters (Duck Gyoza and Halloumi, tomato & basil tart) to share and they were both good. For dinner we ordered a steak pie and a chicken & chorizo burger, both with fries. The steak pie wasn’t the best meat, pastry or gravy but it was edible and hot. The chicken & chorizo burger didn’t appear at all and I was served a beef burger. The waitress didn’t appear back for some time and apologised profusely saying it was her fault. I had already started it so I brushed it off and finished the meal. The burger was a standard catering burger (4oz x 2) and was average. That said, the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgable so I was happy to forgive the mistake. They were all following the procedures well and explained the extra measures being taken. The breakfast waitress was not keen on wearing her mask (I know it’s not a requirement but if worn should cover nose and mouth not just mouth) and although the breakfast was edible the sausages were very poor quality and the mixed mushrooms had a very odd flavour. The waitress made it clear that she was not taking the COVID issues seriously and complained that the mask being denim made her too hot.

I live nearby but had never previously eaten here since the current owners took over, because I think they have spoiled a good local pub by removing the bar area. However, we wanted to meet some friends there so decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, my meal was really terrible. Although I am not vegetarian, I often choose vegetarian options so I decided to have the Mushroom and Red Pepper Wellington, which sounded interesting. This came with a large portion of new potatoes and some overcooked and tasteless vegetables. The Wellington had an extremely thin section of mushroom and red pepper, I would guess no more than half a mushroom and one slice of pepper, on top of thick stodgy pastry. I ate the small filling part and most of the vegetables as I was hungry, but left all the stodgy part. When the waitress took away the plates and asked if everything was ok, I reported this to her and she said she would tell the chef and the manager. Subsequently, no deduction was made from the bill, until one of my friends again pointed out my complaint, and after further consultation, one glass of wine was deducted from the bill, but not the meal. This seemed an odd decision.I should say that my companions meals were satisfactory, except for the chips on one meal which were dry and overcooked. Maybe I chose the wrong thing, but this is not an experience I will consider repeating.

We had a table booked while visiting the area post lockdown and was our first restaurant visit since March! We were a little nervous but we didn't need to be, the measures put in place made us feel completely at ease. If it wasn't for the segregated seating area (making us feel like we had a private dining booth!), the perspex at the bar, hand sanitising points and the staff wearing masks we would never have remembered that we visited during COVID-19! Food was of a high standard and the staff made sure to make our dog feel welcome too as she lay by our feet, she certainly enjoyed the attention! Thank you for a wonderful evening, we will definitely be back next time we are in the area!

Being a local, i must admit i went off this place since it was re-done due to the beer and food menu changes, and also we didn't have the best meal a few months back. I also felt it became a posher version of "weatherspoons", and it lacked that nice restaurant feel. However, i am beginning to warm to the place again... and it excelled in every way possible! We visited on Saturday evening, and booked a table for 6.30pm for drinks and food later on that evening.Social distancing was observed by all and the staff. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was a very nice atmosphere, and what i thought was a great point, was the table service that was provided (no queuing at the bar), and you were never left without a drink! Something to think about for the future!?Food was superb. One of the best parmo's outside of Middlesbrough/Stockton! Wife had lamb's liver and she raved about that! Starter and main, yet no room for desert, which i was gutted about! I so wanted to try the cornflake tart!10/10 from me!we'll be back, and will bring our young children to cause havoc!

Really lovely food, was so nice to have the homemade steak pie after weeks of cooking at home!I booked a table over the phone and upon arrival we were given instructions of how the ordering system worked etc. The staff were all following guidelines well, masks were worn by all.The restaurant still looks brilliant - the screens between tables look as if they’ve always been there, so it doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable/ like you’re in a clinical environment.Keep up the good work guys!

The staff were excellent, could not fault them, nothing was too much trouble, friendly and with a smile. Ellie and Jasmine were outstanding. The room was lovely, clean, nice size and comfortable. The bed was enormous and we had a good night’s sleep every nightHowever, the food was VERY disappointing - burnt but somehow soggy chips (an art!), loads of shell in the poached eggs at breakfast. The worst was the ‘chestnut and wild mushroom risoniotto’ (risoniotto is made with a type of small pasta). What I got was a very dry ‘risotto’ with one chestnut mushroom cut in 2, no wild mushrooms but as a substitute, sun dried tomatoes not even cut up - there was no warning that what I had ordered was not what I was going to get. It was inedible. Shame, but I felt like the food let the Inn down

I called in personally to book four days before our visit. When we arrived were shown to table set for 5 when I had booked for 6. Our booking for 6 at 5 pm had written as 5 for 6 pm which was not a good start. Four of our part ordered the Seaton Lane Inn burger. It was obvious the burgers were not homemade but bog standard frozen burgers. After taking a few bites our son found the centre of the burger pink and uncooked. On showing a member of staff the meal was taken off the bill. The four of us that had the burger spent much of the night and next morning in the toilet. It is a great pity as our previous visits had always been first class.

After a day outside in January, we were both ready for a hot meal. It was fairly slow, so they let us take any table without a reserved sign. Ordering is at the bar, which works well. I had the steak pie and my wife had fish and chips. Both portions were huge and tasted very good, although the fish and chips mere a little greasier than Downys.Service was wonderful- everyone was very nice and helpful. We would definitely go back!

Called in for early dinner (approx 5pm) and it wasn’t very busy. We were served our drinks quickly and our food arrived within 10 minutes of placing our order. I had the Halloumi Burger & Chips and my husband had the classic Burger & Chips and Apple Crumble with Custard, the food was very good, served nice and hot. We were very impressed with the friendly service and the interior decor is beautiful, especially the water fountain. We will definitely return when we are next in the area.

As a regular visitor to SLI my overall experience tends to be a positive one. The week before Christmas as a last minute decision I thought it would be great to catch up with some old friends over lunch. However, being last minute I knew I would be up against it finding anywhere with 'guaranteed' availability for lunch. After speaking with the duty manager they managed to squeeze my party in for lunch, which was absolutely fantastic. We were very prompt on the day and our meals came out extremely quickly given how busy the restaurant was. We opted for the traditional Sunday fayre and there were no complaints just empty plates all around. Would I recommend: Yes Will I return: Yes! Value for money: Yes, especially if you want to take it up a notch locally.

Our family of five stayed here whilst visiting a relative nearby, and had a wonderful experience. Our rooms were immaculate - so clean that it really felt that we were the first people to have ever stayed there. This was doubly impressive as the hotel accepts dogs - there was no evidence, be it physical or smell-wise - of any untoward issues related to that.

Restaurant was almost empty which is telling. The service is fine. The food is quite expensive in comparison to other similar places locally but the portions were sizeable. My issue was with what I ordered in particular which was a chicken biriyani. The meal was warm in parts and the rice was partly hard bits. The chicken was plain chicken pieces cooked and I believe then smeared with a neat curry type paste. It was then served with a jug of sauce separately, which makes me wonder where they got the chef from. I couldn't eat the meal and the waitress clearly didn't pick up on that.

Visited today for Sunday lunch as a treat for our parents. I was immensely disappointed at the food which we were served. Having visited around 6 months ago we certainly expected more, considering on the last occasion we had no complaints whatsoever. Roasts were ordered for each of us, three beef and one ham. Service was quick and efficient, however when the food arrived I was immediately disappointed visually, which then led to further disappointment upon beginning to eat the food. The vegetable accompaniments are served in separate bowls, with the meat, Yorkshire puddings and potato’s already on the plate. The bowls in which the veg are served in are minuscule, and whilst two of our party don’t have huge appetites I worried that the portion sizes appeared small. Further more the vegetable bowls were a basic (possibly frozen?) selection, comprising of peas, sugar snap peas, carrots and cauliflower, The whole of the meal tasted rather bland and boring. Whilst I cannot say it was dreadful, it certainly did not meet my expectations and I wouldn’t return in the future.
