Coffee @ Chesneys in County Durham

Me and my family came in today for a bit of food and drink, it all seemed fine at first until we sat with our food and noticed the stuffing was missing on our plates. Suffering from anxiety I had to pump myself up to go and ask about it. I was spoken too quite rudely (also shouting over the coffee machine which was very uncomfortable) because we apparently "had to ask" for the stuffing.. even though on the menu it said "& stuffing" which makes me believe it is automatically included in the meal. They said they'd bring it over but we never recieved it. The panini was also small and dry and we all had dodgy stomachs afterwards. If you have to ask for an item to be included on your meal, it should be written clearly on the board. Will not be returning.

I only got a large takeaway Cappuccino which cost £3. I enjoyed the Cappuccino. A full cup of of coffee compared to 3 quarters cup in Greggs. Chesney had quite a few people eating in- Saturday Coffee at chesneys is in Durham, Dragonsville Retail park.

Had breakfast at Chesney’s it was delicious and value for money. Freshly prepared and well presented. The service as always was excellent. We regularly have coffee at Chesney’s and it never disappoints and is much better than chain coffee shops.

Called in for breakfast whilst out shopping with the wife and MIL portion size was amazing freshly cooked staff were pleasant and friendly.

Straight off the motorway, great place exactly was we were looking for. Good breakfast service 4 large English breakfast served in good time with toast and coffees inc about £10 each Eat in Must be a good dinner as well as cafe even alcoholic drinks available behind the counter

Called in for a coffee but decided to try a giant Yorkie with meat chips gravy and stuffing was absolutely delicious left us full but found some room for the best brownie I've had in a long time Keep up the good work

Good food, great service, the cheesecakes are fab!

Eggs burnt, toast was crusts not slicers and burnt and over butterd and to much grease on the toast with the eggs coming on top instead of the side with fresh butter to butter how you like it yourself

Chesney's is a total gem of a place. The staff are great and the menu is proper cafe food. There's always a generous carvery sandwich, which my partner loves. The quiche is good and there's always a variety of hot food, panini/ sandwiches, scones and cakes. The coffee is very decent too. However, if it's pudding you are after The legendary ginger sponge is what you want. Seriously epic. Light, tasty, great with custard, in short it's a proper classic. As is Chesney's itself.

Absolutely the best hot chocolate I have ever tasted, full English breakfast was also outstanding, will definitely be back again thank you.

Quite literally the worst breakfast I've ever had the eggs were burnt on the bottom the sausage was the cheapest imaginable and when we said yes we would like brown we were given one tiny sachet each at over 20 quid for two breakfast with coffee I think the price would alow us at least two. Always rated this place highly bur after this we won't be back once again 20 quid and left most of it .....shocking

Very disappointed with our visit today. Decided to call in for some food for the family (2 adults and 3 children 9, 7 and 1) but after ordering the meals we were made aware there are no highchairs. This meant my husband and me had to take it in turns walking with the baby so the other could eat their meal with the older children. What better way to say, 'young families not welcome', than by removing the high chairs! I have visited before and used a highchair so I presume this is a recent thing. We won't be visiting again. A real shame as we would rather support a local business.

I love this cafe. Staff are so welcoming and friendly, nothing is too much trouble. As soon as I walk in the girl starts my "cheese/onion , white bread, toasted sandwich 🥪". Always friendly atmosphere and a lot of customers are obviously regulars. Quite a few workmen use the cafe, and their breakfasts look amazing. I enjoy their coffee, always buy two.Pop in if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed.

This is one of the friendliest places to visit. The staff are lovely, the food is excellent, traditonal fayre and a great place to sit and mark my exam papers and do my school work. Corned Beef Hash and Hot Pork Sandwich are superb. 🖤🤍 Love it

Fantastic place always plenty to eat even early on a morning especially if you don't fancy a breakfast but they also do an amazing breakfast if you do fancy it

We have been here a few times now and never been disappointed. I can recommend the cheesecake, now I’ve had a lot of cheesecake in my time and this was the best I’ve had, homemade and perfect. The hot chocolate is not to be missed either. Basically, if you’re at Dragonville, it’s well worth dropping in for a snack or a coffee. Better than anywhere in the vicinity.

Great little cafe and convenient when shopping at Dragonville. Ordered 2 Yorkshire puddings wraps, one with stuffing and one without. Both delicious and lovely turkey meat inside and gravy £7 each. Quick service 👍🏼

Service was lovely by the young girls at the counter but was appalled by what I saw. I saw one of the older counter women pull some meat from a roast ham from the hot counter and put it in her mouth. She then used the same hand to pull away more meat or fat from the ham which in my opinion is extremely unhygienic. When I confronted the lady, she blatantly denied doing this. Unfortunately I will have to raise this with the council

Younger staff were pleasant however the family and manager who run the cafe were rude. I was denied tap water with my meal and told ‘we only sell bottled water’. I found this ridiculous at a licensed premises which also sells alcohol and it is quite frankly against the law to do this. Food was too hot to eat as been put in the microwave. Also for the price I expected better quality food rather than cheap sausages. Not the same as it used to be I won’t be back.

Always very good. Family run cafe with a good selection. Very friendly.

Chesney's is the best coffee shop in the area. Staff are wonderful.

I always love the food I get from there. They sell all sorts of savoury and sweet things. The staff and very professional and the interior decoration makes for a nice change from the bleak minimalist aesthetic of other chain establishments.

Nipped in for a bite to eat and a drink while Christmas 🎄 shopping. We had a coffee, hot choclate and and two of the yourkshire pudding wraps. The service was lovely and the team were very hospitable! Definitely a little hidden gem!

Really disappointing if I'm honest. It looks ok from the outside so we popped in instead of Gregg's nextdoor. Really over priced for tinned vegetables, the pork was too chewy to swallow apart from 2 mouthfuls. The coffee was very bitter from the machine, probably needed the filters changing or cheap granules if it was from a jar. The pork dinner might of been better if we'd came earlier.....but we ain't going back to chance it, £20 down the drain! Didn't even get a ' Goodbye ' like the others, must've seen what we left. I'm affraid Chesneys wasn't the one & only!!

Ordered a hot dog £3.50 ate the bread bun hotdog grey and tasteless absolutely shocking should be removed from menu

Came off the motorway for a short break, what a find! Food was excellent, good choices aswell as a good selection of cakes. Very efficient & friendly staff, quick service. Great stop off.

This place is a hidden gem. They are so friendly and welcoming. The americano and cappuccino were top notch, so much better than the big coffee chains. Haven't had any food yet but definitely will upon the next visit.

This place has such a nice atmosphere, really feels quite homely and welcoming. I had probably the best cheesecake I've ever had here before, too. All the cakes are fresh and the menu changes regularly enough to make every visit feel unique. Very much worth swinging by!

Another lovely lunch at Chesneys. The roast sandwich was done to perfection and the cream scone was beautiful. A very competitively priced family friendly spot with lovely food served quickly by friendly staff. Far better than a chain cafe any day. Thank you.

The cafe has elegant nostalgic interior design, decent coffee, and traditional british desserts. The staff are friendly and swift.

My sister and i do our weekly shop at tesco and pop over to Chesneys for our dinner every week. The atmasphere is so friendly and the staff are so welcomming and friendly we are on first name terms now Chesney calls us the double AAs as my name is ALICE and my sisters name is ANN. The food is fab we have not had anything that was not nice the service is great and with a smile.The whole family is so lovely . The home made apple and cherry pie are the best we have ever had.

Over priced. Small piece of old school cake £3, ordered a slice of chocolate cake and that was smaller than the old school cake also £3 and had no taste at all. Had to repeat my order 4 times in less than a minute. Cake, coffee and milkshake isnt hard to remember. I wont be returning.

Our first visit a few weeks ago was fine.......food good......tables not too busy........now.....tables busy.......not much social distancing.......ours was not cleaned after last customer, we cleaned it with anti-bacterial wipes. Staff not wearing masks...... Although the food was OK, we fear that Covid rules are too relaxed. We won’t go back.

Our coffee was served long before our food arrived and was finished before food arrived! Panini was too hot to enjoy and took ages to arrive even though the place was empty. Should offer a coffee refill service if they insist on serving drinks before food!

Bare basic menu. A pensioners café needs a revamp on menu to bring it into the 21st century.

Was in area and searched a place near to have a quick bite. Chose Chesneys really pleased we did. Service amazing lady was so friendly as was all staff. Hot roast sandwhich was red hot and jammed full. Was delicious and lovely coffee too. Definitely be back who needs breakfast at tiffany's x

Really disappointing. Went in to support the business during covid and ordered a plain jacket, tuna panini and coffee. I was charged £4.50 for a small jacket with butter in a box with no garnish or anything. The jacket was clearly old and didn't even fill me. My partners tuna panini was also awful, the tuna wasn't fresh and it smelt really fishy and the cheese was cheap. Unfortunately the coffee was also burnt and we threw it in the bin. Such a shame given the high reviews on here. My only reason for a two star is due to the friendly staff.

Turned up with mam using a wheelchair only one door opened so went to carry on shopping however there was a shout when I turned around there was a assistant saying I’ll get the ramp and then offered to help once in side all staff were very friendly and very helpful will definitely be going back

2 cafe snobs visited here. The most excellent pies and cakes. Cheesecake of that day was choc n orange, homemade on premises. Cherry pie DELICIOUS, took us right back to childhood - sour but sweet, with hint of vanilla. Staff are happy to banter. Forget Fenwick’s - cake, scones, pie are outstanding.

Popped in today for a cuppa and something sweet, the desserts all looked so delicious that we changed our minds several times... this wasn’t a problem to the staff they just joked about it. We had a mixture of hot and cold beverages and hot and cold desserts - all of them were excellent! The mint cheesecake was tasty yet not overpowering and the ginger pudding and custard was the best I’ve tasted. We will definitely be back soon! 👍

Very friendly nothing to much for them very family orientated

Being a small cafe wedged in the corner of the retail park it looks a bit at a disadvantage and I cant imagine a new Greggs next door helps at all BUT I went there for the first time ona cold and bleak rainy Saturday afternoon and it cheered me up.The place is clean and tidy, its not flash but the choices are good , the service is sparky and pleasant, and there are enough staff to keep the whole place ticking over efficiently.I had a fantastic hot turkey sandwich for £4.50 and could have had chips too - its a well I didnt as the sandwich was a big one, packed full of turkey breast meat, home made stuffing and gravy.I was so full it was all I could do to share a great ginger pudding and custard which sounded pricey at £4 but it was a massive portion of light as a feather pudding and delicious custardI had never been here before - but I will go again.

Me and my partner are regular visitors, the food is delicious,the cafe is always clean and the staff are so friendly.

Relaxing friendly coffee shop that serves very tasty food and hot coffees as exposed to Luke warm in some places the staff are very friendly and the place is spotless there's also a few tables outside to enjoy the sun

Wife and I had a breakfast and it is the best I have had for donkeys years and everything cooked exactly as requested coffee (latte) was perfect. Excellent staff and great service.

Lovely hot chocolate friendly staff so laid back and can be slow, wish they would clean tables when customers leave, people might probably remove their own trays but there's no where to put them.

Having visited several times before for a jacket potato during shopping trips at Belmont, I was very surprised with my last reception, or rather lack of it. If there is a queue somewhere, you recognise there will be a wait and decide whether you want to stay or not. When there is no queue and still no service there is a problem. A 'hello, I'll be with you shortly' would have gone some way to placate me, but not even a nod from staff to show they had noticed a customer waiting was rather disheartening. I wonder if they even noticed I had walked out.

Been several times now. Good choice of drinks, hot and cold, savouries and sweet treats. Pleasant staff and reasonable prices. Never been disappointed. 😊

Delicious coffee served by friendly staff decor makes it worth a visit

Called in for breakfast/brunch about 11-00 Monday.. It was quiet with three staff behind the counter. Stood for nearly five minutes, no one else waiting to be served and was totally ignored. I left without ordering or even being acknowledged by any of the staff.

Only one ‘full’ English Breakfast offering.. But at what point did the word ‘full’ mean no mushrooms, hash browns, scrambled eggs and black pudding? And to charge a fiver for 2 rashers of bacon, two sausages, 2 fried eggs, a tiny pot of beans and one slice of toast was ironically, quite hard to swallow! Especially when most ‘all you can eat’ places charge less! However, I can see the attraction if you’re looking for a quiet tea/coffee etc. The ambience was good, service was excellent and the cafe itself clean and with nice decor. Just don’t go there if, like me, you’re drawn in by google maps’ recommendation of a place for breakfast!
