Seasider Fish and Chips in West Dorset

Lovely fish and chips - we had the cod and it was very fresh! Batter was really good. Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere while waiting. Fairly easy to park.

Batter on the fish was soggy and the chips were cold. One person had faggots and they were dry. Some of the worst fish and chip we have ever had. They cook too many chips at once, the keeper is piled up and left open a lot of the time so I don’t know how they think they would keep hot. Also they are really disorganised you go in order and pay and then wait for the order to be made up, what’s the point if it’s not cooked to order. When we had some 2 years ago they were some of the best fish & chips we had ever had.

We were spending a few days in West Bay and were looking for some local fish and chips without the need to go to a restaurant. With excellent reviews and by recommendation we went S & E Fish and Chips Shop. Firstly a very pleasant, bright and clean with a small seated area and very pleasant staff. Unfortunately, the food did not meet the reviews. The fish, although well cooked, had soggy batter and the chips were mainly small, thin bits and few which were of standard size. Hopefully given the reviews and recommendations this was a one off, or maybe as it was early on but still may mean we would not revisit.

Without a doubt the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The queue outside tell you all you need to know. Cod and chips was a massive size well worth the money. Just watch the seagulls if you eat yours in the harbour 🤭

I honestly feel bad for forgetting about S&Es, visited yesterday to pick up some lovely fish and chips and a burger and some fish cakes. What a great family business with delicious food. The young person serving - I wish I had taken there name - was lovely and polite. Food piping hot, fresh and tasty. You can tell a lot of hard work goes into what they do and a lot of love. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Thank you :)

Having come to West Bay especially to go to S and E Having had really good fish and chips on a previous visit..I am sorry to say we were really disappointed. The staff were excellent but not so the food. Ditto previous comments on the chips. Nearly half were bits..not crispy..Rock hard and the remainder were not nice at all. Very dry and tasteless. Unfortunately the fish was also a problem. We both had the large fish and it was badly overcooked. The batter was very very dark brown..the fish dry and chewey. The very middle bit wasn't too bad. So disappointed after making special trip..not sure we would return.

We love S&E and collect fish and chips there once a month. The fish is always excellent and on this occasion it was fantastic again. It hurts me to say this but the chips weren’t up to the usual standard, they were dark and dry and unappetising. The people who run this place are lovely, engaging and work hard and I can’t give less than 5 stars (the fish is worth that every time). S&E will always be our first choice, just the chips this time weren’t good.

In West Bay on holiday and visiting family. Ordered for 6, staff were really helpful and able to take the order ahead and collect at specified time. Really great food - cod, haddock, pie and scampi. Portions are generous.
