Coffee took 20 mins to arrive. Hair in sugar bowl. Staff were rude. The food was bare minimum, over priced and overwhelming tang of vinegar. I had brunch with a friend, we ordered food at the same time and it arrived 10 mins apart.

Stopped by for a drink of Devon Cider and Vodka. Very good service, friendly chap at the bar. Nice little outside area, inside is nice too and toilets clean and easy to find. Didn’t get a chance to try food as we had already eaten!

Went for our evening meal on our last night in the area. Got a table straight away. However the food we received, although tasty, did not compare with the pictures on it website. Didn't like the fact that service charge was added to an already fairly expensive meal ( Don't think that the salad portion was worth £6 !!) It also seems that the staff were too busy chatting with their regulars at the bar.

We had two fantastic visits to Sea Monkey during our August holiday to Salcombe. Tom looked after us so well on both visits. On the first occasion for my mother's birthday we had superb tapas which was delicious and beautifully prepared (amazing steak and goats cheese dishes), and the children loved their pizzas. On the second visit the team were able to squeeze us in last minute and kept the kitchen open for some more delicious pizzas. We were also greeted after by chef Mark who was very welcoming. It's now our favourite place to dine in Salcombe - great for adults, families and kids - superb food and service. We can't wait to go back next year!

Went for dinner and was underwhelmed by the food as the portions for meats and fish were tiny vs the cost. Taste was average but fine if the portions were more generous or less expensive. Staff were lovely

Had dinner and was disappointed with the portion size of the mains vs the cost and we went to co-op to get more food. A third more food on the mains would have been okay. Service was friendly and efficient

Average food, very small portions even for tapas and limited drinks options available. The worst service I have ever experienced. A young waiter’s younger siblings chasing him around the restaurant when serving, the chef arguing with other costumers and when we asked to remove the optional service charge, we were approached by the manager and her note pad asked to explain and justify why we wanted to remove it. Overall very poor experience and we will not be returning.

Really not a good experience! Initial welcome was good but staff a bit on rude side. Seats upstairs very uncomfortable old metal seats so had to find a cushion to sit on. Alcohol free option consisted of just 1 lager or soft drinks. No Salcombe Gin of offer! Tapas was not what I would call tapas but more like prawns from a packet on lettuce with a a chilli kick & meatballs were just meatballs in chopped tomato.. French fries were fine but when £27 added for service charge for a table of eight really was a nail in the coffin & will not be returning even though pizzas were apparently quite good.

Although the atmosphere was fun, the food was average, the portions tiny and the prices too high. We spent £50 a head and had to go home and raid the fridge

Went for an easy lunch here with two small children and a dog. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, even though it was slightly before lunch service started (12:00) they tried hard to find options that were dairy free from the breakfast and deli menus and were so lovely. Salads were delicious, can’t fault anything. Top marks. Watch out for the seagulls if you’re sitting outside, they might not know whether you’ve really finished…!

We had a comically awful experience in this restaurant (and judging by their comments so did the table next to us!) I believe this restaurant is excellent at lunchtime, however the evening offering is confused and poorly executed, and the service is really quite bizarre. We arrived for our table booked at 8pm to be told we were expected at 730, however I could see in the reservation book that we were booked in at 8pm. After a few minutes of confusion we were shown to our table. The tapas menu sounded good, so we decided to order a few dishes from this and a pizza to share. The tapas itself was mixed, 3 very average crab balls the size of gobstoppers for £12 was not good value but tasted ok. The pork belly was dry and claggy, not sure how they managed to make the fattiest cut of meat dry but I suspect it had been sitting around for a while. The 'posh' chips were swimming in fat and really quite unpleasant but on the positive side there was a delicious whipped goats cheese dish which we all liked. The pizza was grim. One of our party commented that it tasted like a frozen pizza from the Co-op down the road and I have to say I agreed as the crust was dried out and biscuity and the pepperoni was very low grade. Nothing was inedible, but the service was definitely unpalatable. One of my friends hates coriander and asked for the waitress to check with the chef if anything other than the crab balls had coriander in or with them, she didn't come back so we assumed he was safe but virtually every dish was slathered in coriander oil. We asked the waitress why she hadn't told us but we were met with a sullen glare and no response. All the tapas dishes arrived at once. When we were asked how things were I mentioned that we were surprised as tapas always comes out gradually, to which the response was 'yeah, abroad maybe' and then when we said no, in the UK, a hasty 'we try to do things differently' was accompanied by a further glare or two. It was also impossible to get the attention of the waitresses most of the time despite the restaurant being almost empty. The whole experience was relatively amusing in a Fawlty Towers way but we will not be returning in the evening!

One of the best meals we've had in a while. As a couple we were looking for somewhere to eat last minute and we came across this place passing by. It seemed a fairly busy inside but luckily we managed to get a table. So glad we did. As the food was amazing and the service was top notch. I can’t believe to see why some people here so negatively rated this Sea Monkey tapas bar. It’s a hidden gem to my liking! We had 5 tapas dishes which were so delicious. The portion sizes were good and the price was reasonable for the food quality you were getting. If you want a really cheap night out then this is not for you, you definitely get what you pay for here. The restaurant is tucked away and can be difficult to find unless you know its there. There is a nice ambience inside with a great music and I would definitely return if we are coming back to the Salcombe next time. I’d recommend the yummy prawns, mackerel and battered fried vegetables to start with, however there are many more delicious dishes to tantalise your taste buds in their menus.

Really lovely tasty fresh food. Something different in Salcombe to the standard burger and fish and chips served in the local pubs which have lost their way over the years. Recommend you try it for an evening of flavoursome food, great wine and a great atmosphere.

I loved my lunch visit to this place, though I believe that the name is Sea Monkey Tapas? This place doesn’t technically serve tapas, as far as I could see, it’s mostly sandwiches, pasties and other lunch foods. I believe that breakfast options are also available. That being said, it’s a lovely cafe and the food we had was lovely. Fresh, large portions and really very tasty. There was no paper menu offered and reading from the chalk signs was a bit confusing and difficult. There is also a selection of packaged food items to buy, such as coffee and other deli type goods. We didn’t pick anything up on our visit though. The staff were very friendly, if slightly slow to serve / bring items to the table. Everything looked very clean and there is a good amount of seating here. There is also a lovely outdoor area, with estuary views. This would be lovely in the summer.

Went for dinner a couple of days ago and sadly it was nowhere as near as good as the daytime food. We have eaten here many times during the day and the food has been excellent. The evening food is tapas and in my opinion it was not good at all and more like fast food - not well presented and very fatty. The icing on the cake was the bill which was excessive even before the 12.5% service charge. Sadly I won’t be going back in the evening.

Overpriced and tiny portions. Went to Sea Monkey Tapas for dinner and have to say it was very disappointing, will not be going back. Such a shame as there are loads of fantastic places to eat in Salcombe, unfortunately this is not one of those places. Appreciate this is a tapas place but the portion sizes are almost insulting. Felt as if I’d been scammed.

Sea monkey tapas: Very small portions and very poor value for money, cocktails £15 and a plate of beef tapas for £12 for 4 slices of tiny pieces of beef which was incredibly disappointing.

My best friend was visiting for her birthday and I asked her where she wanted to go and she said "The Stars." I wasn't convinced it was the best decision as how could we have topped the great time we had there in 2023?? But it was her choice, and so I dutifully booked and told the online form it was for her birthday. Being hard to please, I held my breath as we walked in, praying we would not be disappointed, but there was our table looking lovely. Happy birthday banners waiting for our arrival, and then just as last year, a mini bottle of Prosecco as the birthday girl sat down. So already we were happy and enjoying the occasion. Crazily, the waitress remembered us from last year and was so very welcoming and charming. Our food order was taken, with the birthday girl asking for a slight alteration to hers with no problem at all. Unfortunately, what I wanted was not on the menu (as it had been when I looked online), but that was no bother as the chef when asked was able to provide me with my request! Great stuff!! We enjoyed our food and our purchased full-size bottle of bubbles and the very attentive interactive staff. They really made us both feel special and as if we frequent the place regularly, which is truly a wonderful thing. We also got a tasty birthday pudding, which was very unexpected and very much appreciated. We saw the staff give great attention to every table that night, not just us. They are all a credit to this restaurant, and I hope they receive recognition from higher management for their hard work and going the extra mile for guests. We've booked in for next November's birthday already and will definitely be coming back again in between, now we know its the same team and the service is consistently high. Thank you guys for a lovely birthday evening 🎂 🥳

What a blinder. Superb music, staff sublime, food most excellent( and within 15 minutes of ordering), don’t know about you but I think the days of ordering “ a meal” are done. My wife and I now go to an establishment and keep ordering the starters. We’re done with massive meals.

Dinner measly and was left feeling rather hungry. For the price (£17) I expected a bit more than a postage stamp sized meal (if you can call it that). It was tasty, but I won't be returning.

We went to the Regal today. The first time as a family. 2 adults 2 kids. I have been several times over the years but since moving away and becoming a wife and mother. We all had a great time. Arriving at dinner time for a fews games of pool with our children and a drink. Staff were found to be warm, pleasant and friendly. Just as I remembered from 15 years ago. Love this pub. Enjoyed telling my family my past memories of days and nights out here
