Asked to speak to the manager after an appalling meal, plates came up cold, lager was flat, sheek kebab which was meant to be grilled in a tandoori, was just microwaved mush, mixed vegetable bhaji had very under cooked hard veg, chicken Jalfrezi was amateurish and very unappealing, naan bread cold and not white, puffy and slightly blackened from the tandoor, do they actually have one? Fish dish covered in green slime and to top off such an expensive meal, cheap paper serviettes! Non Indian manager was interested to hear my comments but ultimately dismissive as so many of their customers say the food is so good ! 😅

Sea Spice offers a delightful culinary experience with standout dishes like the Paneer Makhanwala, Paneer Achari, and Dhal. The Paneer Makhanwala is a creamy delight, with rich tomato gravy and perfectly spiced paneer. The Paneer Achari brings a tangy, bold flavor with its achari spices, making each bite a burst of taste with some of the softest paneer pieces i have ever had!. The Dhal is simply exceptional, creamy, and full of rich, comforting spices. Sea Spice truly excels in delivering authentic and memorable Indian cuisine.

My sister & I had a meal here tonight, & it was sublime! I've travelled quite a bit & this was up there with the curries I've eaten abroad. My sister had the chicken tikka masala.. I know its not strictly an Indian dish, but it was so flavoursome, I had the lamb biryani, equally delicious 😋. I also had fish pakora & we had peshwari naan...its was all so good! Definitely recommend. The staff were very friendly as well, nothing was too much trouble. If you're in Aldeburgh, you should give it a try.

I’ve never had to leave a restaurant before the food arrives. The restaurant is understaffed. There was no gas in the drinks and didn’t get new drinks for 45 mins. Our order was not put through correctly so no food arrived and after 1 hour 15 minutes we left as could not wait any longer. Our waiter was understanding and apologetic but the meal was still a disaster.

Second time here and probably won’t rush back. The food was ok, but the service somewhat let it down. Firstly they couldn’t find our booking at all, to then see that they had put it in 15 mins later than booked (online). We were traipsed through to the bar and as soon as we got a drink, we’re traipsed back again. Service was then very slow, difficult to get eye contact with waiting staff, and didn’t even get offered a dessert. Distinctly below average experience to that which we had before. Big shame as could be amazing given the location, so I hope management get to grips with training.

Whoever owns/manages this place has extreme delusions of grandeur. The starters were embarrassingly bad; the paneer had less flavour than a grilled piece of halloumi, the Bhajis were dry and greasy, the cauliflower tasted like it came out of a hospital ward and the seekh kebab was anaemic. Its disgraceful to think that these 3 miserly pieces of what appeared to be microwaved or reheated seekh kebab were charged at nine pound a portion. The only glimmer of meal that my meal had were the mains, the chicken curry was tasty, however the portion was far too small and the chicken wasn’t moist, it was rather tough and chewy to the bite. It definitely wasn’t worthy of its sixteen pound price tag. The only part of the meal I can’t fault were the cocktails. They were exceptional and fully justified their price tag. Our booking for the table was booked in advance for ten people, upon arriving at the restaurant we were told to sit in two separate booths. After explaining to the waiter that the booking was made for my grandmothers birthday the servers joined four tables for parties of two together half heartedly and instructed people in my group to sit on the end of the long table they had made for us. The table felt extremely crammed to eat on and wasn’t a comfortable dining experience. Throughout no point in the evening were we asked how our meal was by a server. The manager of the restaurant seriously need to reevaluate their vocation as they quite clearly lack the ability to run a commendable service. No I would not recommend this restaurant. One star is for the food being eddible, another for the taste of the curry, and lastly one for the cocktails. No stars awarded for the quality or value for money and likewise for the attentiveness and consideration of the staff that overbooked the restaurant and didn’t take proper care of us despite the fact our party of ten brought in four hundred pounds for them that evening.

The restaurant looks very good and the service was excellent, but the food was not at a good standard. The scallops were ruined, the tandoori chicken way below our local takeaway standard and the chicken tikka Marsalla not a good sauce and the chicken served in huge lumps and looked as well as tasted unappetizing. The peshwari nan and Lamb Samosa’s however were excellent. We have eaten India Food all over the world including the far reaches of India. This was the 2nd worst we have ever had. The worst being Newport New England.

We called on Saturday for a takeaway but they were too busy so weren’t doing them, so had on on Sunday instead (to which we thought: ah great that shows they’re priority is quality not quantity). The only think we can imagine is that the head chef was nit working, because the food was worse than your average takeaway. We were sooo excited to try the muntjac vindaloo, expecting to get the milk out the fridge, and whilst the meat was nice and soft, the curry sauce had very little flavour and certainly zero spice. In fact the samosa was spicier. The butter chicken.. usually a safe choice.. tasted just like Heinz cream of tomato soup. The pilau rice may as well have been from Tesco. The mushroom dish was actually quite nice, but that was about it. The rest was bland and average. Such a shame especially given all the good reviews.

Loved this place. We started with a mosaic IPA and a generously poured Old Fashioned. The starters of lamb seekh kebab and paneer were good, though could have used a bit of side salad and more seasoning on the paneer. But the mains were a highlight. Highly recommended the fish curry and saag aloo. Couldn't finish it all so took it home. Lovely stuff. Pricey, but worth it for the lovely surroundings.

The place was so nice. We have ordered Lamb biriyani, King prawns, Chicken korma, vegetable samosa and steamed rice. Thr biriyani had authentic Indian flavour(more south indian) with accurate amount of spices and the taste were exactly matching the indian style of food. The lamb pieces were properly boiled in biriyani. Chicken Korma has good amount of spiciness. If you wanna try authentic Indian food this place is a go and they do have better taste Compared to the Indian restaurants in UK.

AMAZING! Amazing food, amazing atmosphere and most importantly amazing staff! Special shout out to Amy, we have been here four times in the last six months and every time have had such a good experience. Having missed out on our tenth wedding anniversary (and my parents 60th) in 2020, we couldn't wait to make up for it, returning to the same place we tied the knot - albeit a different offering now - and we couldn't have wished for a better evening. Amy was so attentive, and the complimentary bubbles when we were shown to our table was an extra nice touch and really made our night that much more special. As I say, have been four times in the last six months or so and everything has always been consistent for us - I would highly recommend Sea Spice if you want something a little bit more special than your average Indian Restaurant, because it is way above that!

Very average curry, but in a nice place, so it's over-priced to suit the setting. Family of 5 with two eating off the kid's menu and it was £100. My fish curry was not as nice as I'd hoped a £13 dish would be. The fish didn't seem fresh, which is surprising for a place which is on the beach next to where the fishermen sell their catch each day

Deeply frustrating. Promotes their takeaway option but when you call to order they just say they’re too busy and not offering that service that evening, really disappointing as had been excited to try it. There’s already incredibly limited options for food to take away of an evening in Aldeburgh and so it’s immensely frustrating to be repeatedly disappointed like this, don’t offer it as a service if they can’t realistically provide it.

This is a resturant I have wanted to visit for a long time. When it opened the Sunday Times did a story on it and how the owner was to use local seafood and produce in an Indian food way. He also intended to have a small menu as opposed to the usual mad oversized selections at your usual Curry House. After eating at the ‘Spice’ last night I am glad to report that some years later that unique plan is still in place. On arrival myself, the lady and a couple of her family were seated in a very airy spacious restaurant which looked nothing like the standard Indian eatery, very English with no dodgy music! On the food, I had brilliant Peppered Scallops in a great onion/tomato sauce to start with other dishes chosen was a Vegetable Samosa and the Tandoori Lamb Chops. The main course I went for was the Braised Suffolk Lamb Shank with a flavoursome sauce that I asked to be served Madras heat. It was great!Other choices eaten were, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Korma and Chicken Malai Kebab, nice sides, rice and breads with a special mention for my personal favourite vegetable dish, the Tadka Daal which was the best I’ve had. All in all this was a really great Indian meal, staff were friendly and attentive, I will be going back.

Unfortunately this is not a good review. The setting is beautiful, previous reviews very good but it was disappointing to say the least. The staff were pleasant, we ordered our food and when it was delivered that was the last we saw of any waiters. We wanted to order more drinks and a bottle of wine with out meal but the service got progressively worse throughout the evening which was a shame. Mid way through the meal my girlfriend left the restaurant feeling extremely unwell and was unfortunately very nauseous and sick. I went to the desk to request the bill to leave in a hurry and then waited a further 15 minutes before losing my patience waiting for the bill and paying at the till. I am not normally one to complain as I have worked in hospitality for a number of years, but it was more then a coincidence that we both fell extremely ill shortly after and during eating, it was an extremely unpleasant evening (to spare you the details). I rang the following morning to let the restaurant know we were both extremely ill which was met with apologies and the promise they would follow up. I would describe their response slightly defensive, letting us know that nobody else had fallen ill that night. I would have expected perhaps a little more remorse which was a huge shame. We have not heard back from them since which brings me to write this review. It was extremely disappointing both the meal and the way our complaint/ experience was handled. We were only away for a couple of nights and this unfortunately did spoil our trip, traveling home feeling rather queasy.

Without a shadow of the doubt, the poorest Indian we have ever been too! All meals are pre-cooked and microwaved or boiled in the bag. This is not proper Indian food! We got given plates before our meal arrived, and by the time our meal came our plates were stone cold, so halfway through the meal our food was stone cold- disgusting. £19 spent on 2 and a bit starters, and one of them was four pieces of fried chicken, with no salad or sauce, just a silly piece of lemon to make it look bog standard presentable. And as for the curries, the lamb shank was a joke and was worth more like £5 than £20. Overall, not very impressed, people that are impressed by this restaurant have no idea what true Indian cuisine is and should really think about going elsewhere!

Food is ok but expensive. Lamb chops were pre cooked and so overdone when they arrived (but we’re tasty). Dayboat lobster was lobster in scrambled duck egg which was not explained and not a good idea. Rest of food was a tad above what you’d find in a standard Indian with a decent tandoor oven. The room is lovely. 3 of the 4 beers listed on the rather unfancily-named ‘bucket’ deal (buy 4 bottles of craft beer for £12) we’re not available. And there was no bucket. Service was chaotic. Too many people, too few knowing what they’re doing. And the girl on the front desk making sure we’re wearing masks did it with such little charm that she should be working in security not hospitality. £130 for three of us. Not an Indian in sight, but then they’re few and far between in this part of the world. If these were the teething problems of a restaurant that had just opened, I’d understand. But Sea Spice has been open a while know. It’s baffling it hasn’t ironed out these problems by now. I should add that they gave us one menu, mounted in plastic, for three people. Not the standard disposable paper based ones that every other restaurant seems to be using during Covid. Surely they can find a way to get guests one menu each??

There are times when only a curry will do. And this was one of these times. And it **did**! Superb service. Delicious dishes. And a view through the window of the North Sea under a broiling sky. Could not have been bettered. Any regrets? Just one - that it was the last day of our trip to Aldeburgh. There were a few dishes in the menu that I’d have liked to sample the Malambar fish curry, for example). Oh well. Next time...

This was our first post covid lockdown venture into a restaurant. I had heard some good reviews on the place so wanted to give it a try. In terms of looking after customers wellbeing I think they coped quite well, I felt no anxiety being there albeit I visited shortly after they opened and there was only one other party in the restaurant. Service was good and pragmatic with different staff delegated with specific roles. All were masked. The menu I felt was limited, but such is the nature of the covid beast it places restrictions on many aspects of life including variety. However there was something to suit most tastes. The food was good although the fish curry was difficult to judge in terms of the quality of the fish used.

Overly salted food and bad covid practice’s with no real clear instructions what to do or not do.We ordered our food and it was placed on our table in about 1 minute 20 seconds and the quality was very poor.Wouldn’t visit again sadly it was a very poor experience, I would have complained at the time but it was late and I really just wanted to go home.

This cannot call itself an indian restaurant. Clearly the hotel have spotted a gap in the market in Aldeburgh but what they provide here is faux indian food. Although essentially edible, the food is really very bland, like an english chefs version of indian food. Serving popadoms without the standard lime pickle or salad onions, but with what was clearly tomato soup as a dip was just ridiculous. The Biryani was mostly rice with zero vegetables and the lamb shank was tender but smothered in a bland tasteless sauce that they also used to drown the scallops starter I had. To make matters worse this place isnt cheap either. It's a shame as the service was prompt polite and friendly and the decor was nice. But it cannot hide the fact I feel completely defrauded, this is the Indian I'd expect on a cross channel ferry.

We were looking forward to having an Indian on our holiday. Firstly the menu was very restricted and seemed less that published on the web pages. We were put in a room by the bar despite booking. We love our Indian food and expected something special. It was not. They are clearly doing something which they consider to be different to set them apart. Not for us.

Four of us booked in for a Friday evening dinner. The service was outstanding and efficient and the food was excellent and so unique. The combination of delicious fish and seafood with an Indian twist makes this restaurant really special. We would love to return.

When we arrived to the Sea Spice restaraunt we were told that we had been seated in the Hotels restaraunt area (not sure of the reason...?). Whilst I can't compare what it was like with Sea Spice itself, the restaraunt lacked atmosphere and it definitely felt like we were eating in a hotel and not an authentic Indian restaurant, which was a shame. I dont know whether this is a thing they do regularly, but we would have appreciated being informed at booking. The food is tasty, although lacked any effort in presentation. The chefs "signature" sharing lamb shank was delicious, but hardly a sharing dish when you get only a few mouthfuls of lamb each. Definitely recommend ordering more than you think you'll need! The service was slow (but perhaps to be expected with the new COVID regulations) but none of the staff showed any interest in our enjoyment of our meal/experience. The plates from the previous course was left on our table, TWICE! When the wrong starters were brought to us, there was no apology or effort to remedy the situation by the member of staff, he simply took the plates away and we waited for another 10 minutes for the correct ones to arrive! The layout of the hotel restaruant meant that we were also able to see/hear other people receive incorrect meals or wait for long periods without any staff interaction.I think the restaraunt had over stretched itself with bookings and unfortunately, it really showed! If looking to eat in Aldeburgh, perhaps try one of the many other nice places to eat!

We came across This restaurant by chance and Managed to book in for a Friday evening. We weren’t disappointed. My lobster starter was beautiful and caught locally. The samosas my husband choose were also really flavoursome. Our main courses arrived fairly quickly and both were full of flavour and not over-spiced. Staff were all very attentive and wore masks as well as ensuring that all tables were well spaced and cleaned after every customer. What a lovely evening

Well constructed menu in that not a full a la carte high street Indian. Tandoori prawn starter good. Lamb Rogon good. We were warned that the biryanis were dry in that they were served with raita. No side curry was available. Good food though.

Went here in Sept 2019, and I'm sorry to say I wish we hadn't bothered, 'trendy' beaten copper jugs to serve the beer, didn't work at all, average service, and honestly the Muntjac Vindaloo, was akin to having a bowl of Heinz Mulligatawny soup, with some meat in it the only thing 'deerlike' was the cost. I have worked in London on and off for many years, and have visited many such establishments over the years, and I wouldn't go back there.

Menu looked interesting but the dishes which should have been in a tandoori oven obviously hadn't. The lamb chops and the prawn starters had been coated but they didn't have the tandoori taste Staff were friendly and I know it was a Wednesday evening on February but we will not be rushing back as we have had better more interesting dishes elsewhere
