Sea Lanes Brighton, the spot where relaxation meets reality. Dip your toes into the UK's first National Open Water Swimming Centre, enjoy yoga on the beach, or paddle your way to a zen state… that is, until you park. At £5.80 an hour, the parking meter deserves its own workout routine! The heated pool is 50 meters long, perfect for swimming off the shock of premium parking. But hey, the good vibes, sandy toes, and chance to channel your inner mermaid make it all worth it. Just don't let Shadow near the parking receipt—it might become his new chew toy!

My colleague and I hired The Clubhouse space for our recent Reels Made Easy workshop. It was absolutely perfect! The room is stylish, very well equipped (the TV screen is massive and worked brilliantly for our presentation) and has stunning views of the pool and beach. Lynette and her team were fantastic hosts and made sure we had everything we needed before the event. They also set the room up for us in the required formation beforehand, which was very kind. Parking was easy for our attendees and everyone ordered lovely teas, coffees and snacks from Fika. It is extremely good value and we would highly recommend it to anyone for their events. We will definitely be booking the room again for future events. Thank you Sea Lanes.

The temperature of racing swimming pools is typically kept between 25°C and 28°C (77°F to 82°F), as recommended by World Aquatics (formerly FINA). This range helps maintain optimal performance, preventing overheating while ensuring muscles stay warm to reduce the risk of injury. 20 C is cold!!!!

Shower cubicles with lovely hot water. Plenty of changing cubicles and the layout was good . If I had to find a negativity I would say that I would have liked the glass around the pool to be cleaner/ clearer so I could see the sea better when I was swimming. Realistically though someone would have to be on permanent cleaning duty to sustain the cleanliness so I appreciate it's not feasible really. Thanks for a lovely experience It was a proper treat.

It’s a fantastic facility for lane swimmers and people training for open water swimming. I quite like the fact that it’s small and no frills as you literally go from the door to changing rooms to pool over a short distance. It’s not for everyone for sure, as the water is literally the same temperature roughly as the warmest your Cold tap at home gets in summer and it’s not a leisure pool. It’s not cheap but then I suppose they need to get a return on the investment of building the thing and it’s not unaffordable at £55 a month. That’s one meal out for two these days, I don’t understand the reviews saying that the staff are not friendly. They are super friendly and make you feel welcome and appreciated, from my experience.

Sea Lanes in Brighton is a great spot for a swim right by the beach. The 50-meter heated pool is perfect for both serious swimmers and anyone just looking to take a dip, and you get awesome views of the coastline while you’re at it. It’s got a chilled, beachy vibe with yoga classes and food stalls nearby if you want to make a day of it. It can get busy on weekends, but overall, it’s a cool place to relax, get some laps in, or just enjoy the seafront. Plus, the beach is right there if you want to switch it up!

I wanted so much to like this place. The concept and setting are on point. Swimming with views of the sea feels pretty special. But the place is let down by poor execution. It feels a bit like a temporary facility for one of those summer pop-up efforts. The pool is made from paddling pool material, and is dirty. I was there first thing in the morning, and counted half a dozen plasters in the pool that must have fallen off people and not been cleaned away since the previous day. The changing facilities also leave much to be desired - cheap fixtures and fittings, horrid harsh lighting, heating vents already fringed with dust, just two hairdryers crammed together in a tiny corner with two mirrors so close together you’d be bashing into the person next to you if you were both trying to do your makeup at the same time. If this was a municipal facility with prices to match it might all be more understandable, but at eleven quid for a swim I expected more.. And frustrating because it could have been so much better with just a bit more investment and - more importantly - thought. Decent lighting, loo seats and coat hooks don’t cost much in the scheme of things. If this place aspires to be taken seriously as the national centre for open water swimming it really needs to up its game.

The pool was 18.5c which was plenty cold enough for me. I wore a rashie which did the trick, after two lengths the water was lovely. I’m bald but they still want you to wear a cap, they were kind enough to give me one at the door. Being your own padlock. The lanes are not very wide but wide enough to have no issues at all. If I lived closer I’d be here all the time! 10/10 would recommend.

The experience of swimming on the beach, watching the sea roll in, with Volks Electric Railway running by and the pier in the background cannot be beaten for swimming views! Full marks for this. However, as others have noted, the South Downs app is a faff (good for swiping in at the centre, abysmal to register with and almost put us off booking), the lanes are slightly too narrow for a comfortable clockwise experience (especially doing breaststroke), the pool is 19° which is fine if you bring swim socks/gloves etc, you MUST wear a hat, provide a padlock for the lockers, and remove your shoes as soon as you enter the changing rooms (which means using the unisex toilets barefoot...eww). All of the above means that Sea Lanes really isn't going to be accessible to the casual swimmer visiting Brighton. Maybe that's the intention? Nevertheless, despite all of the above, the swim itself is well worth it!

The Sea Lanes and surrounding event spaces and restaurants is such a great addition to the previously underused space on Madeira Drive. Admission is £11 for an hours swim, and the pool itself is modern, with different swimming speed lanes, and nice facilities making good use of recycled materials. It is a heated pool, with the temperature around 19-20°C 🌡️ in the winter months - which can be chilly but is totally fine after a couple of lengths. It's worth noting that you are required to have a swimming cap, but if you don't have one, can purchase a nice branded one for £5. Small combination padlocks are also needed for lockers 🔐 A great pool in a nice location and has nice food options to top up on 'fuel' afterwards 🍽️

Very clean surrounds and changing areas and staff are welcoming but unobtrusive. A few tips: Bring your own padlock and key for the lockers, or there are small wire cages outside in sight of the pool for small items. The changing areas are unisex with lockable individual cubicles. Very clean. Shoes should be removed at the door. All pool users must wear swim caps. I booked on the first occasion but not the second - was welcomed both times and there was plenty of room to swim. The pool is divided into several lanes (slow/medium/fast) according to swim speed. There are warm showers in the changing rooms and both warm and cold showers poolside. I asked the lifeguard if it was ok to take photographs. It is. As always I blur photos of other pool users outside my own family. There is a cafe next to the pool but unfortunately I didn’t have the time to try it.

Only issue was parking, as is always the case in Brighton. I went on Friday at 6pm and there are lots of spaces on Madeira Drive, which is right outside the pool, but they were all full, so you have to be lucky to get a space really. If you get anxious about parking/travelling I would recommend leaving at least 20 mins for parking time. We had to drive up and round the road a few times to get a space (appreciate it was peak time!), and when we did find a space, it was £4.50 for an hour.

I’ve been going to the sea lanes pool since late june and so far I like it. For a one off swim it is a little pricey but the membership is really reasonable at £50 a month and I can go as much as I want. It also stays open pretty late the last slot being usually 8ish. It’s so glorious when the sun is setting in the evening and I tend to get a lane to myself. The pool is quite cold for a heated pool especially if it’s not nice weather which is a shame as it’s not going to be the nicest in the winter and I don’t really want to have to get in an out of a wetsuit every evening :( The changing rooms were a little unkept to start with but for a new pool things aren’t going to be perfect straight away and I’ve found more recently it’s been well cleaned and maintained. I do wish that it had a swimming costume spin dryer in there as I go most evenings my costume would dry off easier and wouldn’t make my bag all wet and would prolong me having to get another costume as soon- the joys of swimming lol. The showers are nice and warm and plenty of lockers on the pool side and in changing room. It would be great if they sold bottles of water too as sometimes I forget my bottle and I don’t really want to get in an out to use the water fountain especially if it’s a windy cold day. The sign up for the membership was a little faffy but once your signed up to the app and membership it’s really easy to book even at short notice. You can see how busy it is too which is great. Overall I really do enjoy this pool and it’s a lot nicer than others in Brighton - it just needs to be a bit warmer and then it would be almost perfect all year round. :)

I really wanted to love this pool, but just didn't enjoy it at all. - The process to sign up for the app was arduous and asking way too many questions. There was no option to just buy at the counter as far as I know. - The pool was uncomfortably COLD. It would have been good to be warned of this upon booking. I could only swim a few laps and had to leave early. I assumed it would be heated as is the default for most public pools - It is over-priced at £11 for a casual swim - the lanes are narrow - the alternating direction thing in each lane seems really stupid (I'm from Australia and I know it's common in the UK ..but still..why?) - you need a padlock to lock the lockers. If they are going to charge a premium price, at lease have automatic PIN or key lockers and not create an extra nuisance (and environmental wastage) for every customer to have to go and buy a padlock that suits your lockers. - the changerooms are very drab grey - the reception vibe feels a bit corporatey

I'm so disapointed in this pool.. No thought has gone into disabled /slow swimmers.. For a start, there is no disabled concession, which is shocking. No seat to sit on when I get out of the pool. But the worst thing was the slow lane is too narrow to do breast stroke.. There were only 5 people in the lane but it was impossible to swim breast stroke without bumping into people.. I had to swim with one arm under the rope and it was so uncomfortable, .. I'm sure they re wide enough for front crawl but not breast stroke, The slow lane should be double size as breast stroke needs a wider lane, I'm gutted as I was so looking forward to going. . It is not financially or logistically geared up for slower swimmers with a disability, .. It does have as disabled changing room, but it looked like an NHS hospital changing room, which is horrible,,. they could haver made it a tad less clinical. .. Most disabled people on disability benefits cannot afford £11 per hour, The receptionist was very unfriendly which was shocking, The setting was beautiful though, and I like how the fence is clear so the sea is visible,

I really want to love this pool. The position is great, facilities taking time to bed in, but compared to other pools, top notch. The problem is the water temperature. I swim there 3 times a week since it opened, and when it’s peak summer heat (water around 25degC) it’s lovely. But when it’s at its target temp of 19deg, it’s just too cold and I’m going to resign my membership after the summer. Swimming when it’s that cold without a wetsuit is no fun, and who wants to get in and out of a wetsuit 3 times a week all year round. If it was 24deg like London Fields and other lidos, it would be perfect.

Great amenity, lovely experience. Water has been between 19° and 22° the times I have been. It is clean and fresh, and I felt great afterwards. Swimming is in lanes, but there is a range of abilities with two slow lanes in operation when I visited - that's defined as more than 2 minutes for 50 meters. Staff are friendly and helpful. Changing rooms are modern and clean enough, with hot showers and hair dryers. There are indoor lockers and outdoor cages, both need you to bring your own padlock if you want to lock them. Next door there is a cafe for post-swim tea !

Visiting from Ireland and went to Sea Lanes. Everyone was very welcoming. Real community atmosphere. I didn’t book, just arrived early and paid at reception. You didn’t have to be a pro swimmer to use this facility. No judgment if you were swimming slower or had to stop/rest. Swim lanes were wide enough for two swimmers to pass. Changing rooms were great, hair dryer was a plus! Loved the storage lockers by the pool. Hot and cold showers available. Pool water was cold but great experience. I absolutely loved it. Would be great if suncream was sold at the reception, with my irish skin I was burnt.

Perfect for open water swimming training. Also easy to combine with a sea swim too with easy access and storage. People complaining about the lower than normal temperatures for a pool are missing the point that it's an open water training centre. If the pool temperature was too high it wouldn't be appropriate for open water training as it can take months for the body to adjust to lower temperatures. Open water swimming is cold and often difficult, so the training centre should be too. I love that the wind hits the surface of the pool and makes waves! The 50m pool length is fantastic too as you can build up long distance in training without really thinking about it. If you want warm pools, inflatables and slides then head somewhere else - this is an open water training centre and very good at that. Staff are friendly and helpful too.

Lots of reviews complaining about the cold temperature, this is exactly the reason I love this pool. I can’t recommend enough a early morning swim in a excellent cool water outdoor pool, perfect way to start the day. And remember… Cold water is scientifically proven to raise dopamine by 250% So swimming in this pool is great for your mental and physical health 👍👍

Food was fantastic - me and my partner went for my birthday breakfast the other day. We ordered the French toast and the breakfast muffin - both came reasonably fast and tasted amazing. Everything was clean and presented well. Little bit on the pricier side but definetly worth it.

Very nice pub for having an high quality hamburger. There’s the possibility to get a lunch deal for only 10 pounds including hamburger, chips and a soft drink. Very good homemade lemonade! I appreciated a lot the chips, made with fresh potatoes and perfectly fried. Very gentle service as well. SUGGESTED!!
