Came to visit to celebrate a birthday within my family and had very high expectations. The hotel itself and hotel staff met these expectations, unfortunately this is where the positives end. The restaurant was freezing and we had to keep our coats of after being seated. When ordering drinks several members of our party noticed dirty plates and glasses, they were covered in hair and marks. We were then informed the wine on the printed menu was no longer available, this was understandable as things do go out of stock however for a restaurant which presents itself to be so high quality we expected better. We were then informed the main ordered by half our party was not available. We expressed our disappointment as this could have been shared before orders were placed, as the (already very limited) menu now didn’t accommodate to the dietary needs of most of our party. We decided to leave the restaurant, much to our disappointment, and had no option but to walk across the city centre with elderly family members to find somewhere else to eat. On leaving we were informed by the manager we would be charged for a drink which never arrived and a bottle of wine which wasn’t touched. After speaking to other customers on our way out we found others had returned their meal 3 times within one sitting, adding to our disappointment. Staff members explained that they had had a busy few days, serving as an excuse as to our experience, however this simply suggested they were aware of the quality of service that we would receive and still decided not to inform us and seat a party of 7 which they clearly couldn’t handle. The whole experience was unacceptable.

We (family of 4, girl/boy 10/8yrs) came for dinner after visiting Cadbury World and found that, in error, we had the booking done for the previous day without us noticing! Clearly my fault, but Erina worked hard to accommodate us on the evening still, which we were very grateful for, also given we had a long journey to Birmingham and were really looking forward to dinner in a quiet spot. The food was wonderful. The steaks were spot on and we were very pleased also with the children meal’s choices. Portions were perfect size – not too large not too small. There was nothing left on the plate incl the desserts – we were very happy! Erina and the staff were very friendly and we would recommend the restaurant to any visitors, couples as well as families, anytime. My daughter says: The food was very lovely (5 stars ) I loved it ! The people were very nice.

To suggest the service in this place was appalling would be an insult to appalling places all over the world. Genuinely utterly utterly terrible. I’ve never experienced more rude service in my life, and to be honest never expect it would be possible to do so. A horrid experience for which words simply cannot do justice.

Our experience was the absolute opposite of the previous two reviews. Jonathan is superb, friendly, attentive and very professional. We stayed at the hotel at the same time last year and the service was excellent. You are allowed time to consider your order and then given plenty of time to relax and enjoy the experience. It has a an up market feel but not remotely ostentatious. The service as mentioned was excellent, the food is beautifully presented and the fillet steak simply superb, cooked to perfection. Having eaten at some prestigious eateries this ranks close to the very best. It may not be the cheapest option in Birmingham but if you want absolute quality steak, cooked beautifully this will be hard to match. The potions are perfect with a good choice of gluten free as the orders are cooked to order. We thoroughly recommend this place Jonathan and the other staff deserve great credit. Table booked for our next visit in 2019!!

I ate in here last night and it was somewhat of a farce! When we arrived we were told to take a seat which we did. 20 minutes later, the waiter brought a menu over and said "Are you ready to order?". I hadn't even been given a menu yet. Drinks - ordered 2 bottles of "Blood Orange cider" but out came a normal cider. We said "Is that blood orange" to the reply "oh sorry we are out" after the bottles were open and poured! Starters - Not too bad - took another 15 minutes to arrive and a prawn cocktail came in an actual salad bowl - it was huge! Main courses were an absolute hilarity! One ordered a steak - medium which when it came out, was rare at best so he asked if they could cook it a bit longer - reply - "I can cook you a fresh one" to which they said "Just warm that one up". It came out and was still underdone so we called the waiter over. He said "i'll sort it but can't you just eat your chips?". Absolute comedy gold... we said "I kinda want steak and chips" so off the steak went to be pinged again until they got it right. It was hilarious from start to finish!

A humongous total of 14 people eating on a Friday evening caused huge delays with food. 40 mins wait for a starter that consisted of 3 very salty chicken teriyaki kebabs. Main course arrived quickly after the rush of the 3 tables all at different courses was addressed. Distinctly average would be generous. Skin on gravy, mash hard on top indicated food had been left under lights. Pudding- poor- warm cream and warm tart again indicated a problem. Also ambience poor, waiter banging and clattering, setting up for breakfast on tables surrounding us. Don’t bother- a poor experience. Waiter Jonathan- tried his best to apologise for the wait. Also, this is a ‘steak house’ (allegedly) but the table d’hote menu has no steak on it?

A colleague and I decided on a steak for dinner and gave the restaurant a go. It's part of a hotel but all guests are welcome. The interior is very traditional and upmarket. It was a Tuesday evening and fairly quite as we started off as the only diners. It soon changed and the place started filling up, resulting in a pleasant atmosphere. There is a good choice on the menu and a number of the dishes have a distinct Scottish influence. For starters I had the Black Pudding Scotch egg which was excellent and followed that with a Chef Cut steak. The quality was great and the steak cooked as I'd ordered! In addition to the a la carte menu, there is also a fixed menu option which is good value for money and includes the above steak as an option, with no additional charge. There is a good IPA on tap, however the wine prices are a bit higher than average. All in all, the dinner was fantastic and the service was professional. I'd definitely return. The only difference I'd like to see is the ability to tip when paying by card.

Staying at the hotel, chose to have dinner T the Scottish Steak Club as it’s part of the hotel. Ordered Chicken Cordon Bleu and it was very good. Why I rated it 5 stars were for two things. The service was fantastic and I ordered peas and carrots. I decided to write this review on a side dish. I don’t think I’ve ever had or perhaps will ever have carrots so perfectly prepared and presented. Yep a trip advisor review on carrots, who knew. I’m staying for the week and will be back several times.

I decided to eat here one night, as I was staying in the hotel and didn't wish to venture far. I booked a table in advance, although in hindsight there was no need, as despite it being a Saturday night it wasn't at all busy. The service was great, a lady and a gentleman were on waiting duty that night and both were very friendly, efficient and the right side of attentive. I had a Tagliatelle Bolognese as a main course. This tasted spectacularly good. I am a fan of Bolognese, it's one of my very very favourite dishes, and this one was certainly up there with the very best. The way it was flavoured was divine. My dessert was Strawberries and Vanilla Ice Cream. Can't fault this, the Strawberries were in a decent quantity and tasted nice & fresh. The ice cream tasted very very nice. The food I had tasted amazing and was fairly good value. Literally the only downside, and reason for four stars rather than five, was the price of the drinks. The drinks menu is extortionately overpriced. Although the restaurant is part of a hotel, and I guess you unfortunately come to expect that hotels are going to charge ridiculous amounts. Definitely recommended for the lovely food and great service though.

Business dinner a few mins walk from New Street station. Nice traditional old Birmingham hotel with tiled walls. The Steak Club is quiet nicely decorated and excellent for chat and discussion. Next door is a relaxing bar. V good atmosphere. We had starters of salad, prawns and crab. Mains between 6 of us included no steak or chips so plenty of non-steak options. I had an excellent and plentiful linguine, others had sea bass, lamb and fish pie. All nicely done and tasteful. No room for pub. All in all this worked well, and food very good.

This is part of The Burlington Hotel and what an opulent place it must have been in its heyday. It's still pretty smart today. We turned up quite late having been badly let down by the place we'd booked to eat at following a tour of the German Market. Between us we ordered a selection of great steaks and one burger, all polished off with no complaints. The service was good too. In all a place to be recommended.

My husband and I eat in the Bar because we were going to the theatre and needed to eat early. Although the choice for hot food was obviously limited (8 dishes) there were plenty of light bites and sandwiches to select from. I had a wonderful beef burger with salad and chunky chips and my husband had Cumberland sausages with creamed mashed potato and a rich onion gravy. The price was fair for a 4 Star hotel and not over the top.

I'm surprised that this restaurant doesn't have a higher ranking. The food was very good, one of the best, tenderest steaks I've had in ages and the blue cheese sauce to go with it was THE best! They produced a generous cheeseboard with an extraordinarily nice honeycomb I shall be searching out in future. The environment is very 1930s dining room which sort of mitigates against romantic dining but, being upstairs, it was lovely to watch passers by as the evening wore on.

Really bitterly disappointed, I booked dinner for four for Sunday evening, booked the hotel for one night for my family and for the full week ahead for my daughter who had a project in Birmingham. Despite the restaurant being almost empty it took the waitress ages to attend to seat us and bring over menus. After a time, we requested two fillet and two ribeye steaks only to be told that they only had sirloin, I made a comment about being surprised that the Steak Club had no "Steak", no apology just a roll of the eyes and a "we're out"....No surprise the evening was ruined.

We had friends visiting from the South West who wanted typical "British" food, and this seemed a good bet. The dining room was beautifully decorated and appointed, but empty (to be fair, it was a Monday evening) and lacking in atmosphere.None of our first choices for main course were available - no Lemon Sole, no Lamb and not much apology - so we all plumped for a T-bone steak. This should, of course, have a bone in it, but this had been removed and although the meat was tender and cooked adequately (we had asked for a mixture of rare, medium and well-done) the charcoal flavour engendered in cooking masked the flavour of the steak itself. The accompanying hand-cut chips were overdone, being both soggy in the middle and slightly charred (but still soft) on the outside, while the veg consisted of a fairly bland mushroom and an over-cooked tomato. The deserts were fine and the service was impeccable, but for practically £20 a head for the main course I would have expected something better than what you could get in a local pub for £6.99.

Ate here when I stayed at the hotel with my wife. The food was lovely, can't fault it there. Be careful when ordering from the menu, as you will get what it says, as for some dishes there is no side vegetables unless you specifically order them. This can mean you get just a plateful or sausage, mash and gravy. Staff were very good at what they do, plates collected and delivered in a timely fashion, and the food was all the correct temperature. An excellent place for any special occasion, and presentation is definitely top notch.

Randomly spotted this place a few months back. I'd never heard of it, took a look at the menu, saw lots of steak and decided that I needed to visit. The prices weren't cheap, but I assumed that was because they had good food, so no problem! Its location makes it the sort of place you'd miss if you didn't know it was there, and if I didn't specifically like steak so much, I could have overlooked it.Myself and my girlfriend popped in on the way to a party on New Years Eve. I was dressed in hoodie and trainers, which some restaurants might be prissy about, but nobody showed any concern. I liked that straight away. We were given a seat by the window, looking down onto Birmingham's New Street. It's not a breath-taking view, but I was hopeful that I might get a laugh out of New Year revellers falling over. No such luck.Staff were very pleasant and attentive. Food was brought out promptly. I had haggis for starter, which was delicious, and so full of flavour, and a sirloin steak for mains, which was perfectly cooked. Both were beautifully presented. It was all accompanied by Broken Shackles rosé, which was delicious and complimented the meal nicely.Only two minor things. I'm not calling them 'complaints', because they're not really, they are just 'things'. Firstly, it was so quiet, we had at least five different members of staff serving us during our visit. No problem with that, except we had several staff members ask us the same things. It's not bad customer service, but you shouldn't have to say three times that you don't want dessert. Maybe one member of staff for a table and sticking with that might work better?Secondly, I really could not taste any pepper from the peppercorn sauce.Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, and it's very likely that I'll visit again.

For a meeting with colleagues we had teas, coffees and sandwiches at the Burlington. The food was lovely, not too heavy, and the tea and coffees were served well. Although the service took a little longer than most places I would recommend to others as it's only moments from New Street. However, and this is a sad however, I did find it quite upsetting to overhear one of the receptionists, a lady with glasses, stating how bad the company was and other sentiments to someone that was at reception. I did not find this appropriate and such thoughts should maybe not be stated quite so loud and enthusiastically where customers can hear.Other than this I would definitely go back as its a lovely meeting place.
