Sadly this iconic pub did nothing but disappoint. Our evening started badly as the table we’d booked outside in the garden on a balmy Indian summer evening was filthy: engrained dirt and sticky. Unfortunately none of the staff felt like doing anything about it but kindly provided me with some spray and blue paper roll so I could attempt clean it myself. In fact, the staff were signally disinterested in anything very much and clearly had not graduated from charm school or, perhaps, were just hating every second of their job. Our food was dumped in front of us by an equally charmless waitress and napkins turned out to be none existent. Our request for another light on the table so we could see what we were eating was met with a blunt, one syllable response. Another water wsaid he would see what he could do, failed to reappear. Regardless, we enjoyed each other’s company, however we declined to pay the pre-added service charge on the grounds that this was something we had not received.

Is a lovely pub but the staff was terrible! Look like they don’t care about the job, I ask some questions about the food they don’t know how to answer. There were four tables free one with a reserved sign, we took the nit reserve and a guy came and told us all was reserved and the people were arriving in 5 minutes, funny two hours was passed and no one came to sit at those tables. The food was alright, I m sure they can heat up more. The only table we sit on was like being without cleaning for days! Yellow stains all over! But the problem was the staff look like they didn’t care about serving.

This lively hipster pub is my new favourite pub in this neighbourhood. Reasonably priced pints, great paintings of dogs (with one exception: the one depicting a greyhound), lots of cool hipsters.

I've always loved the Scolt Head but recently having been diagnosed with some annoying food intolerances I was wondering if they would be able to accommodate these as I've found it tricky in most restaurants. I emailed and Rosie was so helpful giving me different options and even offering to go off menu and make me some delicious sea bream. When I went, all the staff were aware of my intolerance and that I was having the off menu option. It was so delicious and they didn't make me feel awkward or difficult for asking :) I'll 100% be back xxx

A brilliant pub with great staff and a lovely atmosphere – perfect for sinking a few! However, the scale of these two hounds side by side is not quite right, I suggest swapping the bulldog with the nervous greyhound on the other wall. Something to think about. Thanks again!

This place caught my eye whilst driving past as the outdoor area looked lovely and full of revellers. I visited for a Sunday lunch, whilst the ambience was amazing and I had the loveliest time with my friends, the beef roast was very average. The meat was very chewy and lacked flavour entirely. The treamings were not cooked very consistently. I would most certaintly revisit for drinks but I would not order food. The ambience retained stars.

Left before we ordered. Walked through a crowded garden with people sitting and standing into the pub to look for our table. Asked at bar where our table was and shown to one with with two people already on it. They did leave. Table was then not cleaned after they left and was sticky and dirty. Did look at menu. Looked good but when I looked around the room it was full of people standing drinking and in big groups sitting on chairs with no tables in the room we were in, everything was dirty including the floor. When shown to table told “you have to order at bar” (which was packed) .. “a hello how are you?”might have been a better first impression. Decided not to stay. Recommendations: do not advertise one of your inside back rooms as a place to eat/restaurant on OpenTable when it’s not as when I walked out I saw you did have another restaurant room on the other side of the bar, clean table surfaces between sittings, sweep the floor, check your paper menus are clean, and take orders at the table when people book for food. Not surprised I had a call that my table for a previous weekend was cancelled as you had to close the pub as one of your staff had Covid.

After a very long pause due to the pandemic we went out to a pub after months of food celibacy. We went for a brunch on a Saturday. The day was gorgeous but the pub with Nuno in the kitchen (and if not, at least designing the menu) was even more uplifting. The food was gorgeous with things like CackleBean Eggs with a yolk so golden that it could have matched the sun of that day. Paired with smoked trout and lemony latkes. A delight with an early pint. Not sure if this would qualify as food porn but after so many months in confinement it definitely felt like Attentive service and reasonable prices complement the offering. Would repeat it at any chance.

Went to the Scolt Head for our first post-lockdown meal. They were very on the ball with making sure everyone was wearing a mask if they went inside, hand sanitiser everywhere etc. We had a table outside and the waitress was amazing, she was so personable and friendly. All 3 of us ordered the beef Sunday roast and it was hands down one of the best roasts I've ever had.

Corner location so the footprint of the place is triangular and it has a decent sized garden in front. Why do I like it? Because it's three pubs in one. The main area as you walk in has the air of a country boozer with a fireplace cracking away in the corner. To the right is a dining room, which serves gastropub-level grub and to the left we have a large room with a giant screen for watching football and rugby. It's a little off the beaten track midway between hip Dalston and poncy Highbury so there's a good mix of people of all ages, hues and whatnot. Nice selection of beers, friendly staff and good looking people. (And if you can't get a table to eat there's the Talbot five minutes away.)

The Scolt Head has the most rude miserable staff of any establishment I've ever been to, and I've lived in Paris. My friend had her birthday there and the staff were so rude to pretty much everyone in the group, it almost seemed like a wind up. I bought a bottle of house white wine at the bar and after I'd paid I realised she'd forgotten to give me wine glasses. Obviously just a mistake, I patiently waited to catch her eye to ask for a glass but she seemed to not see me for some time. After serving others, she finally caught my eye so I asked nicely for a wine glass and she snarled at me like I'd asked for her kidney and angrily banged the glass down on the bar with no apology or acknowledgment. The people I was with were astonished. It was like she hated me yet I'd never met her before in my life.Anyway, there was only one friendly person behind the bar (early on in the evening), and three very surly rude ones. Not worth risking going there again. Definitely don't go for a birthday unless you're a masochist and enjoy being treated like the scum on the scum of the bar person's shoe.Nice decor though.

I've been coming to this pub for years and years as it used to be my local. I still occasionally make a special trip from where I live now to go there. Sadly, last night's visit was a disappointment, not because of the pub itself or its offerings, but because of its staff. Although their website says it's open till midnight 7 days a week, they rang the 1st bell at 10:30 pm (it was a Wednesday and the pub was busy), opened the doors wide in spite of pounding rain, were constantly shouting 'we want everyone out by 11' and were very disruptive in clearing and cleaning everything. When I asked them why they were closing so early, they said 'we always close at 10:30 and give you an extra 30 mins to drink up'. I couldn't belive what I was hearing! To top it all, one of the barstaff even said, 'we're closing because we've had such a looooong day'. Right, so whenever I feel I've had a long day, I stop work early?!?!? From an objective point of view, either the website has not been updated and they DO close at 10:30 pm evey night (which over the many years I've been going there has NEVER been the case except on a Sunday) or the staff just wanted to go home early and lied to us. I wonder if the manager/owner of the Scolt Head knows what her staff are up to when she's not around? I'll give it another try and if this happens again, I'll stop going.

I´ve been there several times, and even with a frequently changing menu the kitchen is able to deliver consistently very tasteful and well made dishes. Staff is in general very friendly. If you´re after the classic atmosphere of a local pub with a no-frills but excellent kitchen for dinners or Sunday Roast, this is a sure bet. No-frills unfortunately also applies to the beer selection; they could do with a couple guest cask ales and draught beers.

This is a popular and rather hectic pub with a reasonably large restaurant area in the heart of the de Beauvoir estate in Hackney. We went for dinner on a Saturday evening, and had to fight our way through the crowds to get to the tables. Once seated we were given menus quickly, although it took a few minutes for the drinks menu to be produced. The menu is limited, but it does cater for all diets, including vegetarian, and possibly vegan. I ordered the roasted sea bass with roasted fennel, my cousin ordered a meat dish. We did not have to wait long, although the restaurant was very busy. My cousin’s food was good. My sea bass was small, but well cooked and tasty. The accompanying vegetables were cold, and when I complained I was informed that it was a vegetable salad and supposed to be cold. If that is the case it should have been served separately because where it sat next to the hot fish it was warm! The presentation of both dishes was not attractive, and it looked as though the food had been thrown on the plate. I, however, prefer good to pretty, and the food was good. For dessert my cousin had crème brule, which was a large portion and good. I ordered the apple crumble with what I was informed was home-made custard. The crumble was delicious. The custard was probably the worst I have ever had anywhere. It was thin, runny and tasteless. Bird’s custard would have been infinitely preferable. The bill with 2 glasses of wine came to £54.00 including service, which is about average for the area, and for the quality of food.Service was quite good, and friendly. The atmosphere in the pub is vibrant and noisy. It is fairly dark and not easy to see the decor. There is easy wheelchair access, although when we went it was so busy entry in a wheelchair would have depended entirely on people moving out of your way. There is also a properly appointed disabled lavatory. There is a large outside area which I should imagine would be pleasant in summer.I would probably eat there again, but would avoid a Saturday evening.

I drink in here a fair bit, it has a nice garden and is spacious inside.. Nothing special but it's near to my flat. They have a big room at the back which shows football which is good as doesn't take over the entire pub. We ate in here for the first time this Saturday and I was so impressed hence the review. First of all the lady that served us was so helpful and polite (the older bar lady) it's so refreshing to have such good service. We had 2 steak sandwiches which we asked for medium rare, it wasn't a problem cooking it this way so maybe it's a different chef (going by the review that said they have to cook medium well). The bread was very good quality the chips really nice. We moved tables and the staff found us she brought the extra sauces we asked for promptly and we really enjoyed it.I have noticed staff in the past being a bit less committed/ happy but on this occasion I couldn't fault it. The menu is short which I think means they can focus on the quality of the food more as they only have a few dishes. Yes it has a lot of 'trendys' there but you'll be pushed to find a good pub without a few trendys in Dalston.I'll definitely eat there again.

I've been to The Scolt Head a few times and always enjoyed myself. I booked a table to celebrate my friend's birthday and we ended up having to leave as the staff were so unpleasant. 3 of us at the table ordered burgers, which we were told could only be served medium well for safety reasons. When they came out they were dry and overcooked in a dry bun. The menu isn't cheap there and none of us who ordered our burgers finished them, so we decided to politely let our waitress know we were unhappy with them.To our surprise instead of being understanding the waitress and the manager became argumentative and rude. After a horrible argument with them they agreed to take them off the bill but we were then glared at from across the room while we quickly tried to finish our drinks, the waitress storming back and forth to our table. The atmosphere was horrible! A really upsetting ending to what should have been a lovely day in the pub celebrating our friends birthday.

The calamari was pretty good, as was the chorizo croquets. Although the food does not stand out, we did not have any complaints. The beef portion was quite small for its price though, unlike the pork. The wine list is very descent, the Cote Du Rhone was excellent. I had the roast beef which was superb – great quality meat and really well cooked – huge crispy Yorkshire pudding and smashing home-made horseradish sauce. My other half had pan fried partridge, which whilst fiddly to eat was really really tasty. Prices were reasonable too. all in all a very enjoyable experience and I would not hesitate to return to this establishment if I was in the area again – wish it was local to me!!!

A lovely pub on a quiet road that serves food so delicious it's a must for any foodie. Service's friendly and food affordable. Great little place. Loved my beetroot strudel with goat cheese!

Had a group of 12 of us plus a couple of young children and felt the service was excellent and very attentive. The food was great and one of the better sunday lunches i've had.

This gastro pub is located in a very quiet part of Islington, near De Beauvoir Square. It serves really great gastro food for a very reasonable price. It is always very lively, a bit too crowded sometimes but the restaurant area is usually quiet. We have been twice and have had great food, portions are very generous too. The waitresses are very friendly. The deserts were not that impressive and they do not have many Ales but we will come back.

The Scolt Head is the perfect local pub which also just happens to do great food. The food is always very good with a short daily and seasonal menu which includes veggie, fish and meat options at affordable prices. But what makes the Scolt Head so popular is a certain ambience that is just very difficult to explain... the experience is always a good one and you just simply relax! Highly recommended – but on second thoughts don’t come, leave it for us locals.

Ten of us went for a family evening meal. We are not regular visitors to London and we were most impressed. Despite the pub being packed the staff gave an excellent and attentive service and our haunch of venison with red cabbage and bubble and squeak was exceptional. From our experience we would recommend it to anyone.

One of the best pubs in Hackney! We went to the quiz for the first time on Thursday and it was loads of fun. Would highly reccomend!

Had Sunday lunch there , it was deeply disappointing. An, at best, average roast but with grim meat and served stone cold. Add in rude staff, tense ambience and grotty surroundings , it’s really not worth the cost. When there are so many fabulous Sunday lunch spots in london there is no reason to choose this one. Mothering Sunday and the restaurant was not quite half full, speaks for itself. I’m not surprised !

Tuve el brunch dominical más delicioso aquí. Personal agradable Gran lugar al aire libre. Justo en el canal. Tienes que tocar la puerta del puente para acceder

Really was terrible- I eat most things, but this was inedible. Mash- stupid amount of salt. Lumpy. No butter. Pie- soggy bottom, and meat poor quality mince Floor covered in sawdust, so went all over my belongings. From observation it looks like tourists come here for a ‘local experience’, but I worry that they are leaving thinking that all local London food is like this! With a bit of extra care and attention, it could be much better.

Best coffee around the area. Very friendly staff and great music selection! Oh they have absolutely stunning icecream now, probably the best I have tried in London (and I have tried a lot!!)
