Please ignore the wine list, they will serve you whatever cheap wine they have on the back. I was given an entirely different wine from what I paid for. Management was extremely rude and I didn't even get to see an actual bottle of wine. I will not return to this pub.

This place used to be absolutely top tier. Unfortunately, it has since come under new management and fallen off. The beers have become more expensive and often worse/less local. The food is less “pub food” and had become over priced unlikeable sharing food. (Chicken wings, things, roast potatoes and other bits were poor). Flat bread was nice but tiny for 14 quid. (Management changed last year). It will never fail due to the location, but what a fall from grace.

Arrived at 3pm on a Sunday for a roast, only to be told they had already ran out of roasts completely, because 'it was busier than expected' (you were fully booked yet somehow it was unexpected all these people showed up??). We were presented with the sharing snack menu instead, which is a selection of various mediocre attempts at Turkish food. To add insult to injury, they seated us in a quiet and empty side room, away from the atmosphere of the main areas. Extremely underwhelming experience, and quite poor value for money as well. Doubly disappointing as I had visitors for the weekend, all keen to try their very first proper Sunday roast...

The Royal Inn on the Park is a local institution, and manages to balance looking after its regulars - who eat and drink there year round including the darkest coldest days of winter - with catering well for the huge crowds of visitors to the fabulous adjoining Victoria Park on the long, hot days of the summer. It has a wide range of beers and spirits, and the (relatively new) management have revamped the menu so that there is plenty of choice for all palates. There’s lots of space outside and in, and the only occasional problem is that its sheer popularity sometimes means it can take a while to get served on busy busy days - no matter how hard the friendly staff work. As someone who lives round the corner and has been coming here for over 20 years, I can recommend The Royal as a proper pub that welcomes everyone.

This is a lovely pub but much better on a quieter day. We came on a day that was way too busy. But the food in here is decent, the surroundings are lovely as you're in the park itself. It's dog friendly. But beware because of the crowds, it is a queue at the bar system, no table service. Which is fine, but just be aware of this before coming. I have been coming here for over 20 years and have seen the changes in this area and this pub. But I will always visit when I'm in the area as for me it's a part of my Eastend history.

Having shared a poor review previously, the owners discussed my concerns & dealt with it marvellously. They appear to have extended the menu & the quality of the food is back to its best. This pub will be absolutely packed once the weather picks up. There's benches out the front & dining space out back with an inside/ outside area that can be adapted depending on the weather. Went to the pub to try the food and the quiz as I’d heard about the new management. The food was honestly delicious, you can tell that a lot of hard work went into achieving those dishes and it pays off. If this is what the chefs can do when they stop making pub classics then I hope I never see another burger or fish and chips again. The quiz was good fun, a light hearted, funny and chaotic experience that was loved by our whole team.

Great pub in a great location with good beers and nice food. Unfortunately however they have taken their brilliant, long-running, proper pub quiz on a Thursday night (which we did every week without fail) and replaced it with an awful, trashy, new version - and moved it to Wednesdays to boot. This was the first time we have been here as we always go past it so we decided to book a Sunday roast. That was the biggest mistake we ever made, the chicken was dry, the potatoes tasted like it was a day old, dry and tough. One of my family had the beef which was also tough and they didnt give us enough gravy to go with it. They had forgotten two items from our order and said she would take it off the bill?! Why would we even try and pay for it if we did not receive it?! The manager was rude and not helpful at all. The chef even looked at our table and gave us the most dirtiest look and refused to take some of the items off the bill - how can someone serve such appalling food to customers?! Families come to your pub everyday, at least give edible food to children! Coming from someone in the hospitality industry, i definitely would not recommend this pub food at all! I can definitely serve better than this. DO NOT EAT HERE! I hear Hemmingway’s food is MUCH better! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PUB! Their food and staff seems like it has gone downhill.

Not sure what’s happened to this pub? We visited today. Myself, partner, 95 year old Aunt and 9 year old Daughter. - Waited one hour for our food, no mention from any staff that there was a long wait for food. - No vegetarian choice for kids meal, except for Nut toast. How many kids eat nuts? A Mac & Cheese, C & T pizza would have gone down well rather than just two choices- roast or sausage & chips - My roast wasn’t hot had to be returned -No lamb sauce, bread sauce or horseradish sauce? Which was supposed to come with our toasts. Had to ask twice for them. - Roast potatoes not crispy - Lamb all fatty - Chicken dry - Asked for a cheeseboard for our Daughter as that was the only vegetarian option she could eat. We specified plain cheese and crackers. Twice it arrived with blue cheese, brie and charcoal crackers. We returned that too. We will not be returning anytime soon. Please stay clear if you have children.

Prime location so should get lots of passing trade as well as bookings…. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to find it half empty. We had booked a table, grabbed some menus and ordered at the bar. We ordered garden peas instead of mushy peas with one of the orders of fish and chips…. Later we watched the food being dished up on the pass and noticed they had put mushy peas on and clearly someone said something as the man behind the counter huffed and grabbed the food with his bare hands and moved it over to another plate with garden peas. Meals were good portion sizes and nice. In two minds if we would go back or try somewhere else.

Sadly one of the absolute worse experiences of Sunday Roast! The team was unfortunately not helpful at all regarding my food allergy, so bad that I had to point out what from the dish should’ve been taken out (severe milk protein allergy, so I have requested no cauliflower cheese and no Yorkshire pudding, but for the server that was not necessary/just looked at me confused as genuinely did not know what contained dairy in the dish!?) but beside me requesting no Yorkshire pudding, my dish had it anyway on the top! I did not felt safe eating my food and I’ve eaten only the meat and half roast potato that was honestly the worse I’ve ever had, felt like was cooked yesterday and microwaved!!! The food also took a ridiculous short time from ordering to receiving it at the table, less than 10minutes, makes me wonder if they had them ready on the pass waiting for people to order?!? Definitely won’t be back

Sadly this iconic pub did nothing but disappoint. Our evening started badly as the table we’d booked outside in the garden on a balmy Indian summer evening was filthy: engrained dirt and sticky. Unfortunately none of the staff felt like doing anything about it but kindly provided me with some spray and blue paper roll so I could attempt clean it myself. In fact, the staff were signally disinterested in anything very much and clearly had not graduated from charm school or, perhaps, were just hating every second of their job. Our food was dumped in front of us by an equally charmless waitress and napkins turned out to be none existent. Our request for another light on the table so we could see what we were eating was met with a blunt, one syllable response. Another water wsaid he would see what he could do, failed to reappear. Regardless, we enjoyed each other’s company, however we declined to pay the pre-added service charge on the grounds that this was something we had not received.

Had Sunday lunch there , it was deeply disappointing. An, at best, average roast but with grim meat and served stone cold. Add in rude staff, tense ambience and grotty surroundings , it’s really not worth the cost. When there are so many fabulous Sunday lunch spots in london there is no reason to choose this one. Mothering Sunday and the restaurant was not quite half full, speaks for itself. I’m not surprised !

Really was terrible- I eat most things, but this was inedible. Mash- stupid amount of salt. Lumpy. No butter. Pie- soggy bottom, and meat poor quality mince Floor covered in sawdust, so went all over my belongings. From observation it looks like tourists come here for a ‘local experience’, but I worry that they are leaving thinking that all local London food is like this! With a bit of extra care and attention, it could be much better.
