Scarfes Bar in Camden

In Camden is Rosewood London and its sexy and sophisticated Scarfes Bar. First opened in 2014, the high-octane Scarfes Bar features live jazz music every night. Inspired by the atmosphere of a drawing room, the bar was named after the British artist and caricaturist Gerald Scarfe. Gerald’s own collection of conversation-provoking paintings adorn the marble walls, transforming Scarfes Bar into a living canvas, described by Scarfe as “my personal art gallery, where you can see my life on these walls”. Director of Bars Martin Siska leads the bar’s cocktail program. The sizable and gifted mixology team, again mostly Italian, create their own home-made syrups, ferments and distillates within an in-house laboratory, a rare luxury for a hotel bar. Impressively, the bartenders make about 800 cocktails on busy nights, making Scarfes Bar one of the few high volume hotel bars in London. The new menu launched in April 2024 goes back the basics with drinks that are close relatives to their classic counterparts. For example Scarfes’ Paper Glider, a mix of Highland Park 12, Aperol, peach and maple Verjus, takes inspiration from Sam Ross’ modern classic the Paper Plane, which he invented in 2008 for The Violet Hour in Chicago

Scarfes Bar at the Rosewood London hotel was undoubtedly the highlight of my trip to London. In fact, it quickly became my favorite bar in the entire city. What truly impressed me was the seamless experience from start to finish. Unlike many popular spots in London, we didn’t have to wait in any line and didn’t need reservations. The bouncer at the door was incredibly cool, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. In fact, we even exchanged tips on must-visit spots in New York City for when he makes it over here. Once inside, the sophisticated ambiance and attention to detail immediately caught my eye. Inspired by the whimsical artwork of Gerald Scarfe, the decor added a touch of artistic flair to the elegant surroundings. The service was impeccable, with attentive staff ensuring that every need was met promptly and courteously. From recommending signature cocktails to providing insights into the history of the bar, the staff at Scarfes Bar went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience. Speaking of cocktails, the drink menu was a masterpiece in itself. Each cocktail was expertly crafted with precision and creativity, offering a delightful blend of flavors that tantalized the taste buds. Adding to the ambiance was the live jazz music, which provided the perfect soundtrack to the evening. The combination of smooth melodies and cozy lighting created an atmosphere that was both lively and intimate. Overall, Scarfes Bar exceeded my expectations in every way possible. From the exquisite decor to the impeccable service, from the expertly crafted cocktails to the enchanting live music, every aspect of my experience was nothing short of perfection. Without a doubt, Scarfes Bar earns a perfect 10 out of 10 in my book. It may be pricey, but the experience is worth every penny. My first visit may have been my introduction to London, but it certainly won’t be my last visit to Scarfes Bar.

I really like this place, only one thing I don’t like there is always queue :) they have excellent whiskey menu. Prices are little bit higher than market but still good prices for the quality. If I have a business meeting or get relaxed somewhere else with a nice drink I love to go there. By the way Service is great here. Thanks for your time and hospitality guys. See you soon

The best bar I've been in ages. Jazz music, amazing environment, excellent service, and the best of all, Kitty LaRoar. If you haven't been there, go. You'll love it. A living legend in London. It might actually be my first female crush 😍. That's how great she was.

If you're planning to visit Scarfes Bar, particularly without a reservation, be prepared for potentially lengthy waits and consider exploring other options if prompt seating is a priority. Otherwise, you may find yourself watching others leave without being offered a seat at all. Despite their stated walk-in policy, my friends and I experienced significant delays and frustration during our recent visit. Despite there being no one in front of us upon arrival, we waited for nearly an hour without being seated. It was only later disclosed that all available seats were reserved exclusively for hotel guests. This lack of transparency and consideration for walk-in customers is concerning.

We didn't feel very welcome. We expected more from the fact that it is one of the best bars in London, at least one question about whether the cocktail is ok would be nice considering the price of the cocktail. If I had to go back, I probably won't

The interior of the bar is a beautiful concept as well. Unfortunately, I regret that such a beautiful bar and menu were not presented to us. Such a highly rated bar should provide better service.

A very good place. Excellent to meet and even be romantic at. At 11.30 the throw you out if you are not a hotel guest.

There is a reason why it is always so busy here. I truly had a delightful time - the drinks, service (shout out to Andrea), and most importantly, the atmosphere are just perfect. A really pleasant social place, the way a bar should be. Loved it and really appreciated not being made to queue.

Best bar I’ve ever been to!!! It’s 22-25 GBP for a cocktail but it’s worth it given the atmosphere, the live music and the amazing service! It also comes with complimentary snacks. This place is Special, 10/10 recommend!!

Such a great spot for a cocktail or a fabulous wine and a chat. The staff were really engaging and it was a great experience beyond the drinking. Pop in for 1 or 2 or 3!!

Excellent service. Lovely cocktails. We came for the jazz (Kitty LaRoar). My aunt has follow her from Hong Kong to here. A very good atmosphere. A great place to chill out on a Saturday. The only thing I was a bit alarmed when I was told there is a minimum charge of £100 per person when we tried to book a table on the phone for 6!! We walked in and got a table instead.

Pricey but classy. Food and drinks are much better than they need to be, and they are both excellent. Each drink was balanced, interesting, and had the right level of exoticism. Worthy of its place on the list.

Hands down, one of the most sophisticated and amazing bars I have been to. Upon arriving, we were greeted by Chris (doorman) who has engaged in a pleasant conversation and shared brief history and overview of the bar, even suggested a couple of the signature drinks to try. Entering the premises, it is hard not to notice the atmosphere - dimmed lights, beautiful design, massive selection of whiskeys, professional waiters & staff, as well as live Jazz music (what a treat!). Cocktails are impressive, bartenders are experienced and can make a customised drink depending on your needs. Zoe (waiter) has been incredible in listening to our needs, and even procured us a lovely and comfortable seating location, once it became available. I thought she did an excellent job. Will definitely be coming back, and even looking forward to it! Highly recommend 10/10.

I popped in while on my way from the city to somewhere nearby I needed to be. The space is beautiful and classy. I was expecting it to be larger though. It is on the smallish side. I had a japanese sparkling sake, and it was really nice. Bar staff seems to be the stronghold of this spot, they are super professional and competent. I will come back to try some of their creative cocktails, looked special. After earing they work with just a small music agency since 10 years, and offering basically the same musical performance through the year, every week, weekend, every month, I won't definitely come for the music here and indeed they should avoid to label themesleves as a jazz bar. They are definitely more focused on drinks, which are fine to be frank

Some of the hardest bottles to find in the world, are here for you to try in Scarfes Bar in the Rosewood London. I had an amazing glass of McAllen. The atmosphere is amazing and very comfortable. I highly recommend coming here for a drink and relaxing for an hour or two to live music.

All excellent. Great selection of cocktails and whiskey. Did not have anything that was not very good and their drinks are very creative; the standards also, like a dirty martini, were excellent. Great service and atmosphere. And the jazz band that was playing - the Nick Shankland & Kitty LaRoar Trio -- was extemely good.

A charming bar with exquisite cocktails and live jazz music every night of the week. The theme is a cross between an old library and a whiskey lounge. Loved the decor, music, cocktails and bites. Food wise, I would recommend the raw tuna tacos and the savoury potato Mile-feuille.

I wish I could give this place minus stars for their service but well google doesn't let me. I want everyone to know the reality of this place, SO CALLED WORLD-CLASS HOTEL/COCKTAIL BAR IS A SCAM. Customer service is a joke for these people and no one important enough more than their own staff. Me, my boyfriend and my friend visited this place on christmas eve to celebrate my birthday. So, due to this occation I had a helium balloon with me, which I wanted to keep. Sounds silly but it had importance for me as it was a gift, but the person at the entrance didn't pay any attention to my request and strictly advised us to keep it outside which later flew away (obv). So my point here is, after paying £115 for drinks and service charge, Their staff did not have the desency to try help customers out in situations like these. Moreover, inside the bar, the bartender didn't pay any attention towards us and we saw him having a chat with everyone around us, which was weird and we felt neglected and underserved. The place overall is highly overrated, the customer service is so bad that I would never ever go back to this mediocre place. Extemely rude and ignorant staff. Save your time and money.

Ama arkamızda daha uzun bir sıra olmuştu. Ayrıca canlı caz performans da vardı. Yeniden gidilir!

Service and atmosphere is second to none, some walk in space is available if you go early during christmas period. However given by the fame of the hotel and the price charging, the quality of cocktail could be better. Especially the choice of ice, it melted too quick and not transparent enough and it affected the entire drink

Great cocktails and live music. I recommend the "Love me tender" cocktail and all food we had was excellent. It's a sitting-bar, not really an area to dance or stand and move to the music which was a shame as the band was great.

Drinks are pretty good, but didn’t find anything amazing. Atmosphere is top notch though, with comfortable couches, live music at times, and complimentary nuts and olives. Bar snacks are pricey but of high quality.

Let down by the service. Very nice setting, tasty snacks, drinks were ok but expected more. All in all was a nice experience, let down at the end by the manager/waiter attitude when we expressed our dissatisfaction with the incorrect bill.

Service is great, drinks aren’t. I’m surprised this is in the world 50 best. I had two drinks and both weren’t worthy of the price. If you’re gonna go, keep your expectations tempered. Also, they have live music after 8 pm and I suspect vibe would be better.

Located inside the stunning Rosewood hotel, we went here for nibbles and a few pre-dinner drinks before going to the Holburn dining room, also inside the hotel. The atmosphere was wonderful, very comfortable seating and incredibly attentive service from the waiting staff. When we ordered our drinks straight away, they bought us a bowl of olives and a mixed bowl of nuts and crackers which as soon as we finished they kept replacing until we had to ask them to stop as we were going to ruin our appetite, if not careful! We did have a couple of pre-dinner appetisers, which were wonderful and the cocktails were expertly made. I will definitely be back!

Scarfes Bar is great! The service is great, they give you some snacks with your drinks. The drinks are so damn good, great refined combinations. Depending on what time you go there is live music as well. The atmosphere is incredible, and the interior decor is classy AF. There might be a line outside depending on the time you go.

Very random visit, warm hospitality, wonderful drinks and great music! spot on!

Now this is a spot that is a little higher class than we normally visit, but my wife thought a night out was needed while on our trip, so ‘happy wife’ and that whole thing. What a fun location, with live music and delicious cocktails. We did feel a bit out of place, but still a very enjoyable evening. The waiter was extremely friendly and gave us great suggestions. All in all, we may not come back, but it wouldn’t stop us from recommending this place to our more ‘fancy’ friends.

Exceptional bartenders, exceptional service - the reputed Rosewood training is much to reckon with - but the true highlight is their music. It is a shame that the clientele is so devoid of humanity; their pianist is the embodiment of humanity's best.

Impeccable service and atmosphere at Scarves. Wonderful artwork of Mr. Scarves decorates the large and comfortable room, with a range of different seating styles. We loved that there's no reservation, ensuring all walks of life can enter the bar and enjoy the live music that plays in the evening. Cocktails are expensive, but well worth every penny - your purchase of a drink also comes with complementary nuts and olives which are fantastic. Incredible work by the staff who run a tight ship here. Looking forward to my next visit!

We had a brilliant evening- a beautiful space, stunning cocktails and superb service. Arturo, our server, was perfectly skilled in his professionalism: attentive, humorous and warm without being intrusive or familiar. We felt very welcomed (including the doorman, who was great) and can't wait to return

Vibe is incredible. Dress up - you don’t want to feel underdressed here. Drinks are good but a bit too expensive (£25-30)

The cocktails were mediocre at best. Their own concoctions were too sweet and the classics were average. Jekyll and Hyde service but the band on Friday night was really good.

Second time having a cocktail here! A post lunch cocktail after lunch at the dinning room! Reminds me of the bar at the four seasons in Paris! i had the most wonderful time at this bar ! you are served like a queen/king and the waiters and bartenders are amazing and make you feel at home and comfortable. The music is velvet to the ear, and if you have the chance to meet the pianist, take it ! he’s extremely talented and sings and plays piano and bass and the same time ! mind-blowing ! I was alone but I wasn’t bored, Arturo, one of the bartenders kept me entertained with stories, Italian lessons and his hypnotizing way of serving drinks, as if he was putting a part of his soul in every drink. piacere Arturo, looking forward to come and speak French with you again soon ! to anyone reading this, you should come, don’t be ashamed, just try it out, thank me later ! Bars at Rosewood are always a must try, especially this one in London, in a historic majestic building. We came here on a Friday evening, arrived at 20 mins before 8pm. We didn’t make reservation and there were empty seats. We were seated at the table. The drink menu shows plenty of whisky and cocktails. I highly recommend the Japanese sparkling sake, sweet and smooth, and only £12 for 300ML 5% alcohol. Really suitable for girls. The snacks are free, nuts and olives 🫒. Live music starts at 8pm. The atmosphere is so chill, everyone is having a nice chat. Our serving staff is very attentive, he kept pouring drinks for us, clean up our table and bring in new snack when the plates are close to empty. The decor is very classy, British style. Chairs are comfortable. The whole hotel is just very grand and beautiful. They charge 15% service charge and I think it’s worth it. When we left at around 10pm, there is a queue by the door already. So come early if you can!

Amazing bar with signature cocktails and live music.

Perfect date place yet hidden so it is not super packed and they have life jazz band which is super relaxing. The cocktails are £20 and above so be ready for it. They are really good tho and you will find their famous politician cartoon paintings on the wall which is fascinating 🎹bar #jazz 🍸

It's one of my favourite bars in London. I loathe Dirty Martinis - apart from here where they are a magnificent if not lethal! Highly recommended

One of my favourites. Great for date night, a cosy catch up, or just to unwind. The ambience, service, entertainment (after 8pm) and drinks are all on point. Touch on the pricey side but well worth it.

Very civilised. One may easily let time pass without a care in the world. No screaming, no shouting, no attitude. A place of calming conversations, exquisite food and sublime drinks. To blazes with the cost, quality speaks volumes. I recommend this haven of excellent service and meticulous attention to hygiene to all that may need a wonderful reminder of how life should be. Easily 5 stars.
