Savill Garden Kitchen in Runnymede

A disappointing experience to celebrate 75th birthday. Waiting staff inattentive and service slow. Lukewarm food was returned for reheating. Apple crumble and sticky toffee pudding served cold. Only positives: delicious mocktail and hot coffee. Cannot otherwise recommend.

Good place for family gathering !

Beautiful location in an airy and breathtaking building. Plenty of space for lots of guests, however, on this occasion the service was terrible. The staff were very friendly, however it was so slow to do anything, such as place an order, wait for food, and pay. It wasn't even a busy time of the day, which makes it more disappointing. Quality of food was good, but it's very expensive.

Very slow service. Inattentive waiting staff who didn't seem bothered about the customers. We left having waited over 30 mins and not been served. Saw other customers waiting and even having to go up to the food counter to collect their own food. Come on Savill- sort your staffing out.

Absurd queue control (tables for 2&4 left empty for twenty/thirty minutes with a large queue nearby), no sign of active management, food and drink left on the pass for 12 minutes +, and a ridiculous waiting time for food. Shambolic.

Experienced a significant degradation of service on 08/09/24. Waiters were all hidden and orders and table deliveries were done 100% by their assistants. Therefore, I had to wait long time to have my order taken and then when it was brought to the table to observe that 2/3rds was missing. The restaurant wasn’t even close to being full.

There were five of us for Afternoon tea, the welcome and service overall was excellent. The sandwiches and buns were just right, the cakes were spot on and delicious, we could not eat everything. Our only moan was that when offered another pot of tea (very nice) they just filled the teapots up with hot water and did not refresh the tea bag! However apart from our moan we would book again.

Very nice venue, but service a bit slow. It was quite difficult to get attention to our table and the server was clearly getting distracted with other things when I asked for something. Regarding food: it was ok, but not great. We had pizza margherita, which unfortunately was a bit bland. It was disappointing to see dried oregano sprinkled on top of the pizza instead of fresh basil - I would definitely expect this on a £14 pizza margherita. At least it was served very hot. I wanted to have some dessert but I changed my mind after waiting so long for a server to come to us.

Food amazing but service could be slicker. We came here for lunch and ordered 4 pizzas. After 30 mins+ we had to chase up our order when then came out immediately. The food was lovely, but again to settled the bill we had to look around for a member of staff as lack of waiters. A Shame as we have been here many times before and never had an issue with this.

The setting is lovely but sadly food and service needs sorting out ! Had lunch and ordered Carrot/coriander soup …peculiar spicy taste , sent back and it was crossed of the bill , my dining companion ordered pizza , it came quite quickly hence not cooked properly …could do with being served on a hot platter also ! My companion did pay but not at all happy with food or service .

We complained about the food description. We were ignored for over an hour until we managed to get their attention. They ask if they could clear the plates but only took away halve the plates. We asked for manager who gave us a one word answer then walked away rolling her eyes. We will not be returning to the restaurant ever again.

Nice coffee and sandwiches, in a lovely setting. Unfortunately, the scone was dry and a little stale. Although the service was rather slow, the staff were very pleasant.

Four of us went for lunch to celebrate a birthday. The main course was good but we’re disappointed by the sticky toffee pudding desserts which were distinctly lacking in sticky toffee sauce! We told the staff who apologized but gave little explanation or reassurance it would be better on any subsequent visit. On balance we were underwhelmed by the experience.

Edita who served us was absolutely lovely and went one step further to give my mum a lovely birthday cake which was so appreciated. Thank you Edita 💕 (The food was good but as others have noted it was pricy!!)

A lovely environment with friendly staff...I just feel that £5.50 for a small cup of very average chips and nearly £19 for one fishcake on some crushed peas was not good value for money. I expect to pay this kind of amount for The Ivy as it's known to be 'Trendy' right now but Saville Garden seems to be ramping it's prices up to a rather overpriced amount but promoting as family friendly..although the prices to enter the new play park are also anything but.

Took a while to place the order. Ordered cream tea, it came with the tiniest amount of clotted cream. Asked for extra, but ended up finishing my meal before it was brought to the table (looking smeared in a very unpresentable way). Scones were warmed, had no taste and a sticky rather than crumbly texture. The menu overall was rather unappealing. It is a nice cafe in a great spot. Sadly, food and service have never lived up to expectation during my visits over the past 15 years.

Good food - the burger was particularly tasty. They were a bit understaffed, so service was slow, but still a good experience.

The afternoon tea here was wonderful. Especially good value for children and excellent quality. The scones and cream were delicious.The staff very attentive. Highly recommended, we will be returning.

Asked for Saville Stew (which was supposed to come with venison) no venison left so only choice was beef. So decided on the haddock and chips. I was looking forward to a good size piece of fish instead it was better with hardly fish in it! My wife's fish was slightly better she also got a lemon to squeeze over hers. Mine was missing so I had to ask for that. Chips nothing to write home about and of course it just came with peas which were cold. Hardly exciting. Oh yes and the cost for this lovely lunch. £39.90 almost £40 quid! Not exactly cheap as chips!

Very disappointed with: no menu to choose from, very little choice of snacks, noticed someone had soup so asked for soup which wasn't hot, tables cluttered, young staff working hard but not enough of them, senior member of staff taking orders at the till & not correct. Very disappointing as love the gardens.

Do not cater for gluten-free, wanted a light lunch like a sandwich, only some cakes were gluten-free, nothing labelled, ingredients not shown on items available. Very poor.

Love the building, gardens. just don't like the prices , £4 odd for a slice of cake is extortion

Have been for breakfast at Savill Garden’s before, but this time was not the same. I ordered a full English breakfast for £13.95. The description included “Cumberland sausages”, yet I only had one on the plate. It also mentioned “poached eggs.” When I asked if it was possible to get a friend egg instead, I was told that it this was not possible. Given the standards before, I was surprised when something as simple as a fried egg can’t be substituted in. Also the bacon was just one small piece. For the price it is, I was expecting the meal to be bigger. Regardless of this, the food still tasted good, just disappointed with the menu and the meal that came out the kitchen.

Absolute rio off, £6.70 for two cans of lemonade. It's carbonated water not brandy!!! After questioning the price the cashier replies "I'm not the boss I don't make up the prices" disgusting!!

Coffee absolutely wonderful and served with a smile and alacrity.. Sadly the choice of cakes and buns weren't that special. Granted it was 3.30pm so the best might have gone. On the bright side - I saved myself from extra calories!!!! Ambiance lovely and the armchairs were really comfortable.

Appallingly run kitchen. Lots of hard working kids doing their best to service visitors but get treated like absolute garbage by managers. Witnessed one individual getting screamed at in front of both staff and customers. Doesn’t exactly set a good example and is totally unprofessional.

The food is extremely expensive for what it is. Ordered a pepperoni pizza to come with 7 slices of pepperoni and mostly just cheese on a thin crust of bread. The veal pasta is a tiny portion literally child sized. And the burger came with horrible oil soaked fries I couldn’t eat. Don’t charge exaggerated prices if you’re not prepared to offer the food quality you should be offering. Greedy owners.

Very poor service. Waiters ask and push for tips in the most impossible to tolerate manner. Huge number of wasps around the outside tables. Food - very average considering the prices. Don't waste your money.

Went with friends and looked forward to a Sunday roast. Very disappointing as the beef was tough and gristly, potatoes hard like they had been reheated. The whole meal was barely warm. We asked the waitress to report back to the kitchen, when she came to take our dessert order we asked what the response from the kitchen was, only to be told she hadn’t said anything to them. How can they improve if they don’t know they’re doing anything wrong.

Both stars earned entirely by the stunning venue, copious gravy and the friendly staff. Prices are extortionate. Roast chicken breast was 80% bone and brown meat. Roast potatoes unlikely to have seen an oven and tasted like average boiled potatoes. Pizza was slightly undercooked, lacking flavour and had very little tomato to be seen. To be fair the roast carrots were delicious. Absolutely cannot justify the cost. Would consider coming back for cake and coffee but certainly not a meal.

9 of us enjoyed a very well presented and very tasty afternoon tea at the Savill Garden ( organised by Benugo). One was gluten free. The china was delicate and beautiful ,and a good range of sandwiches was on offer. We took some of the food home as there was too much of it to finish on the day. We definitely will come again. Very good value for money! 😊

Got taken to a table, very quickly, then left for to sit there for ages, it wasn't busy either, staff seemed to have no interest in the customers. Waited 15 minutes then left, unsated. Very disappointed. Was looking forward to it.

We sat outside on Bank holiday Monday for coffee and cakes. Service was fairly slow but friendly. Scones were reheated so not that pleasant. Good coffee.

I was recently at Saville Gardens for a Mothers Day lunch and the food was awful, I ordered a vegetarian Sunday lunch and the vegetables were barely cooked, they were too hard to eat, it was so disappointing. My son had the pasta, and it was vile, he couldn’t eat it. I am shocked that such a well know destination has such poor quality food to offer people and it’s expensive, I expected more for the price we paid! I have eaten here in the past and the food has been better quality, so I don’t know if the chef they have in the kitchen just doesn’t care? I do wish these establishments would pay for quality staff, in the end it loses them customers, I won’t be spending my money again at their restaurant.

Food is nice, service is incredibly slow. The older guy was grumpy and not attentive at all. When dessert finally arrived it was without a spoon and the waitress huffed when I asked for one. Pathetic

Service today was poor. I clearly wasn't making any sense when I made a should order of coffee, and trying to pay for it was just as painful.

Food was lovely however the whole experience was ruined by the waitress called Daisy who seemed uninterested in our requests and kept repeating its coming in reference to our drinks and food even though we waited 30 mins for drinks and nothing came and over an hour and a half for food. I have a small baby and I made sure to order everything straight away however she decided to explain that another table got our food by mistake which is absolutely ridiculous and not believable. Everyone that came at the same time as us had already had their food and left I think this is unacceptable and very disappointing…

Delicious English breakfast! The pork sausage was high quality, and everything was well cooked! The seating is lovely, bright and spacious

We visited Savill garden and stop for a lunch in the restaurant. What a surprise to find some of the best dishes we ever had! We had lamb chops, duck legs, and pizzas. Everything was delicious with generous portions, great sides, and a delicious curry sauce. All for a reasonable price for the quality of the dishes. Also worth trying are the wood-fired pizzas, made in beautiful pizzas ovens out there! Even the pizzas are much better than most of the pizza restaurants you can find in London. The service was also excellent, fast, and friendly. We will definitely return to Savill only to eat, as it is worth driving to have a beautiful family lunch and a great experience. Highly recommend

Re-visited as a party of 4. Lovely gardens and interesting sculptures from local artists. Gardens always well tended. Visited cafe. Slow service and some items not available despite being just after midday. However,it wouldnot stop us visiting again.

Oh dear not sure what has happen to the service and quality of food for breakfast in this restaurant in the last month (since we last visited). 4 people with 4 drinks orders, 4 main breakfasts and 1 pastry were ordered. Tea came out with milk that taste off and had to be replaced. Asked for well done meat on all four orders, sausages were anaemic on all the orders. Requested no tomato on one order and received it. Had to ask for butter and jam for the toast and only got the butter. Had to chase the pastry as never received it, the waitress forgot! The avocado on toast was a joke - one ice cream size scoop of avocado is not sufficient on a piece of normal toast cut in half with two poached eggs. Our family of 4 will not be returning!

Restaurant look very nice food good but service need another training. First lady which served us really rude thinking she know better than anyone. When we asked for extra mayo for dish she said there is some on the table I'm sorry but raw eggs in mayo should not be on the table outside in that hot weather we asked for one new cold politely. She brought one worm from other table with really rude attitude when we asked her to take it cos you could see layer of maye separated from the rest she took it with her attitude so we end up with no mayo at all. We ordered the same meal my partner get it but I was waiting for my. After 10m we asked if someone can check what is going on with our order. Waitress brought lady which took out order she said we ordered just one when my partner clearly said "two fish and chips" even if she heard just one when she was taking order she should double check and she did not. When we waited for respond we find out that our cutlery were dirty with some old food stick to it. We asked for new set. After 15m when my partner food was nearly cold we get respond from waitress that my food will be ready shortly we asked for both warm at the same time to be serve. She took it but she wasn't happy we asked for manager. We were trying to explain the whole situation to the manager but the young lady did not let us by interrupting all the time which was really rude. We asked for meal to be done at the same time for both of us we also get new waitress which we were really happy with her, her name was Julia she was really helpful and polite. Manager said he is sorry about what happened and we don't have to pay. We finish our good food with amaizing Julia help and we wanted to pay for our food us we felt like was worth it but they said it's on the house. If you would like to go there I do recommend but be careful for the service.

The building is great and the cafe has a nice interior, but the food isn't good. We ordered three different cakes and each one of them was inedible. The scone, the carrot cake and the "strawberry cream" cake were so dry that not even coffee&tea made it possible to get them down. For the price you pay for a tiny slice of cake you'd expect better. Furthermore they were really slow with clearing plates so that wasps were swarming the tables.

Took my sister for lunch, both ordered fish, chips and mushy peas, it was ages until our drinks arrived, then a while until our food arrived. Mushy peas were like soup, chips small and slimy, had one mouthful of fish and immediately knew the fish was off, it smelt off, we paid for drinks and left, £15.95 for meal, certainly not worth it,very unhappy

The food was fine. As you would expect for a cafe in a park. A good price point too. Service was dire. I had to ask for my drinks twice and the length of time I had to wait for food and a cake was disproportionately long. There was no acknowledgement or apology from the server. Plates were not cleared in a timely manner meaning that wasps were attracted to our table. Small changes could make this a very pleasant.

Very efficient staff and fast service. The only criticism would be the lack of choice for someone dairy intolerance. All the pizzas had a gluten free option but no dairy free. Most of the other meals had cheese or milk in. I had the child’s chicken nugget meal as this was one of the few options available

The restaurant is in the large main reception building along with the cafe, shop and ticket office. Our lunch was delivered very quickly. The lentil shepherds pie with sweet potato mash was incredibly bland but the pasta and fish and chips were good. The high point was he garlic bread.

Good service and good food after a lovely walk around Virginia Water. Reasonably priced and very calming atmosphere. Dogs are welcome and there is a variety of covered and uncovered seating out as well as inside seating. It is not required to book as you may turn up. They do have plenty of seating though.

Very disappointing visit. Come specifically for breakfast and made sure arrived on time ( just after 11.15 - breakfast orders advertised as until 11.30). Despite a bit of a queue was seated quite quick and someone took my order. Someone then came over and said no more breakfast orders. So it was a wasted trip and wasted parking. Previous visit we were still eating and someone came to give us our bill. We said we might want to order something else but he seemed insistent. Was just about to pay and I realised it was someone else's. He apology. He came back with our bill and said do you want to order something else then? But by then we wanted to leave.then went off no real

Took 50 minutes from being seated to get our breakfast (1 eggs Benedict and 2 poached eggs and a sausage). Staff were rude and unhelpful and food was lukewarm at best when it finally arrived.

We experienced really bad service when we visited. I tried unsuccessfully to get a waiter’s attention for over 20 minutes. In the end, I went up to a waiter to ask if someone could come and take our order - still no one came. We gave up and left in the end. Really disappointing as the setting was lovely and the food looked good on other tables

It is situated right by the lake. There is outdoor seatings too. There is a shop adjacent to the kitchen. The food is average but a bit pricey, but the ambiance of the place makes up for it.

Ordered a spiced pulled pork with apples and fennel slaw. Description stated “ Braised pork shoulder, BBQ sauce, sourdough bread & chips”. You would expect a large slice of sourdough bread, with everything on top and the slaw and chips on the side. What I was greeted with was a very small portion of slaw and a ciabatta bun (not sourdough) with a SLIVER of bbq sauce (I did ask for more sauce and the waitress kindly brought some over). Not only was the presentation disappointing but the portion size and the flavour as well. Menu was misleading in what to expect for £13.50. The manager did come over and apologised and said they informed the chef but still misleading.

Shocking, overpriced, poor service. Claims to be 'dog-friendly' but doesn't allow dogs inside? Ridiculous. Weak, lukewarm tea and yesterday's cake. Take a picnic.

Service was friendly and helpful. Coffee was over-roasted and average. Food looked good but we didn’t buy. A nice place to have for a stop on a walk around the park.

I went to there yesterday. We ordered two peppermint teas and a peace of Chocolate and orange cake. I just found out they charged unknown item apart from my order. I tried to contact them this morning but they didn't answer...

Only two types of sandwich available, so no real choice. Opted for egg, mayo cress. The sandwich had mayo dripping from the sides. I would estimate only half an egg was used, estimate teaspoon of watercress. I asked for more watercress and prob another teaspoon added. All I could taste was mayo. Disgusting value for money at nearly £4

Popped in here for a light lunch today, was really surprised how quick the service was. The waiters were really attentive and friendly. Had the soup of the day which was really tasty and homemade in the morning. My brother had the children's chicken gojons and chips. They were both hot and really tasty. Sunday lunch looked really good.

Tip:You can't have takeaway coffee in the garden.

Nice cafe and gift shop. Very posh merchandise like ornamental tea towels and lavender painted plates and wood carved hippy things. Cafe is great with indoor seating and pleasing curved roof. Outside is a mini plant shop too.

Great size, really spacious. Good availability of indoor/outdoor seating.Generally good menu offering (when certain items are available) but continually poor service.

Stunning cafe and shop. Fabulous fragrances, toiletries and homeware all arranged in a fantastic layout. Bought the lavender pillow spray, lavender toiletry kit and lavender EDT - all smell utterly gorgeous. The EDT especially is just amazing. Will be back to buy more from the range no doubt!!

Very welcoming and friendly, Pot of tea not as full as it should have been but more water provided when lack shown. However the Pain au raisins was absolutely scrummy 😋

Visited today as a guest unfortuneately to wet use pass.hopefully it will get replaced to my friend. So went in restaurant for lattes Also ordered croissant and a side of bacon. Croissant was cold. Bacon arrived much later cremated. So waitress said she would order again. When it finally came it was as bad as first lot plus I had eaten my croissant. Latte was lacking in milk.so was reordered really just as bad as first one. Think machine lacking in milk .I did ask if it was one shot and was assured it was. Such a shame When we have been in past used small coffee shop and always good.

Slow service but pleasant waitress

Takeaway from hatch next to main entrance - coffee and cheese and ham toasted baguette. £7.10. service incredibly slow and baguette as non toasted as a non toasted thing on a non toasted day in non toasted land. May as well have had it straight from fridge. Never again..

Endless gardens of incredible colours, textures (near and far), planting, ancient trees and modern touches throughout all maintained impeccably. Really striking modern architectural waved roof integrates older heritage carpentry and shelters some of the large terrace. . Has such a great contrast with the beds and small meadow on the way in. Wonderful, relaxing and tiring! ... from all the fresh air and stimulation. All staff we spoke to were so helpful, non-pretentious and very friendly. Amazing to achieve all of this whilst maintaining a safe Covid Visiting environment.

Coffee was nice but service was sloooow. Ordered 4 drinks and cake for each; cake came about 15 mins after the drinks.

Terrible food. I had a prawn linguini with 1 prawn and we had a spring salad for £10 that was 90% the red lettuce you get from a plastic bag from the supermarket. Make matters worse the my stomach didn't like the linguini ! Expensive bad quality food. Sorry.

Beautiful place, but the food was really poor, especially given the price. The Salmon on my Caesar salad was cold dry and chewy. I was expecting a cooked piece, so it might be good to let people know on the menu.. someone else on our table had fish and chips.. the fish was very oily.. the burgers were okay. Service was very friendly - but please watch out if you're using a high chair, most of them seem to have broken straps!!!

Made to feel really unwelcome on our visit (22nd Aug, 2020). Asked to access 'Kitchen' twice and on both occasions was told "only if you are purchasing a main meal". Sorry, what!? If I want just coffee and cake (which is on the menu by the way) I'm pretty sure I am still a valid customer. Ignored this advice and joined queue anyway. Wife's latte turned up as a cappuccino! Seriously poor customer service. Avoid if you can and take your own food/drink instead.

There are two cafés in the same large building, either of which is good. The Kitchen, to the right as you go in, has a great selection of lunches as well as cakes. Lovely flavours in all of them!

We visited out of season and were unable to walk in the gardens due to poor weather and the risk of falling branches. We were too early for lunch so we took cake and coffee. When the lunch service started, two of us had the soup of the day- not particularly tasty and very overpriced! The restaurant is spacious and very open, which means that it’s not cozy. I would be willing to try the restaurant again, in season, but I would not make it a destination of choice.

I went for breakfast this morning. I had a full English (1 of each item you’d expect with two eggs) plus an extra sausage with a can of fizzy, £15.95. As a member with no discount I think it’s stupidly priced. I would normally pay £7 for double each item at a cafe, but this wasn’t noticeably better. Nice place but too expensive.

Beautiful place to stop after a long walk. Nice atmosphere, not too expensive. Good for families :)
