The worst fish and chips we have ever had, went to burham to have fish and chips at the jolly fryer unfortunately it was shut. So gave sauda village other try. Never again the chips were black the sausages were tasteless and dry. Fish was dripping in oil. The table outside was filthy had to clean it ourselves. I don’t know how they got a 5 rating from EHO

Cold sausage, cold savaloy pancakeroll filled with mush, chips sogy. Haven't been to burnham on crouch before but if this is the best you have, close it down and start again, utter rubbish. There is a reason this place only accepts cash.

We popped in to get a takeaway fish and chips lunch, having not been here for ages. It hasn't improved. The batter was soggy (and rather oily) and the chips were only just cooked. Sadly even the mushy peas were watery. What a pity they can't take the time to learn how to fry properly as I guess this could be a popular place if they did. The price was about average for fish and chips these days and the service quick enough.

We visited the cafe on Sunday 22nd Nov. The guy running the place was shouting and swearing at the young girl (who was probably 16 years old) at the top of his voice, he was throwing stuff around and then was blaming everything on the girl to us customers. If we hadn't already paid, I would have walked away. Hope the young lady gets a better job or he gets sacked. If that was my daughter being treated in that way, he'd be needing new front teeth!! Nasty piece of work. Take your custom elsewhere please.

What a vile place. Firstly, no such thing as hygiene! I asked them 3 times to wipe our table (even said I would clean myself), the girl then cleaned our table with the vinegar! Man cooking had a long beard and long hair, no hairnet *puke* If I’d have known this prior to ordering and paying, we certainly wouldn’t have stayed. We waited a VERY long time for food, ended up going in to ask where it was and he had forgotten to do ours. So when we finally open the box, the whole family gasped. It looked gross, over done, soooo much greasy batter and a tiny bit of fish inside. We managed a few chips, a little bit of the fish.. fed the rest to the dogs and binned it. It was very expensive too. I’m not one to leave reviews but this place left us all shocked and fuming. Shut it down!

My family purchased our meal, consisting of 3 portions of chips,a savaloy sausage, a battered sausage, 2 gherkins and a hallumi chicken burger, which was small for a staggering £5.80!!! and the chips tasted refried and soggy. The whole thing came to £18.20 (this did not include the 10% you receive on collection meaning we should only have paid £16.38) Basically try and avoid at all costs if you want food that tastes like it was pre-cooked BEFORE purchase and overly priced small portions.

We visited today and ordered the cod bites and 3 large portions of chips. The chips were ‘ok’, but the fish was absolutely caked in oil to the point that that there was a pool of oil in the tray of chips. They don’t appear to have any idea currently about social distancing as we could only get ‘shared’ condiments and the guy in charge wanted to charge us 50p for ketchup. It was the only downside of visiting the area

My wife and I always visit the Oyster Pit, next to the war memorial, when we visit Burnham. At the moment you can only eat outside, and there are no plates or cutlery - presumably because of current restrictions. Don't let the sparse furnishings put you off, the fish and chips are excellent: tasty fish, a lovely light batter and chunky, hot chips. It is cooked fresh so you may have to wait. My wife had a sausage in batter and saveloy. Also excellent. Worth visiting.

I visit Sauda Village every so often on trips to Essex - It's a little gem in Burnham. The haddock is succulent and battered to perfection...The chips are always consistent. Do pop by!

Had scampi and chips from here and I have to say it was the worst I have ever had. The chips were only just cooked and soggy and the scampi was disgusting. Tiny and brown as they were so overcooked. Just hard lumps of batter. Never ever again!

This is possibly the best fish and chip shop/restaurant in Essex! The fish is wonderful, light golden crispy batter and juicy fish inside - you can't get better. The chips are also very nice and I suggest that unless you're a very big eater, you order a portion of chips between 2 people as there are loads! Lovely, lovely, lovely!!!

Visited the area recently, there were 105 people in our scout group which were catered for, food was ordered for 5pm and was ready on time, all food was hot and cooked well, have used this shop on a few other years for approx the same amount of people and it has always been great.

This is my local chippy, they do good food, but 9/10 times you’ll have to wait for it to be cooked - normally about 10 minutes or more. So as per the subject, good if you can wait.

Absolutely love Sauda Vilage - Oyster Pit. We always go here for chips, even when we are getting pizza or kebabs because they are the best. The service is sometimes slow but that is because they are all fresh and cooked properly. Good choice of dishes including battered mars bars. They also serve a selection of ice-cream which the kids love.

Haven't been to this chippy in Station Road for years as quality declined and fish and chips greasy. Decided to give it another go and what a transformation - perfect batter and chips were super. Now we don't have to travel so far for a chippy! Please keep up the good work.

In all honesty, both of the fish and chip shops in Burnham (Sauda Village and Jolly Fryer) are very good, however, if, like me, you are a vegetarian, then the only choice for chips is Sauda Village, as Jolly Fryer use dripping to fry their chips.

Always go to Sauda Village for fish and chips when we visit Burnham-on-Couch. People might find prices a bit expensive but the food and service are worth paying.

Sauda Village isn't much to look at, just a shack really, but the fish and chips are superb. Freshly cooked so you have to wait a while, but worth the wait. My wife and I had the cod and chips and Mother-in-Law had the rock. Reasonably priced as well. The staff are very polite.

stopped using this place a while back as i found the fish was not what it should be, ie it didnt taste like cod should, not in my opinion anyway. anyway gave it another go a few days back as the other chippy has ceased tradind, this time asked for a large cod, what i actually got was a small fish (not sure what fish it was) in a large batter coat, con trick.nothing else to say about this place, will never go back

Having grown up near the seaside, I've had a lot of fish n chips over the years, including places like Whitby etc. However, today's fish n chips at Sauda was one of the best ever! Just perfect. Very crisp, light, tasty didn't leave a greasy taste. The cod was thick, flakey and full of flavour. Lovely place to sit near the boats too. I'd come back to Burnham-on-Crouch just for these fish no chips! Thank you :)

The fish and chips were hot and tasty. It's a nice location on the walk along the river near the boats and historic pubs. The serving staff were very thoughtful and brought an extra plate out so that my toddler (who was sharing my chips) could have her own plate.

Indoor and outdoor seating available with a lovely view of the river. The 10 minute wait we had was well worth it. The cod & chips was fresh and very tasty, the batter on the fish was "just right". If you're on the river front at Burnham-on-Crouch, treat yourself to fish & chips you won't be disappointed.

Overlooking the riverside at Burnham on Crouch. Outside tables for alfresco lunches, good view if you are tall. Good and good value fish & chips. Better view if you eat from the public seats, more civilised; plates, cutlery, at the cafe's own. Have been twice; has not disappointed.Opens 1130 but not in full swing till 12

And I mean 1st class! 7 of us were seated and served within 10 minutes notice that we were coming! Very good service, polite staff. We were all really pleased with our meals especially the cauliflower cheese and tasty gravy. Will return for sure! Geoff Grove

Visited this place for lunch on the way home from a shopping trip, the first thing we noticed were that the two ladies serving both had very untidy unkempt hair, none of them were wearing any sort of headwear to keep their hair off their faces, the welcome wasn't very warm either, the pies were slightly overdone but hot and the mash was just warm, the pies did not have a lot of flavour to them but there was a noticeable twang to them, possibly mixed herbs not quite sure, the meal was passable but doubt that we would eat there again, the hygiene issue needs to be addressed as we also noticed that the staff were also dragging big bags if potatoes around in between serving although they did put on a a pair of rubber gloves to do this but I doubt they washed their hands after taking the gloves off.
