Sarto in Leeds

I've had loads of great experiences here - it's now our go-to. Staff are lovely! Amazing pasta and small menu which I really liked. Great veggie options!

The interior is nice and has a relaxed vibe, which I liked, but the food itself was nothing special. I was expecting something on par with Onda in Manchester, but it didn’t quite hit the mark. The biggest letdown was the temperature of the food, it wasn’t very hot when it arrived, and by the time I finished, it was cold. Flavour wise, nothing really stood out either, which was a shame. On the plus side, the staff were really friendly. Overall, it’s a decent spot if you’re after a casual meal, but I wouldn’t rush back. There are better pasta places out there.

Pasta was still hard after a 40 minute wait. The staff couldn’t have cared less about our table, we had only a main and were there for two hours trying to get hold of people. We had two pints and some sangria and only mains which came to 115 pounds, awful quality for just some pasta (which was small). Please don’t believe what people say, would not go back.

The pastas were INCREDIBLE!! Loved it! Also, I couldn’t eat peppers and I did not see it in the menu at first, but they were so kind about it and changed it immediately. Very friendly and kind staff, great experience. Thank you!!!

Starter: Beef tartare and focaccia with balsamic dip. Mains: Crab tortellini and something I can’t remember but covered in a layer of Parmesan. Deserts: Afogato and creme brûlée. Excellent setting and food, pasta cooked perfectly al dente. Shame that it’s another establishment that imposes a discretionary service charge.

The kitchen is central to the dining area which creates a great atmosphere. Very good quality pasta dishes.

Top notch pasta and sauces ... And good selection of small antipasti dishes as well .. Excellent Italian option, only slight downside is that you wouldn't call the dining room cozy ..."canteen like" might be a little more like it ! ...Great food though, don't let the ambiance put you off

Used to have some amazing pasta. Last time was a bit of a let down unfortunately

We went here based on a recommendation, and we love fresh pasta. I ordered the seafood spaghetti and my daughter wanted the buccatini ragu. The ragu wasn't available and neither was the spaghetti so I changed my order to buccatini and daughter had the buccatini with tomato sauce. The seafood pasta wasn't really seafood pasta as there was no seafood in there. The sauce was good but that's literally all there was. My daughters food was really quite bland and dull. The staff were attentive, the building is nice (if slightly cold) but we likely won't be returning.

Delicious fresh pasta and range of starters. We've visited twice and had a lovely time both occasions. Would recommend the focaccia and arancini. Only small complaint was that the bucatini aglio e olio was unexpectedly very spicy! Service is lovely and the restaurant is nice and spacious - the tables aren't too close together and there's space for your bags.

Nice tasty selection of Side, Main, Desserts and Drinks. Gluten free, Vegetarian & Vegan option is also available. Lovely friendly staffs. Variety of seats.

The best pasta I have ever had in Leeds. Their pasta is freshly made. We have loved everything we ordered from the menu. We came here based on a review on google and it did not disappoint! Would highly recommend for anyone who wants to have a taste of an authentic pasta, and most importantly the staff were very lovely to us and welcoming! Shoutout to Sam he was the best! They even got us a complimentary ice cream as its our last day in Leeds :) Who doesn't appreciate an amazing service?! :)

Nos sentamos en medio del restaurante esta vez en una gran mesa de estilo comunitario con otra pareja. Gran sensación social y el personal es relajado y amable. Buenos precios para platos de calidad bien hechos. La única desventaja fue que hacía un poco de frío y calado, pero esta fue la semana de nieve más fría en Reino Unido en años, así que supongo que era de esperar. Gran comida, gran relación calidad-precio y la botella de Merlot era bastante decente también. Volveremos pronto

This is my favourite pasta place in Leeds! The food is great quality, freshly made, tasty and they have options for everyone. The portion size is just right and they have a great selection of wines to enjoy with the pasta. It's a casual place with a great atmosphere and really friendly staff! They change the menu often which is great for trying something new when returning, which you absolutely will want to do!

2nd time trying after a great first visit. Was excited to bring my husband for a meal pre-theatre. Found the ambience lacking, the acoustics of the restaurant are so tinny & loud it can be abit jarring. Staff were friendly enough but just stood chatting for most of the time, again have no issue with staff chatting but it really did seem like they were just having a big social. May not have helped that there seemed to be so many of them with little tables so stood out more. A guy came over to take our food basically barking at us and felt rushed so he could go back to talking to his pals. But the two others a person with a shaved head & a blonde lady were very attentive & friendly. The focaccia was very oily, it came with a huge pot of olive oil and balsamic, you had to dip the bread in quite far to get to the balsamic that it was basically dripping with oil. I mentioned this to the waitress and asked if they could give us some with less oil she seemed happy to do so but they seemed confused - talking about it at the kitchen (open kitchen). With 4 of them deciding what to do, she then brought it back and it was honestly like a big pot of balsamic vinegar. It felt like they’d got annoyed about it and just took the piss a bit. Again I could be wrong but they’d dumped some oil out and just poured loads of balsamic in, it looked like tar. Maybe this is a training issue. Just a tip I’d make the dipping bowls shorter (the tallness being abit of an issue with so much oil) and with less oil so you can get a good oil-vinegar dunk ratio. I might be a saddo but bread oil & vinegar is one of my faves. And shouldn’t be hard to get wrong. To be fair reading this back I sound like a weirdo, but if you’d have been there you’d have known what I meant. Pasta was delicious - nduja & the fettuccini. As was the arancini (great balsamic sauce) pear frangipane. Will try again as food is great & hopefully would be a better visit. But for £75 was a bit disappointing over all.

Sarto has a very classy and welcoming vibe. The food was top notch and the service was impeccable. We tried the fettuccini in chicken broth and the radiatory with sun dried tomatoes and pesto for mains. Both were fantastic to taste and great portion for a main. The focaccia with olive oil and balsamic was amazing too! As a pasta lover, I’ll be back to try the other menu variations:)

Come aquí con amigos. No había una gran cantidad de opciones en el menú. El servicio fue bastante rápido. La pasta estaba bien, pero no memorable. Todos teníamos platos diferentes, y todos sentimos lo mismo, eso estaba bien, pero un poco agobiante. Lejos del restaurante parecía demasiado brillante también. En general, no hay grandes problemas, pero no volveríamos.

Really lovely fresh meal, great portion sizes and decent prices. Atmosphere isn’t quite as cosy as what we were after, but certainly a nice interior. Staff were nice, but not super attentive - felt a little bit rushed rather than a nice sit-down meal.

Food was great; a limited menu done well and good value. The service was also friendly and worth the included service charge. Atmosphere was difficult due to the terrible acoustics (due to unrelenting hard surfaces and no sound absorption).

Not many vegan options, but what they did have was incredible. We had the pasta pomodoro and focaccia bread!

Food is to die for. Service was lovely and the vibes were great. Lived in Leeds for six years now and can’t believe I’ve only just discovered it.

SARTO is great, and ideally situated, for a quick pre-theatre meal

Attended before a gig, early Friday evening. Why add ingredients to a dish that aren’t on the menu? My friend ordered lamb and mint pasta, not everyone likes spice so why add chilli flakes and not mention it on the menu. Alternative dish ordered, specifically asked for no pepper, guess what covered in fresh pepper. My pork and n”duja pasta lacked flavour and the pasta was undercooked with far too much bite to it. Staff all kids, no point in saying much.

The servers were all extremely friendly and accommodating. Amazing menu. Only issue is the communal seating but I don't like people so I'll let them off there.

I was craving some authentic Italian Pasta and after a lot of browsing, came across this wonderful restaurant. Nestled in a cosy corner near Leeds bus station, this place is a gem for all pasta lovers. Honestly, we made a reservation at the last minute and though we ended up arriving a bit early, we were seated right away. The Arancini, we ordered was delicious and so was the Fettuccine pasta with wild mushrooms. We got a seat adjacent to the window and enjoyed our meal whilst watching the moving traffic on a Sunday afternoon. Would like to try the other items on the menu on my next visit.

Went to Sarto after celebrating our sons Civil Partnership. The staff were so accommodating, and the food was delicious. Very authentic Italian pasta. 👌

I’ve been all over the world and had A LOT of pasta, but my goodness this was divine!! My advice is to get a drink when you order as you may have a little wait for the food but it is SO worth it

Amazing date spot! Had some pasta tonight with my girlfriend and had amazing food with better service! Was unsure on wines so Carson (our server) offered us a few tasters to make sure we were happy. Portion sizes were great. Defo coming again. Thankyou!

Visited for the first time during restaurant week (unknowingly) with friends. The food was lovely, but there was quite a wait. I asked for no cheese with my pasta and was served cheese while another table got my order. The server almost did a straight swap before the chef realised and re-made both. Was also disappointed when I realised a lot of the desserts had run out. Expect this wouldn't have happened on a normal day, but it wasn't the best first impression.

Estábamos deseando visitar Sarto ayer para experimentar el menú pre teatro. He reservado una mesa para 5. 30 y mencionó en el cuadro de comentarios que nos gustaría una mesa con fácil accesibilidad ya que mi marido está en silla de ruedas. Al llegar al restaurante nos encontramos con un corto tramo de escalones en la entrada a la que pregunté cómo podíamos entrar en el restaurante solo para que nos dijeran que estábamos en un edificio catalogado para que no se pudiera acceder. Obviamente nos decepcionamos, pero entendemos perfectamente que no se puede acceder a algunos edificios. Mi razón de esta crítica es el hecho de que no nos dijeron antes de llegar a comer, no es fácil conseguir mi marido alrededor de esta es la razón por la que siempre menciono la silla de ruedas al hacer una reserva, una respuesta rápida del restaurante habría ahorrado tanto tiempo y energía.

Called in here last minute before a gig at the wardrobe. The staff were very friendly and although all the tables were full, made room for us to sit in the window seating to enjoy our dinner. The food was gorgeous, very tasty, decent sized portions. Everything tasted homemade and well thought out, pasta was fresh and cooked to perfection and the sauces were delicious. I am not sure how often dishes change but I had a lamb ragu dish which I really enjoyed, my friend had a gnocchi which again she thought was gorgeous.

Pasta was incredible, I like how many of the flavours are not typically what you’d find. I’ve been here three times over the past few months, ordering different things every time and it has always been nothing short of a delight. I have recommended many people here and they have all loved Sarto’s. The staff are all lovely as well.

Came for the pasta!! Decor very nice, a bit canteeny though. Could do with some cute little table decorations but I appreciate they might wanna keep things simple. Acoustics realllly let this place down for me, trust me, it makes a huge difference once you get past 30 years old lol. Food was great - tasted like Italian Italian not just British Italian! One comment I'd make is that the beetroot with the labneh needed more seasoning and the chimmichurri was a bit oily. Everything else was fabulous. Oh, and your toilets are not mobility friendly (that I could tell - LOTS of stairs). Service great & with a smile.

Me encantó la pasta aquí! Visité con un amigo. El lugar tiene un ambiente muy tranquilo y relajado con un servicio muy eficiente. Sirve exclusivamente pasta así que no te molestes si no eres fan. Por suerte, soy un gran entusiasta de la pasta, así que me encantó aquí. Tenía un plato de setas y era precioso. Muy buena gama de cócteles disponibles también. Mi única decepción fue el pudín, ya que me pareció demasiado enfermizo. Sin embargo, puede que sea yo, ya que mi amiga realmente disfrutó de la suya.

They make their own pasta which has a lovely texture and flavour. It's a short menu, done well, that caters for all, including vegans. Everyone of our dishes, including deserts was delicious. It's a trendy eatery so expect bench seats and warehouse style atmosphere with its openness, high ceiling, hard walls and bad acoustics. The latter especially poor for those who are hard of hearing. We would eat there again at a quiet time. Only minor gripe was that the cup of tea was only half full. It's not espresso!

We went to Sarto last night and I must say the arancini starters/ snacks were an absolute delight. Our friend also thoroughly enjoyed his venison salami starter. Sadly, the pasta dishes weren't to our taste. However, the waitress handled this with absolute professionalism and with no fuss at all. We didn't get the lady's name [she was friendly and she had very short hair] but she deserves full credit for taking control of the situation and doing everything she could to resolve things for us. Thank you so much.

Reservamos Sarto porque está cerca de Leeds Playhouse donde íbamos después. Tenía un par de tremendos platos de pasta fresca servidos por un camarero que era muy hablador, pero no demasiado. La comida y el servicio estaban en el lugar! ¡Volveremos!

I’d recommend the rigatoni with lamb shoulder sugo for refreshing and salty taste, and campanelle with cauliflower & truffle purée for creamy, less salty taste

As a vegetarian, pasta options can often be a bit boring. This place offers so many different options, all of them exciting and locally sourced. Really enjoyed my meal here and would definitely recommend.

Cené en Sarto con amigos del trabajo, esperando una agradable noche. El ambiente y el personal eran agradables, pero los fettuccini de setas que pedí me hizo gravemente enfermo. Una hora después de comer, experimenté náuseas y vómitos, arruinando la noche. Lo que debería haber sido una comida memorable se convirtió en una pesadilla, dejándome con horribles recuerdos y preocupaciones sobre la seguridad alimentaria del restaurante. Espero que aborden sus problemas de higiene, pero hasta entonces, no puedo recomendar este lugar.

waited like 5 hours for some pasta that was so mid. asked for salt and pepper and it came in a wanky little dish (got right on my nerves) and it cost a months rent for food that wasn’t even nice. everyone that worked there was fit tho x

Went in for the pre-theatre menu. Not much of a selection but I was expecting that but OMG the portion size was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed my starter and fought my way through my main course of pasta which was delicious. Great food. Will have to come again

I had a lovely evening at Sarto. The pre-theatre meal option was perfect and came quickly. Great value for money, lovely staff, I was greeted immediately by a very friendly staff member with a buzz cut (shout out, you were really nice). The food was lovely and the cocktails even better! I can’t recommend enough.

The food was very average for the price. I love the aesthetic of the restaurant as it has a casual vibe. Do not get the cauliflower truffle pasta - it literally tastes of nothing! We had a lovely server who took it off the bill for us but I was left hungry as I couldn’t eat it. Service was also slow… to say you’re only getting a plate of pasta. Wouldn’t recommend. The wine was nice though!

First visit - the starters and mains were beautiful . The focaccia was so fresh and perfect.the pasta was gorgeous, we had the olive and capers and the truffle pasta. The atmosphere was good, service was lovely and seeing the chefs at work was enjoyable. The only disappointment was the cannoli - it looked lush and was whipped beautifully BUT had no sugar in to and so was such a let down. Such a shame as it was not a good end to the evening .

Was here for a quick lunch and was very happy with my time here. Food was really delicious, fresh, flavourful and just the right size portion wise. Staff were super helpful and able to assist me with issues. Now I want to try out more of the menu. I have to go back 😅

Absolutely delicious freshly made pasta with a choice of vegetarian options as well as a couple of meat dishes, and some wonderful starters which included arancini and roasted beetroot and celeriac on the night we visited. Stylish, modern restaurant and friendly efficient service made a very pleasant evening with family and friends. Recommended,

The pasta is really, really good. The restaurant can be a bit loud and it's not the most comfortable room in the world but the pasta makes it worth the trip.

Food was ok but nothing special. Service was appalling. We went as a group of 4 for pre theatre menu. We sat down at 5.30, main course came at 6.40. Show was starting at 7.00. We complained and they did halve the bill but didn’t seem that bothered about it, we got the impression that this was a normal occurrence. Definitely avoid for pre theatre meal!

Food was very tasty but with a couple of dishes needing something more. Vibes were great and service was very good.

First visit...nice welcome had booked and got a nice table and welcome. The pre theatre meal deal not on on a fri sat or sunday. We had starters the beetroot dish was delicious...also had arancini good too. Pasta dishes all lovely tried my own my partners..rather big portions. Bit on the pricey side but jolly good pasta.

This place is just fantastic. Slightly off the beaten track but really well worth a visit. Superbly cooked pasta, friendly service. Can't fault or recommend enough. Has now become our goto lunch if we're in town on a Saturday.

Food was alright, nothing to rave about. Service was awful. Ignored a lot of the time and for lunch took us nearly 1.5 hours. Ran out of half the stuff on the lunch menu and offered no substitutes.

A very laid back casual Monday teatime meal for my wife, myself our sun and his fiancée. Very good service and atmosphere Food was delicious the pasta dishes were large and the leftovers were gladly taken home with us Highly enjoyable

Had heard about the hype over this restaurant and with only a couple of pasta dishes to choose from I did think it would be a life changing experience. When we arrived the restaurant did give school canteen vibes, but the staff were friendly and it’s not all about looks when it comes to a good meal. We had focaccia as a starter, definitely one to share as there was a lot of bread. It was fine but nothing special. I went with the waiters recommendation for my main, the pork pasta and my friend got the mushroom one. When they came I did feel like I was at home and my mum had cooked me spag bol for tea. The pasta came in a boring white bowl and our cocktails came in a basic tumbler. The rose spritz was very tasty by the pork pasta didn’t change my life unfortunately. It was just bang average pasta in a not so cosy or cute restaurant, so if you need a full belly then it’s fine but don’t expect to walk out as a new woman.

Both the top rated plates (focaccia & Rigatoni) are gone on the day we went, and the other plates we ordered was disappointed. Only two street Parking space. Tiramisu was ok but taste too alcoholic.

Sarto has a lovely chilled atmosphere, large windows to people watching whilst been served fresh delicious pasta. We had 3 courses and all were delightful but the service was abit slow at times. Great food and cocktails at a reasonable price.

They had decent portion sizes. My main reason for this rating was the fact that we were charged a £4 ‘cake charge’ for bringing in a birthday cake for my wife when this was cleared in advance with the staff. I rang an hour or so prior to our arrival to check if this would be okay and they said no problem BUT failed to mention they’d charge us for it! This was bizarre as we’ve been to tons of birthday dinners before and never experienced this. I guess this is Sarto’s way of making a birthday celebration special! 😒

Went in with much expectation.Told them it’s a birthday while making a reservation and if it was okay to bring a cake in - to which they replied yes it was. At the end, we cut the cake we bought and got slapped a ‘cake charge’ of 4 pounds on the final bill of 96 pounds. How lame. It’s not about the 4 pounds that’s the issue here - If your staff agrees that it’s okay to bring a birthday cake in, at least make it clear while reserving that we will be charged for it. I’m personally never going back again. Wouldn’t recommend. Pasta was alright, nothing great honestly.

We dropped in and managed to get a table. So glad we did, the pasta dishes were gorgeous. We loved the simple menu and will be back to try the rest of the dishes. The restaurant had a really friendly, laid back vibe and the customer service was excellent.

Booked here for a quick pre-theatre meal on a Saturday evening. Nice food and quite authentic. The starts/snacks felt a bit expensive but the main was good value and a good portion with lashings of parmesan. Very tasting. Service was prompt but my main turned up a few minutes later than my companion, otherwise a great experience.

We booked a large table for our Christmas work lunch and they served us with ease and grace. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and professional and the food is exceptional. We were super impressed. This is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in Leeds

I've been here about half a dozen times so it's probably right I post a review.... It's ace. Well, actually..... do you like pasta? If so, it's ace.

Nice, modern, space with open kitchen front and centre. Focaccia great. Mozzarella with a tasty caponata good too. Fresh pasta not so much and missing that smoother, softer texture. And Rigatoni covered in Parmesan passed off as Campanelle without a request. Substitute pan fried gnocchi very large and tough - nothing soft and pillowy there. The Sicilian Grillo is excellent. We love seeking out fresh pasta whichever city we are in and maybe our expectations where a bit elevated.

Delicious ragu from here. The initial dish I asked for has just gone off the menu, so would have been good to know what when I sat down.

Pretty underwhelming food. Nothing really wrong with it but nothing really great. The gnocchi was rather bland and for the price you pay I think absolutely not worth the money

If you are not in a hurry, Sarto serves excellent food. Wine is expensive. Portions are not big but the overall experience is very positive. Dishes are prepared with care and very tasty.

I have loads of food intolerances, the chefs made me something out of foods I can eat. Very accomodating, friendly and the food was really tasty. 👌

Average Italian restaurant. Does the job for a quick meal.

Disappointing. We don’t get many evenings out and we’d been recommended this place. We arrived at 5.20for a booked table. Our order wasn’t taken till 6pm, that was drinks too. Snacks were nice. 30 mins later we were still waiting for our mains, the rigatoni pigs cheek special. Very disappointing, it was supposed to be with tarragon but no taste of tarragon at all. We asked for a glass of ice 3 times before we got it too. All for £90.

Food overall was great but Chorizo pasta was very oily

I really like Sarto; it's simple and it does what it says on the tin. The gnocchi was delightful, if a little small portion wise. The squash pasta was very saucy, delicious, nice al dente pasta. Overall, nice little pasta joint with a fun atmosphere.

We dined in last night. The wait staff are great, the wine good, vibe nice. But all of the food was so salty it was made tasteless. I couldn’t taste the sweetness of a lovely buffalo mozzarella. I couldn’t taste the squash on my pasta . Because salt masked it all. The chef needs to lay off the salt so the favour of the food comes thru. Please!

Food was excellent, especially the pasta, but slightly to big a plate,,afraid I had to leave some, which was such a shame, but my stomach was well full

ordered a very simple pasta and sauce took 30 mins to arrive there were more staff than customers, pasta undercooked not al dente undercooked.

It's been open a few years now but last week we visited for the first time. Excellent food and exceptionally pleasant service. Great choice of drinks, including local beers. Very well done interior, light and airy. Recommended.

Pasta was nice good portion size. But Couldn’t work out that you serve dessert before coffee. Gave us the coffee then dessert followed about 10-15 minutes later, any italian would be horrified by such order of play.

All the toilets were broken when we arrived. So my disabled sister had to walk across the Street to the local Indian restaurant. It was very tiring for her. There was no staff toilet she could've used instead. It took 2 hours for our meals to come out and we were 1 of 4 tables in at the time. They make their pasta from scratch, yet their sauce is pre made as I saw it in the tub. The meal was nice when it eventually came out. I wouldn't dine here again

I love this place. I've been there half a dozen times, having different dishes every time due to the ever changing menu. I've always been really impressed with the quality of food and service. Great for vegetarians and vegans too!

Really liked this place. The starters were good - focaccia, arancini and olives. The main course pasta dishes were all cooked well. Some uncommon pasta types needed help from Google. Nice desserts. Good service.
