Sapori Restaurant in Chelmsford

This restaurant is sited within the Best Western Atlantic Hotel, the menu choice currently offered is much reduced and not open on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, go elsewhere.

We went with friends to Sapori on the evening of Saturday May 4th, a bank holiday weekend, expecting the restaurant to be full. We should have realised when we arrived that we were in for a poor meal when there were only two other diners in the room. The listed menu on the website had apparently been changed and we were presented with something that had few choices and nothing that particularly appealed. The waitress, who was pleasant, did seem a little embarrassed by this fact. However we decided to give it a try as it would probably have been difficult to find another restaurant who would take walk-ins on that evening. That turned out to be a bad decision. Who on earth puts fish finger burgers on the menu in a proper italian restaurant? The menu looked suitable for microwave cooking of food straight from the freezer and it wouldn't surprise me if that was how are meals were prepared. My starter was classic italian minestone soup - what cook (can't call him or her 'chef') puts what tasted like curry powder in this soup?! Obviously I sent it back and asked for a replacement which I was told was not available as they had run out of it. New menu and two previous diners - come off it! The brie starter was luke warm and the main courses, including lasagne, were poor with no idea of presentation. The lasagne looked like it had been dropped in the dish straight from the microwave. M&S food would have been far superior. My wife's prosecco was virtually flat All in all a thoroughly disgusting meal and I would advise anyone thinking of eating there to think again. Most definitely the worst restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to visit. Best Western get your act together!

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome . Staff were second to none and the food was just wonderful ! Couldn’t find fault with anything ! The chef really looked as though he was enjoying every single plate of food that was being sent out . We were lucky enough to have a table whereby we could see into the cooking area which was Efficient, clean and well staffed.

Real italian food with friendly attentive service. Started with stuffed muscles in a tomato sauce,, which tasted really good. Followed by veal cutlet with tomato and rocket salad, massive portion which all at table tasted and enjoyed! They also raided my chips.... Everyone enjoyed their meal and italian wines, and hope to return next time we are in Chelmsford. Congratulations to all the staff for giving such an enjoyable evening

We stayed at Best Western Atlantic Chelmsford, which has a side opening into the Sapori Restaurant. Nice decore, clean & tidy. The waiter was very professional and attentive. However the food was outstanding. The presentation and food design were amazing, not to mention taste which was probably the best Italian food we’ve ever tasted. The chief clearly has a passion and pride in his work. Thank you Massimo and team, we had a very enjoyable evening.

This is a wonderful restaurant with caring staff and an empassioned chef. I often stay at the Atlantic Hotel in which the restaurant is found and sometimes eat in the restaurant also. The consistency and quality of the meals is always great and I can rely on a relaxing meal or an exciting special any time I go. Their italItadishes are exactly that and taste wonderful and the staff are always friendly and accommodating and make the effort to engage and accommodate guests. If you like italIta food or simply a well priced meal and friendly relaxing evening you have to try this restaurant. And the hotel is a great place away from home also.

Was greeted very friendly when entering the restaurant. Had a lovely pre meal drink at the bar. Then, pleasantly asked if we wanted to go to our table - drinks taken for us, nice touch! Crayfish starter was delicious, followed by the traditional turkey roast, beautifully cooked. Dessert was a lovely apple strudel - amazing. My partner and I were blown away by the lovely dining experience and the fabulous service. Thank you so much the caring waiting staff, the hotel Receptionists and of course, the great team working hard in the kitchen.Will definately visit again.

My partner and I visited on a Saturday evening . It was our first visit and will definitely not be the last. From the warmth of our welcome to the surprise limoncello to finish the meal, it was a memorableoccasionl in every respect. We particularly loved the strong flavours and the eye catching presentation showing real flair and attention to detail. The chef came to see us at the end of the meal and his passion and enthusiasm for the food he serves was clear for all to see. We cannot wait for our next visit.

My friend and I went to Sapori for a pre-theatre meal. The food was wonderful and the service we received from Marta (the manager) was excellent. Marta and the chef knew we were on a tight schedule so the chef started cooking our starters immediately even though it was not quite 6pm (Thank you). Stuffed mussels and calamari starters..... amazing; both had Tuna for the main course ......... delicious; chocolate and pear pie and panna cotta ..... delighful ending to a perfect meal. I would definitely recommend Sapori Restaurant in the Best Western Atlantic Hotel, New Street Chelmsford.

We only discovered this place off of the back of our Taste Card and what a great find! A clean and tidy Italian restaurant with polite, attentive staff and a varied menu at reasonable prices. From an Italian menu I would usually opt for a Lasagne but on this occasion I couldn't leave without trying the 'Barley risotto style with minty lamb ragu and pecorino cheese' A really tasty dish which for a risotto didn't sit to heavy. If you're looking for some tasty Italian food in a quiet setting this would be a great place to try.

I have been to Sapori many times (most months), and not only is it my favourite restaurant in Chelmsford, it is probably my favourite restaurant in the country! The standard of the food is exceptional - everything is freshly prepared by the chefs, including the bread and the pasta. The Mozzarella in the starter is sublime, and portion sizes generous. Warning - Once you eat here, all other Italian restaurants are disappointing. We used to visit even more often, but the management stopped accepting the Taste Card on Fridays and Saturdays (probably a good thing for my waistline!). The staff are always so friendly and efficient, they are certainly kept busy, sometimes it seems as if they could do with some additional colleagues to help. If you’ve not discovered Sapori yet, you are seriously missing out give it a try! My personal recommendations: - Buffalo mozzarella, avocado and tomato salad - Italian antipasto - Spaghetti Carbonara - Chicken Diavola - Beef tenderloin - Pistachio crusted Tuna steak

Went here with a number of colleagues and both the food and service were excellent. Highlights included the mountain of crispy squid starter and lamb ragu barley risotto. This is one of those places where the menu really does spoil you for choice. Good value too the risotto was about £10. Need to arrange a return visit.

Nice surroundings, good quality goodbye , attentive service. Some of the best food I have eaten for some while.

What a little gem. Usually a restaurant attached to a hotel is fine, but fairly uninspired. This offered lovely, tasty, well prepared food at sensible prices. Furthermore, the bar had a good range of beers. Very pleased.

I would like to thank Steve, the Manager, the Chef and staff at Sarpori for looking after us at our team lunch held at Sarpori, Chelmsford. The food was served piping hot and beautifully presented and all for £9.95 for two courses. I don't think you would get that standard of cuisine and service for that price at any other restaurant. Steve was very attentive throughout. The restaurant has a light and spacious conservatory area but also some tables set back in a more cosy setting. There is a well-stocked bar and the décor is very tasteful. We will be back!

This is part of the Atlantic Hotel and serves Italian food - we were there as part of a group visit and enjoyed a buffet dinner and a set dinner - breakfasts were good hotel standard - service was excellent.

The description Italian restaurant doesn't begin to describe what a fantastic dining establishment this is. All the food is freshly prepared, fantastic presentation, excellent service and above all exceptional food. The seafood is cooked to perfection, the meat succulent and full of flavour and the desserts delightful. I would especially recommend the cheeseboard with 5 cheeses, 2 chutneys and honey with chocolate bread. I can't praise this restaurant highly enough.

Love it here. Every time reminds me how good it is. Calamari is amazing the lemon sole with prawns was amazing. Great value and good size portions. Staff friendly and know how to do customer service properly. Just magic. We will be back. Keep up the effort.

My hubby and I visited on a quiet Sunday evening . We both had a lovely eve . With thanks to Marta the lovely waitress . She recommend the cocoa ravioli which my husband opted for . He loved it!!! . I had the Italian style fish and chips. It beat me. The fish was delicious . Be it very large. We have visited sapori many times and it's always been very good. A special thanks to Marta for making our evening . She was very good at her job.

This Italian restaurant is located within The Atlantic Best Western Hotel. It's been a couple of years since I've stayed here but it is every bit as good as I remembered.

Group of 25 on a Xmas works night out, difficult to find somewhere that catered for all our requirements. SAPORI was a great choice!! I'd heard mixed reviews before going but the food was great, all courses hot and delivered to table quickly and efficiently, can be difficult with large parties. The staff at sapori were excellent. We hit the dance floor after the wonderful food and I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we all had a fab night! £33.95 including entertainment. Would definitely return . Thankyou again

We visited here spare of the moment on a Monday, we used a taste card too so fantastic value for money, the chef introduced himself and offered to cook something for my husband that was not on the menu, we will definitely be returning with friends and family, amazing service and food,

We all had a variety of starters which were all very good - especially the calamari. We also all chose different mains which again were all very good, tasty and decent sized portions the only thing i was a little disappointed was the lack of vegetables offered with the meals - a sprinkling of rocket if you were lucky and there wasn't much vegetable choice if you did order them as sides either.

All OK but nothing to write home about. Better at writing menu s than actually cooking them! Much better places to eat in the town. Cote Brasserie was the best we ate in.

Of all the eateries in Chelmsford, I love going 'off chain' and Sapori didn't disappoint.

Nice restaurant, Italian themed menu, so dissapointing that lasagne not available 2 nights running. Special lasagne oven (is there such a thing) was broken, but to be fair, alternative choices were excellent

What a perfect Italian meal I had in this place!!!and I know what I'm talking about cause I was living in Italy once!this is a real Italian I have to say!delicious!also the waitress I had was lovely,I think she's polish,very polite and professional.For sure I'll be back!

We went here on the taste card and had pretty much 4 courses for £35. Amazing is the only way to describe it. Ravioli was to die for as was the calamari. We will definitely be back. Top drawer. Great service with a smile too.

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times now and the experience has been consistently very good.

Disappointing food offering at both dinner and breakfast could be so mush better with a bit of help and guidance, shorten the menu keep a check on food temperatures, don't serve warmed up lasagne pasta and the micro wave do not work well

Excellent food, with large portions well presented and served with a wide choice of vegetables; attentive service, especially from the Italian girl who waited on us. We especially enjoyed the butterfly chicken, the best one ever tasted; but also the tuna steak with pistachio was excellent! We find particularly interesting the weekly "specials", which give the opportunity to taste Italian food from different regions. We'll certainly come back to this restaurant when in Chelmsford again.

This is our 4th visit to Sappori and we not disappointed . Once again met by a lovely smiley staff member who was attentive but not obtrusive . I had the avocado and mozzella salad to start . Lovely and fresh and could taste the cheese . My hubby opted for the deep fried Brie . He said it was delicious . I had the sea bream for a main , really enjoyed it , I didn't like the stuffed tomato . Very rich fish stuffing , I found it over powered the Bream so left it . Husbands spag Bol was delicious . It was happy . We too full up for desserts . Always a bonus that they accept taste card .

Not many choices for vegetarians, ordered a veggie dish only for it to come over with meat in...I was told there was no way a dish like this would be vegetarian, even though it was marked as vegetarian on the menu that I had to point out to the staff. Won't be back personally but to be fair meat dishes may be very nice?

We received a very friendly greeting on arrival but the food sadly let the place down. The menu looked very interesting but one of our mains had to be returned to the kitchen - twice!!! We will not be returning.

I LOVE this restaurant, one of my MOST favourite places to take friends and family to eat.

I've been to Sapori quite a few times now, as it's a local restaurant to us, and what can I say - portions are large (bordering on enormous), and you'll certainly leave well-fed if you visit. All dishes come with a side dish of vegetables and potatoes, which is great if you order one of the meat dishes, but a bit surplus to requirements if you go for something with chips, or pasta (although fantastic if you are really hungry). The food itself is generally decent, if not spectacular - my husband often has the burger (which is almost indecently huge!) and I've enjoyed the wild boar parpadelle and also the veggie option, stuffed aubergine. The only dish I've had here that I didn't think was so good was the mushroom ravioli, which at least on the occasion I ate it was rather overcooked. We've yet to manage any desserts here (far too full after our mains) but there is a decent choice, but the starters are nice, though we usually don't order them as the main dishes are so generous. There is always a daily menu too, which is a nice touch.

Had a lovely meal for my son and i , for the price we paid it was excellent value. the manager and his staff were very attentive, the surroundings and atmosphere were such that you could have a nice conversation and enjoy the relaxation.

I had an evening out with some friends and decided to take them to the Sapori. They were surprised at how fabulous the food and service was. If you live in Chelmsford or are visiting you MUST try out this restaurant.

I was going through the trip advisor list trying (and failing) to book a table for the same night when my partner uttered the words 'my hairdressers partner is the chef at the Atlantic hotel why don't you try there '. So I did and booked a table easily. When we arrived there was only one other table full and as we at 3 more filled up. So my first thought was is this going to be rubbish! Be assured it isn't. The menu is Italian but not the faux Italian of places like Prezzo. This is cooked by head chef Massimo and his team and in the main is excellent. The starter course was delicious and ranged from chicken skewers to tempura sardine. I had seared tuna steak for main and it was perfect. There are a few bits that maybe need changing (the Quennel served with the tuna is an example) but overall excellent. There are some negative reviews on the site and I can understand why as if you are used to 'plastic' food then this chef cooked feast can challenge. At the end of the meal the restaurant manager told us that on person ate free if we had a certain food card (and my daughter did) so we saved 20 pound. It works out about 25 pins a head which is compatible to most of chelmsford now and I would urge people to try it as the food is really good and deserves to be better known.

Staying at the hotel you think having a restaurant the food would be really good quality

Excellent! Despite already having a large party of 40+ dining the restaurant accommodated our party of 20+ with no trouble. Hayden dealt with everything with a smile and made you feel like nothing was too much trouble.

We booked the sapori for my mum and dads 50th wedding anniversary and have not been disappointed .

Our 50th wedding anniversary and we chose Sapori based on previous experience. 14 0f us dined, 3 generations. and a fabulous time was had by all. They curtained off a section of the restaurant giving us some privacy and at the end of the meal supplied us with a huge anniversary cake at their expense. Nothing was too much trouble for the waiting staff and chef Massimo made sure our coeliac was well looked after. Cannot praise the whole experience highly enough.

Not the cheapest, £60 for 2 starters, two mains and a bottle of nice wine. However, food very good and well presented. Service very good too. Like the idea of being able to see the food being cooked.

Having chosen this restaurant mainly for convenience I was very pleasantly surprised. Delicious smells, good choice on menu. Generous portions. Fab staff. Loved it.

Visited this restaurant with friends on a Sunday evening. The restaurant is situated within a hotel. I had stayed at this hotel before, but until now had not used the restaurant. Both the hotel and restaurant were very quiet, but perhaps to be expected on a Sunday. We were shown promptly to our table, the restaurant is set out nicely and well presented. The waiting staff were polite and friendly. A choice of a specials or al a carte menu. Drinks orders taken and arrived promptly. We all had 3 courses, and the food arrived hot, and very good sized portions !!. A small mix up with one of the meals but this was attended to immediately.

Some hotel restaurants are not to be recommended but this was very good. This is Italian food with pizza, pasta, fish, meat, vegetarian options etc. I chose from the weekly specials - prawns and then chicken followed by Italian rice pudding with a lovely glass of dry white wine.

We go to Sapori every month or so, the menu is varied and reasonably priced the food is top quality and the portions generous. It is presented very well and I've always enjoyed my meal there.

Steer clear, kids struggle to eat here.

Tonight I went with my family to Sapori in Chelmsford (Atlantic Hotel). We have never been so disappointed for a long time, I used to eat there before it changed to an Italian Restaurant and it was always enjoyable. But if I say I am just about to eat my McDonald's apple pie and McFlurry, it might give you some idea. The portion sizes were very small, they forgot to give us the vegetables until we asked, one of my daughter's meals was so bad she couldn't eat any of it. The only thing that was nice were the Starters, we did not try the deserts as we just couldn't face anything else. We should have realised when we walked in because it was empty and now we know why.

This restaurant lacks atmosphere and it is very expensive relative to services provided. I would not recommend it but there are not many restaurants in this particular area

Having had an ok experience 3 years ago, i thought it was worth another go :). There was definitely an improvement. The food had much more flavour, particularly the wild boar stew which was very good. The staff were very pleasant, however it still lacks atmosphere. The very good rating is basis using a tastecard...l wouldn't like to pay full price here.

We chose Sapori for an impromptu evening out and had a thoroughly enjoyable three course meal. We worked out this was our 7th visit, over a few years. We have always had good meals here, for lunch and dinner, in groups of 2, 4, 10 and 12 and love the authentic Italian cuisine. As the chefs and waiters are mostly Italian, it reminds us of some great holidays in Italy! The menu is varied and the presentation is thoughtful and interesting. I started with sardines, perfectly cooked with a breaded crust and with very few bones, diced flesh only of tomatoes, rocket and a parmesan crisp, my husband had prawns in a very tasty tomato sauce. We both had duck with cherries in a port wine sauce and my husband said it was the best he had ever tasted. We followed this with excellent desserts and then sat in the comfy chairs for coffee! The waiters (male and female) were friendly and attentive yet kept their distance. We arrived early and were dining alone to start with, but the atmosphere soon warmed up and everybody seemed happy. We felt compelled to write a review as so many people we speak to don't know about Sapori, even if they live in Chelmsford. We came over from Maldon, had wanted a relaxing evening out and that's what we had. Thank you.

I enjoyed a really lovely meal here with my husband and our two friends. We had a bottle of prosecco and red wine and each enjoyed a well cooked, really tasty meal. The starters looked amazing, presented really well and tasted great - excellent generous portions too. I couldn't finish my main. We used our tastecard so got some meals off. The waiter was really nice and polite. My only fault was another table who rudely told another table to quieten down - the other table was not disturbing anyone else. I thought the table who complained were rude and pig headed. Other than that - we had a lovely night!

Visited on a sat eve with my husband and mother . The lovely waiter remembered us from our last visit last year . Food was great. Prompt service . The portions were a good size . I had to tuna steak . Lovely presented and tasted good. My husband had the steak . Cooked to perfection . My mother had pasta with a tomato sauce. She is a vegetarian so that was great for her . The bread was lovely . Very filling . We were so full up so we didn't have desserts this time . We like to come here. Relaxed atmosphere and service was top notch .

We went to Sapori for our team Christmas lunch yesterday and we all had a great time! The service was professional, warm and attentive; and the atmosphere was great. The food was excellent, good size portions, lots of colour and flavour and beautifully presented. Three courses topped off with warm mince pies and coffee, excellent value for money, we'll be back next year.

We came for our office Christmas lunch on Friday, the food was delicious, the service good and the staff friendly, the food was also very reasonably priced. We all enjoyed it and would definitely come back

Christmas meals can often be a risky afair as restaurants production line the food for the mass audience - not so at Sapori. My orchestra had their Christmas meal at Sapori Chelmsford this week, and this stereotype Christmas meal scenario couldn't be further from the truth. A good festive menu to choose from, excellent, friendly and attentive service, big portions of tasty food. served with a care and in a lovely ambience. Thank you - we will be back next year.

Had our annual xmas work party here on Friday 5th December 2015, food was dreadfull, but party atmosphere really good, dont think we be going back shame

Dreadful food worse in Chelmsford only saving grace was dj and our crowd. Everyone's meals were awful. Canelonni worse ever I am amazed they admitted to cooking it mixed vegetables from a tin in filo pastry...I think.. and some sort of overcooked egg. The beef was so hard that it was passed around the tables to see who could cut it.. vegetables overcooked and bland.. starts Italian pancake ham with clumps of parmessen. . Desserts were like baby food or burnt. Worse place we have been to....

Grt venue, atmosphere and set up but set xmas menu really let it down. The beef was shoe leather, cannelloni shocking, the creme brulee was burnt we still had a great night just real shame the food let it down vx

We came to your restaurant for our works Christmas Party last Saturday and I do not think we will ever come returning. How the chef can send out food like he did on Saturday amazes me it was awful. The fishcake starter was so over cooked it was rock hard and dripping in fat, the Turkey dinner was stone cold except the roast potatoes. The vegetables were so over cooked I could not tell you what they were.

I've eaten here 5 times in the last week. The staff, especially Stefan, are great. Very personable and very eager to please. The food is good and the wine choice limited but good. I would happily recommend this restaurant. I especially enjoyed the Tuna steak!

We've been here 7/8 times over the past six months, our favourite restaurant in Chelmsford. It would be good value at full price, especially the desserts at just 3.50, but with a tastecard it's a bargain.

My husband and I went to the sapori restaurant which is in the Best Western hotel on Saturday evening.We had a warm welcome from Steve the head waiter.Whilst having drinks in the bar area we were given a menu so we could choose our food and wine.The food was first class,well presented,hot and very tasty.Good portions served professionally.The desserts were delicious as was the cheese board.We had a lovely evening and will be recommending the Sapori to friends and family.

My wife and went to this restaurant for an evening meal from their a la carte menu. It was a fantastic experience from the friendly greeting by the wait staff to the last bite of dessert. We could not recommend this restaurant enough due to it's ambience, classy décor and superb food offering.

Went here with family to celebrate fathers birthday . Excellent food and service . We all had pasta dishes and couldn't fault them. Desserts we're the same. We will be visiting again . Love this restaurant .

Do not visit, informed by the waiter that this restaurant is the best in Chelmsford, are you joking??? We left during main course!! Best restaurants in Chelmsford = the county kitchen and 59 new street!!! Please do not visit!

My husband and I visited the restaurant on a very quiet Sunday evening. There wasn't anybody in the restaurant when we arrived . That didn't put us off . Greeted by a friendly waiter , we had a drink At the bar . We were shown to our table . The service was prompt,friendly and unobtrusive . I had a delicious stater of mozzarella,tomatoes and avocado . My husband was delighted with his garlic mushrooms. There was also homemade bread that I couldn't stop eating .!!! . Mains were just as delicious . Seafood risotto for me and spaghetti bolonasgne for my hubby. The risotto was just a tiny tiny little bit salty but couldn't fault the flavour of the dish . . We both had dessert and coffee and throughly pleased with our experience here. They Also had some good vegetarian options.

Had two meals here in short succession and both were quite good, nicely presented with efficient and friendly service. Quite reasonable prices too, although we did not have any alcohol with our meals. Decor a bit tired, with plastic flowers on table. Fine for a business lunch or dinner, but not somewhere to linger. Nearby bar area also not very large or terribly comfortable.

I have just got home from a fantastic night at Sapori. We were a party of 14 (8 adults & 6 children) and we turned up having not booked a table. The manager was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. The service was timely, and the food was worth all 5 stars. Thank you Sapori, we will be coming back.

Sono stato con la famiglia in questo best western e ne sono rimasto piu che soddisfatto.Vicino al centro e alla stazione che si possono raggiungere tranquillamente a piedi il locale presenta delle camere comode e spaziose con grandissimi letti supercomodi. Il servizio ristorante eccellente , piatti presentati con maestria e professionalità dai sapori della miglior cucina italiana , ma rielaborati con sapori nuovi e ricercati x un connubio dai risultati piu che ottimi. La colazione con ampia scelta di portate è tra le migliori della cucina internazionale tra cui da non dimenticare la pasticceria moderna e buonissima. Consiglio questa location a chi si vuol fare anche una una vacanza a Londra vista la facilita del raggiungimento de City con mezzi pubblici , e consiglio agli italiani che si trovano nelle vicinanze di Chelmsford di fare un salto per ricordarsi i sapori della loro terra o x provare una cucina internazionale piu che ottima.

Interesting menu with an Italian theme. The starters are lovely but massive. We had calamari which was gorgeous and baked asparagus which was fresh and tasty. I had the seared tuna with a pistachio crust twice because it was so gorgeous. Wine choice was good and service is polite and unobtrusive.

My partner and I dined here for Valentines night as we had travelled to Chelmsford from Scotland to visit family. They were running a 3course special Valentine for dinner! Both of us thoroughly enjoyed what we had to eat, both agreeing our main courses were crammed with flavour (Beef tenderloin and Asparagus chick with potato pie). The wine is also well priced for a city hotel restaurant as are the big table bottles for water (£2 for water and £15 for Rose Wine) the service was also good and we both agreed one particular waitress (didn’t catch her name) had a very infectious smile!

I've taken my time to write this review, as we visited Sapori for our office Christmas get together. We (eleven of us) were bitterly disappointed with the food, service, and then the attitude of the General Manager when we complained. My suggestions would be, don't bother to complain about the food - they'll just pass it off as authentic Italian cuisine, in fact, just don't bother to give them your business, trust me Prezzo or Ask are far better.

I went mid-week and couldn't complain about the meal or the service. There is a conservatory on the side for daytime eating or parties but I ate in the main restaurant area which is certainly suitable and comfortable. Well done everyone.

We would normally go to town and sample the various restaurants but this time we decided to stay at the hotel and try the Sapori Restaurant, well we weren't disappointed, quirky and innovative menu and with our Tastercard we got 2 for 1 which was such a good value. Attentive staff and nice food.

Gorgeous food attentive staff my only criticism is lights could be turned down a bit for a more relaxing atmosphere Oops nearly forgot anchovies in bread really !

A lovely meal but in a very odd venue, the hotel isn't easy to find and there is absolutely no atmosphere in the restaurant/bar. A shame because the food is very good but unlikely we'd make an effort to return.

I do like Spaghetti Bolognaise - had it as a starter along with a Sirloin steak - Portions were not massive, but they were appropriate, so no complaints. Menu is fairly broad, with something for everyone. Tasty food, well presented, a fine experience.

The restaurant is very modern and the staff are very polite and friendly. I ordered the mackerel and tomatoes on twice cooked potato squares. the makeral was very nice but the potatoes were raw so I failed to see how they could have been "twice" cooked. I then had the prime fillet of beef with foie-gras which was very nice. this came with vegetables and 1 little new potato cut in half. You really needed more vegables and potatoes. It's not the cheapest place to eat but the food isnt too bad. I would go again if I was in the area.

Had a nice meal here with my partner, ok food and drink which was over priced for the venue i think ! CHEFS IN THE KITCHEN WITHOUT HEADS COVERED come on guys its the law!!! No hairnets or hats and i could seen straight in the kitchen! Also as i drove up to the entrance they were all smoking out the door ! Not what i wanted to see! Otherwise food ok

I don't understand why (as of today's date) Sapori is rated 53 of 166 in Chelmsford. It should at least be top 10!

The restaurant is Italian and located within the Best Western Atlantic Hotel. The food is not just Italian but a Mediterranean mixture. Superb menu - spoilt for choice. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. Extensive wine list. Highly recommended

Had dinner in the Sapori Italian restaurant on a Friday evening over the Bank holiday. It was a pleasant surprise. The food was exceptionally good and the prices were very reasonable. The staff were attentive and helpful and the service received was also very good. One of the nicest Italian restaurants I have been in. A place to go back to.

Plenty of room with comfy seats to meet up and have a drink before being shown to table which was beautifully set out. The Starter was very tasty - Grana padano cheese risotto with a sprinkle of toasted pistacchio, but alas the main course Panfried monkfish wrapped in bacon on a bed of cannellini beans was tasteless - the monkfish had clearly been frozen and was devoid of all taste. The dessert was a birthday cake supplied by us and was presented by staff with sparkling candles. After asking for plates and forks, the cake was promptly taken away to be cut and presented to us - nice touch. I am undecided whether to give the restaurant a second chance as I was so disappointed with the main course - it's a pity that an alternative dish was not offered to me when I explained why I could not consume more than half the dish - it was a lost opportunity to regain my confidence in my dining experience at the restaurant

I went to this restaurant for my work experience and was treated very well. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Having worked in the kitchen for a week I think very highly of the chefs, hygiene and the dishes that they make. I saw with my own eyes all the ingredients used were of a good quality and were always fresh. I tasted lots of the dishes and they were all superb. My favorite was the Linguine with prawns, saffron and courgettes, they couldn't have made it any better. The dining area itself has a very nice atmosphere and the room was presented very well. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this restaurant.

Dined here with a group of colleagues. We requested a 'quick' turn-around, due to being on our way to a meeting. I phoned through the pre-orders from the menu at Lunch time and confirmed the time we would be dining etc.

During the last year i came several times to this Hotel as i work for a company located in London. I use to travel a lot and while being abroad is not that easy to find an Italian Restaurant where you can eat a real italian food. Here i found a a very polite staff both in reception and dining room and, as i met all of them, a real italian kitchen staff !! Congratulations you make me feel like home!

I went here recently with my husband for my birthday and both the food and service were brilliant. I had the steak and my husband had the fish and both meals were amazing. Great value for money. The staff were attententive but not obtrusive. Nothing was too much trouble and i can highly recommend a visit to this restaurant.

I have just had a superb lunch at Sapori Chelmsford (15.3.13). The food was excellent, the menu is large and varied, the plates were hot, the presentation is excellent, the wine was very good and the service was spot on. We eat out a lot and are very fussy about restaurants but we had no complaints about Sapori.

It was our first time at this restaurant but will certainly not be our last. The food and service were excellent served in a nice, light and friendly surrounding. The food was more authentic Italian cuisine rather than a food chain Italian.

Have already been in this hotel were i found myself very well and i immediately took the opportunity to taste typical italian dinner.

Should have known better! Only booked 2 days ago for mothers day, when our preferred restaurants were fully booked! Car park? Still don't know how to get into it! First sight - glass fronted - looked nice but - only 2 tables occupied. Alarm bells! On arrival not only empty but cold - my daughter never took her coat off and she was not the only one,although the staff did turn the heaters on when asked. My husband wasn't advised when booking, of the Mothers Day menu which was very limited (3, 3 and 1 choices) - particularly for children - and cost £24.95. My daughter didn't like any of it and the rest of us (4 people)weren't far behind. We asked if we could select from the normal menu NO. In short all the food was poorly cooked - an 'Italian' that serves up clumped soggy pasta - really! Grey veal, dry chicken, wouldn't give it to my dog. They did offer my daughter a spaghetti bolognese, which again was a clump on a plate she asked for parmesan cheese, got something, definitely not parmesan. Dessert was a trio of disgustingness. The waiter tried to tell us it was all home made, when questioned about the obviously not home made tart case, he admitted it wasn't lol. I would hazard a guess that the restaurant is struggling financially the curtains are falling off their runners, stained, overhead lighting is broken, bulbs not replaced, temperature cold, toilets cheaply decorated (although clean), also double up as cloakroom for your coat. Bill given in shoddy worn vinyl 'New St Brasserie' (the original restaurant) wallet. Salt in the pepper pot, pepper in the salt pot - just no attention to detail. My daughters spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread (oh and the trio of disgustingness that she didn't want or ask for) we were charged £24.95 for. They obviously need the money. Take note recipe for success, mix decent food, ambience/atmosphere, reasonable price, good service and integrity, you will be full every day.Take a look at The Lion in Boreham, The Star in Ingatestone, The Cuckoo in Radley Green and learn. It was soooo bad it was funny.
