Do not go to this cafe. The manager was awful. The staff are rude. I have been drinking 'vegan' hot chocolate here for months. I ordered one at the counter as normal ... 'one vegan hot chocolate please' ... I was told that they didn't have a vegan version - and never had. I told the manager as this is not acceptable and is also very problematic for people who are actually ordering vegan options due to lactose intolerance ... I was after nothing more than an apology and making them aware. He told me it was my fault for not checking and asking properly. WHAT!!!?? He embarrassed me in front of other customers in the queue and shouted at my boyfriend for no reason. Will never go back here again! There is a lovely independent cafe with friendly staff and beautiful pastries across the road and a few doors up - highly recommend spending your money there instead (also they also unndersatnd the importance of food allergies and veganism).

Today, my mother who has a hospital appointed ‘urgent use’ toilet card asked the person working in the shop whether she would be able to use the toilet and was extremely rudely, told no. Despite this shop remaining open throughout the pandemic even when they were meant to be closed, and allowing people to sit in when they are not allowed, used ‘you’re going to give my customers Covid’ as a reason to stop her using the toilet. My mother does not have Covid, nor does she have any symptoms, and she was wearing a face mask. It’s evident from the fact they’ve completely ignored the rules of lockdown and Covid restrictions, that this is a completely unjustified reason to stop someone using your toilet, especially when they have a medical toilet use card. My mother came home extremely upset and distressed, and embarrassed that she had been treated this way due to her medical condition. When she asked the member of staff for their name and who the manager was, he said ‘Andrew, I’m the manager what you going to do’ as if to threaten her. This is absolutely disgusting behaviour from someone who is meant to be the manager of a shop. Safe to say we will never be using this shop ever again, and would highly recommend that people avoid it.

This cafe is a gem in so many ways and could so easily earn 4 to 5 stars. Good coffee, tasty snacks, and staff that are truly excellent, in that they excel at their craft. Unbelievably low prices, considering the cafe is in the heart of Stoke Newington. The decor is minimalist, 12 small wooden tables, one raised table to seat a group of 6 to 8 people. Unobtrusive but pleasant soundtrack; Sapid has a lot to recommend it. BUT. That Unisex loo! Thick with black mould and dust, a broken toilet seat over a bowl discoloured by calcium buildup. It’s a mess. Very upsetting and quite unnecessary, given all that the cafe has to offer. I meet friends there, maybe have a hot drink, but Iavoid the loo if at all possible. I really hope the owners get their act together. Sapid deserves better.

We were enticed in by the lovely breads displayed in the window, but unfortunately the toasties were made with average thin white bread and standard packet thin ham. The place was empty, I think because everyone was across the road at the busy bakery (which is where we headed to after for a stronger flat white). We’ll be back once the venue ups it’s game in this competitive city! Good luck.

It looked great from the outside, but a list of things were not great. 1. Forgotten cake which I had to fetch in the end. 2. Lukewarm drinks, both of us. 3. Run down toilet, always a sign of a forgotten place. 4. The cake we both would have had suddenly appeared on our exit. They weren’t short of space either. We both thought this place wasn’t very good.

We stopped here on a very hot day for cappucino and soft drinks as they had a back garden. It is unloved, no plants, but a nice space. When we got up to leave, the bench outside caught on my trousers and ripped a hole in the bottom. This was due to an uneven piece of wood sticking up slightly on the seat. On my way out, I reported to the staff that they should fix this so that no other customers damaged their clothing. The female staff member replied 'that's ok' and returned to what she was doing. To be fair the male member of staff asked if I was ok so at least he made an effort. A nice cappucino but poor service and a ruined pair of my favourite summer trousers.

One of the staff members that served me was friendly, the other one wasn’t. Ordered a ‘Green’ smoothie. Was quite warm when it arrived, wasn’t tasty but was drinkable. Usual fancy sandwiches, sweet stuff and healthy foods and usual drinks hot or cold and, over priced. These kind of shops always are. Smoothie wouldn’t make me come back just for it, but, I may sit here if I meet a friend locally again.

Came in over the weekend with my partner for their new juices. We waited nearly 15 minutes to be served some semi cold and bland green juices, which cost £7. The most frustrating part was that the cashier was also the juice maker so whenever a customer came in, she would stop making our juices. We literally saw around 7 customers come and go after we had ordered. One lady came in just before our juices were being blended and she opted also for the green juice, which meant delaying our order further as they began to add her ingredients into the same blender. What was perhaps the final insult to injury was that there was not a single apology for our wait. We use to come in regularly for coffees and treats. Will no longer be coming back. Absolutely zero customer service.

I often pop to get a take out coffee en route to clissold Park. The coffee is great and the staff are nice, the danger is resisting the cakes. If you can’t the almond croissants are great!

A really nice place for a coffee and cake/pastry. Friendly efficient staff who know their regulars but make the casual diner feel equally welcome. My cap was a bit milder than I like but was still very good and the almond croissant was superb. Overall the cost was less than my local Costas/Nero and was a far more interesting experience.

I visited Sapid with a friend for coffee, cake and a chat. You step out of the hustle and bustle of the street into a relaxed atmosphere. A real haven of peace. There was a fabulous tray of enormous doughnuts by the door, and an equally terrific display of cakes at the counter. The coffee is excellent, the exact strength and hot enough but not overly so. My friend chose a doughnut which seemed to have almost half a pot of jam inside. It looked delicious! I had a salted caramel brownie. What can I say? It was the very best I have ever tasted. Gooey, rich and decadent - a life changing brownie! I will most definitely return!

I often go to Sapid, because the coffee is easily the best for miles. I have been coming more often to work for a couple of hours and have breakfast or lunch. The toasted ham and cheese sandwich I ate one day was so delicious I decided it was probably a fluke, or I was in a particularly appreciative mood - so I tried it again, twice. Just as good. Amazing. Best I've had for ages.

I booked a table for 18 people at to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We arrived at 1 pm, expecting to have lunch together, as I had clearly stated when making the reservation. Unfortunately, the entire experience was a disaster. Upon arrival, we were told to order through an app, but after trying for 30 minutes, the app kept saying they were too busy to accept orders. We had no choice but to go to the bar to order directly, where we were told the wait time for food would be at least an hour—despite it being peak lunchtime. After waiting patiently, one of our friends went back to the bar to place an order after confirming a new dish choice with his wife. When he returned to the bar just five minutes later, he was told that they were no longer accepting *any* orders at all, and that he would have to order through Deliveroo and have it delivered to the restaurant! This was at 1:30 pm, during peak lunchtime, for a group that had made a reservation specifically for lunch in the restaurant. To make matters worse, after waiting over an hour, we received below-average food that was overpriced and disappointing. This is absolutely unacceptable for a place that claims to cater to large groups and events. The lack of communication, delays, and poor service completely ruined what was meant to be a special celebration. If you’re planning a large event or want a decent meal in a timely manner, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. I regret choosing this place for such an important occasion. ---
