Santoro in Stockton-on-Tees

Prawns like bullets. Garlic mushrooms bitter. Pizza base thin and awful. Pizza topping salty and canned olives. Pasta sloppy and tasteless. Complained only to have an angry chef storm to our table and shout at us that his food was amazing even though 3 of us left our meals as they were inedible. A totally grim experience. All to the theme of noughties terrible indie music.

Came as a group of 8 on Saturday 13th April. The service was excellent - the staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was lovely - I had the cheese soufflé and the sea bass - both excellent. It was a lovely buzzing atmosphere last night and we will be back soon!

Really wanted to rate this experience 5 *, however, what started as very good attentive service descended into awful, counted at least 12 'passes' by serving staff where there were empty bottles and glasses on our table, only cleared when asked then had to wait 10 minutes for further drinks to arrive only after asking where they were ...being fair, wine was excellent..a white Rioja ... Main courses ... my wife had a burger which initially was presented without the stated cheese topping .... when it finally reappeared was extremely 'dry' and not particularly palatable ...my fish pancake was ok, however, lacking in much taste At least 2 tables near to to us left before being asked for their drinks order ... possibly sat for 20minutes ! We were offered free desserts and lemoncellos which were declined ... nothing taken off bill .... obviously do not want repeat business despite not being full on a Saturday night ... we know other restaurants in Yarm full to bursting which will benefit from our custom going forwards

No atmosphere. Small seating area near window with long thin area of tables behind. The area at the rear is dreadful. It feels like it has been good a while ago. Ordered food which if I was being generous would be called average.

Ok Italian on Yarn High street. Starter was excellent, Calamari nice light coating and flavoursome chewy rings.I was not so impressed with the pizza- the dough base was way too crisp ,resembling a frozen shop bought offering. I should also point out they made a charge of £1:00 for chili oil outrageous when you are spending £100!!! With a couple of drinks a bottle of red and a desert the bill came to a ton so not overly good value in my opinion. I will give them a second chance though,it could have been just an off night for the pizza chef.

Attended here on a strong recommendation, and it did not disappoint. Staff are very friendly, a charismatic front of house just on the right side of cheeky, but very helpful. Food is excellent, generous portions, so starve yourself beforehand to make sure you have room. In hindsight, I'm surprised we got a booking on short notice but very happy.

We were a party of 9, a mix of 22 to 74 years. Restaurant not very busy but service very slow. We were offered drinks quite quickly but not offered a wine list. We then waited 30mins to order starters and a further 30mins for them to come. Pate was good but antipasto was just weird and had only 1 small piece of cheese and a lot of aubergine!. For main course the pizzas were awful, lacking cheese and obviously had been kept warm for ages. Sea bass portions were small. Sweets were ok but far too creamy. The music was far too loud and inappropriate, and seemed to be an album called "The most indulgent guitar solos of all time". The maitre d' was over friendly, false and a little bit creepy. It's such a shame as we thought we might have found a decent Italian restaurant in Yarm but we won't be going back.

The food was quite nice. Let down by the service. One pizza was clearly forgotten about so one of us sat waiting for it for 10 minutes whilst everyone else had their food. Someone on the table next to us also thought it was funny to throw tea lite candles around. One of them landed in a drink and management didn't offer to replace/refund the drink. Very disappointed.

Fantastic staff. Great food. Had a steak medium rare and it was cooked to perfection.

I used to go here a lot, but this must be the first time in 3/4 years, and unfortunately I won't be again. Couldnt relax, or take my time with eating as it courses came out quickly, and the food came out only warm in some cases, didn't taste unique, or authentic, wasn't cheap either.

Very nice restaurant . Unfortunately the wine we wanted wasn't available, and when we ordered the second choice , they brought the wrong one . After the main course, we asked for 10 minutes , three times we were then asked if we were ready to order. We ordered desserts and coffee, and for some strange reason the coffees were served before the desserts . The service certainly left a lot to be desired , in saying that we all really enjoyed the food.

Firstly the wine we ordered was out of stock . When we ordered a replacement, they brought the wrong one ! The starters and mains were very nice indeed . We asked for a 10 minute break before dessert , and 3 times we were approached to order . We ordered desserts and coffees , and bizarrely the coffees were brought first . The food was very nice, but the staff are not professional at all.

Never been to a,restaurant where the staff was more than friendly and more than helpful. The staff at Santoro went above and beyond. A BIG MASSIVE THANKYOU FOR A GOOD NIGHT OUT. P.S. THE CHICKEN SUPREME WAS 200%. Along with the potatoes, salad and the garlic bread.

Wonderful night at Santoro Restaurant, 12 of us for family Birthday, the Staff are brilliant, they look after you so well . Meals were Delicious and nice and hot we didn't have to wait to long before we all got our food, the only downside is Parking , but that's always a problem in Yarm , but it doesn't stop me from going back to Santoro Restaurant I am very happy to park à long way away and then having a long walk because believe me it's worth it for the food and the atmosphere of this restaurant.

Went to Santori's for the first time last night - food was fantastic (scallops starter was amazing) and my brother who'd come over from Liverpool said he had one of the best steaks he's ever had. This is a proper Italian restaurant, unlike some others in Yarm! Will definitely be going again.

8 of us for dinner. Food was very average. Service was good. Decor has never changed in over 20 years. Won't be rushing back.

Visited tonight with my husband. 11th August. We had booked a table for 6:30pm but arrived early and they happily accommodated us. We ordered calamari and cheese soufflé for starters. The cheese soufflé was lovely, nice and fluffy and light but the calamari was very poor. It was breaded and very chewy. You could tell it was bought in as every piece was exactly the same size and shape inside. When the waiter came we did say the soufflé was lovely, an mentioned the calamari wasn’t very nice. He did say that it was made there and it was fresh. I definitely think that was incorrect. It was very poor. The main course came and it was lamb cutlets and I ordered seabass. Presentation was very good. When our order was taken the waitress didn’t ask how we would like the lamb cooked but we were lucky that it came out perfect. The seabass was ok. I wasn’t overly impressed though. The king prawns that came with it were a bit salty. There was nothing bad about it but it was nothing to rave about. It was ok. The strange thing was when our main course came the food was just put down and the waitress walked away without offering us condiments or any other drinks etc. we were served a small bowl with 5 Italian potatoes in and one small salad between us! At £30 for the lamb and over £20 for the sea bass I thought that was a bit pricey for hardly anything to accompany the main. The waitress came and took our plates. She didn’t ask if we wanted desserts or coffee. Actually no one did. We sat for over 30 mins and nobody came back to us. In the end we had to get up and go to the bar and ask for the bill. Which was £74.00. I don’t mind paying that if I think it’s worth it but it really wasn’t. If the service was above and beyond I would still be happy to pay, but again it wasn’t. I really don’t like leaving bad reviews but it’s not cheap to eat out anymore, and it would be great if we got what we paid for, even good service would’ve made my visit a lot different. Yes I saw they were busy. The had a party of 30 in, but there was plenty of waiting staff. I would definitely have the staff train more in customer service. Sad to say I won’t be going back.the total bill was £74, that was for calamari, cheese soufflé, lamb cutlets and seabass. With 1 Diet Coke and 2 glasses of tap water.

I have eaten in some lovely restaurants. But I would say this is one of the best I couldnt fault anything food was fantastic, service was spot on. atmosphere was good. I will definitely be going back here. A must if you are looking for some great food.and a good night. Thank you to all the staff for making mine and my husbands night memorable.

Not the best Over cooked chicken and rubbery cray fish tails No limes to be seen Not enough pots n salad

Having been here two months ago I was a little disappointed by the overall quality of the food and service. After ordering our food we were waiting an hour for it to be served.

Customer service was ok, unexperienced staff, atmosphere was like being in someone’s home in the 70’s which was a bit off putting, had to wait a while before we were given menus, not given drinks menu. Ordered home made patè, was ok. Partner got garlic mushrooms, which should of said garlic mushroom soup, which was too overpowering in garlic. For main I got a pepperoni pizza, pretty basic, nothing wow, oily as well, not just the natural oils from the pepperoni either. Partner got aubergine bake, where it was hot but the aubergine was raw, don’t know how that I doable but somehow was managed. Didn’t stay for dessert, wanted to get away from the boring atmosphere, better restaurants in yarm, but if your easily pleased and basic then yeah probs be good for you.

The food and service was spot on. I am happy to pay more for quality but this restaurant has high quality at a good price. Marco was fantastic and made our night with his personable service and humour. It was our 5 year wedding anniversary dinner and we will certainly remember it. We will definitely be back. I would recommend this restaurant highly.

First time I've been here since lockdown. Food very good, service excellent, really enjoyed it 😊. Less choice than I remember, but still varied enough to cover most tastes. Been again tonight and it was wonderful 😌 Staff brilliant 👏 Food very very good Can certainly recommend 👌

Absolutely appalling service, would not recommend in the slightest. Food and drinks came as wrong orders and also when questioned about this and regarding a £7 bottle of prosecco that they were selling for £29 (prices not on the menu) was met with a rude attitude from one of the waiters stating ‘what do you want me to do about it are you going to pay or shall i call the police’ even though we had our cards on the table ready to pay. Wont be returning absolutely disgusting.

One of the nicest and most relaxed places we have ever eaten in. We were here the other week and have just booked in again for Friday night. We try to get here as often as we can and bypass all the restaurants in Darlington to travel to Yarm ,we tend to book the same table were we can soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the crack. The staff are a credit to the restaurant and a few of the family members also work there. It would not be fair to single anybody out ,because everybody works to a very high and professional standard. We are very well travelled and have eaten in some amazing places around the world, During our last meal we were discussing were have we eaten that has been better than Santoros and to us it is pipped to our number 1 by Raffles in Singapore and Champs in Barbados. So for a little family ran eatery in the north of England we could not give any more than a massive 100% for food......service......location and best of all the genuine welcome everyone gets the minute they walk through the door.

As usual a great place for an italian meal , been going for years , still the best place for a meal in Yarm!

Service very slow even when not busy. Manager very weird in his approach to people, very loud and and quite false. Prefers to service certain tables personally rather than cater to everyone fairly. All other staff really good. Food ok, nothing spectacular. Wouldn’t come here for any special occasion cause they don’t really care

Small menu but excellent choice and very nice.

Opted for santoro after waiting across the road in the keys for over an hour. Anyway, welcomed and shown to our table, service was excellent, as for the food, I had the penned pasta, my wife had the meatballs. We also had the most delicious garlic bread ever. All in all, a great find. Will go again without doubt.

We were served by 3 people during our visit and all were exceptionally nice. The food was superb and all cooked in house. Will return for sure. Yarm High Street is full of places to eat so finding somewhere where you don't walk away looking at where you might have had something more enjoyable wasn't an option.

I wouldn’t hurry back here. It felt a bit awkward. Although the bar man was making an effort to be friendly, he was singing badly and continuously and I found it pretty irritating. The other waiting staff were very good. The food itself would have been delicious if not for the fact that it was drowned in oil. You can see the oil sat on top of the pizza and indeed the vegetables and pizza base were also heavily saturated with oil, which was a shame. It looked appetising at first but was difficult to eat and later caused havoc with my stomach.

This is a lively, friendly place with what seems to be a loyal customer base. Despite the modern exterior and the fact it isn't serving pizza/pasta etc, the vibe of the place seems like you've stepped into a small town Italian restaurant of decades past. It has been here for decades, so maybe that's no surprise. The portion sizes seemed a bit hit and miss - some are massive, some small, some are somewhere imbetween. Food quality was fine enough, but not such that I'd go out of my way to return.

First time visiting and it was a really great experience. Food was delicious and the service was top notch. Looking forward to visiting again in the future.

We have been coming for years and the staff are all lovely. On top of that the food is delicious. It is a real gem of Yarm...would recommend to anyone.

I went with friends to celebrate my birthday. I am also gluten intolerant and they made sure everything I had was gluten free. The food tasted gorgeous. We asked for a desert and when I asked what was gluten free it was ice cream I thought it would be boring but it wasn't it had a shot of expresso and a shot of amaretto and it tasted divine. They also sang Happy birthday to me which was a bit embarrassing but nice too. So thank you to everyone at santoro for making my birthday an enjoyable one. xx

It's a nice italian restaurant. The pasta I had was delicious. I got some baked bread with garlic butter while I was waiting for my started. This was nice, not many places do that. Service was great as well. Recommended.

Celebration lunch on a lovely sunny Saturday. Friendly staff, great menu choice. Lots of drink choice too. Prices what you would expect from a nice Italian restaurant. We had 2 different pasta dishes which were both tasty and filling. Lovely Irish coffee and tiramisu to finish.

We come to Santoro’s quite often and it’s excellent every time! Staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome from start to finish! They made such a fuss of my son on his birthday and had the whole restaurant singing to him, the atmosphere was great! Son was very embarrassed but it was hilarious to me! Always a pleasure to come to Santoro’s! Keep up the amazing work!

Came here for a small lunch with a friend, we'd never been in before and it was nice and quiet and looking cosy inside. We were given a nice friendly welcome and sat down quickly, drinks were ordered straight away and were given menus with our drinks. I ordered the calamari starter and my friend only ordered a coffee as he'd already had a big cooked breakfast and wasn't hungry at all. The lady (who i assume was the manager) came over to take our order, when she found out we only wanted a starter and a coffee, she openly showed her dissatisfaction at what we ordered and said to us "you're lucky the owner isn't in, this is a restaurant you know". My friend explained to her that he'd already had a big meal for breakfast but she didn't seem to change her tone, she took our menus away without an apology. We were both shocked by what she said and as a result didn't feel like we were as welcome as when we originally came in. The male waiter that took over from serving us was much more friendly and was lovely to communicate with. The calamari came out in good time and was really nice. Overall we had a nice time there but it was a shame that the lady felt the need to make such an unnecessary comment, it didn't leave a good first impression. If i come back again at least i know i'll have to order a full 3 course meal to keep the manager happy.

This is a relatively good restaurant, with a solid and tasteful cuisine, that is more English than it is Italian. Portions are relatively small and the staff is quite pushy, which we in Continental Europe do not really appreciate. In the rest rooms, hygiene could...
