Sanshan in Bolton

This was the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had. I ordered a 10 inch starter box which was supposed to contain a mixture of starters. Sesame prawn on toast, pancake rolls, dry spare ribs, salt and pepper chicken and salt pepper chips and a tub of curry at £2.50. What we got was 2 prawn on toast, 4 pancake rolls, no spare ribs, chicken balls the size of my thumb nail 2 small battered pieces of chicken and vast amount of chips to make up the box. We also got a few slices of thin onion and green pepper. No sight of any chillies that was supposed to be the salt and pepper of the box. I had to ring them up and tell them we had no spare ribs, they said they had a new chef and they would send me some, which they did. All this for the princely sum of £28. The worst £28 I have ever spent. Needless to say we will never be ordering from Sansham ever again

DO NOT USE shanshan, absolutely disgusting food. Spent over £30.00 on 2 meals with prawn toast and spring roll (rolled pancakes). Crispy chilli beef has never seen any beef and was served in some sweet red sauce…inedible. Special fried rice had the slightest bit of chicken strips in it and some (2) darker strips!! ? Pork.. who knows, but definitely not special. Absolutely awful… you’ll get better Chinese food from McDonalds. Ruined our evening.

Poor portion with the crispy duck, also dried up, hardly any chicken in the chicken fried rice, chips over done, noodles where tasty, prawn toast harly any prawn in them, definately won't order again, be warned!

After a break of 12 months, due to ordering a delivery for 7:30 pm and it turned up an hour early, decided to give them another chance. They need someone who can tell the time. Requested for 7:40pm - arrived at 6:45. No more chances.

Absolutely shocking food! The menu has changed, ordered a mixed starter for two and they said it doesn’t come with sauce when I rang to ask if they’d misplaced it, I also ordered prawn toast starter which didn’t come with sweet and sour sauce either, the starters were very dry and bland, the beef in the starter was almost like solid rock and was inedible! The portion sizes are small as do not come with rice! The beef and mushroom dish was slimy and cooked with too much msg! I would definitely not recommend you to order from here at all! All round disgusting!

Our meal was excellent 👌 we are very fussy eaters but the meat & veg and noodles very fresh , polite staff , clean premises very very tasty food ❤️ will definitely return and recommend

This isn’t the best Chinese food we’ve ever had but it is still pretty good. Along with the usual options there are a couple of other interesting dishes to try as well. We ordered a home delivery through just eat which was easy and punctual. The mixed starter for two was okay and we had four different main coursesAll of which were pretty good. The crispy shredded beef with the best of the bunch. We were self isolating so deliberately ordered more than we needed and it ended up doing us three meals! This meant it was terrific value overall and, whilst we won’t be using every week, we definitely would use them again.

Never ordering from them again. Cancelled our order after waiting 2 hours on new years eve...in 2020

Dear Sanshan, the food was glorious as usual and although the food arrived marginally later than intended was indeed of a high standard. However, I can't help but notice that you now accept onions as payment. Fantastic to see that you're doing your bit for the environment and I was wondering, does it matter which type of onion I pay with? I would hate to embarrass your delivery driver by attempting to pay with a Spring Onion when it was red onion season, I would just die! Thanks for being a trail blazer, and I'll be recommending my local Indian takeaway follow suit promptly. Warm regards, John

Why do idiots post damaging reviews. These must be very mean spirited people. One star because a delivery driver was late.. Anyway ignore those comments. If you understand authentic Cantonese and Beijing cooking, if you understand how few places have a steamer and can present steamed dim sum, if you like freshly cooked beautifully presented generous portions, if you like value for money and prompt service (28 collect orders....always on time) AND if your Chinese friends from Chinatown rate this place THEN this is the place for you. We eat from here once a week, it’s that special

We are big fans of the China Palace which in our opinion says restaurant quality Chinese food. This takeaway will deliver and that makes a big difference and is very helpful. The food is really good quality and they have several different dishes. For example, we had the seabass done with spring onion and ginger and it was delicious. The menu is varied and has several options that are different than the normal run-of-the-mill takeaway. The prices are very reasonable indeed and the service friendly and accurate regarding the delivery times. Definitely worth a try.

We had despaired of finding an excellent Chinese takeaway since moving up from Manchester to Bolton a few years ago. However Sanshan has been a revelation. Their food is freshly cooked, appropriately seasoned and wonderfully- NOT drowned in monosodium glutamate. (The cold left over sweet and sour sauce was still a sauce [and not a sludge!] a couple of hours after our meal. The sweet and sour chicken balls were crispy (as the menu promises), the chilli beef tasted fresh, spicy and plenty beefy (we’ve known a number of takeaways where the coating overwhelms the beef - but not here). Chicken chow mein and the lemon chicken were both excellent. The only frustration was the need to pay cash rather than use a card - but you can circumvent this if happy to use Hungryhouse and pay their fee.

Chorley Old Road has Tongs, Shanghai,A1, and China Palace but give all of those a miss for this new kid on the street An unassuming takeaway opposite Morrison’s, I was recommended to give it a try 4 weeks ago. 4 visits later, and a connoisseur of Chinese food both Cantonese and Beijing style, I am very very impressed. Beautiful presentation and restaurant standard food. Steamed Dim Sum a huge added bonus. Recommend Prawn Szechuan, Pepper Sauce Steak, Hot and Sour Soup, Sea Bass, Chicken Kung Po, Beef or Pork Siu Mai. Reliable on order times, friendly service, are two things that can’t be said for some of the others on Chorley Old Road but apply so far to Sanshan. This takeaway is a cut above all the rest and yet the prices are very very reasonable ( hope they stay that way) A great start to a brilliant takeaway.
