Best fish & chips I've had in a long time - highly recommend 🤩

Honestly, the best crispiest tastiest chips I’ve ever had from a takeaway anywhere in the country! We had the small cod and chips, which is their special on a Friday. Believe me, it’s not small! It was absolutely delicious. The fish was so fresh and flaky and I like the fact they didn’t leave the skin on like other chip shops do in the south of England. The venue is spotless and decor attractive. All the staff were so lovely , sweet and friendly. Really looking forward to going back when I’m next on a day out in Folkestone.

I had high hopes when I came across this cute shop. Scored high as it’s a clean, friendly and great location for fish and chips. Lost stars with the deeply disappointing ‘salt pepper squid’. If I’d known it was a few bits of (what looked like) factory produced battered bits of squid I would never have ordered that. Everything else about the shop is lovely, but I’m scoring the food I ordered.

Delicious fresh seafood restaurant that stays open late when all other stores are closed. We tried a variety of their starters which we enjoyed quite a lot, like the salt & pepper squid and the tempura prawns. The Fish and Chips portions are very large and we tried the catch of the day Huss which was very juicy and flavourful.

Definitely recommend the spicy curry sauce, got a little kick to it you didn’t know you needed. Try it… you won’t go back

Had a delivery with Uber eats tonight , absolutely rubbish, food was cold , batter had separated from fish in a soggy blob and it was all cold , never again

I ordered a large cod and chips . There is no way that it was a cod that was delivered. It had the texture of pollock . Very dissatisfied. I won’t use this restaurant again .

My wife and myself after working hard all afternoon decided to pop down to the harbour for a breath of air as we live in Alkham, it's not far away. we were a bit peckish so my wife hoped into Sandy's fish and chip shop WOW WOW WOW now that's what I call fine dining in a box. As we sat in the car with big smiles on our faces and great food in our tummies- FANBLOODYTASTIC. Dr Tony Sarl. P.S. Please keep the quality up as there is not much of it now!

We visited this Fish n chip shop 13th Jan 25 after a recommendation , what an amazing chip shop , hidden away in the harbour , truly lovely Cod white flakey fish , the chips had a nice crispy crunch , so very fresh not oily , lovely friendly staff too , well worth the visit From Ashford . The most horrible arrogant service I came across so far in any Fish and Chips place. They are not many places to have Fish and chips in Folksone by the sea so that is only way they are still here. I have been here couple of times and every time their staff is just rude so this is just no one time experience. I though first time it is just because was busy but when come in more quiet times they are as arrogant and rude. AWFULL AWFULL SERVICE

I am always suspicious of places in prime locations as they are often a let down but this is honestly the best fish and chips I have ever had! I live in South London and sometimes come to Folkestone just for this fish and chips! I’ve had cod and Rock before and both perfect. I especially like getting the rock as it’s locally caught. The staff are really lovely and it’s fairly priced especially being in such a prime location.

We went in today and picked up 2 of there mini cod and chips with a curry sauce for £9 and I can honestly say that it was the best fish and chips that we’ve had all year and amazing value.

Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had! The chips were crispy and flavoursome. The portion was large (regular size) and not at all greasy. Served in a cardboard box and with a proper wooden fork which made them easy to eat. The curry sauce portion was generous and the fish came with a slice of lemon, which was a great extra touch that I haven't seen done elsewhere. The staff were really friendly and service was quick. I will definitely return here!

Had this on two occasions during my holiday to celebrate my 30th. Had this on my actual birthday and I must say, this is the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, and that’s saying something because I love cod and chips. It was absolutely unbelievable and I would recommend ANYONE who fancies a night in or have some good old English fish and chips. Thank you sandys!

Perfect fish and chip shop. Can't fault it. Chips are impeccable, great quality fish, lovely flaky batter. The curry sauce is another level. And the portion size of the mushy peas is great too.

Probably the best fish and chips in UK, been to many different fish and chips across UK and this was the crispiest and softest chippies I have ever had and the fish wasnt too oily but was super crispy and soft, batter not overcooked or overpowering either, perfect. Curry sauce is fresh too and different to others, tastes homemade here. The price is definitely worth it especially for the size you get, a regular fish and chips can feed 2 easy.

The best fish and chips. Will always stop a night before heading to Europe in order to get a portion of fish & chips from Sandy’s. Light and crispy batter, fresh fish and always tasty. Not to be missed!

The best fish and chips I've had as far back as I can remember.

Popped in one afternoon after a nice walk about Folkestone. Fast service and delicious food, we had the special for the day which was a mini haddock, chips and choice of mushy peas or curry sauce - for just £8pp. And the mini haddock was anything but mini, really great portion sizes. I recommend Sandy's, especially if you want to grab a bite to eat on the go.

Just to let people know they don’t do Gluten Free anymore 👎 stars represent the disappointment after so many good historic reviews.

I decided to try this place and will definitely recommend. The fish and chips were deliciously nice and fresh tasting. I can imagine this place would get very busy in peak season on a hot sunny day. The staff were very friendly and I will thank them for making my visit a worthwhile journey. 5 stars from me 👍

Always a pleasure to have fish and chips from Sandy's. Consistent in quality regardless of time of year and visitors. Delicious bubbly light batter, on good sized fresh fish. The chips are always the best, never soggy. The owner and his staff are always friendly and efficient. Can't say I prefer to go anywhere else. Top class chippy.

Saw the reviews for Sandys and spending the night in Folkestone before going to France, thought we’d give them a try. BEST fish and chips we’ve had for a LONG time. If you’re in the area they are so worth trying. Hot, fresh, very tasty and NO grease. Just delicious, thank you.

Such a wonderful fish and chip shop, by far the best in Folkestone. Owner (I think) Andy was really lovely and helpful. Really delicious fish and chips, I recommend trying the battered prawns. He also gave us some free crabbing bait!

Best fish and chips on the south east coast. The chips are brilliant and the fish tastes amazing. A definite recommend if you're visiting folkestone.

Fish was average, batter was soggy and no ketchup was included, had to pay for ketchup.

Chips & nuggets were nice. Freshly cooked. Always a good sign when there is a queue of people waiting for food. Portion of chips was a fiver, & nuggets, chips & an apple drink for the grandchildren was also £5.00. Not bad considering the location at Folkestone harbour. Hi Sammy. Appreciate the quick response. I rarely give a 5 star review as it means there is no room for improvement & there usually is something. In "Sandy's" case maybe a slice of bread & butter for a chip butty would tip the scales in your favour. Great food though. I only had chips but finished of the kids nuggets which were superb & not processed chicken.

Very popular chippy in Folkestone. Heaving on a Saturday evening with a decent-sized queue. Fish and chips was good - difficult to go wrong though. Good for a takeaway.

They offer vegan battered sausage, vegan fish and chips, vg nuggets and more.. really good options and their curry sauce and gravy is vegan too! No GF options. Really lovely staff!

Just finished our lunch from Sandy’s at Folkestone. Lovely fish and chips - super white fish and chips done just right. Can see why it is rated so highly on TripAdvisor. But…… would be nice for the staff to cheer up a bit! To be greeted by “so what do you want?” Was hardly the welcome we expected. So with a couple of happy pills and a brief lesson in customer service this place would have earned a five star review from me too.

Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had! I took the large haddock with standard chips and it was a struggle to finish. Initially I thought it was a bit expensive and there was quite a queue. 100% worth the price and the wait- excellent quality.

10/10 popped down from London the food is 10 out of 10. The price for the food spot on perfect very nice people working behind the counter the owner should be proud to have people like that working there.👍

Unreal fish and chips! We had a fried haddock (personally my favorite) and we shared a standard portion. Unless you are extremely hungry it should be enough for 2 people. They have 3 different sizes (small, standard and large) and its best with tartar sauce and a pickle. There are some tables outside which are perfect to have a meal at on a sunny day

Fantastic haddock and chips. Best in Kent and I have eaten in a load of Kent chippies. Crisp, light batter, fresh fish and chips cooked well (crispy and fluffy) I'm up in Whitby at the end of the month, looking forward to see how it compares to Sandy's.

This is by far the best chip shop about. Food (cod&chips) was 5☆, staff were friendly, and they all made an effort to chat and make you feel welcome there. Definitely recommend

Coming down (I think it's down) from London for a hot sunny day at the seaside...on a Monday Folkestone. What a great place! Googled beforehand best fish and chips and Sandy's came top of list. I can see why. So often I have been disappointed by fish and chips at seaside. But not this time Sandy's absolutely fantastic, really. Very fresh fish; meaty, not flakey; crispy and flavoursome batter but not batter- overload. Chips perfect. Don't be put off by long queues; it's popular for a very good reason, and anyway you won't have to wait long because the lovely young people working there have been very well trained (possibly by parents/grandparents) and know what they're doing. Hope I can come back very soon.

Today I ordered standard haddock+ chips is £12.50 But they charge £19.50!!! Wifi??!! And large cod £10.00×2= £20.00 salt& pepper sqid( no chips) £6.00 Tomato sachet £0.50×3 =£1.50 Total is £40.00 But they charge me for £ 47.00 I can't not get it! So I explain that I what ordered, but they ignored me. I believe they races me! I m not tourist i m local people. I can't not believe that unkindly so rude at customer! Not right! Not justice! I don't want to recommend!!! Be careful they over price at you!! Before pay you should Check properly your order. I hope you helpful information this chips shop. Thank you!!!

5* all round! We got a takeaway here for the first time last weekend and ate it on the beach. The cod was gorgeous and the batter was just right. The chips were lovely too. Not badly priced either! Will definitely come back when we are next down in Folkestone!

what appeared to be the owner or manager I’m thinking? Made such a rude comment about me and my partner and after politely trying to have a conversation with him to the side I just get told to go to KFC and that it was just a joke, so sarcastic, really rude and couldn’t care less he had upset a customer, horrible experience won’t be coming back again.

Stayed in Folkestone for a night and wanted fish and chips by the sea for Sunday lunch - looked at reviews and headed for Sandys. We were glad we did. Efficiently took our order and we waited outside for our number to be called - the cod was freshly and perfectly cooked, the batter was lovely and crisp. The chips were yummy - you can’t beat fish and chip shop chips! No marks for atmosphere as it's a takeaway.The staff were friendly. Highly Recommended.

Quite possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had! Wonderful chips that were crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. Reasonable size piece of cod with thick crispy batter. Freshly cooked and not at all greasy.

Ok, we only went in for a portion of chips (could smell them from 50 yards away!) they were glorious! They had fish the size of small boats in the warmer, nestling beside some huge battered sausages. We only had chips, but it was service with a smile from a jolly crew. Excellent chips, with salt & lashings of vinegar. Sat on the harbour wall noshing them! Now, what could be better than that?

Best vegan fish & chips i've had

We saw the vegan options a few weeks before we were due to go to Folkestone ahead of driving to France and are glad we found Sandy’s. Ordered for 2 vegans and 2 non-vegans, very happy with the portion sizes all round, food was enjoyable despite us not bringing any chip spice with us! All of the vegan food was quite different from what we’d had in the past, I think it’d have been nice for the vegan fish fillets to have been battered as traditional fish are but they were still enjoyable. Unfortunately didn’t get a picture as it went too quickly!

OK to be fair it was Father's Day and though there was not a queue out the door - there was a lot of people about eating fish and chips. So...staff may have been a bit jaded from the lunchtime rush. I ordered Cod. Fish was not fresh cooked when ordered but from inside a heated section. This can mean you are either getting something just freshly placed in there or something that has been sitting there. I did get a nice portion of fish but the batter was like a thick overcoat but still crunchy. The fish itself was nice but had lost a bit of its' moisture. The chips were very good. Will definitely try them again but maybe on a quieter day. In response to the owner - my review does not deserve rude responses anyway - it was an honest reflection of my experience that's the point of reviews as they are there both for Customer and feedback for the Establishment. Nor was it malicious even saying I would return in future. I visited Folkestone's Sandy's based on Google reviews, I chose Sandy's expecting a 4.8 out 5 but my experience on that day - it was more a 4. I have grown up eating Fish and Chips. I have eaten fish and chips from places as far a field as Durham, Robin Hood's Bay, Cornwall, North Wales, Merseyside and Dorset as well as places across Kent. As such I have a pretty good yard stick on what makes good fish and chips. I understand that within that area of the harbour, Sandys is the sole fish and chip shop so can get busy and cooked to order does not work so having cooked fish ready in a hot box works if there is a steady flow of customers. It can also mean cooked fish can start lose their moisture. In regards your staff, I have worked in various Customer Serving Industries so understand the difficulties and would not go out of my way to be detrimental people in that role unless they had been particularly rude. Google asks you to review Atmosphere and Service which I did but to be impartial I did say this may have been due to the lunch time rush.

I travelled many miles by land, sea and air to this famous fish'n'chip salon to sample the highly rated and highly revered salted calamari - only to find they had run out. An emotional wreck was I so asked again for the dish. Doubly disappointed because within 17 seconds they hadn't found any, I settled for a small cod and chips. Delicious, crispy chips and a nicely battered piece of cod- well worth the round the world trip. I'll have to get my time machine fixed for the next visit in case they run out again 😁😁😁 Mal

I had the large cod and chips ...it was the best cod and chips I've had in years..well recommended. When I vist folkestone again,iam definitely going back.It was cooked fresh and the batter was nice and light with so much fish,my partner and I shared it and both of us was full.

VC Jones has closed in Whitstable; here ladies and gentlemen are the best fish and chips in the South. Chip portion is small compared to most chips shops but were so good it doesn't matter. The smaller chip portion size was disappointing but the fish size most certainly wasn't, all in all worth every penny and the trip. If Shandy was in the fridge I'd be selling up and moving in!!

Just had fish and chips from this place. Arrived just before closing and the staff were kind enough to serve us with a smile. Wow, we had a delicious meal here today! Ordered cod and chips, and safe to say it was the best we’ve ever tried so far, and we’ve tried quite a few across England! The cod had a delicious, crispy batter and tasted fresh and the chips were the right amount of crispy outside and soft inside. Highly recommend!

Took our daughter Maggie for her first Sandy’s fish and chips (myself and my husband have been before) we sat on the harbour and enjoyed every bite! She said it was the best fish and chips she’s EVER HAD!! Excellent service, fantastic food, generous portions. Our favourite, we travel from Dymchurch, and will be back soon. We highly recommend.

We went to Folkestone for a fish and chips lunch. I ordered large cod and chips. The quality was excellent, fresh large cod proper chips cooked to order. Will go back again.

Top-notch. We shared a gigantic piece of fresh plaice in very crisp batter that had been cooked to perfection, best chip shop chips I've had in years (golden, fluffy, crunchy), even the mushy peas were well above average. Large fish and chips was easily enough for two. Decent small selection of local beers to go with too.

I decided to take my friend from Italy, I had cod bites and chips, as she debating between prawn tempura or in breadcrumbs she decided on breadcrumbs. The chap added few tempura to taste, both types were excellent but prefered tempura. Wow delicious fish and chips and friendly staff. The batter was crispy and the fish was flaky Reasonable price and fresh!

We discovered it by chance while taking a walk! Super tasty fish & chips right at the marina. Nice service. I can totally recommend it and when the weather is nice you can sit on a bench at the harbor.
