Sands Chinese Restaurant in Wiltshire

I’m not sure what culinary wizard made the “Large Spring roll with shrimp & pork” - but I’d like to shake their hand. If you’re eating here, please get that, it is absolutely amazing 🤩 All round good food, can accommodate personal requests and fast delivery too. Very nice!

9 years I’ve been eating from Sands and I thought it was time I wrote a 5* review! Honestly I have always had a great experience, great food, and great service whether I get it delivered or if I collect.

Best Chinese in Ludgershall. Super tasty food and quick service. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and kid have nut allergies. We told them this and ordered accordingly. They then proceeded to send satay (peanut) sauce. On the meal. When we told them they argued over the phone. It took over 2 hours, 4 phone calls we had to make, and several very rude conversations with a useless receptionist to finally get them to send our money back and take the food. Never again, this place truely is dangerous, and the worst takeaway I’ve ever had.

Food is delicious i like chicken soft noodle which ia yummy, will recommen to my friends.

So I don’t normally go to this Chinese I’ve lived in Ludgershall my whole life and always gone to the one next door which I’ve never had problems with but someone recommend going to this one this time, I ordered crispy chilli beef and rice the rice was fine and also my partners meal was fine but the beef I had tasted funny I only ate half of it. 1 day later I’m vomitting and have been on the toilets 30+ times I’ve been to doctors and I have food poisoning they have taken a sample and confirmed it was meat plus when vomiiting I could taste it. Currently in the worst state I’ve even been in my life :/

My go-to chinese takeaway. Food is always fresh and tasty. Staff are friendly and attentive. The only downfall is that it is takeaway only, the restaurant was great. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Been ordering here for 4 years now they asked me if ive ordered from them before which i explained we have for 4 years now, they then asked me how i new they was undercooked/raw inside??????? Im Shocked to say the least, chips came undercooked , called and they replaced 2nd batch also not cooked.... so the ladies was laughing on phone and said we will issue refund call ended......Next I know driver at my door again wanting chips that was in bin.......so I had to dig them out of bin as she had to them bring back........so I pulled them out of bin......Needless to say we only order chips when we have Chinese as 1 of are children will not eat anything else.......nurospicey....

Only ordered because my usual was closed, food was very bland, salt n pepper chicken was overcooked and dry, bbq sauce just tasted of water, ribs were dry, chips cold, and the bottle of coke that came was flat, from a sealed bottle, will not be ordering again

Brilliant vegetarian options, loads of tofu dishes etc. Always get great quality food here.

Best Chinese I've had in years 😋

Why is this place no longer open as a restaurant? It was always our favourite place to eat at and since Covid has been takeaway only.

Gutted to say that after our experience on Friday night we won’t be ordering again. Sands was our ‘go to’ Chinese as it was the best in the area but we spent almost £30 and the food was inedible. Apparently they’ve recently changed ownership. The chicken balls were stodgy and rubbery. The sweet and sour pork Hong Kong style was awful, barely any meat in it anymore and what was in it was grey and very tough. I also ordered salt and pepper chilli squid some pieces were undercooked and some pieces were so tough I couldn’t bite through it. Very disappointing, won’t be ordering again sadly.

Quality of food is not very good. Especially the curry But overall, most of the food I’ve had way better in most places But the service is good and delivery is good

Unfortunately, very rude staff member didn't care when called to see where our takeaway was after waiting 1 hr 30mins happy to take money after that forget any polite communication. Will not be ordering again

This is a takeaway only now. And deliver to my rural address! Had 2 deliveries now. Always on time and piping hot. Food quality is excellent! Spring roll is the best I've ever had !!!

Possibly the worst food I’ve ever payed for, chicken was on the brink of being revived , the curry sauce was just a tablespoon of brown water on the rice , and the entire lot got binned , last time I order from here

Ordered online and said a time, got there a bit early but only took a couple of minutes. Food was a good portion size and still hot when I got home. Had the vegetable curry which was delicious with plenty of veg in there. My steamed rice was lovely too. Have used Sands many times for my currys and never had a problem.

The best chinese around, but it’s a shame they’re not a restaurant anymore. This was our go to place to have a family meal out and it sucks we don’t have that anymore. Still food is great and always delivered quickly.

Take away only now, but lovely food, bit expensive.

Let's start with the good, having not ordered a takeaway for a long time from here (it use to be my go too,.just not had the money of late) I went for it tonight, hungry and couldn't be bothered to cook ! Ordered the prawn toast, sweet and sour chicken balls, satay prawns on skewers special.rice and my fav a large spring roll and extra sweet and sour sauce, got the bag of prawn crackers for free. It was hot, it was on time, the prawn skewers, I ate two they were quite nice. The chicken balls, took one bite and that was enough for me, it just didn't taste right, slimy chicken and just a rubbish taste, the rest remain in the bag, the sauce watery, like it had been thinned down. Prawn toast, okay, slightly over done but tasty. Didn't even bother with the rice after I went to my spring roll, no taste except for grease,it was stuck to the bag with just grease, when it used to be so crunchy and yummy..vile taste still hanging in my mouth now and is all I can smell... all in all a total let down for the 30 odd quid I paid, whatever happened to that great takeaway that once was ! I for one won't be recommending or going back again

Food is delicious, only 4 star's because they are no longer a dine in restaurant only take away. We were looking forward to dine in.

We order weekly, and have noticed over the last few week, the food going down hill. The Salt and pepper chicken, was over cooked and tasted like in was cooked in old fat. I ordered satay chicken which was dry and had to bin it as I couldnt even bit it. All I can say, is they must have a different chef. Shame, used to really love the foood here.

We have regularly ordered takeaway from Sands for nearly 10 years. Their food has always been hot on arrival and of a good standard. I now use their website to order but they've always been polite and helpful on the phone. Their delivery drivers are also very polite. During lockdown they were very busy but still maintained good standards. A real treasure of a business in our community.

Absolutely awful food. Black hair all in it. Disgusting customer service over the phone. Would not recommend.

Food was good but King prawn balls was very very oily,you squeeze and literally have oil come out.

I ordered a take away yesterday of Singapore noodles, rice with shrimps and pork and crispy beef. Unfortunately, there wasn't much meat or anything in the two mains, except plenty of rice and noodles and the crispy beef didn't seem to have any beef in it. Think I'll stick to the Chinese next door from now on.

Prompt on delivery, however food was terrible, bland and tasted of smoke. Reasonable price but left a lot to be desired, home stir fry tastes better and I'm no chef!

Don't order from here. They didn't deliver but claimed to have tried, when I rand it took them nearly 30 minutes to answer the phone then they refused to deliver the food. Poor customer service.

The spare ribs where definitely spare! ALL BONE AND NO MEAT, usually I don’t mind abit of bone! But not with my Chinese if you know what I mean 😉

Ordered from this place tonight for the first time on the basis of recommendations from locals. The meal was over 2 and a half hours late and cold when it arrived. It was also the worst Chinese meal I have ever tasted by a long shot. I will NEVER recommend this place to anyone...it was simply the worst meal, the worst service I've ever had!

Ordered a takeaway which took an hour to arrive which would normally be fine but the order was cold and needed to be reheated. One of the dishes tasted awful and the chips were dry and also cold. We phoned the manager to be told that the food could not be cold and he refused to offer any resolution. Awful food and awful customer service.

Just had the lovely food delivered in time, nice and hot, But most importantly delicious. Best take away I have had in years. Highly recommend. Down side is. I over eat and tummy is bloated :D

Delivery was early and food was hot that's all was satisfactory with the food. Most definitely the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever eaten. Love my takeaway on a Saturday night but never again will I come here. Miles behind anywhere I have had before. Missing rice with dishes and prawn crackers smashed to bits and as thin as crisps. Ordered a large take away for the family last night!! Decided to have a change from our local - Big MistakeOrdered a Kong Po Chicken, asked for it to be extra hot, turned out to be very bland, no taste and certainly not spicy!BBQ spare ribs must have been from the skinniest animal ever - no meat on the bone at all.Chips were cold and very dry! Tasted like they had been from cooked at lunch time!Ordered Chicken Fried Rice and ended up with boiled rice!Duck and mushroom had no taste and very greasy.Prob the worst Chinease take away we have had many years!!

Absolutely awful......I ordered special fried rice.....no sliced meat on top of the rice as 99% of all Chinese takeaways do.....and VERY LITTLE meat through the rice......PATHETIC.....YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.......I DID order "house" special fried rice....I asked for no shrimp.....the least you could have done was add extra of the other meat choices.....£6.60 for rice and a small amount of diced meat......im a chef....this is not acceptable....I will definitely not be returning....

Attentive waiting staff, clean eating space and a clear view of the food preparation area through a window in a door, food came fast and was good quality. Toilets are dated and need a bit of TLC but were very clean and in good working order. We will definitely be back, great value for money!

Pork ribs in curry sauce was full of mushroom and chopped onion more than chopped pork. Wasnt impressed with the taste as well.

we ate here regularly until today...greasy watered down curry with greasy starters that were unbeatable.burnt spring roll also ...sorry but the hong kong by the side of you has now risen highly above your standards

The service is excellent and efficient. The food is really great. The restaurant is clean and has a good atmosphere. Very much enjoyed my evening here.

Food is amazing but when you ring It goes to answer machine. Never know if anyone is there to take orders or not. Customer service needs a boot up the backside.

We decided to try Sands Chinese since my wife’s favourite cuisine is Chinese. Was advised by the waitress the food would take an hour for us to receive our food due to it being a fairly large order, which we happily agreed. We advised that we’re located at the barracks, and need to contact us before leaving so we can arrange to pick up fromThe gate, which the lady reassured which is fine. 1 hour and 15 minutes later, still no update. We contacted sands and the lady apologised and said it’s on the way and wait another 10 minutes. So we agreed again. 15 minutes later, still no food. At this point I had lost my patience. I had advised them if it’s easier if I come collect would they offer compensation for the wait, which they agreed. Arrived and collected. They gave us £3 off our £48 order and a bag of prawn crackers, despite being told lies and wasted my time. However, food was quite tasty and we all did enjoy once we actually got to eat. Overall 2/5. Will give this place another shot.

Extremely disappointed with the quality of food I received this evening. They messed my order up, by the time the food came everyone else’s food ended up being cold. I ordered the sweet and sour hing king style and it was just covered in so much salt. I should’ve stuck with Hong Kong Chinese instead

I love going to visit my friend in Wiltshire because it means that I can go to sands, my favourite restaurant.They offer an all you can eat where you don’t have to go up and pick from food that has been sitting around, instead you choose a couple of dishes each time and they are cooked to order for you, the food is always delicious and they offer a number of dishes that you don’t find in many other places! If you are looking for a good place to eat out then look no further, you will not be disappointed!

You'll be hard-put to cope with all the basic courses, let alone take up the offer of extra portions at every course. Not quantity before quality here though as food always delicious. Highly recommended fixed cost all you can eat!

My colleagues and I get together occasionally for an out of work environment. We have chose this restaurant many times. Always made to feel welcome. Service is excellent and food is out of this world. Fresh and tasty. Delicious would recommend to everyone

Went here last night with my husband and my parents which was their first visit. My husband and I have been a few times before. We can honestly say that every time we go we are treated with the same high standard quality food and service every time which is why I would strongly recommend coming here. Lovely atmosphere and the staff are great especially the chap trying to teach us how to use chopsticks! 10 out of 10 thank you

My son and his partner took me for dinner on Monday night.As always the food was perfect.Staff were so attentive, it is a real please to eat here.The first time we went was 4 years ago when my grandson was a few days old and will carry on hopefully until he can take me.

Our family regularly order take away that is delivered to our home a mile away. My brother is vegetarian and there is such a great selection that we usually order all vegetarian. We recommend the crispy noodle, tofu and my favourite is the mock duck.

We eat here often and also order take away meals from them which they deliver. Always good food and excellent service.

Well this used to be a very good Chinese, until after trying to order a meal in the box four times with boiled rice and receiving egg fried, not good (I have a chicken and egg allergy). All four times I specific stated BOILED RICE and informed the staff of my allergy. No sorry that was too hard for the person in the kitchen, that person is not worthy of the title chef. This also happened when myself and family were dining in the restaurant, I ordered a bowl of mushroom soup and explained again about my allergy, the soup arrived with mushrooms and plenty of chicken. If anyone who reads this and has any allergies Dont eat here.

Well this was our first time at Sands and we were not disappointed. Sunday teatime the restaurant was quiet before the evening diners. Started with 7 starters to share on a lovely hot plate too. Finger bowl and prawn crackers automatically. Good start. Then soup, then duck and pancakes. Yikes!! We were full already before the main course. Decided on desserts instead. Good plan. Oh well we will have to return to try the main courses. Very attentive staff.

We have never had a bad meal at Sands. The "eat all you can" menu is very good value for money. You have to choose seven starters from a very good range followed by soup and then aromatic duck in pancakes. You then can have as many main courses as you like, one at a time. Service is very good. Choice of beers ids limited but well priced.

I absolutely love this place! My brother lives in Singapore and every time he comes home he insists on visiting the Sands restaurant as he loves it so much.

I have been using Shanghai/Sands restaurant for 11 years now and have yet to have any issues here the staff are always attentive even though it is a very busy popular venue. I would highly recommend it

As the title suggests, I had a Chinese craving so we decided on this restaurant. We pre booked, thank goodness because it was packed (Saturday night) we were seated at a table for two. The restaurant has a slightly "cafe" feel. Not really a cosy romantic restaurant. The staff are attentive and service is pretty quick. The menu is described as buffet, but unlike usual buffets, you just order lots of food...lots and lots. The food was all lovely. No complaints.
