Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Wiltshire

2nd time ordering here since new to the area, and really impressed both times. The lady on the phone when placing the order was very nice and accommodating, and the delivery driver was also really nice. The food was lovely, the chips are amazing and crispy, the crispy chilli beef was amazing- I’ve found that other Chinese I’ve had it is more chewy than crispy, but this was perfect. Overall really good and happy to of found our go to Chinese restaurant first try.

Ordered for delivery told 20mins , ended up receiving a call saying it’s ready for collection! Now been waiting 2.5 times as long as specified for them to organise delivery.

The food is very good. The only thing I don’t like about that place is, if you order food and do delivery the price is as per the menu. But if you stay and dine in at the place then the price is more which is i guess should be mentioned or should be same as per delivery.

Lovely food, hot and tasty, authentic chinese and reasonably priced.

Cost of living has hit. Restaurant is so cold! Even the lady behind the counter has a body warmer on. Had a couple of takeaways now to give them a chance. Chicken dish was OK. Egg fried rice was so bland! As a restaurant I thought they may use soy sauce to actually give the rice taste. Waited 40 minutes for a 2 dish meal. Could probably do a good fake away nowadays 🤔

RUBBISH OVER PRICED FOOD AND DRINK. THE only good thing about the place was the young girl that was serving use. AVOID.

Looking for a place to eat on a cold Thursday evening in May and we stumbled across this Chinese Restaurant in Warminster. It was quiet inside but the takeaway side was busy. The furnishings were a little tired as we were shown to our table. We decided on a set menu for 2 at a good price. The mixed starters were delivered to the table and we tucked into freshly cooked and very tasty starters consisting of prawn toast, spring rolls, chicken satay, honey glazed spare ribs and seaweed (shredded cabbage). All elements were excellent, being freshly cooked, tasty and served on hot plates. This was followed by crispy duck with enough pancakes for the two of us to demolish the duck that was shredded at the table. The main included egg fried rice, beef and green peppers in black bean sauce, mixed vegetables and sweet and sour chicken. These were again cooked freshly and delivered with hot plates. What we also enjoyed was the gap between courses was just about right and we did not feel rushed. This was a one off visit for us, but should we be in Warminster in the future, we would not think twice about returning. Thank you.

Delicious, good quality food, the best satay chicken I've eaten. Decent portions and fairly priced. Broad menu to cover everyone's tastes. Will come again.

Chicken chow mien, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken curry and egg fried rice. Food always fresh and cooked beautifully. The only thing that lets it down for me is the curry sauce. It’s just awful so I have to order a chicken curry instead which is slightly better but still not quite what you expect, the curry itself has too much onion and peppers for me personally. The noodles are perfect for me and can’t find them anywhere else that does them the authentic way. The chicken balls are very good but the sweet and sour sauce could be better. Overall I give 5 stars for quality, freshness and speedy delivery. The staff give good service and the food arrives hot.

Poor food quality, over priced and the place is run down

Omg this is the best Chinese I have had in a long time!! Highly recommended. Forgot to take photos of the food at we pretty much inhaled it once it was on the table. We were staying at Hunters Moon and didn't want to cook. Opens at 5.30pm. Can eat in or have a delivery or takeout. We went in to order. Was very busy on the phone with delivery orders. Lady was very friendly.

Good size portions, not oily and very tasty

Tired restaurant. After placing order, nothing had arrived 45 minutes later. Another table of six walked out. Other diners who had arrived before us still had no food when we walked out. There were around a dozen people waiting for takeaways and the phone never stopped ringing! Overstretched is not an answer to diners who are paying good money for food that never arrives! Will never return!

It takes too time to delivery. Every time takes more than 2 hours.

Really solid, classic chinese takeaway. Very reasonable prices and generous portions, just enough spice but could be hotter.

Poor quality food spent £37 and the squid was so chewy you couldn’t eat it. The chicken satay was vile, hardly any meat just fat had the same consistency as a marshmallow! 🤢 and chips looked like they had been reheated only nice thing was the chilli prawns. Rang up to just be told it’s good quality about 10 times and not actually listening to me. Would never go back

Probably the best Chinese restaurant you'll ever come across in warminster

What a little gem this place is....we booked on Sunday night and when we got there it was extremely quite....looked at the menu and ordered our food. I have to say the starters came out well presented and hot. We ordered 3 currys and requested for 2 of them to be extra hot and again we were not disappointed the taste was excellant....chicken was succulent and prawns cooked to perfection. We will definitely go again if we are in the area

Cracking take away, always banging and if you ask for it to be spiced up another level, they get it just right! Try the Salt n chili squid, it's absolutely fab!

Had a very bad experience yesterday, they said the order will take 40 mins but we waited for over 70mins and when we finally received the food and were about to eat, we found out items from my order was missing. I immediately called them but they didn’t pick up the phone, I called them twice but they didn’t respond. Basically wasted money.

Great food and friendly service. BUT..Just be aware that when you give your card details over the phone everyone waiting to collect food can hear you. Buy the time your pizza arrives you could have a maxed out card..

Bought the chicken curry. The sauce was good but unfortunately every bit of chicken was fatty. I would not get the same dish again or risk any chicken. Partner's veg Chow mein was top notch though. But hardly any tofu on menu.

Best Chinese food in the universe..

Great Wall is the best restaurant in Warminster. Not only amazing Chinese food, good range of Cantonese dishes and Chinese beers, but absolutely amazing service. Highly recommend the sauteed lamb, caramelized onion and black pepper; the chef's special curry, the crispy duck, szechuan fish, the crispy seaweed and deep fried praws with chilli and salt. Been there already over 6 times, each ordering differently and everytime the dish surprises me with flavour, freshness and yummimess. Just exquisite and always recommend.

Very tasty authentic food. Nearest flavour to Hong Kong restaurants as you'll get in Warminster. Great value for money and food was ready on time for collection. Highly recommended.

Really good food and authentic. The food is really flavourful and cooked well - Particularly enjoyed the bbq pork and love the ribs in chilli sauce. Nothing is over fried or dry. The chilli oil tops it off well.

Main meal was excellent but disappointing slow service And only banana or apple fritter for dessert! The fritters batter too thick and not enough syrup. One waitress only wore jeans and served the bar and took lots of telephone orders over a speaker phone!! So you could hear their card number, pin code, name address etc!!! Not meeting any standards for data protection!!!

Pros: Most food taste really good esp the chinese mushroom. Fast service be it takeaway or eat in. Cons: Only cash below £10 transaction. Curry sauce contains weird transparent jelly like substance which is ever present. ( Everytime when i ordered it) The fried stuffs like ribs and wings seems to be overfried. Need to improve.

Staying local so tried eating here... Must say we were very impressed with all aspects of the restaurant... Food was lovely... Quick and friendly service and slightly cheaper than my own local restaurant....

Ordered a takeaway for collection before 6 was told it would be ready for collection at 7, 50 minutes later I received the takeaway after setting a deadline, customers also very unhappy and a couple left after waiting so long, others also contemplated I was fortunate to get my order. Only two other orders went out in that time (they were not big orders). Restaurant had a table of ten People who were regularly updated with dishes,the remainder of restaurant was empty, they are happy to take your money but give nothing in return to keep customers happy. They need to be realistic with waiting times for customers.

Nice food and attentive staff will go again

Delivery took one and a half hours to arrive after ordering at 5.30 and being told would be an hour sent food back as when I phoned after waiting 1.45 hours was told food cooked and waiting for a taxi. Food then then arrived at 7pm by regular delivery driver. So sent food back as concerned the food had been sat around or reheated. Very disappointed

What a shame !!! I ordered a delivery at 5.30pm (opening time) was told would be asap about an hour. After an hour and a quarter was told they waiting for a taxi to pick up. Food finally arrived at 7pm by regular delivery driver. So no taxi..... Also how can it take 1 & a half hours for food to be delivered ??? We sent the food back as concerned the food had been sat around awaiting for collection by driver. Very disappointed

Called to order our food as soon as they opened was told 45-60 min for delivery,after 75 min no food called to be told they were just about to cook it and it would be with us in 20 mins. Another 35 minutes later still no food called again to be advised they were just doing it and would be about 10 minutes 2 hours after ordering 5 crying children as they were so hungry we finally received our food. The delivery driver advised he had been busy yet we ordered dead on 5.30 when they opened saying other orders that had come in after ours had gone out before ours. Food came lukewarm Needless to say I will never order from them again

we arrived at 7.20, with a table reservation for 7.30, having been seated for 15 min the waitress took our order for drinks, and asked us for our order, which we gave, a starter and main course, 30 minutes later the starter arrived, which was quite good!, at nine o'clock still no main course!! we had been sat down for nearly one and half hours!! people coming in all the time to collect take-away!! i decided enough was enough , we left the table, told the waitress i would pay for what we had had, when she got very rude said our food was ready now!! after all that time?? no way!! we left, NEVER GAIN this place is terrible, the staff useless!!

Staff and food are always outstanding

The food here is very good and they do a lot of take aways BUT the time you are given to wait for your food is a bit elastic. When told half an hour we always have to wait at least another half an hour before we have our meal On Saturday 30th November we ordered and were told 40 minutes so we returned an hour later and it was not ready and about another 10 people were also waiting. After waiting another hour, 2 hours from ordering we got cross and demanded our meal which was quickly produced and we left. Our decision was that your order is not started until you appear ready to collect the food so I would suggest that you order and then sit down to wait and it might appear within the time that is given i.e/ 30 minutes.

A delicious meal at the Great Wall. Would recommend the salt & pepper squid it’s the best we’ve ever had. Great service. Not rushed. Recommend.

Come here last night it's not what I expected it looked a bit of a need of a make over very small place the table and chairs are all so close together so when it is full it's hard to get in and out of your table the food was ok but not a big menu nothing like what you get in Manchester the food was ok but the front of house staff kept on pestering you for drinks if they see you glass nearly empty they was asking you every couple of minutes and if you said no not yet they give you a right look so try it if you want your might have a different experience to want I had but let say it's got nothing on the Chinese restaurants in Manchester even the back street ones and we even waited 45 minutes for our food to come too

Been using this place infrequently (when time permits, due to working in / commuting to and from my beloved London) for a couple of years or so and I can only conclude that; i) The Great Wall furnishes those who attend the restaurant with better quality food than those who opt for takeaway, ii) folks out here in the West Country who proclaim TGW as the "Best Takeaway in Warminster!" set an extremely low bar and have highly defective tastebuds. The last time I ordered from here a few days ago and started eating what arrived, I got a timely reminder as to why I try and avoid this place where possible. Eg, not for the first time, the taste and odour of the prawn dishes ordered were borderline rancid. *NB: Those of you who live near / have walked past Lyons Seafoods, opposite One Stop in Warminster will be familiar with the occasional stench that emanates from that place. And, to be crystal clear here, I don't mean the bracing smell of freshly caught fish from the sea. I refer to the kind of smell that you immediately recognise as seafood that has been left outdoors for quite some time and has began to putrify. The kind of smell that makes you almost throw up a little in the back of your throat.*Additionally, it's painfully obvious that the TGW's fried rice dishes are cooked in the same oil that has been previously used for just about everything else. The same goes for their battered (prawn ball, pork ball, etc) dishes, which are amongst the worst I've ever experienced. The batter is supposed to be a thin parcel coating, not an inch thick Victoria sponge cake heavy-stodge that soaks up mouthfuls of the aforementioned "used" oil that's also along for the ride. Ended up removing the p*** poor quality batter and binning it, only to be faced with the aforementioned rancid prawns situation.Other issues include the watering down of the sauces that accompany a dish, be it soy sauce, sweet and sour or barbecue, etc.I could go on but you get the idea. Ordinarily I would use Hong Kong House across the road, but over the last 6-12 months, their takeaway services have deteriorated to the point where they, too, are almost just as unreliable with the quality and consistency (and delivery!) of their food as TGW.As stated before, I usually try and avoid this place but with work commitments, travel, etc, infrequency makes it easy to sometimes forget just how **** TGW is when it comes to their takeaway.Hopefully this review will now serve as an indelible reminder to not touch the Great Wall restaurant with a ten foot pole.

Took our young Son here for his first Restaurant experience. He loved it as did we. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful and the food was some of the best we’ve had. Really impressed. If I’m in Warminster again I will seek out this place again.

We have lived in the Warminster area for years, and this Chinese takeaway is the best takeaway in the Warminster area, great food, lovely staff, always a pleasure to order food from this restaurant!

We had our daughters coming to stay and we had promised them a Chinese meal. They were not disappointed, once again the meal was hot and tasty without the preservative taste that some takeaways have. We shall return.

Unable to get answers telephone have they problem as been trying call over week not possible to get through it rings but No Answer

can not get through on phone to order a takeaway have tried to phone over 30 times either engage or no answer. Have gone else where. Always been the best chinese food but at 6 o'clock in the evening and not being able to get through via phone to make an order is not acceptable.

Asked 4 times on a phone for spicy and hot wings and ribs but nothing was hot and spicy. It was all mild. Didn’t even get a courtesy prawn crackers. Very sad and bad.

Got there at 7.30, ordered starters &main; 2gether when ordered drinks, waited 1/2 hr 4 starters then over hour & 30 mins 4 meal. Had 2 keep asking how long till food, kept getting told 5 mins. 1 person in group is diabetic, husband has health issues, sons b/day meal. Wouldn't recommend or go again, overpriced & got overcharged.

My family and I arrived in warminster for a meal, as we walked into the restaurant, a lovely lady greeted us and was about to show us to a table. Another sour faced lady clicked at her and shouted for her to wait. Unprofessional. The sour faced lady then took over and showed us to a table.

Booked a table on 28/09/20018 for 7.15 originally for 5 people but then just 4. We was the first people in the restaurant. The waitress took our order at 7.30 we all ordered a drink plus starters and main meal. We got our drinks and starters, by then more people came in plus people for take away. We go our starters, Our meal was for our grandson who is celebrating his Birthday on 05/09/2018 he will be 10. During the starter our grandson and son ordered another drink which took a while. 3 times we was told our main meal was on the way by 9.05 our main never came. So we asked for the bill. We also heard a couple complain about the slow service. Around 5 tables was in so was not overly busy, Not good for a child too wait. Very disappointing as this was a meal for our grandson, we will not return disgusting.

Staff very welcoming and friendly. Food well I think it is the best chinese I have been to for many years. Food is fresh and full of flavour not gluppy like some chinese food can be. Would recommend the duck and beef chow mein but everything I have seen others eat looks lovely. The hot sake is reasonably priced and goes very well with chinese food. My daughters and I get together abvout 3 or 4 times a month for a Take-Away. For years, we have driven to a small town close to us, who have THE MOST AMAZING CHINESE TAKE AWAY . and we don't mind driving, because it is superb food! FOR ONCE we tried Great Wall, - made our order, received it, but noticed missing diswhes! Called up to ask about the "missing dishes" and within 0.5 seconds, my daughter was shouted down, as though we are liars, saying YOU HAVE NOT ORDERED THAT DISH. Later, checked my bank and WE HAD PAID for those missing dishes. Wrote three times to owner/manager - ignored.... completely ! So - back to driving to another local town, whose staff bend over backwards for their loyal customers! (Westbury)!! Perfect. Great Wall have a VERY bad attitude towards customers.

WARING... Ihave given this a five star so it will appear at the top of the reviews... I have to say the food is good. The service is unacceptable.. Being told your food will be with you within? 30mins after approx 3/4 of an hour I ring and am told my food is on its way.. I ring back after about an hour am told a local taxi firm has left with food. I ring that firm who advised they had only just had a booking and that the cab hadn't picked up the food for the 3rd time I ring back and the lady amitds she lied for arives 1hour and 15mins after ordering... A week we order again as food was good this time I have to call again as no delivery and the lady hangs up on me the my fiancé finds an unidentified object in her meal.... Please be careful

Arranged a leaving meal for a colleague for 16 people, ordered and paid in advance, food excellent and so much we couldn’t finish, service efficient. Only one person unhappy with their meal, found the special curry too salty, complained and replaced without question. Would definitely recommend eating here.

Very good food, Very good service and a nice evening

Lovely food and friendly management. Not the most atmospheric restaurant, but great for groups.

Have used Great Wall on a regular basis over the last 2 years and have been pleased with the food and service. The staff are always friendly and very apologetic if there is a delay in the order. We always collected our order rather than have anything delivered.

This is our usual Chinese restaurant, and after trying other Oriental restaurants in the area it is by far the best,
