Sanam Sweet House & Restaurant in Manchester

Even though I've eaten the take out food from Sanam, last night was the first time I've eaten in there. The samosas here are so good. I went there with my friend. The place had a nice atmosphere and the decor is kind of cosy. We ordered 2 poppadoms for starters. When we asked if the sauce and chutneys came with it, the waiter said yes. But that wasn't the case. He asked us if we wanted a salad with our starter, and he asked us like it was complimentary, but that wasn't the case. We ordered a chicken biryani, lamb karahi, and 2 naan with 2 cans of tango (which cost £2.80 each, and that was an absolute joke). The Chicken Biryani looked good, but it tasted like it had too much of a spice, so it made it taste weird. The Lamb karahi tasted very nice. The lamb was so soft. The naan was fresh, so it complimented the curry very well. I would have given the place 5 stars, but the extra charges and the extortionate price of the can really put us off.

Food was not great even the table cleaned with the dirty cloth it was smelly and spoil the dinner

Lamb samosa was tasting sour, the meat inside was spoiled, chicken cjhaat didn’t taste fresh way too much spices , I will Not use again and don’t recommend as clear food is not fresh, I thought that after many years they improved as years ago their hygiene rating was very low, unfortunately still remains Poor

It was disgusting. The manager was so rude and arrogant, it seems he hasn’t learnt basic principles of public service. Unbelievable he even pushed one of guests. Why? Trading standards should take action against this man.

I attended this restaurant few hours ago, I've never been so dissapointed before. I ordered mix starter plater, Paya, chicken jalfrezi with couple of drinks and naan. Everything other than naan was absolutely tastless, no flavours or nice smell of the food. Please stop wasting people time and money with this tastless food.

Food is (OK) can't complain even portions are small as flight size!! But prices are extra higher then usual.

This used to be my favourite restaurant as everything used to be perfect. However, I believe their chef has changed and that is negatively impacting the taste of their dishes. Their naans are not the best anymore. Their service had already dropped since quite a while ago, hence, didn't expect any improvement in my recent visit. Lot's of room for improvement compared to their peak quality and service. Overall, it's worth giving a try but avoid them if you know any other restaurant that is better.

Had a very nice set meal here. Reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They do an evening buffet which looks amazing but you need to be really hungry. No alcohol which is a shame when eating hot curry.

5pm, Sunday, 7 April. Went in to get a few mithai boxes. I must say the special mithai boxes and bags look great. But the customer service was rude and lazy.

Excellent place to visit. Lovely ambiance and food quality is best around the town. Staff is very friendly and professional, specially the younger guy, very calm and polite. Will surely visit again.

Food was top of my list especially the mix grill and lamb karahi it was amazing with polite staff one of a great restaurant to come to if your in Manchester

Absolutely delicious! If you happen to be on the curry mile I urge you to visit this restaurant. We asked for the waiters recommendation and we got 2 banging curry’s alongside some excellent side dishes. A mouthgasm for every corner of the palette. Lassan Al G’aib!!!!

Very good and tasty food. A good range to select from. My personal favourite is their Chicken Biryani and Butter Chicken.

Dirty bakery & sweet shop. No hygiene and on cakes quite often you will find hair. Also the cream on top of their cakes are not healthy and full if low grade fat which will make you sick!

After previously leaving a negative review 2 years ago. Recently visited and it was newly refurbed, a fresh and inviting restaurant. Vast improvement from my last visit, service with a smile. Good table size, Karahis were excellent and the tandoori nan were just beautiful. The sweet and mango lassi were also very refreshing. Overall had a very pleasant evening and will definitely be visiting again.

If I could give no stars, I would. I have been going to their sweet shop for a while to get their pistachio baklava but today I went and I always make sure to ask if it has walnuts in it. I asked this today and he said it's only pistachio and then I eat it at home and have an allergic reaction, which only happens when I consume walnuts. This is a disgrace to know that either they misunderstood my question so that it had walnuts in it or it had got cross contaminated. People have allergies and food should be marked up whether it's Asian or non-Asian food!

Mitai pretty expensive, but nice and fresh. Service this time was slow.....had one guy doing the order for someone, didn't acknowledge that we was there and was just so slow in serving....I mean if you see customers queuing up, u'd probably speed up wouldn't you or call someone else to serve?? So after waiting for a ling time the guy finally asked one of the other guys who was loading the cakes on the shelves to serve us....by then there were other ppl waiting to be served, however the first guy was still pretty slow in dealing with the first customer!

Went inside clean, Nice soft burfi, the almond one is to die for. Told to Mr to go back and get me a box has he ate them all out.

Pretty good indian-ish food, can't complain. We had a couple of chicken starters and they were okay but the biryani was good and the butter chicken was delicious, highly recommend getting that. Service was quick as well!

Had a chance to visit this place last night and unfortunately i had a terrible experience. The service was very slow with staff members not responding on time. To my surprise, the food (karahi, bbq, daal) was also bland and didn’t feel fresh. Not recommended at all when you’ve got too many options on Wilmslow road. Thankyou!

It’s a fairly average restaurant nowadays with average food. It used to be one of the pre-eminent places to go and eat a few decades ago but it’s nothing like that now and a shadow of its former self.

The guy at the counter is extremely rude. Worst service spoils the experience.

Went Sanams, family of 6 on Xmas day food was ok but definitely overpriced, sanams grill mix at £15.50 very small portions and mango lassi tiny jug at £11.50 what a rip off won't be going there again, Also the waiter kept on forgetting my order, and some staff had a bad attitude so be careful 😅 Parkings a headache too you'd be lucky to get a space.

I was disappointed with my experience at Sanam Sweet Shop in Manchester. The sweets are overpriced, and the 125-gram box is excessively heavy, resulting in getting fewer gulab jamuns. This feels like an unfair business practice, and I expected better value for the money spent. Upon bringing it into notice, the response was unfriendly. I know it's not a big deal having three to four pieces less. But it is absolutely against teachings of Islam. I feel the need to raise a voice against unfair practice and have requested friend's and family to choose an alternative shop. "And (when) you measure, measure fully, and weigh correctly with the scale;" [Kanz-ul-Iman (translation of Quran)] (Part 15, Surah Bani Israa’eel, Verse 35) It is not letting me add pictures, otherwise i took several pictures as proof. Weight of the box = 125gm Weight of one gulab jamun was= 45gm drenched in sugar syrup.

Food was perfect. Being a food critic and a chef from India.If anyone is looking for authentic food this is the best place. The ambience is good service was excellent and the floor was really authentic (not like the places which claim to be authentic but are miles away fro real thing). I would suggest having gol gappas and Jalebis, Jalebis were hot the way they are supposed to be served ( Reminded me of the actual taste back home). There is a parking nearby which only costs £1.6 which is an added bonus.For Sanam you have a regular customer till the time I am in Manchester. PS: We are the couple with the little baby girl.

A dreadful experience on entering the restaurant we were sat by the window which was nice but the place was cold and uncomfortable. We asked for the heating which was switched on but the heater was not producing much heat. We ordered a traditional dish the food was tasteless and had been heated in a microwave judging from its temperature and steam which was coming from the food. The handi dish was a few pieces of meat in a watery curry sauce with green peppers!!! Since when has handi dish been cooked with raw chunks of green pepper??? It was tasteless the other dish was spinach based again tasteless it was like eating wall paper paste. We had driven from Chester the whole evening was a complete waste it was a waste of our time and money I can honestly say take sways in Chester would out this restaurant to shame. This place used to be good few years Bach but standards have really dropped. We will not be visiting again and anyone not familiar with Pakistani cuisine is bound to get a very negative view of the food avoid at all costs!

Food was excellent, again. Every time we visit, the food is very well cooked. We went fairly early on a Sunday afternoon, as it was not busy it was quiet, hence 4 stars for atmosphere.

One of the oldest restaurants on wilmslow road and probably the best in terms of food and Asian sweets. Waiters are very polite and helpful I had the chicken saag and naan was very fluffy just how I wanted it all in all a very good meal and reasonable price. Will Come again.

Regular customer here since I was a toddler, my favourite dish has always been nihari and they never disappoint, many memories have been made here with my family.

Atmosphere only a three however it was an early Saturday afternoon, so perhaps understandable. The food is exceptionally delicious, and the service is excellent. No alcohol on the premises, but that's a small price to pay. Recommended

Had a lovely time there with my girlfriend, the staff are lovely. It was nice to see such young staff, who were attentive and helpful. A cracking place. I'm back there soon. The food was awesome!

We ate biryani and it was good. Portion sizes are slightly small but service is good. Parking is a very big issue on Wimslow load

One of the original go to places especially that is not licensed. Family friendly and whilst it can be more middle of the road, you at least know what you are getting and it has tried to stick to its traditional roots and not go to modcon. If you want more of the modern stuff there are other places however if you want stuff that is done well and that you know you will get - especially sweets and desserts, go to this place. It's always reviewed as being a midpoint of Winslow Road - you either go up the road towards town or down the road towards fallowfield. Food as well is in the mid-range - price-wise but quality remains good. Trusted name and a trusted place.

I went here with friends on Friday night to have some time to sit down and chat and have some good food. We loved the food especially the lasagne and desserts like gulab jamun. But we were absolutely offended by the way one of the staff behaved. He must be a senior staff at the restaurant and we were appalled to experience this from him. When we were sharing the lasagne with each other he stood there just next to our table with folded hands and a smirk on his face, nodding in a funny way. We wanted to stay for a bit longer and have more food but this attitude from staff made us walk away as soon as we could. Never would visit this place ever again only because the way customers are treated here.

It is sad to say that their customer service was very very bad. Absolutely bad. The packing for the gulabjamun packing was pathetic. They use a paper cover, which leaked the sugar syrup. And there baklava was not even good. But then only one positive i got from there was the gulabjamun. That was tasty. I won’t recommend this place for sweets.

Had their samosas twice, the first time it was an unforgettable experience but the second time at the restaurant okayish.

Should be allowed water in jugs from tap. Bottled water is ridiculously expensive and unnecessary. .....and we want our mints back at the end. Cannot blame COVID for everything! Food quality, amazing as always

I had a disappointed experience at this restaurant last night during their buffet service. The staff continuously monitoring our plates making us feel uncomfortable. When we tried to address this issue, the staff became rude. And manager himself even made inappropriate comments, saying something like 'you guys have eaten the food of 50 people. This level of service was unacceptable, and it greatly affected our overall enjoyment.

Worst waiter I have asked 4 times can I have some ice cubes please.. But he's never come back Dear boss you need more staff I'm not coming back to your restaurant

The service was Outstanding, literally standing out! It took them couple of reminders to get us a jug of water, and that wasn't just once. We also had to hear a comment from one of the waiters, since we asked for tap water.

The food had no taste and the customer service was very poor. We were asked if we wanted salad or sauce when you would expect that to be normal with a mixed grill or any main we were mostly ignored by the waiters and when were asked for another bottle of water it didn't come until we asked again Staff don’t have any customer service skills and the mojito drinks were out of can with a bit of ice a some mint leaves Not good

The very best in Asian sweets. Everything is fresh and tasty. The owners still attend to ensure the highest quality. This place gets better every time I visit.

Very slow service asked the waiter to take our order a few times before he actually took it. The pickle/sauce tray was not even half filled, had to ask for it to be topped up. Had to call waiter umpteen times as food items were missing. Ordered King prawns for starters, they were an extremely small portion and were definitely not king prawns as they were very small! Paid around £8 for 4 small baby prawns. The lamb curry and garlic naan were nice and that's about it. Very slow customer service. Will not be returning.

Highly recommend the chicken pasties. Very very good. Rasmali is also delicious!

Ok so 3 stars for the food but service is zero one of the waiter kept looking at us made us feel uncomfortable he basically wanted to to hurry up eat and get out so they can give table to someone else while we were eating he started picking the dishes up and I asked for water gave us water and charge us £1.99 when I questioned he flipped and I felt very angry but kept quite u expect salad and sauce to come with food but they charge us for everything that bangali guy as u can see in some pics wasn't the happiest person it felt like he was being forced to work there but the food was amazing specially baryani

Awful. Terrible food. Terrible service. We paid £50 for garbage. Chicken steak was awful. The only thing that was ok was the lamb sheesh kebab. I bought my own drinks and the waiter took my can away when half of it was full and he even charged for the drinks but they were my drinks. I don’t recommend this place

Poor service and very unprofessional management order 2 staters 1 came in 5 minutes and smosa was so cold just took 2 spoon and left it 2nd starter took ages to come and they spill all the salt of their restaurant on my quarter piece of chicken terrible taste left it there and and main course never arrived and at the end we left the place by paying whole bill which we never had and they were offering to take your food with me, we came all they way glasgow and they made us so upset 👎👎!!!!

Food is reasonably good but not the very best. The service was well below par. All the staff were lethargic unenthusiastic and had poor communication skills. I asked about mint chutney with mix grill and he brought raita. I asked for salad in which he unprofessionally said it will cost extra as if we were asking something for free. They need to be trained well and be able to read customer before judging them as money savers. Didn’t live up to the expectations considering we heard of Sanam as one of the country’s top Asian restaurants

Placed the order on call..I told him thrice about bhindi(okra) fry and he gave me bhindi curry..when I gave a call back to him.he is so rude..Never ever gonna place a order again in this restaurant..

First time in Sanam, but it was great. The food was delicious, and the service and staff were lovely and helpful. It's worth every penny spent in there. Sanam mixed grill was amazing and spicy. Big choice of food, and we took some home too.

Terrible…Was ‘accidentally’ charged £41 for a bill that was £14. No remorse whatsoever from the person at fault.

We visited this restaurant. Ordered several items with king prawn as a starter. For that paid £8.90. When it's comes seriously so surprised to looking at the portion!!! It's so tiny 4pcs ,it's not king prawn and not even chiken Tikka size.for that pay this much money. Just waste of money. If Someone visit definitely no recommend to get the king prawn starter.because compare to money It's not enough portion. Other than other what we was got those good.
