Good food, polite staff. No complaints

First visit to San Giovanni and we really liked it. Great pizza with plenty of fresh, tasty toppings. The house salad olives, tomatoes, onions, dressing etc. had lots of flavour and the tiramisu and ice cream were delicious. The customer service was excellent - just the right balance between being friendly, helpful, attentive and also stepping back to give us space to enjoy our evening. Thanks and see you again soon!

My wife and I Went for dinner, lovely meal, excellent staff and nice atmosphere Shared my wife,s humus starter which was excellent and I don’t normally eat humus as a rule, so well done.

The penne all'arabiatta was great, a good level of spice and flavour and good quality tasting pepperoni, definitely one of the best i’ve had! The tiramisu was also really flavourful and fresh. Great value for money, 100% would visit again!

My husband son and I visited San Giovanis for the first time since before the covid lock down, oh how we missed the sit down meal experience. We have not suffered to much as we have treated ourselves to take away meals, but you cannot beat sitting around the table. This was my 65th birthday treat and a totally enjoyable one I must say. We had the obligatory garlic bread, with different starters, I had the softest spare fibs delicious. My husband had the meat ball starter and my son the calamari. We had different main meals, I had fillet steak stroganoff with rice, my husband had a new dish for him, linguine al gamberoni, my son had his usual favourite, lobster ravioli. To finish we each had affogato for dessert, this is our now obligatory Italian dessert. We had various drinks, I started with a mojito cocktail, the end had beer and we shared a lovely bottle of expensive wine with our main meals, a totally enjoyable evening. The bill came to a reasonable £191. One point of note we used the restaurants reservation page to book our meal but got no acknowledgement so rang to confirm our booking, it had not been picked up. This was not a problem for a quiet Thursday evening but could end in disappointment on a weekend or special occasion such as mothers day or valentines. I would recommend a telephone booking in the future.

This is a lovely Italian resturant with a good choice of dishes on the menu. I have been too gios many times over the years and the staff are always very friendly and helpful.. service is quick too for food... would recommend..Good selection of hot drinks and desserts too.

Food is excellent, having been here many times, the last 2 visits we've noticed the meal sizes have shrunk.. In particular the prawn starters and the lamb shank. Other than that the quality is still amazing!!

Where do i start. The pasta my (adult) daughter ordered looked like a childs portion and yet £14 is definitely not childs price. Despite pointing out to staff that it was ridiculously small portion, significantly smaller than other pasta dishes in our group including 1 who had exactly the same dish, they refused to accept that there was an issue. Even the manager said there was nothing wrong. There was significantly more food on the plate of my nephew who had the same dish but they didn't seem to care so we refused to accept it and sent it back. My daughter had to call at macdonalds on the way home for her food. Then to make things worse when my salmon arrived it was overcooked. I love salmon and make it at home myself i know how it should be. Couldnt be bothered to complain about it after the pasta debacle so just ate most of it. Wont be going here again.

Here is a photo of us last year my child eating a child’s portion of pasta, and here is this year the adult portion of pasta they tried to give me tonight…… same bowl….. The manager was very apologetic and wanted to corrected it. But this was 15 minute’s after the waitresses argued that this was the correct portion and then I watched her get shouted at by the chef for a good 4 minutes and he outright said no and refused to add more. The waitress brought the food back to me so I took a photo of it…. I decided to simply ask them to remove it from the bill and take the food away which they did. So going without a meal wasn’t the best but the chef was so mad he kept shouting and looking over glaring at me I didn’t feel comfortable with him making me a dish. The waitress kept telling me I was wrong and the manager agreed that they made a mistake and should have fixed it…… Also this meal is £14 on the menu - Linguine Salmon 🤷🏼‍♀️ Visiting for America just wanted some Italian food 😭 Also the tomato garlic bread is £6.95 and the cheese garlic bread is £7.95, I got half and half and was charged £8.95 for the privilege, only three of the ten slices were covered in cheese - make it make sense.

Food as always was lovely It was NYE and despite us visiting this restaurant on many a NYE where they usually closed at 02:00, we were very disappointed that it shut at 11:00. We hadn’t even been informed despite them calling to check our reservation There was no NYE joviality or atmosphere and we had to go routing for a pub that didn’t require an entrance ticket

This has been the best meal ever, the presentation was superb, cooked to perfection. The only sufficient word I can use to describe our dining experience is 'magnifique'! The staff was very friendly and gave us an exceptional experience! Thank you for a wonderful lunch and excellent wine - we shall return!

Went in for a special night and the staff are super friendly. The food was amazing. I had a flattened steak which was nicely grilled and well-matched with the sauce. We didn't have space for any desserts, but the staff surprised us with a small ice cream which made our night more special. Thank you for bringing us such a lovely night. I ordered a glass of wine and was served it in a thick rimmed glass. I prefer my wine in a thin rimmed elegant looking glass. I saw some of these on the shelf above the bar so I politely asked if I could have one. The gentleman I asked spoke to a lady and her reply to me was "they are for premium wines only!" I asked if she was joking and she said no I'm not and walked away! I was appalled by her attitude especially as she then went to the bar and continued to discuss me with the guys at the bar. After 10 minutes of being given the opportunity to rectify the issue, I'd had enough! I stood up and walked to the bar to pay for my drinks! Unbelievable that they were prepared to lose the takings from a table of 4 dining over a glass! And also what does that portray to other diners......ohhhh they are on the cheap wine because they don't have a nice glass! Absolutely disgusting behaviour! I ended up going to Pinocchio's in Ashton. Far better service and couldn't do enough for us. I have attached a photo of the glass I was given at Pinocchio's so you can see what they refused me at San Giovanni!

Use to love this place and was a regular until I got a really bad meal. I've not been in for over three years and decided to give it another go as it was our anniversary. Truthfully for the price, we won't be going back ever. The food was OK, but the service was slow. Well over an hour to receive our starter and main in a restaurant which I wouldn't say was even busy. I'm not complaining about the atmosphere because everyone is paying customers, and they are just as entitled to enjoy themselves. But we were sat next to several young lads celebrating a birthday, talking football and some kind off sing a long, not exactly what I planned for my wedding anniversary.

Very reasonable and friendly price with high quality food and super friendly and efficient staff. Very pleased that the bread served warm when it comes with the pate. Very aromatic risotto and nice and thick carbonara. Also, a not so sweet tiramisu. An extra sharing: I have witnessed 3 peoples’ birthday today (15/6) in this restaurant, imagine how good the vibe is~~

We went to San Giovanni's for my husband's birthday. As it was a Tuesday it was quite quiet but the staff were all very welcoming and attentive. The interior makes it feel like a special occasion as soon as you walk through the door. I chose the garlic mushroom starter, which was more like a mushroom broth. Deeply flavoured and a little peppery, this was ideal as a first course. Husband had the pork ribs which were succulent, juicy and falling off the bone. Son had the cheesy garlic bread - a beautiful thin & crispy base smothered in gooey cheese and garlic. Delicious. For main I had the lobster ravioli. It's as decadent as it sounds. Plump pillows of pasta stuffed with fresh tasting and sweet lobster were accompanied by tiny baby prawns adding a pop of texture and taste. The creamy tomato sauce tied everything together. Husband had the salmon linguine and son had the carbonara. Both polished off every morsel declaring their choices as 'amazing & delicious'. Dessert for husband & I was a refreshing & palate cleansing limoncello semi-fredo with liquid limoncello centre that was divine. Son chose three generous scoops of chocolate gelato. A rousing chorus of 'happy birthday' from the staff (and a candle in his pud) made husband's night. The service was nice & relaxed and we didn't feel rushed at all, though that might be different on a heaving Saturday night. Three courses for three of us, drinks (beers, wine & Aperol Spritz and a coke) plus liqueur coffees came in at a little over £112. This was excellent value for money as the portions are generous. Definitely recommended and we will be back.

Honestly the BEST Italian outside of Italy. The staff really make this restaurant. He may not like this but the manager who looks like Juan Mata is the best guy and always so professional. Really makes you feel like a celebrity.

When you arrive at a restaurant at 4pm and they’re busy it speaks for itself. This is our second visit and if I lived an hour away I would still come. The staff recognised us on arrival and made us feel so welcome. The effort they make with birthday celebrations is amazing we witnessed two whilst we we hear. They are fantastic with children and nothing is to much trouble. Our food again outstanding as are all the staff. Highly recommended

This was our first visit and definitely won’t be the last. The staff are amazing and the food outstanding. The atmosphere was brilliant the restaurant was busy but it wasn’t noisy the ambience was set just right. The staff took time to have a chat and you can fully understand why they have been there for 15 years. Thank you for making our evening special, we will definitely be back very soon.

This was my 2nd visit and again the food and service was excellent My husband has the scallop specials for starters them sea bass as a main I had the garlic prawns and the chicken with mushrooms in a creamy sauce All absolutely delicious The staff were attentive, polite and extremely helpful We will be returning next time we’re in Manchester It’s a definite must try booking is advised as it got really busy

We attended for a family celebration. The food is good and the staff were very attentive and kind. The portions are massive and we probably overordered if anything. My children want to come again.

We eat here quite a lot but usually as a couple. Tonight we had our son’s 18th birthday meal with family members - 8 of us in total. All 8 loved their meals - starters included mushrooms, ribs, etc. Mains included salmon, steak, pasta, lasagne, etc. Not one complaint from anyone - food was absolutely delicious. The service was top notch too, despite the restaurant being packed out with 3 other large parties.

6th April 2016 - We had a wonderful evening at San Giovanni, and our friends who had not been to the restaurant before really enjoyed the evening too. We were celebrating and we were made to feel that we chose the right place to be. Isabelle and Gerald.

Visited here on Saturday evening , being new to the area we are trying to find restaurants we will use regularly. We have tried the other Italians in the area, but was passing here on our way home and decided to see if they had a table. We were lucky as it was very busy, it had a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very attentive. I ordered my go to lasagne and my partner had the gamberoni both with a rocket and parmesan salad. The food was delicious and we both said it'll be our choice for Italian as it just tipped the other two in Urmston. Would recommend this place.

Visited on a Tuesday evening. Nice atmosphere on entrance and it remained that way. Staff is very lovely and professional which makes the experience 100% better. Went in for my son’s 19th birthday meal with 13 people and the staff were so friendly and courteous. Staff came out with his dessert and sang happy birthday to him. Food was delicious and would definitely go again when back in the UK.

Just fancied a nice meal with my partner so booked here for a change on Friday 25th November, the meal was fabulous the team that looked after us were amazing, the food was just first class, shout out to our server Lilly Rose, such a lovely young lady whom made us feel valued.

Just come home had a family meal as we always do here (we’re regulars) or was should I say Meatball sauce was like red water (just let the manager know) didn’t return it Ordered 3x rump steaks and peppercorn sauce (steaks looked like they had been battered and was all flat) again wasn’t bothered as it was lovely anyway! Got the bill we’ve eaten where for years and we order the same every time we come So a chicken cacattori is £16 and a rump steak and peppercorn sauce £20 roughly as always we asked instead of the peppercorn sauce can we have the cacattori on one of them, yes no problem no mention of the following Bill came and they charged £3.95 for it (when queried bill) Never been charged for it before, manager came and said well that’s what we charge! Chicken cacattori £16 Steak £20 cacattori £3.95 Will not be eating here again because of the £3.95 and the managers attitude Place was very quiet for a Friday night And this is probably why People are struggling financially and when we can afford a meal out this happens So BYE! You’ve just lost a £145 bill fortnightly for the sake of a £3.95 veg & tomato sauce which is free with a chicken dish Makes no sense

Food fabulous, a little loud for the romantic occasion of my birthday but decor is lovely. A little slow for the bottle of wine and served without glasses initially but a minor error on a busy week day night. We will definitely be back with the family

Slightly strange experience with one staff member who seated us. When taking our drinks order he refused me a coke and held the menu up to my face pointing at the cocktail list which I politely declined asking again for just a coke and he seemed very unimpressed and then proceeded to ask me multiple times sternly if I was alright. My boyfriend asked for water for the table and he replied “it’s possible” begrudgingly. We were both confused and didn’t feel welcomed by him but the rest of the staff were lovely and food was delicious. Definitely worth a visit just very strange service from one of the staff which is a shame. Didn’t catch his name but he was middle aged and bald.
