Speechless, the food was close your eyes mmmmm amazing. I went twice in one week and I really couldn't fault it. Well except the beef was a little too salty in both occasions but edible. The pork was tender, the ribs just perfect and the service was good, that's why I went twice, with my niece and then my sister. I will be recommending it to everyone. I apologise for the poor photography

Beautiful restaurant with amazing food! Highly recommend, we went fairly late as we arrived in Edinburgh and we were met by a beautiful restaurant and very friendly staff topped off with amazing food.

Great food , but the staff are brilliant , always attentive and smiling. Recommend this one . Best in Edinburgh. Lots of Choice and busy, but still plenty room. Recommend booking. Han and Stephen and the team very welcoming

Fantastic service, quick, fresh and delicious food. Big portions. Lovely atmosphere. Highlight was the impeccable service-going above and beyond throughout our meal (especially to help find my niece some fruit tea so that she could enjoy it from a teapot!) We were a group of 8-really enjoyed the round tables and have all said we'll be planning a return visit.

We discovered this restaurant on an early morning walk back from the Meadows, and it looked a good bet for a Chinese dinner: we were not wrong, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. We didn't have a reservation and were lucky to find a window table. The duck/pancake starter was the best ever, followed by a selection of chicken and beef dishes that were almost too much for us as we also ordered a chicken fried rice that would have served four! Overall a great experience, with lots of Chinese student diners, which is a good indicator of where to find authentic and quality dishes.

We've always said that we'd like to visit this place as it's on the route we usually take daily and Szechuan is usually to our taste. We were wrong. We had crispy egg tofu with seafood and mushroom, stir fried french bean with chilli minced pork and roast duck noodle. The duck was fine, but the accompanying noodle soup was hugely over-seasoned. That kind of set the scene for what followed. The bean and pork dish was *hugely* salty. As in 'more or less inedible'. As in 'season ticket to the renal unit'. The crispy egg tofu was certainly not crispy (maybe 'soggy' doesn't look that good on the menu) and though there was plenty of seafood in the dish it had a revolting overtaste of something very 'fishy' indeed. And it was also bathed in salt. The portions are large it has to be said, though that would only really hasten the collapse of your kidneys. As one of us pointed out, we'd have returned it if the waitress' command of English was a bit better. Unfortunately, she fluffed the order initially, then stood in awkward silence when we were settling up. I also saw her gazing into space whilst a patron was waving immediately in front of her. The service is *not good*. The kitchen is full of sound and fury but the dishes take a while to be produced. The whole bill came to £50, which for lunch for two people who are not briny marine dwellers is extortionate. (they also press you *twice* into leaving a tip at the end by asking you 'if you'd like to' and then asking 'are you sure?' which for me is reprehensible) We'll not be back. I suggest to the reader that you should not even go that often.

After early Festival Fringe show, a need for lunch. Walked in and got a table for two. Quite busy but quick service. I got advice from the server to have the crispy chicken in honey and chili sauce. Partner chose a Steamed Sea Bass in Soya sauce then an egg fried rice between us and 2 Tiger beers. Place got busier and we did wait a while but this was explained to us that it took a while to steam the fish and if you saw the size of the fish you would understand! My chicken was lovely but I didn’t manage to finish it all as quite large portion. All round lovely food and efficient service. Maybe a wee bit pricey but we’ll be back.

Shocked experience less than 10 minutes between ordering and food arriving during a busy service in a packed restaurant. What does that tell you? It was a family meal. The order - steamed char Sui buns, dumplings, salt and pepper chips (we were curious about this uk dish), beef hofun, crispy shredded chicken, roasted duck, vegetables with oyster sauce, steamed rice. The worst meal we’ve had from a Chinese restaurant and or takeaway. Will not be back and won’t recommend.

Luckily, we were forewarned about the huge portion sizes - I think they're designed for Cantonese-style sharing, rather than everyone having their own dish. We had the Sweet and Sour Pork, which was made with and served in half a fresh pineapple. Just about the best I've ever tasted! And we decided to try the Stewed Chicken with Rice Wine. Absolutely delicious, and with lots of Wood-Ear Fungus, which I love! Wonderful flavours, and with a portion each of Steamed and Fried Rice, was plenty for 3 very greedy and hungry adults - and we took a small amount home to finish later (they brought a small takeaway tub when we asked). Can't wait to go back and try more of their cooking! I didn't take any pics, but the S & S Pork looked just like it did in the picture on the menu.

A fantastic restaurant. Always got a good atmosphere, staff are friendly, and every time I've been, it's been the best chinese food I've ever eaten. Ignore the typical "waste of money" replies from someone who ordered something they wouldn't like from the menu. It's great!

Looked good from the outside. Seated promptly but then completely ignored. No offer for water. No one came to take our order. Wait staff walked back and forth by our table but no one was of any assistance. A good 20 minutes went buy before the manager noticed nothing had changed since he sat us. Menu was not really varied. Food was average. This place failed on service, menu and price. Don’t waste your time.

My friend had just visited his Doctor and we needed somewhere local before we caught a train. The San Chuan is very close to the Uni. We were the only ones in there on arrival, but then it was 3.30 in the afternoon. Not long after several Chinese/Asian people arrived - which i always a good sign. The menu can be a bit difficult to work out but the staff would help if needed. We chose one dish each and then an egg fried rice and a noodle dish to share. The food arrived quickly and was excellent, however the portions are very large. The egg fried rice was a good portion to share. To be quite honest we could have ordered one dish between us plus the rice and noodle dish to share and it would have been plenty. My friend went for a chicken and vegetable curried casserole type dish and it was ENORMOUS. I went for the Sweet and South Pork with fresh pineapple, that too was ENORMOUS. We then had the egg friend rice and a Chicken Chow Mein as a noodle dish to share. ALL VERY DELICIOUS. I think they just need to sort out the portion sizes, for themselves as much as anything. We would go again but would choose something to share rather than dishes each, then if we needed more would order again. RECOMMENDED - just be very hungry when you go.

Im Ggensatz zu den anderen Lieferservices in Edinburgh lieferte das Restaurant mit dem Auto, anstatt dem Velo an. Der Fahrer fand die Adresse nicht und nur nach mehreren Telefonaten konnte das Essen zu uns gelangen. Wir waren auf avisierte 65 Minuten Lieferzeit eingerichtet, aber der Fahrer rief schon nach 30 Minuten an. ich konnte erst später reagieren, da ich das Telefon nicht immer bei mir trage. Das kann ins Auge gehen. Die Verpackung war angemessen und in Ordnung. Zwei Gerichte schmeckten recht fad und ziemlich ungewürzt. Das Szechuan Rind war in Ordnug, aber wir haben auch schon raffiniertere Zubereitung erlebt. Die Bewertungen für das Essen im Restaurant waren ansprechend, vielleicht klappt nur der Lieferservice nicht so gut.

Second visit to this fantastic restaurant and the food is delicious. At 7pm it was already full of mainly Chinese groups, a sure sign of the authenticity of the cooking. A very long and varied menu with very few of your typical westernised ‘Chinese’ dishes. We will be back.

San Chuan is an excellent Chinese restaurant with fabulous foods and service on a quality as high as many other worldwide restaurants we have eaten in! I jest not! Eating with two friends we had not seen for many years, the young waiting staff were extremely helpful, giving us time to chat and then gradually decide on food choices, offering advice and suggestions and warning of certain dishes being very spicy or containing fish bones etc (not a problem for us). The rest of the diners were mainly of Chinese origin and also a lovely large family Sikh group celebrating a birthday. This was a good sign to us of quality food. So good, I even left a large tip! (Very unusual for me). Honestly, if you like Chinese food you would be mad not to try this place out!

They served good. A lady (the name I forgot) was a Fijian young guy but spoke fluent Cantonese served excellent. She was caring and efficient. I noticed many servers there were quite young and might be students working part time. They had put their efforts and both young servers and senior servers had done well. Food was also good to me and my wife as visitors from Hong Kong. A big hand especially to the soup made of pork belly! Please let them know of our appreciation!

Service was a complete disaster all our food was served to the adjacent table . First of all they have 2 Menus one Chinese and one British Chinese we were given wrong one only came to their notice when they came to take order.

One of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh. The aubergine is not to be missed! Everything we've tried so far has been absolutely delicious. Actual spicy when marked so. A little pricey but such good quality it's worth it. Good service.

The staff were so polite and friendly, atmosphere was very good with a pleasant vibe and the food was amazing , big portions and good value for money .

I booked a table for me and my sister for our annual Christmas catch up. From the time we arrived we were looked after by the waiting staff. We ordered Wonton Soup, Chicken & sweetcorn soup, Chicken chow me in and the large prawn griddle....

What can I say….fantastic My husband and I were lead here by a local, Superb staff,very accommodating Amazing food The staff couldn’t please us enough. On our next trip we will definitely be visiting with our children.

We were able to walk in & get a table but it was full within no time lots of students & all Chinese! Basic table service , we ordered lemon chicken & sweet n sour chicken in a light batter & 2 egg fried rice!...

We ordered the takeaway yesterday: some soups, stewed chicken with three cups sauce & rice and chicken wings and thought the food was very tasty and freshly prepared. Chicken wings were't very spicy. We were told the preparation and delivery time could be up to...

It took 3 hours for this restaurant to get the food to the delivery driver. Not acceptable at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to the restaurant with my friend a few days ago! it is very close to the University , the food is amazing there, the best Chinese food I have ever had in Edinburgh, highly recommended.
