Always Great food and staff are always super friendly

Bland, tasteless, expensive food. Everything appeared to have been emptied straight out of a freezer bag and was overcooked. Avoid! As the owner has asked the question I will take the time to answer. All of your food was poor but I take particular exception to the shredded salt and chilli chicken. I was served a portion of battered straws which were rock hard and it was certainly shredded. You could barely taste the miniscule threads of chicken contained therein. This was not aided by the excessive amounts of salt used in the process. There were no other flavours nor did your "chef" even bother to add any vegetables? I could have bought the same low quality shredded chicken from a low cost supermarket or wholesaler and deep fried it because that's all your "chef" did 🤷‍♂️ The food was frankly of an unacceptable standard and you're really putting the boot in charging £12 for the pleasure 😞

Excellent takeaway. Szechuan dishes have actually Szechuan peppers in them. Far superior good to Ming Palace or New Fortune Cookie.

Sadly, I was not super impressed with this. The spring rolls tasted strange, and the food was a touch oily.

Best Chinese takeaway in the area

I understand this Chinese takeaway was really busy tonight so much so they had to stop taking orders and my order to over an hour. Once I had my meal it was very poor. I had chicken black bean sauce it was really tasteless and again the fried rice was all congealed after stating on the phone when I ordered my meal about the rice being congealed the last time. I'm sorry to say I wont be back for a while.

Our favourite Chinese takeaway for years. Food is fresh and tasty - we love the salt and chilli prawns, crispy beef with sweet chili sauce and anything with cashew nuts! Rice, chips and noodles all "not gloopy". Lovely people too.

We have been having wonderful takeaways from your restaurant for over 15 years. Recently we have had 2 takeaways on different occasions, the first time the rice wrapped prawns and the salt and pepper squid were very greasy and soggy. The second takeaway included a special chow mein, which I often get, it turned out to be a bit like dried spaghetti with little bits of meat through it, with none of the usual slices of chicken, beef or char siu, and no sauce over it. Very disappointing

Absolutely disgusting! The bbq spare ribs didn’t even taste like bbq they tasted old and they were full of fat I spent £30 on a order and it’s all in the bin i definitely don’t recommend I won’t be ordering again so disappointed 🤮🤮

This is now what I would describe as tasty British style Chinese food Delivered within 1 hour, during dinner time Friday night, which I really appreciate. Food was hot and tasty on arrival. I had ordered in the past and previously left critical feedback, and tonight I was completely satisfied, and more than happy with the owners receptive attitude to criticism. You have to respect that they listened to their customers. 10/10 service

It’s been very hard to find a good gluten free Chinese takeaway however new Xian has great tasty options on their menu. The delivery’s are always early or on time however the restaurant is busy on a Friday and Saturday ( because they are so great) so can sometimes be a couple minutes late. My family love their food and always get me to bring them some every week, I don’t think I’ll ever even try another Chinese lol. All in all great restaurant, lovely staff and I’d defenitely recommend.

Basically just thoroughly disappointing. Wouldn't recommend to anyone other than the whitest Karen. Sichuan tends to invoke thoughts of Sichuan pepper corns, chillies, aromatic oils etc. I also asked for this dish to be extra spicy. My food came. Just 6 small prawns (cooked separately and added in later so completely bland and not seasoned at all), swimming in a watery, bland, sickly sweet sauce with no chilli, no ginger, no garlic, no Sichuan peppercorn or anything. Completely inedible and devoid of any flavour to speak of. I ended up just throwing it away as it was so disgusting. I ate the rice, but sadly this was very dry itself. I don't understand why Chinese people make such bad food for British people. Why don't you make the Chinese menu for everyone, or cook like my Chinese friends cook? Utterly disappointed in this food and finally decided to give up on Chinese takeaway food completely.

Well...... This used to be our "go to" Chinese carry out and it used to be very good, however it's gone downhill badly. Just spent £27.30 on a delivery, salt+chilli chicken wings, 2 lemon chickens and 3 fried rice. To say we were disappointed is a bit of an understatement. The chicken wings were very gristly, the fried rice was lukewarm and dry, almost like it was a few days old. The lemon chicken had a good flavour but was rather tough. Don't know if there's a new chef but it was certainly nowhere near as good as it used to be. Also, another local takeaway would have included prawn cracker and mini spring rolls for an order of that amount as a wee freebie, we got neither. 🤨

Ordered food from here and even though there was a mix up with delivery (as where we stay can be awkward to find if you don't know it) we got what we asked for without any issues from the shop and it was really nice food.

Esta comida para llevar se reabrió recientemente tras el cierre debido al virus corona. Ahora está proporcionando un servicio de solo entrega con pedido y pago en línea. No puede comunicarse con la comida para llevar por teléfono. Hicimos nuestro pedido alrededor de las 5. 30 pm, el local solo abre a las 5 pm y, para ser justos, el sitio en línea advirtió que podría haber retrasos. Sin embargo, esperábamos tener nuestra comida alrededor de las 7 pm a más tardar, que era la hora indicada. Habíamos observado el aumento de la escala de tiempo cuando hicimos nuestro pedido. El tiempo de entrega fue alrededor de las 7. 45 pm que es un tiempo de espera excesivo. Si bien la comida estaba bien cuando finalmente llegó, no volvería a hacer un pedido hasta que se reanude el servicio normal y podamos recogerlo dado que estamos dentro de un radio de 5 minutos a pie.

Mientras trabajaba en Edimburgo durante 2 semanas, utilicé este lugar aproximadamente 5 veces.Probé varias cosas del menú y todo fue comida china de excelente calidad.La entrega fue siempre dentro de los 30 minutos.Siempre usaré este lugar cuando trabaje en el área. . .Solo desearía que todas las comidas chinas fueran de este estándar. . . . ????

Given this place a chance twice, there wont be a third. The food is awful. Garlic and Chilli Chicken-more like Garlic and Chili onion. A tasteless gloopy sauce with no hint of either garlic or chili, an amass of thickly cut onion and virtually no chicken. The lemon chicken- not even a hint of lemon. The meat was covered in some sort of really salty tomato sauce. Avoid like the plague.

Almost every meal I've had from this Gem of a carry out of Edinburgh. Quality is always great. Deliveries always arrive out the pans/woks hot, I do not think I've waited over 35-40mins either. Deserves 6 stars IMO.

Just picked up my food, starter of paper prawns swimming in grease - they are in the bin as the ribs - clearly microwaved and not edible. Really expensive, never again ! If I could give no stars I would

Wonderful delicious food and excellent menu. Fairly priced too. Had prawn Guilin Tofu in Chilli sauce. I rarely buy Chines food but was out voted by friends visiting. From now on that changes. Cannae wait for my next take - away.

Greasy food. Got order wrong and was unreasonable. There are tastier, less greasy take always in the area.

Dumplings are great and it's one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh as i personally think that most Chinese takeaway places don't compare to Ayrshire and this one by far is the closest.

Just had a lovely Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Chow Mein. Very simple but tasty dishes and generous portions to feed two adults and two kids. Excellent!

The family's to go takeout place. Generous portions, great for a family. We already have our favourites, so not very adventurous of us, we know exactly what each of us want, and we get it every time just as expected. Good food!

Needed a carry out for a family gathering up on Edinburgh. This one was nearby, and they delivered. We really enjoyed it- a lovely variety and very tasty.

Regular user of this takeaway. Quick service, tasty food, reasonable price. We phone in our order and collect. It is always ready when we arrive. Perfect for those nights when you can't be bothered to cook. Huge portions.

Good food but website misleading about collection wait time when placing order on line. Initially said 15 minutes but after order placed increased to 40 minutes and was actually 50 minutes before we got our food. In fairness staff apologised that it took longer

He sido un cliente de mucho tiempo después de que descubrí este raro ganso dorado de comida sabrosa, siempre está fuera de la calidad más alta y más fresca. Siempre utilizo el servicio de entrega y rara vez he tenido que esperar más de 30 minutos y siempre llego caliente. No hay nada malo que pueda decir sobre New Xian desde allí crujiente carne picada, hay chow meins y sopa agridulce. He probado una variedad de menú y la comida siempre ha sido fantástica. . 99 de cada 100 en consistencia en más de 3 años, solo llegó la comida cuando no hacía mucho calor cuando un nuevo conductor de entrega cometió un error y cuando se trataba de un área diferente. Lo cual es un error fácil, creo que como hice que los taxis fueran a la misma dirección que es la mía.

This place is amazing,Im here on holiday and come from new Zealand and we have Chinese takeaway galore and nothing has ever tasted this good. Will definitely be coming back here before i leave scotland.

Esto no es una queja porque algunos de los sabores eran casi bien, pero tan lejos como para conseguir una comida glutinous este califica de la lista y me recuerda que la llamada menús locales de comida china están alejadas de cualquier cosa que uno pueda conseguir en e. g. Hong Kong (yo no he visitado China continental). No parece importar lo que se está preparado, todo termina como un lodo glutinous, que es horrible. Realmente una pena, ya que Xian fue recomendado.

Me encanta el nuevo Xian! Sólo cambiaron a Morningside y vivir enfrente, así que decidimos darle una oportunidad. Ahora han pedido varias veces de ellos y honestamente puedo decir que es la mejor comida china para llevar que he tenido. We'd been using a different Chinese takeaway for years, until we discovered New Xian just down the road! I think we ordered three times that week, we were so impressed. We mostly collect but have had deliveries. Food is always hot and fresh, and we've tried a lot of dishes.

Hemos usado la nueva Xian para un buen par de años y creo que es genial, la comida y encantadora sabor es fresco. Lo único negativo que decir las pocas últimas veces que pedimos costillas han sido bastante grasoso y no un montón de carne que ha sido decepcionante.

Food is always good, and service ! Home deliveries are super quick and the drivers really nice. Have tried another couple of local places, but always go back to the Xi'an.

Food is always good, short waiting times (if collecting). Recommend the Salt & Chilli King Prawns as a starter.

Sometimes great sometimes not. We use this take away almost every week and have mostly had very good experiences with only the occasional disaster. When that happens it feels like the usual chief goes on holiday We will keep using it.

Food was good, tasty, orange chicken was lovely. However the pork dish we ordered although very nice was rather small, felt like half was missing. We have had better salt and pepper chicken before, but this was ok just a bit dry. It is not over priced, staff friendly and was ready very quickly. We would probably use it again but will keep looking for a new "regular place" as our local has closed. 26/07/15

This was the second time to order from here. First time was 6 months ago and it was reasonably. This time however was poor. Takeway took 1hr 30min to arrive. The food was obviously sitting for a long period of time as it was only warm not hot. I asked for prawn crackers with the order and I was informed that any order costing £20 plus comes with crackers. My order cost £23 pounds and no crackers arrived with takeaway. Overall this was very disappointing and we will not return to this take away.

Nos apetecía un cambio de nuestro normal chino llevar a cabo ... y ojalá nos equivocábamos! era totalmente asqueroso! llegó tibia ... y el plato mixto fue terrible ... la tostada de gambas era duro como una roca y el mositure único que tenía era el aceite que rezuman de!!
