We were very excited about going to San carlo Leeds flying pizza as we have been to other San Carlos in the UK We do love fine dining but sadly we were let down today as the 2 dishes we order which 1 was lobster signature dish which was a let down it's was cold and over cooked ...2 was the lobster and crab ravioli which lovely and hot. Sadly after we sent the dish back which was cold we were ignored and one of the managers was curt in say we don't serve food over cooked.

***UPDATE**** Several weeks later, I’ve still not heard back from the restaurant. Seems they try to take the conversation offline but don’t do anything about it, very disappointing. Severely disappointed - not what it used to be. Avoid mid week! Having grown up in Roundhay I’ve spent a lot of good times here. Went on Tuesday and it was empty, so you’d expect the service to be on point and the food to be good. They initially took fairly long to take the drinks order but I didn’t think much of it, but when the food arrived a server came over and asked how the food was before we’d even had chance to properly start, so of course we said everything was fine. As we continued eating, every dish was below average. The pizza was super thin which would have been fine if the base wasn’t rock hard, the ravioli wasn’t even cooked properly, and the zucchini was so oily. I kept trying to get one of the servers attention when we’d finished and she kept looking at me but would rather slowly lay other tables for guests who weren’t even going to arrive (it was dead!) before coming over to us. When she eventually did (about 20-25 mins after we’d finished) we told her that the food wasn’t that great and she just laughed, and then said it’s the same chef as who’s on at the weekend. Weirdly we had said to each other a few minutes prior that it must have been a different chef on vs the weekend, so it was as though she knew the chef isn’t as good. All in all, service was rubbish and rude, the fact that we paid a £13 service charge made it even worse, and £135+ down the drain for below average food, extortionate drinks prices (a small rose was £15), and the atmosphere was rubbish. If the service was like how it used to be I wouldn’t have left a review, but when its downfalls aren’t made up for others need to be aware. Not what it used to be and severely dissapointed as a regular customer.

It has taken me a long time to write the review and I have been putting it off but I felt it was wrong of me to. It share my experience Firstly - the food cannot fault it! It was lovely. Me and my sisters took our children after visiting a play cafe nearby. I was extremely excited to visit hearing great reviews and after some difficulty in finding parking - walked through the door. I stood with my 4 year old and a heavy baby seat waiting to be seated only to be ignored by the woman who was sorting glasses behind the bar. She saw me a few times and didn’t even acknowledge me. I then said excuse me loudly and she was like ‘What would you like’ - I told her it was pretty obvious I was waiting for a table after she had seen and ignored me on a few occasions (I’m talking a few. Minutes here) - she then said something under her breath and seemed flustered and took me to a table. The restaurant was pretty empty- it was Monday lunchtime and there was a party of guests. We had 4 children been 3 of us - we asked them to take away wine glasses etc and again the waiter seemed annoyed by this. He had a really strange attitude - angry and nice at the same time. We ordered our food - and accidentally my niece dropped a side plate. My sister apologised and said it was an accident and he said ‘what like did she throw it and it was an accident- how wa sit an accident ’ - again clearly annoyed. My niece is 2 years old. My sister apologised again - the kids were sat playing with their toys- not massively loud nor quite. There was a weird atmosphere - abit tense - we felt really unwelcome almost like tour faces didn’t fit. But what really annoyed me the most- was that my sister ordered a pasta with meat (we were told the meat was halal) and we were asked if we needed Parmesan. She asked if there was vegetarian Parmesan and the waiter pulled a face - annoyed ‘Madam I am Italian we do not do vegetarian cheese that’s not real cheese’- He then went on to say ‘I don’t understand you- you want meat in your food and vegetarian Parmesan- and started muttering under his breath and making hand gestures of annoyance’ my sister pregnant was taken aback abit and said okay: At this point I got abit angry and called him over - I explained that the meat was halal and she could eat it but the Parmesan she couldn’t because it’s not halal. He said ‘okay okay’ and walked off. After that he blew hot and cold but it really left a negative impact on everything. The atmosphere was lovely - and the service was good too- but the attitude of both the blonde lady at the door and the waiter was awful. I have very rarely felt unwanted in a space. And the staff really made us feel Unwelcome- the tone of the waiter in particular was rude if we didn’t have 3 hungry kids we would have walked out. So I don’t know- maybe we caught the staff on a bad day- which is a shame because the food was nice. But regardless - I have never made to feel like this in any establishment - from being ignored at the door to being spoken to so rudely. I highly suggest some kind of staff training. And if your issue is with certain types of people or families with children- maybe a sign on the door will help.

The ambience is perfect, plenty of choice on the menu, and very attentive staff, probably because we went at lunch-time, on a Friday. It's a bit pricey but well worth it for the ambience and food quality. We had pulled chicken insalata salad and Avocado Bernardo with Arancini for starters. Arancini was mouth-wateringly delicious. For the main course, we had Risotto ai Frutti di Mare. It was good, but I'm not sure if it was worth £23 per head for a seafood risotto. The Panacotta was superb; the best we have had so far in Britain!!!!!! Everything was flushed down with an espresso shot. Thank you, San Carlos. We had a lovely start to the new year. Sunday lunchtime meal so wasn’t too busy. A great time to visit. Went with a friend and we both ordered different steaks. Both meals were perfect and the sauces were gorgeous. A side order of peas in a cream sauce were really lovely. Staff were friendly and attentive house wine was good. Cannot fault it and will definitely be back.

It was ace - everything about it - from welcome, to service, quality of food, atmosphere (no dodgy stairs to contend with to go to the loo now it’s been done up too!). Really great evening. We have been dining at Flying Pizza for many years. It is consistently good. The staff and service is excellent, while the food is delicious. I had the monkfish for the first time on my last visit and it was amazing! Cooked beautifully in a tomato sauce that was perfection. I can’t wait to have it again.

We’ve been to Flying Pizza on numerous occasions prior to the refurbishment and quality of food has always been brilliant We were very much looking forward to our dinner reservation. It’s been upgraded and looks lovely with the new deco and pink chairs. Food has gone downhill though and not value for money. Small portions and tastes ordinary. It looked good on the plates but not flavorsome at all. Really disappointed with the experience

I went for a meal here and I am now 3 days in with a bout of terrible food poisoning since my visit. I had the pork ribs for starters and a lobster pasta dish for main. My friend ordered differently and hasn’t been affected. Overall the restaurant is lovely looking - we sat in the conservatory but it is very pretentious and we felt the waiters were overly attentive, several different waiters checking in with us too many times during the meal we could hardly start a conversation between us without being interrupted. Update: 17 days of illness and a course of antibiotics were needed. I have yet to get a response from the restaurant. I have filled in all the relevant info on the document they sent. Service isn’t acceptable. 31/10/24 as of today I have still had no response to my complaint of food poisoning. I have chased a response several times to keep being told the compliance manager will be in touch. It begs the question do they have a compliance manager! The aftercare has been shockingly bad with no comeback to my complaint. I was extremely ill after eating at this restaurant and had to take a considerable amount of time off work in which I’m self employed resulting in a huge financial loss. This has been relayed to the restaurant and there has been nothing but silence. 02/12 - still no response to my complaint. Service is terrible

I went to the flying pizza, Street Lane yesterday for my birthday with my husband. We ordered starters and a large seafood dish to share with sides, the starters came promptly and were delicious. Then we were waiting and waiting for our mains, other customers were receiving their mains before us when we had ordered before them. I enquired with a young waiter to see if our order had not been taken, he said he would find out and still we waited. So then my husband went to ask the older looking male waiter who seemed to be in charge, who at the time was putting an order into the computer system. My husband said "excuse me" and without looking at him the waiter held his hand up in his face to motion my husband to not talk to him. Then probably realising his rudeness the waiter apologised and said he was in the middle of something, which is no excuse for such rude treatment. I have been a waitress in the past and I would never dream of dismissing a paying customer like that, being a waiter your job is to multitask and if you struggle to do this in a polite and efficient manner then you are in the wrong industry. Then our main came out and we were asked what sides were ordered with it, so I asked if our order was not taken and the waiter said it was a problem in the kitchen that our mains were called away instead of starters. However this doesn't make sense because if that was the case we would have been asked if we wanted deserts or more drinks, we were not spoken to for an hour after receiving our starters. During which the elderly waiter was speaking at length to the woman sat next to us while we were simply ignored. To top off such terrible service we were given the bill with the service charge added, no apologies, no adjustments to the bill for the mistakes made. This is such a shame and I really feel for the kitchen staff because the food is always beautiful, the venue is beautiful but the staff, specifically the older male waiter needs to change his attitude and realise he is working in the service industry and to treat customers with respect. All in all a very negative experience for my birthday celebration.

We came here on Friday 20th September on an evening to celebrate my son’s birthday! There was 6 adults in our party, and we had a great night. My son has insisted on this restaurant for his birthday for the last 7 years, he loves it that much, but since our last visit it’s had an amazing refurb, and what a great job they’ve done. Much more classy, lovely cosy atmosphere, but as always the staff and service is second to none. They’ve done a few changes to their menu too, so much choice, the food is just simply amazing here, we all had something different and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff so attentive and chatty too, with a lovely birthday cake brought over to my son and a nice little chorus sang to him which was lovely. I can’t recommend this place enough, whether it’s for a family meal or just couples, the atmosphere is always good, always busy, so you must book! Love it. You must try. Thanks again for making my sons night so special x

We arrived early for our meal but there was no space in the bar area for a drink so went to the pub next door. Arrived back for the time we'd booked for- 9pm- and took a while to get seated. Once seated and given menus it must have been at least 10/15 minutes before anyone came to take even a drinks order. At that point we ordered food as well. Took ages for the drinks to arrive. Asked for tap water as well but were told there were 'no jugs available' so could have bottled water instead at a cost. We said no and he said he'd bring us a jug when one became available. We never got it. (Could they not have filled 2 glasses from the tap??) Took ages for the food to arrive. When our Italian bread starter arrived we asked for olive oil and balsamic vinegar to accompany it. We received the oil, but no vinegar. We had to remind them about the vinegar but had to wait so long we'd virtually finished the bread. Main courses were delicious. We then had to wait ages for them to be cleared away and no one came to ask about desserts or the bill. Eventually, after waiting ages, we called someone over to ask for the bill. It was 11pm by now and we were keen to get home. We got the bill but no one came to take our payment. Again after having to wait we called someone over, who eventually found someone else and we were able to pay and leave. I eat out a lot and don't usually experience such slow, disinterested service. Unpersonal and style over service.

Our first time back since the refurbishment and what a lovely place. This is a lovely eatery and the service beginning to end was spot on. Both friendly and professional. A genuine Italian restaurant. The food is excellent. The spaghetti carbonara was particularly noteworthy. It's pricey but I am pleased to say that here you do get what you pay for! We will be back!

Updated review (since refurbishment) I've had good experiences here in the past and was so looking forward to this visit to see the refurbished restaurant. First impressions were great - it looks beautiful. We had a good table in the conservatory - which is much nicer than it used to be. We asked for sparkling water as we were seated, this didn't arrive until after we had ordered drinks which was over 10+ minutes - and the restaurant was not that busy. We had oysters pre-stater which were average and quite gritty. Our starters arrived a full 5 minutes apart. Mine was hot and so cooled quite a lot before my partners cold starter arrived (which was only after we had chased the waiter). Our wine was in an ice bucket behind us, but no waiter checked when we needed our glasses topping up. My partner had to turn awkwardly to reach the bottle so we could fill glasses ourselves. We had a shared main of steak and lobster. The steak was superbly cooked and delicious. The lobster was overcooked and chewy in places. The waiting staff varied greatly from professional and friendly to seemingly stressed and unapproachable. We found it hard to get their attention most of the time (the couple at the next table commented on this too). This wasn't for the lack of staff, but because they seemed drawn to certain tables, perhaps regular guest, where they spent plenty of time chatting. We on the other hand were snapped at on one occasion - as though we were asking too much of the waiter. We spent £250 for two people and the experience was not good enough for this price. We often dine in San Carlo Leeds so knew the food would be good and to be honest it was very good if pricy. The old FP was always cliquey and it still is but to be fair if you are a regular I suppose you will be made a fuss of but it seemed that new faces were not made as welcome although our young waitress was very nice. The main part of the restaurant is very dark and we were not alone in getting our torches out to see the menu The bar area is very small lots of people at the bar which makes it hard to get to the reception! We were early so had a drink at the bar although it was hard to get too as people just sat at the bar including children We had a nice mea but will stick with the city centre one.

Decided to re visit on Monday lunchtime with my elderly uncle. Absolutely beautiful food & service. Such a warm welcome & very attentive to our needs & filling wine glasses. The food was amazing, we shared the San Carlos appetiser and were advised just to over it for 2. Perfect All 3 mains were yummy & then the famous ice cream. We will definitely be back. Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed on our recent visit. Our starter and three of the mains were beautiful and that is why I've still rated a 3, however, one of the mains, a pizza was only luke warm not hot, although it tasted nice. The service was poor with me having to remind staff twice that a side was missing, meaning our guest was half way through her steak when her chips arrived, which were just plonked on the table when they came, without checking who they were for or apologising and not giving them chance to ask for vinegar so I went to ask for this and this was then also plonked on the table with no eye contact or comment. On the staff's recommendation, who said all desserts were freshly home made on site, two were order but were clearly not freshly made as the meringue and cream was dry and the flaky pastry was hard and chewy not crispy. They tasted like they had been frozen and allowed to thaw. I ordered 2 lattes to come with dessert and they never arrived. For the prices charged, these issues need ironing out as it is usually such a treat and wonderful experience to eat here.

Disappointing experience, went for a special family occasion, the service wasn’t what I would expect from this venue. Left for long periods without anyone coming anywhere near the table or even attempting eye contact, wrong starters brought to the table, the large prawns in the Frito Misto were awful, main courses attempted to be delivered while we were still clearly in the middle of our starters, two of the main courses were clap cold when they eventually did arrive and had to be replaced. In my opinion the steak & lobster dish, for what we actually received on the plate, 6/7 slices of fairly average cold steak and a tiny lobster with barely any meat inside, at £80 was quite frankly disgraceful, add to this £20.75 for a glass of rosé and an £80 service charge, everything needs to be so much better if you want to charge these prices. There is a positive however, after we sent the two main courses back and I explained we were disappointed with all of the above the service changed completely, much more attentive and felt more like a valued customer, that’s exactly how it should have been from the start, so they can do it. The inherent beauty of this wonderful restaurant goes much deeper than their recent face-lift. Dining with my wife and children in the conservatory on a beautiful Sunday evening, it was the service and quality of the food that eclipsed the stylish new interior. Vito and his colleagues couldn’t have made us feel more welcome - attentive, generous and charming. The food is getting better every time we come. Stunning crispy arancini, oozing on the inside, drenched in cream and generously covered in truffle. Lobster tagliolini, a lip smacking delight, and my wife’s sea bass perfectly cooked in a salt crust, moist and plentiful. My girls had / smashed the granny out of their usual spaghetti bolognaise - freshly made pasta holding a rich, unctuous ragu with mountains of fresh Parmesan. The lemon sorbet, hazelnut chocolate cake to finish, hit the spot nearly as well as the bottle of Chablis and a well made Negroni. The Flying Pizza is back with a swagger and deservedly so. For me, service is everything and they have it in spades.

Nice atmosphere but food is average, ordered 3 pizzas, they all arrived different sizes with inconsistent toppings. £4 for the tiniest bottle of coke and £6 for a pint of beer is a joke. Nice of them to add the tip on the bill without you deciding what percent you want to give, took them about 10 minutes after being seated to ask for our drinks order, lost it's spark big time has the flying pizza.

We went as family for my daughter’s 21st birthday, food was amazing, my daughter’s steak was unreal as she put it . The staff were so lovely , friendly, funny and attentive. Massive shout out to the lovely guy who showed us his photos of all the Leeds united players.. he is brilliant. Honestly, we had a lovely afternoon and we will return.

Food was fine, not quite worth the price of £17 for a pizza. Biggest issue was the staff rushing through trying to get us out. Got asked if we were ready to order food 5 mins after sitting down, we said no, 2 minutes later. Are you ready now? Table behind us got the top class treatment of recommendations and courtesy. Forks barely hit the plate before they started clearing them away. Working class people clearly not welcome among their usual posh cliental.

Lovely place, delicious food, amazing staff. As always we left very happy, it’s not just that food makes us happy 😋 We had a dinner at SCFP for my bday and our anniversary- it was a lovely experience Oysters were serve the „insta” was 😻 we also had sea food risotto - my partner isn’t really a seafood lover but he enjoyed it very much - which means it was really good ♥️ Welters were taking really good care of us making sure we got everything. If You can’t decide what drink would go best with your meal- just ask and they will help you pick the right choice. By the end when we wanted to ask for a bill we got dessert surprise 😻 10/10

Had a fantastic time here with a large group celebrating a friend’s birthday - it was the whole party’s first time here and we all loved it. Firstly, the service was impeccable and very attentive. I noticed staff coming to check on us without disturbing us very frequently, topping up wine, and all were very friendly and polite. They were great with bringing out the cake we brought as well. Truly could not fault the service whatsoever. For food, I had the Famous Spaghetti Frutti du Mare and it was really nice. I’d had my eye on it when I’d looked at the menu beforehand. Price-wise it’s a little more expensive than other things on the menu but I felt it was worth it. I tried the mussel in white wine sauce starter as well and that was brilliant. The price of the food here is very fair for the quality you get. I was driving but others in my party were drinking and we felt that’s where the price was bumped up a bit as the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. Overall a great experience and would definitely come again.

The Flying Pizza has lost none of its quality over the years, service is still a little stand offish and they believe in their own self importance but food is top shelf but they know how to charge for it also. They let themselves down with the drinks, who serves sodas out of small bottles nowadays, a throwback to money making out of soda. Atmosphere is always there still a place to be seen, however, the food makes up for it

Came here with my family for a birthday meal - we were in a large group and were seated in a semi-private area which was great. The pros were that the atmosphere was great with great decor and it has been recently renovated. The cocktails and drinks were served promptly and the service was great. The only thing I would say is that the food was very hit and miss with the breaded scallops being disappointing, tasting very dry. I would highly recommend the lamb which was tasty. Overall great service and atmosphere but the food needs some improvement.

Been here on a few occasions and never disappointed. Last visited just over a week ago for my fiancé’s birthday & was blown away over the friendliness of the team. I have been coming to the Flying Pizza for many years. However, New Year’s Eve I was really disappointed. We were put on a table in the corner and basically forgotten about for 30 minutes. Somebody eventually did come and take the order. The food was nice but they forgot one of the starters meaning we didn’t all eat together. With a bill which was a lot of money as there was 9 of us, I left feeling really disappointed.

Fantastic experience on a very busy day We booked for Christmas Eve a table for 10 and we wanted to be in the conservatory They never promised but we ended up in there Service was impeccable friendly helpful fantastic to say they were very busy Food was hot and fabulous we had pasta and a fillet steak for 2 can’t fault it Even tho my meal was a little late I never really minded as the atmosphere was so good and it was complimentary after being late So pleased it made our family day thank you ♥️

Extremely confused by all the bad reviews , I’ve been here 4 times now each time was excellent and I felt I was treated really well ! The food was perfect , all of it , the wait times were fine , only slight issue was that no one came to collect the payment so I had to go to the counter to pay , but it’s not enough to make me unhappy at all about the experience, I will continue to come here and to recommend.

Please do not bother this is coming from An Italian I am embarrassed! the pasta had nothing Italian about it ,the whole place … except the odd member of staff .. chef’s am sorry you need to try a new profession, honestly if I wasn’t on a business do’ I would of walked out sent everything back & not paid never in my life have I done this or wanted too now if that doesn’t say something.. oh and nothing to take a photo of the food was that embarrassing so no social media snaps!! We are 3 pensioners pushing the boat out for a Christmas lunch and so know that this restaurant is not cheap. However the food is always excellent and today was no exception. Yes there's a but coming. But we were not expecting to pay an extra £11 for our Pinot Grigio. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio at what we thought was £33.50. "Pinot Grigio San Carlo?" said the waitress. So, as we thought, the house wine. No, that one's £44.50 as we discovered when the bill came. I understand that it's probably company policy to try and sell the more expensive wine, but, (another but) we feel duped. A different waitress took our payment and she was having none of it; to paraphrase, that's what you drank, that's what you pay for. Buyer beware.

What a disappointment! It’s a few years since I last ate in this restaurant, time has done it no favours. I ordered tempura prawns for starter, it looked identical to the prawn cocktail my friend ordered, with the exception of some soggy batter. The sauce was the same, the lettuce it was on was the same, the serving dish was the same and the mayo dressing was the same as the prawn cocktail . Almost £14 for 5 rather small tasteless prawns is excessive. Lobster and crab ravioli with pink peppercorn sauce for mains, goodness only knows where the lobster was but it wasn’t in my meal. The pink peppercorn sauce has changed substantially (not for the better) since my last visit. It was more of a tomato sauce with added peppercorns on top. It was far too overpowering for the dish and seemed to me to be the same tomato sauce that many other dishes were served with. There’s a huge menu at the Flying Pizza, perhaps it would be better to reduce this and go back to doing things better. I don’t mind a slightly higher price point if it’s a quality product, this wasn’t.

Had been really excited to try here so drove from Darlington, the manager who greeted us and took our order seemed like he was looking down on us like he made us feel like we weren’t good enough to be in there, well £200 later to feed 2 adults & 3 kids- Every customer should be made to feel welcome! Also he needs to smile when greeting people. Place wasn’t busy, kids enjoyed the pizza and lobster spaghetti, steak was nice nothing flash really definitely not worth the hype or money. Disappointed and felt very unwelcome.

Recently ate as a Walk-in with the family at San Carlo, Flying Pizza, Roundhay, Leeds. We visited on a Saturday around 2.30 pm and received a warm welcome. We didn’t have a reservation but were shown to a lovely table in the centre of the restaurant. The ambience and atmosphere were fantastic and the service throughout from all the staff was faultless. The food was beautiful, fresh ingredients, traditional Italian, and there was a good selection for the kids who had pizzas which were a great size. I polished off a Chicken Calzone (picture won’t do it justice) and the good lady had Ravioli; we also shared some Calamari to start. Loved the viewing window into the kitchen and interactivity with the chef. At the time we visited, there was a large group table and the restaurant was approximately two thirds full. All service was prompt and it brought back a lot of good memories from time spent of yesteryear. Value was OK with drinks; Peroni on tap and strong wine list, and we will certainly be back, in a heartbeat. We were casually dressed, but the restaurant would suit any occasion, from family meal out, birthday celebration, group meal or romantic dining. From our experience, I can certainly recommend San Carlo’s Flying Pizza, Roundhay, Leeds.

I love this place. I’ve been several times and it’s always got such a lovely atmosphere and a warm welcome from the two owners. The pizza is delicious and I am never disappointed. It’s simple tasty food, not fancy but that makes it even more delightful I think. I would encourage everyone to go and try it out, Yeadon lacks good places to eat and places that open up don’t seem to stay long. I hope this place stays ❤️
