Overpriced, tasteless food, possibly the worst I’ve had in a longtime .. busy place but lacks attention to getting your food right ..

Very much recommend this restaurant and amazing food. Only problem was the table slot was timed and we were asked to move on from our seats rather abruptly when still consuming drinks 🍸 🙄 into the bar area which was full for seating and standing capacity.

Went for birthday lunch 23rd May. One meal was served cold but replaced when told. Other two meals were dreadful. Nit fresh ingredients chicken in pasta was in squares so obviously from processed frozen.

The moment you enter, the resturant was light up with art like decoration. With bars at the front before leading to our table at the back. Ordered a truffle mushroom pizza and penne bolognese pasta for mains and fried rice ball with truffle as starter. Order their signature cocktail “Charlie charpin”. The fried rice ball was nice with a balance taste on the gravy and rice was cooked well covered. In my view, both pizza and pasta were too salty and overwhelming. But tiramisu and mango sobert were good to pull the experience back. On my observation, the servers taking care of zone I am sitting was One of the worst services I have ever met in such resturant. I had the rice ball and pizza for my meal but not even attentive to give me a side plate. Attitude was bad as of could not care less on spending in comparison to other diners. Would I go again, might not with this experience. Very disappointing!

Under whelming and disappointed first visit heard good things but overpriced and your paying for the name service from staff was good but the food was no better than other restaurants who charge less , ordered main course after starter and it came within 5 minutes or so ,this tells me it is not cooked fresh and wife was ill straight after and very busy

Really excellent food, but really I don’t like the behaviour of the staff, the way they act, is like they do you a favour in serving your food, like you are getting the food free of charge.

The food was good, service was good but the atmosphere can be a little pretentious.

Restaurante de lujo con un servicio decente. Pero eso no ayuda cuando el nivel de comida se desploma totalmente. En los días de hace 10-15 años San Carlo lo hizo bien. Pero los estándares actuales en alimentos son realmente pobres. Burrata con tomate de res y parmaham para empezar. Plato lleno de agua de los tomates, jamón de parma y burrata insípido y de baja calidad. Langostapasta totalmente falló. Pasta demasiado cocida, sin sabores y langosta también totalmente cocida. Impactante en un lugar como este. Pedí una botella de Biondi Santi, pero se agotó. Terminó con un muy buen Barolo en su lugar. Lamentablemente, el nivel de alimentos está fallando totalmente. Muchas opciones mejores. Es una pena, porque es un buen restaurante.

Demasiado lleno para un mercado. La comida está bien, pero trabajando en Italia constantemente no era tan grande. El marisco parece estar congelado y no fresco. El gerente abierta y vocalmente distrayendo a un miembro del personal junto a nuestra mesa de una manera agresiva me ha desanimado.

Love San Carlo! Everything is tip top. Service is perfect, the team are very friendly and work together, you know they are ready to help at anytime but not pushy. I noticed they really try and make younger diners very welcome and help with food choices if the need to. The food is simply excellent and they have a super wide range of drinks.

Llegó al postre y nos entregaron menús y nos dieron recomendaciones, solo para luego decirnos que no habría tiempo ya que nuestra mesa tenía que estar disponible para la próxima reserva. Acabo de pasar la tarde en el San Carlo de Liverpool. No me apresuraré a regresar. A pesar de estar vacío se tardó demasiado en pedir nuestras bebidas. Entonces, en lugar de llevarse la comida encima, se van. Entonces tuve que preguntar si podíamos pedir nuestra comida porque nunca volvieron a la mesa. Trajeron nuestro pan de ajo sin ningún plato lateral y tuvimos que llamar al personal para solicitar platos. A lo largo de nuestra comida nadie preguntó si queríamos más bebidas a pesar de que nuestros vasos estaban vacíos. Nadie recogió nuestros platos una vez que terminamos y los dejó sentados allí vacíos en la mesa. Nunca nos ofrecieron el menú de postres o la cuenta, así que tuve que pedir la cuenta. Y para colmo, se agregó un cargo por servicio automático a la factura. Si hubiera tenido el dinero en efectivo, habría dejado la cantidad menos el cargo por servicio y me habría ido. En ningún momento nos habían dicho que el cargo por servicio no era opcional. Simplemente pagué y me fui, pero no me apresuraré a regresar.

Dimitrios was amazing service asked personally for happy birthday to be played for my boyfriend on his own back was enthusiastic when taking our orders all and all amazing service

My friend & I went for dinner at San Carlo Liverpool last night and whilst the food was undeniably delicious, we felt as though we were rushed to eat and leave after only 45 minutes. We had pasta and garlic bread, as well as alcohol, and were offered to see the dessert menu as soon as our plates were taken away. As we said no they brought our bill and a card machine over within less than 5 minutes, even though we had planned to stay and have another drink or two. We were there for less than an hour even though in the confirmation email it says they give you 90 minutes. Not only did we feel pushed out, the room was very overcrowded and there were too many tables, to the point where every time people walked past our table they kept knocking my shoulders; my friend told me this also happened to her last time she went and she was on a different table on the other side of the room. Even though San Carlo’s food is amazing, I will definitely be going to somewhere more relaxed in the future!

Great service and the best frutti de mare I've eaten!

Really good experience, would return. Gorgeous venue, gorgeous food. Service was slightly slow at times and there was a bit of a delay with our booked table, but didn't effect the experience.

The second year we’ve come for Mother’s Day and again it did not disappoint. Food and service both excellent as always.

It was an superb experience, my friend and I are vegetarians for very long tine we didn’t try such a nice food as in San Carlo it is a bit pricey but i think it’s worth it and a huge thanks Inna for her recommendations and willingness to accommodate our requests. Definitely will come back

A group of 5 for a special birthday. Good service but food and wine very overpriced. What was funny was we waited over 25 mins for main course which was just pastas and risotto and then they had the cheek to hurry us up! To top it off there was a service charge of 15% which kind of ruined it.

Terrible proce for glass red wine 23 pound had 2 glasses was 47 pound 175ml also my lasagne was like a asda frozen meal for 1 my husband got filet steak for 35 pound no thing with it had to order fries which where like maccies fries and 2 un cut Tomatoes so dear for prices and food Terrible drinks well over priced never go here again rather go riva blue

This restaurant was outstanding in so many ways. From the moment you step through the door, you are greeted by an incredible atmosphere in the finest Art Deco style. The staff are impeccably dressed, and the entire place has a cohesive and well-thought-out aesthetic. The food was absolutely fantastic, and despite the restaurant’s luxurious appearance, the prices were surprisingly reasonable! The service was flawless, and we felt genuinely welcome from the moment we arrived until we left. There is hardly anything to criticize that could have improved the experience. If I had to mention one thing, it would be that period-appropriate music could have made the experience 100% complete. When we arrived, Gotan Project was playing through the speakers, which was, of course, a stylish choice in itself—so no complaints, just a minor detail. We will definitely be coming back!

Don't leave card tips, because it goes for the owners! Always leave cash tips, and the staff will split at the end of the week!

Staff were lovely however the food let you down,we ordered garlic bread with tomato which was thick with tomato paste,hardly a hint of garlic and thick doughy base,mains arrived the plates were hot however the food was luke warm thick pasta on the lobster ravioli,and the smallest portion of lasagne i have ever seen for over £17 and hardly any meat in it,We came for a nice lunch,the restaurant and staff where really lovely but the food not,great at all

Arrived on time and very busy had to wait 5 minutes for the table. Had really good food service not slow but reflected that the place was busy. Half way through desert and coffee asked by waiter if we could finish by the Bar as we had exceeded the time on the table. Well I don’t accept anything like that so we took the time to finish our meal. This is an expensive restaurant not a take away, bill came to over £220. So message is set the time to allow people to have a relaxed meal - accept that it is your service speed that also determines the time spent at the table. This was my 4th visit this year so I am a frequent traveller if not a committed regular.

A beautiful restaurant with friendly and efficient staff. Even the loos are fabulous! There's a great choice of quality food, beautifully cooked and presented and just the right amount. Can't wait to go again.

Loved this place. The food was incredible, and the service was perfect. Couldn't do enough for you. The only thing was it was very loud but that can't be helped because it was packed and every table was filled. Definitely recommend a visit.

Utterly dreadful in every way possible. We had a table of 4 booked at 7:45 pm on Saturday 7 February. We arrived at 7:40 and were asked to wait by the bar until the table was ready. We were then escorted to our table at 7:45 pm and from then on, the problems started and developed rapidly. We were given about 5 minutes to peruse the food and wine menus. We explained that we weren’t quite ready, which, given that we knew our bill would be around £300, we thought was a reasonable request.! 5 minutes later, they were on us aggressively trying to rush us. We ordered our wine and food, and then, within 10 minutes, the starters arrived. I’m not a chef, but come on, 10 minutes to cook 4 different starters? It was obvious that everything had been prepared in advance and either left in a heated plate or reheated quickly. Nonetheless, the starters were good, as it happens. So, then, within a short period after our starter plates were cleared, along came our mains. Again, producing 4 freshly cooked main meals within such a short period is an incredible accomplishment. I had Monkfish, which was OK but nothing to write home about. The plates were cleared by the locusts reaching over and interrupting whilst we ate, and the wine was poured without considering whether one of us was placing food into our mouths. It was truly dreadful. Shortly after our main course plates had been cleared, they came in groups to take our dessert or coffee courses. As it happens, none of us wanted a dessert, although a coffee may have been nice. However, the group of waiting staff and one particular aggressive waiter asked us to leave our tables and finish our Wine at the bar area. It was 9:10 pm, and they needed the table back for other guests. We were allowed to spend just 90 minutes at our table, regardless of whether our likely bill was £100 or £1000. As it happened, it was around £300 for 4 of us. Naturally, we complained, but the particularly aggressive waiter insisted we move. We reluctantly left our table and took our wine to the bar area. However, there were no areas with 4 seats. Eventually, the aggressive waiter found us 4 seats side by side in the middle bar area. We explained that we sat at a table of 4 where all 4 of us could enjoy and engage in the conversation, whilst 4 seats, or stools, weren’t conducive to a joint chat. We continued to complain, but the aggressive waiter seemed to become more aggressive. It was truly shocking. Words escape me. Having eaten at several top restaurants in the UK and multiple very high-end restaurants in Los Angeles, Singapore, San Francisco and elsewhere, this was the worst experience I have ever had to endure. Never again and I recommend you avoid San Carlo in Liverpool. There are lots of hugely superior alternatives.

I was at a table with 5 friends . Table was cramped. I ordered scallops for a starter. I received mussles . The waiter argued with me to the point at which rather than creating a scene I accepted the mussles. I had a very average sirloin steak for main , completely lacking in flavour . The chips were a disgrace , soggy, resembling 4 hour old chips. All for £80. Not again

Food was amazing. Plenty of options and delicious mozzarella, tastes just like authentic Italian pizza. Service was great, very attentive, and friendly. Atmosphere was nice however because it was busy there was a general buzz of noise to talk over. Also because of the amount of tables/chairs it was sometimes hard to move around.

Giovanni was so sweet! Fun dining experience. Reservations needed on the weekend for dinner as this place gets packed! Super delicious steak and lasagna (crème brûlée is delish too)

Had a really good experience with San Carlo - Liverpool. All facilities are to a high standard. Loved the atmosphere within the restaurant, which was still very vibrant despite it being a Sunday evening. Food was excellent, though perhaps a touch on the expensive side. Would reccomended.

This San Carlo is by far the best, we have tried many but this one is tops, we compare everywhere we go to here and so far nothing has come close, good service, great staff and the food is just perfect, keep it up guys, good job.

Excellent food and service considering we hadn't booked. My only gripe is that we were sat so close in between two other couples when there were plenty of other free tables in such a large restaurant. Not so good if you want an intimate meal without your fellow diners hearing every word you say. Of course this is to make life easier for the waiting staff. To be be fair I should have said to the front of house host 'a table not too close to other people please. All in all I can see why people like thus place though

We visited on a very busy evening in the week before Christmas. I had lemon sole and my partner had a pasta dish. We were both very happy with our food. It is a large restaurant and it was completely full, but in spite of this both the front of house staff and the kitchen coped very well.

Excellent evening in San Carlo. Six of us had dinner on a very busy Saturday night. The restaurant had an excellent bustling atmosphere. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was prompt and friendly despite being very busy. Would recommend.

I recently visited San Carlo Liverpool where I had the opportunity to sample the highly recommended tomahawk steak, cooked medium rare. Unfortunately, the steak was disappointingly tough and chewy, which led us to leave much of it uneaten. This wasn’t an isolated experience, as the other dishes at the table also failed to impress, leaving the overall quality of the meal feeling underwhelming. The service was efficient, though it seemed the staff were aware of the less-than-satisfactory food, as evidenced by the amount we left on our plates. While we didn’t have the chance to request a replacement due to time constraints, it was clear the team didn’t press the issue further. On a positive note, the restaurant itself offers a pleasant atmosphere with tasteful décor, providing a welcoming setting for diners. Despite the culinary letdown, the ambiance does make it a nice spot to enjoy a meal if you’re looking for a comfortable place to relax. However, given the food experience, I’m hesitant to recommend it to those prioritising quality cuisine.

Everyone thinks I’m a bit boring going to San Carlo regularly but the truth is I’ve never had a bad meal. 100+ visits (easily) and never a bad meal or service.Giovanni is an absolute dream, I actually feel embarrassed by his service level at times as he is that good. 5 stars isn’t enough.

The food was delicious as always but we haven’t visited the Liverpool restaurant before and loved the ambience . The main thing that stood out over other San Carlo visits for us was the impeccable service. The staff were fantastic.

Absolutely stunning little restaurant for a date! It felt very fancy, the decor is absolutely stunning, and the food was delicious! Went there on a date and it was an amazing night out! The starters (breaded mozzarella cheese) were lovely, the mains were absolutely amazing (I am still thinking about the prosciutto and peas tortellini, the sauce was divine), and the deserts (crème brulée and tiramisu) are to die for! Will definitely be returning x

We arrived this evening at 18.30 and we're out by 19.45. The food is always delicious 😋 here but the experience is very poor. The waiter removed my plate while I was still eating my starter. Our mains came with in seconds of the starters being finished. The mains were delicious 😋 we had a fillet steak with whole lobster 🦞 and the halibut. As we had no time between the starter and main we were still full and hadn't digested our starters. So we were unable to finish our mains and unable to enjoy any desert. Our bill came to £200. It was not an enjoyable experience 😕 and so disappointing 😞. This is the second time this has happened 😞 😢

Lovely food weekend of 14th December. Saltimbocca with sharing sides of roast potatoes and green beans. Tempura prawns for starter. Can't fault the food but me and my wife were seated at a table that seemed to be at a crossroad for foot traffic of staff and guests. Our chairs were constantly getting knocked by waiting staff, my chair nearly got swiped from beneath me.... At one point a table of guests was led to their table behind ours and for about 30 seconds while eating our mains we were completely surrounded by peoples bums right next to our faces and food while they were getting seated. This let the experience of my wife's birthday meal down as we felt we couldn't really relax and enjoy the food. The 15% service charge seemed excessive for a table of 2 and after thinking about our experience I wish I asked for it to be removed. 2 starters, 2 mains and sides and 3 drinks each came to over £160 with the service charge added.

Great food, everything we had was delicious 23 have prawns in chilli and tomato sauce to start with a garlic bread and cheese which was unreal then we have seafood spaghetti, penne arrabbiata and a margareta pizza to share, the food is just amazing The only downside is if you gave a table for 2 you are sat extremely close to the tables either side of you and you can hear everyone’s conversations so this was a bit off putting but that was the only downside

Staff were lovely and the food was excellent, we really enjoyed it. Being sat near the door was awful, people stood right at the door smoking then it was all you could smell! Also had to fight our way out as everyone and their mothers were stood near the bar. Our second time coming and the food makes us come back but the atmosphere not so much.

Meal was ok. I had chicken dish. Chicken was a bit chewy and saute potatoes were like roast potatoes and very dry. Packed in like sardines so felt on privacy at time. Waiter spent on time at table and never once made conversation or smiled. But what really got me was when the bill came they slapped on 12 percent service charge for 2 people. I don't mind tipping in fact I always tip favourable. When bill came waited never said anything regards service charge. Nothing advertised on menu or website... So lesson learned he I was about to leave a tip on top of service charge if I hadn't doubled checked bill. Utter greed. Won't be back.

Lovely food and a lovely atmosphere

We’ve been here on 4 occasions and last night chose to bring friends who were in town. The table wasn’t ready and we were told to wait by the already crowded bar, eventually were seated. Had the focaccia to start which was very dry, followed by one of the chicken dishes. Service was slow, we asked three times for the bill, it then took another 20 minutes for someone to come over with a card reader. Everyone was sat very close, it felt like extra tables have been rammed in, it’s a shame, it used to be much nicer.

This place is amazing there food was outstanding the service incredible never been to a restaurant like it! We had these rice balls to start in an incredible sauce just delicious then we had the lobster for our main course and honestly I have tried lobster before but this didn’t even come close to how it was cooked to perfection and it tasted out of this world! Thank you we will be back and will be highly recommend your restaurant xx

I have been to this restaurant on several occasions However last night it was very different The service was abrupt and both our waitresses were sullen and really looked like they didn't want to be there. That set the tone. The fish starter to share was nice but nothing special. We had eaten the week before in another high end italian restaurant in Liverpool city centre and the same starter for a comparable price was far better with more variety and a much larger portion. The bar prices are also extortionate in comparison to other restaurant of similar standard Sadly I think this restaurant is living off its name because it's nothing like it used to be The seating was cramped and the bar area was rammed just not a nice vibe for relaxed dining experience. We will not be returning There are lots of new restaurants that have opened near this venue and unless this restaurant ups it's game it will lose out to it's competition

A lovely venue and such great attentive service. It was very relaxed and a great atmosphere. All the food was delicious and drinks two. We had two courses and two drinks each for £100, which was really reasonable for the service we received. The Montecarlo Pasta was absolutely amazing. We will look out for the other restaurants now too.

Restaurant had a elegant feel to it as soon as you walked in. We’d pre booked a table & only had to wait around 5 minutes or so to be shown to our seats. Nice menu, although I did feel it was overpriced. I enjoyed my pasta, there was nothing wrong with it, but it was just average. The waiters were pleasant enough, although I felt the Italian accents were put on! The restaurant itself was rather noisy, so not somewhere I’d return to if you wanted a quiet date night. Worth a visit, but I’m sure there are nicer restaurants close by for a special night out.

We really liked the look of this restaurant so we booked a table for dinner. We arrived on time and were told our table wasn't ready so we ordered drinks from the bar. After seeing the prices of drinks we realised we were in for an expensive night! We waited 15 minutes or so before being shown to our table. The decor inside is nice but the tables are quite close together so you don't really get any privacy. It is also quite noisy due to so many people being in close proximity. The service was fine but the food was hit & miss. The garlic pizza bread was very herby and the pasta was only average. The steak was excellent quality though and the frites were also really nice. The desserts are very overpriced for what they are. We had ice creams at £8 a go! We wouldn't rush back as there are lots of other nice restaurants in the area.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever experienced in my life. The service was unbelievably poor, with inattentive staff who didn’t seem to care about customer satisfaction at all. I waited for nearly two hours just to receive my order, and even when it arrived, it was cold and not at all as described on the menu. The overall atmosphere was chaotic, with long waits, misplaced orders, and a complete lack of organization. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent dining experience.”

Celebrated my birthday at San Carlo, the atmosphere is lovely, whats even better are the staff, they are polite, friendly and very accomodating. The entrées are lovely, really enjoyed them, should I return, thats all I would order. The pasta's need a little more love, I ordered 4 different types, the lobster, the tuna, the spicy prawns, the cabonara and to be honest none of them hit the spot. The wine list is also great. 👌
