San Carlo in Liverpool

Shocking from start to… well didn’t even get to finish. Arrived 5 mins prior to booking and was not greeted on arrival as it was chaos with lots of people close to the entrance. We were asked to go the bar as the table was not ready. The place was packed- given it was Saturday night but the amount of people at the very small bar area was unmanageable. I attempted to get served at the bar and was pushed in-front of by an older man who seemed over the drinking limit. The waiters served him a whiskey and his son came to help him. I ordered two glasses of wine. When presented with the wine, a waitress came over and said the table was ready. I gestured that I was ready to pay for the wine. It was noisy and she shouted it can go to the table, she shouted to the bar staff too. Feeling rushed, I attempted to grab my bags and drinks to move to the table. The waitress has already walked away to the table. Nobody offered to transport the drinks to the table. As I moved, I was knocked by other person at the rammed bar and dropped the wine, smashing the glass everywhere. Very embarrassing. When I got to the table, I explained and she didn’t offer a resolution, she just looked at me and I felt she wanted to left as soon as possible. When sat, we quickly realised the seating was very tight. The tables are very close together. For a high end restaurant, this was not the atmosphere we were expecting! Feeling extremely uncomfortable with the tables very close to either side of us and the noise level. We decide to abandon the table and leave. We ensured we told staff when leaving, including a waiter and front of house. They looked blankly offering no opinion or help. Absolutely ridiculous from a restaurant with such a huge business name.

The food is always very good and we love coming here, however, after the refit we were excited to get back but every time we have been the staff have been to busy to communicate, have been so rude at times and service has been rushed, just way below the standard we have come to expect from San Carlo, if the food wasn't so good we would not go back so complements are to the chef!!

We tried this restaurant and although we initially tried to book and failed, we managed to get a walk in and sit in the bar area. The staff are extremely helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was very nice and well presented. There was a DJ playing some chill house tunes giving this place a youthful vibe but not too loud to cause an issue for diners wanting to chat. The waiter kept close and topped up our wine from the bottle as he passed by. We also were fortunate enough to meet one of our idols who was dining in there by chance so this made our night very very memorable.

We love San Carlo! Such a nice atmosphere, absolutely amazing food and the staff can’t do enough for you. Staff are always one step ahead. Great night out.

Had dinner late Monday night. We did not book but that was ok. We have been many times. Staff were very friendly. Food is always good. Garlic bread for a starter is the best. Deco is makes it feel intimate. Will definitely be back

We really should have read the reviews on here before making our booking. But we didn't, so here goes: The other reviews highlighting staff manners, and disgusting customer service is all true, go read them and you will have an idea of what this San Carlo business is like. They surely are not discreet about discrimination based on how much you would pay at the restaurant (which is outdated marketing), and yet they had the audacity to tell me they wanted to treat all customers equal. And don't even bother reaching out to their guest relation email because there is no point, customer service is not a thing here. There is not a single truthful response or polite tone I received in the 6 email exchanges I had with them regarding one single booking. Not a single sincere apology, but they have managed to spin quite a believable story on how their system glitched, just at the moment when we were calling them out, instead of just admitting they were at fault.

My son and I stumbled into this place without booking on a Wednesday night. He almost did an about turn when he saw how expensive it looked, but it isn't. Its a classy venue , fitted out to the highest standard and looks really impressive. Staff were on point and offered us a table quickly. The atmosphere for Wednesday evening was buzzing but relaxed. We were served quickly and attentively . Offered drinks immediately. Food arrived promptly and was very good. Overall , a really nice place to visit, not over priced, superb ambience, very good service and well above your average Italien restaurant.

Popped in on the off chance early evening on a Saturday, sat in the bar area and had a lovey bar meal. Great atmosphere and service as always as well as beautiful food too.

My girlfriend and I went to San Carlo for our anniversary. The food was beautiful and the service was excellent. They also expertly followed my request of a cheesecake with an anniversary message in chocolate sauce.

Paid over 200 pounds in Liverpool.The lobster thermidor was tasty but chewy When I mentioned it to the lead waiter he retorted it was fresh .End of conversation and put the card through the pdq. No call back only at end of meal.
