An amazing hidden gem, great food and a wide range of delights. We had a very nice breakfast here, good to visit before going for a walk nearby. Enjoy!

Met friends here and had a bacon sandwich and other had sausage sandwich with coffees. Coffees great but the sandwiches were on unbuttered bread cakes, so dry bread! This is poor for somewhere that says it’s an urban food hall! Just not good enough. Plus the place was absolutely freezing and others were saying the same thing!! Not impressed at all. It used to be so much better??!!

Harriet is an absolute asset to Samuel Valentine's and is always so welcoming and certainly the most polite member of staff there. The food is nice, but the sprigs of greenary for garnish does not justify the price for some of the items on the menu. I understand there is a business to run, but perhaps a coffee deal or lunch deal may attract new and returning customers who are feeling the cost of living. Unfortunately the toilets have become pretty unusable for me, as I do not want to take my young child into a unisex bathroom that is covered in dust, grime and whatever else. I will continue to come and support, but this place has a lot of unused potential

Hoping to get a breakfast but too late so took lunch. I have been several times previously with friends and staff are friendly and service is usually good. however visited recently in the afternoon smd food not available at 2.35pm which I think is poor given closing time is 3.30pm. The food is mostly good quality and the there's a good selection of pork pies to buy and take out. I do wish someone woukd look at the pricing though as a pie to take out is just under £2.00 but to eat in with peas is a staggering £6.50! Therefore it's costing an extra £4.50 for peas & service which is ridiculous! They would sell so much more if it was fairly priced I will call again but just a convenience for coffee. It's such a shame as this place could be so much more. I do think it's overrated. Sadly the unisex toilets are very very dirty and in need of a good scrub. The sink taps need to be fixed too as they are hazardous ,& notices show management are aware of this.

Freshly made pork pies and individual cakes ,amazing range of cheeses ,cooked food ,fresh and delicious ,staff friendly and knowledgeable

Tapas evening and none tapas food calamari was rock hard, hard to cut with a knife and fork, only 4 olive's on the antipasti dish, bread basket small pieces of bruschetta, one small dish of oil/balsamic vinegar for 3 people, strong smell of cooking in the restaurant, came out smelling of food. toilets need complete upgrade slow service

Afternoon tea for mums 90th birthday was a great afternoon just what she wanted and so much selection. Food was fresh and tasty. Ended up taking some cake home with us.

We visit every Sunday, the food is lovely, staff are friendly. The Tapas evenings are well worth a visit. Great selection of cheese, deserts and savouries.

Even though the place was fairly busy and we were a group of 10 we were able to combine tables to sit together. The food is great value, cheerful staff, totally recommended.

Visited for breakfast with my wife and food was excellent matched by good service and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again.

I visit 2 to 3 times a week with my wife for lunch, the food is superb and excellent value for money. All the staff are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble.

Okay, small portions and overpriced to be honest. I'd pay that in Leeds city centre. Food tastes okay though.

We went to the Tapas night. Absolutely fantastic food and wine. We even booked for September. Staff were very attentive and food was reasonably priced and good quality. We loved it

First time here but won’t be last. Staff were lovely. Good choice on the menu - I opted for rarebit and an Americano. Also took away some baked goodies. Really quirky, great to be able to support a local business

The 3 of us enjoyed our lunch and the staff were all friendly. The place itself is comfortable and seating spread out nicely.

Called in on the way home thought they had a good cheese counter what we discovered was below what we had expected. Meat all in sealed plastic. Only 3 tables with customers at lunch time that speaks volumes to me. Spoke to one member of staff was not very helpful at all. I did make a purchase and will not be amking another.

Val runs a lovely café which has a great menu with great food. Val and her staff are welcoming and friendly, helpful and give great service, and everywhere is clean and tidy. The café is very handy for walking in the area especially as it is not far from RSPB, St Aidan's Nature Reserve.

Came recommended by a friend. Arrived early so we had to wait for it to open (9am). Pot of tea and full English breakfast ordered which arrived quite quickly. Tasty enough although I'm not convinced everything was freshly cooked as advertised. Bacon was a little too dry and crispy for me. Everything else was fine. Novel interior with servery for pork products etc. (it is not just a restaurant) A Mini is located in the centre displaying bottles of wine. Staff at all times were friendly and helpful. Will return if in the area again

We popped into The Urban Food Hall for Breakfast last week. The sausages were delicious as was the bacon. Overall, I can recommend this breakfast over many of the other local ones. Only downside: the teapots don't pour very well but how many do ?

Hidden gem, the new lunch menu is to die for!!! Pork pies amazing too, best I’ve had. Thank you to the lovely staff who helped me put a birthday hamper together full of Yorkshire cheeses!! I will be back!!

Please, please clean the place! The toilets are disgraceful, they are dirty and smelly. It’s such a shame as I really like to eat here but I dread to think what the kitchen is like if the toilets are anything to go by.

We had an absolutely fantastic evening. The food was superb and very varied with meat and vegetarian options. The cheeses are locally made and are multiple and excellent. The owner and chef valerie is so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had a lovely evening and will definitely be visiting again.

I recently booked the new Afternoon Tea at Samuel Valentines for a friends Baby Shower. The booking process was very efficient and organised, and the gluten free dietary requirement was catered for meaning that no one missed out on a delicious afternoon tea. Upon arrival the tables were set up with vintage tea cups and plates on our own long table and were greeted by the very friendly and helpful staff who made sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, there was a fantastic selection of sandwiches to share, there was something for everyone, the cooked thick sliced Yorkshire ham and Yorkshire Chutney was my favourite. In most Afternoon Teas, I find you always get too many desserts and not enough savoury, here the balance was perfect. All the cakes were presented lovely, we sampled homemade scones with jam and clotted cream, fruit cake and cheese, decadent chocolate brownie, mini fruit tartlets and fruity raspberry Eton mess. We stayed for at least 2 and a half hours, having afternoon tea, playing games and chatting and we never felt rushed or in the way, the staff were attentive making sure we had enough space and ensuring there was always a steady flow of tea and coffee. I highly recommend a visit here for afternoon tea for a special occasion or just for a treat, we were made to feel very welcome and the food with Yorkshire Provenance and good quality really shone through.

I have visited Samuel Valentines several times now and will continue to go back. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful. The tapas nights and french bistro night is also a must. Fantastic atmosphere, great food, great place.

The staff are friendly. That's the only good thing I have to say. The coffee was bad, the full English one of the worst I've had (if your chef can't even fry an egg, they're in the wrong job) and despite there being more staff than customers, the drinks and food took ages to arrive. Won't be back even though it's only a 2 minute walk from my mum's house.

Decided on off chance to go for a brunch, the downside was there was 1 woman who was taking the food orders, clearing the tables, cleaning the tables, serving at the Delicatessen Counter which meant we had a long wait, but there was at least 4 people in the kitchen.Yes the food was beautiful, but the length of time was very long, the lady who did everything did apologise but less staff in the kitchen might have been better.Loved my food, mushrooms were perfect, slightly worried about the fresh orange, very dark in colour and didn't taste very nice, maybe out of date, left opened longer than it should have been. The price of the brunch was reasonable.

Good coffee and cake in a friendly welcoming barn of a building. Wheelchair friendly. All goods for sale looked good quality.

This seemed like a small snack bar, but in fact served very tasty meals, plus the option to purchase all kinds of meat, bread, preserves, cakes. A very interesting place

I was looking forward to a delicious afternoon tea but instead was presented with a came stand holding plain ham, beef or cream cheese and cucumber sandwiches made with thin sliced bread. ( Sandwich fillings could not be chosen.) I expected a cheesemonger to at least provide a good cheese sandwich.

Avoid at all costs... place is in need of a good clean food served cold on dirty plates!!! Dirty cutlery and dirty tables never again!!!

Called for quick bite to eat & drink. Served by someone who I felt did not really value our custom. Ordered tea for 2 which arrived straight away. However our sandwich & a portion of chips took ages to arrive. The chips were the frozen ones & were hard & tasteless! I noticed that a number of diners had left theirs. Maybe take that tired look & feeling of the place & up your game.

We visit Samuel Valentine/Stott & Cryer quite regularly to buy cheeses and pork pies. We even had several of their celebration pies at our wedding - so we thought we'd give breakfast a go after seeing good reviews on here.

Having called at the local RSPB reserve, we asked there for a recommendation they suggested Valentines. What a find, great service and a good choice of food. We purchased a selection of preserves to take overseas for our relatives so good was the quality of their products . We will be retiring when next in the area.

Had a light lunch of a ploughman’s, I have to say the presentation was second to none... The tastes were fantastic... thank you again for the experience...

I visit regularly and have never had a bad experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The butchers selection is always fantastic and of high quality.

Love coming here. My sister and I tried the limited edition Nutella Cappuccinos- yummy! Pasties, sausage rolls and pies are delicious too. You'll end up buying more to take home with you! We'll be visiting again shortly, I'm sure.

We hadn't visited this deli for a couple of years and whilst passing through we decided to call in for lunch. I remembered the excellent ploughman's lunch enjoyed at a previous visit. My wife, who is celiac, asked the person behind the serving counter what gluten free food was available. 'Nothing' came the reply. NOTHING GLUTEN FREE!! Welcome to the 1920s. We left and found somewhere else for lunch.

We recently visited with friends on a Friday lunchtime. Having parked at Great Preston and walked The Lines Way to Garforth before turning around and walking back to Allerton Bywater, we found this little gem for lunch. The menu was relatively extensive, but most of us chose to eat the 'Soup and Sandwich' deal from the Special Offer menu. The cup of butternut squash soup was delicious and, accompanied by freshly made simple sandwiches, made for a lovely lunch. One of our party had the cheese platter for which he was able to select three cheeses and which looked delicious. We were served 'with a smile' and would definitely return!

Breakfasts were served on cold plates, food was not hot and obviously the bacon and sausage had been overheld.Tiny piece of bacon and very small sausage, only one. Was not asked if we wanted any sauce. Egg was solid yolk.poor value for money and poor everything. Will not be returning.

I paid a visit here with my sister and her boyfriend for lunch this afternoon. We're fairly used to coming here as we already paid a couple of visits before. Anyway, we still had a good old tuck in! My sister had some soup, while her boyfriend and I had some sandwiches. What we also found interesting was all the different cheeses they had on display! To conclude, I recommend this place if you're looking for somewhere decent to go for lunch particularly the pie and peas they serve!

We have been a few times and always have the same experience. Food is great, but the tables are never cleaned, chairs and floor full of food. Buy these people a J cloth please! We would visit more than once a year, but it puts you off when it is so dirty. Shame, because with better service and cleanliness, it could be the best place around here. I used to visit Sam Vals regularly but recently the service seems to be very slow when ordering food. The staff are as pleasant as always but it seems to take way too long for even the basics like a teacake. Also, the food hygiene rating is a 3/5 which could be improved upon. Tables in the café often go uncleaned.

I have been to Samuel Valentine's on few occasions now and the food is always excellent and good value for money. Would be nice to see some WiFi in the cafe through I have asked a couple of times now if they have WiFi only to be told it's 'not working'

I think quirky would be the best way to describe this excellent establishment. Plenty of parking outside. As you walk in the first thing you will probably notice is the old style mini parked in the middle of the floor. This has been striped down and now makes an excellent display for the local wines, beers and ales on sale. Lots of tables with different types of seating to suit every need. There is a superb butchers counter with all the meat locally sourced (although the butchers is not open Sunday). On the far wall is the main deli counter. Here you can buy made on the premises pies, pasties and savouries. There is also a fantastic cheese counter with one of the best arrays of cheese I have ever seen. Many of the cheeses are made by Cryer and Stott the owners.To order food just sit at a table and a very helpful member of staff will attend and take your order. They have an extensive menu at very good prices. I would recommend the Yorkshire breakfast which is excellent value for money. Also the Yorkshire tapas for something a little different. All in all a great place to sample locally produced food.

Went for breakfast (which was locally sourced). Very nice. You could do the same and leave with cheese, pies, pickles, beer or cakes.... Rest of menu looked as though another visit is definitely required.

Decided to pop in here after having driven past it earlier in the week when it was closed. I was not expecting to see such a wonderful selection of cheeses, wines and meats. Decided to stay for lunch and had a posh fish finger sandwich- delicious! This place is a true hidden gem and it was lovely to see that it was busy with families, couples and individuals eating, having a glass of wine or coming in to do some shopping. It has a great atmosphere, the staff were helpful and, in true Yorkshire style, we're welcoming and friendly. Looking forward to coming again soon.

Great selection of cheese with Rhuby Crumble and Yorkshire Cask my favourites. Proper pork pies, they have jelly!! Food is great with something for everyone. Great warm welcome and friendly staff make the experience top notch.

Been here a few times now after swimming at St Aidan's nature reserve. Today was post lunch, pre swim. Lovely coffee, fab cakes. And when I've had breakfasts they are great. Lots of lovely foody goodies to buy too.

3 of us stopped by here for breakfast last week. 2 traditional 'Yorkshire' breakfasts and one toasted tea cake, all were great and plenty on the plates for the cooked breakfast. Drinks were hot. Service was excellent. Would strongly recommend.

We often visit Sam Vals as we refer to it and have been regular customers since it first opened five years ago. The staff are friendly, polite and we always get a warm welcome. The food is well cooked, very good quality and you are never rushed even if you just want a coffee. For the cheese lovers a cheese board is a must, with a huge selection of cheeses to choose from which can be washed down with a very reasonably priced bottle of wine. They also stock a selection of local bottled beers. They have a tapas evening once month which is very popular. Well worth a visit.

What a fantastic outlet, a family background & a family feel..

Went here this morning for breakfast as been recommended by friends. Had the 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks for £11.95. Breakfast promptly but this was due to the fact that everything was undercooked. Sausage and bacon were anaemic looking and had no colour whatsoever. Mushrooms were still hard and the scrambled eggs had a peculiar texture. The shop itself was absolutely freezing, people were eating their meals in coats and fleeces and I had goosebumps on my legs as I was wearing a skirt. Really, really unpleasant. On a side note, ask the price of the meringues if you're thinking of buying one as they are a ridiculously priced £2.50 each!!! Will not go back ever.

Fantastic Café and Deli. Super home baked pies and pastries. Huge pieces of cake, really good coffee and best of all the staff are the friendliest that I have come across in a long time. This place has a really nice feel and the owners have obviously put a lot of effort in to the quality and service.
