Salvi's Northern Quarter in Manchester

I have never left a review never mind a bad one but I booked Salvis NQ for my bfs birthday a week in advance, I received multiple texts confirming the booking in the lead up to this evening - get there 5 mins before our reservation at 6.30pm and the restaurant is closed! Rang the store and could hear the phone ringing but very obviously they were not open as there was a letter hanging out of the door. No notification or communication from Salvis to ask us to go to another location or even to tell us they are not opening today. So annoyed as they’ve got fab reviews for food and I thought it would be a perfect bday place! We went to the corn exchange location to see if we could get a table there but it was pretty full and there was only one staff member on so we decided to not add to his visible stress. Probs won’t try to come again which is a shame because we were looking forward to it!

The wait staff was very attentive and kind. I loved the carbonara, I would recommend to anyone visiting the restaurant.

Great service by Andrea who looks after all customers. Food was fantastic especially pistachio cheesecake!

It's ok if you're just looking to have a quick bite and if you are fine with whatever. Pizza is far better in other places around. Tiramisu tastes very industrial, far from the 'homemade'. It's up to you what you want, if you are looking for a quality meal, better to have it elsewhere.

If you're into Italian food,this is your place!

Very rude servers that did not want to be there. Service was slow on a quiet night and servers were too busy chatting away in a corner. Food was OK but expensive for the experience. Would think twice before going again.

Had a lovely meal,very friendly staff and really enjoyed our pasta and ,drink and coffee to finish off with.would certainly recommend everyone to go here.

AVOID! Ordered a calzone which was stone cold inside. Sent it back. It was returned and was still stone cold in the middle. The waiter explained that a calzone is “hot on the outside and less hot on the inside”. I beg to differ. It was freezing. The meal was poor. They refunded the calzone but having sent it back twice because it wasn’t cooked, I missed the boat, as my husband had finished his meal. Tbh it was a disaster and totally played down by the staff who felt I was to blame for refusing an uncooked pizza. There are so many amazing Italian restaurants in mcr, this is not one of them.

They have the kitchen open after 8:30 p.m. and they treated us very kindly. They have an employee who speaks Spanish. Very delicious Italian food and very attentive and friendly service. Prices similar to others in the city. We have gone again and we have been very well served although the waiter who spoke Spanish was not there. There was a problem with the account and they solved it very well, which is why I gave them 5 stars.

We received a very warm welcome from Andrea who was attentive throughout our meal. We enjoyed starters, mains and puddings with kids-size portions of two pasta dishes for our boys. Food was good and reasonably priced. We’d definitely come back!

Very average. Pizzas were not available. They also ran out of Parma ham. As an alternative, mortadella with gorgonzola was offered. Didn't fit and was generally disappointing, Gorgonzola was stale. Bruschetta were not toasted. Just slice bread with diced tomatoes. Kitchen was rather dingy.

Waitress was impatient and rushed, not nice service.

Finally Italian home cooking in Manchester. Pizzas to make Italians envious, quality raw materials. Tried the first courses, excellent and plentiful, remember to ask for the pasta al dente. Sweets ok. Impeccable service Andrea and Alessio made us feel at home. Highly recommended if you're passing through Manchester. Excellent Italian wine list. Prices are normal for England, a little expensive for Italy, but you pay for quality and rightly so. Well done

Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed. The menu was quite limited, food was very expensive for average quality. My mother in law had the carbonara and it was really thick and congealed and she couldn’t finish eating it. It wasn’t particularly busy but everything took quite a while to come. Service was fine but we wouldn’t return I’m afraid. Bill was £200 for 4 of us for a starter and main with a drink each and a bottle of wine which I would consider pricey.

A hint of Italian cuisine. This is a nice and informal place, where to taste some Italian special dishes. If you go for "Parmigiana di Melanzane" it's better to take a portion as a main. It is worth every bite. Then, you can't skip a "Sicilian Cannolo" as a desert. I must also thank the waiter, Andrea.

So the wife and I have been several times and always been good, good food and nice service, so we popped in on Sunday after a show, we decided to both have a glass of wine with our dinner, £25….for two glasses of wine, I don’t care that they were large, why didn’t the bloke say “ why not have a bottle, no way did I think they would be that price, went to a lovely place on Saturday and it was £5.50 for the same, so basically two plates of pasta one shared dessert and a drink each over £75..never again NEVER AGAIN. Such a shame because we like the place. But no thanks

Delicious meal with friends, really can’t fault it at all and the staff were brilliant. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant too. The fried dough balls and arancini were spot on. Octopus pasta and penne with pistachio pesto were both incredible. Cocktails made perfectly, lovely negroni. Can’t wait to go back!

Yesterday was my first time at the Salvi’s and I will definitely visit this restaurant again. Really nice food and the menu provides enough choice. Service was prompt and very professional. All staff very polite and well dressed. Highly recommended!

Fresh cooked real Italian food. Super sauces. Great atmosphere, what more could you want. Definitely a go to restaurant, we will be back and soon!

We had risotto and spaghetti. Both plates were oversalted. Other than that everything we had was very good. Good selection of wine. Staff is very friendly. Warm atmosphere. A little expensive (bruschetta, risotto, spaghetti vongola, wine bottle, espresso, limoncello - 90 pounds).

Tables very close together, back to back with chairs, can hardly get out to go the toilet. Service was very slow! Not worth the £10 service charge at the end! 25 minutes for drinks to come, then drinks arrived and a further 10 minutes to take food order. Then an hour wait for food, not great when you’ve got a show to watch at the arena really! Food was good when arrived but nothing special.

The food was delicious. We shared our starters (fried dough balls and arancini) and mains (pizza and pasta) and enjoyed everything. The service was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. I'd definitely return and try some more dishes. I'd recommend booking in advance as I'm sure it's popular (though we visited Sunday evening and it was quite quiet)

Found this little place by accident i had a pizza and it was very nice no complaints, service was fine although a little slow, price was just slightly on the high side, they had no beer on draught but other than that it was lovely

No beer on draught, food was underwhelming and came with the wrong ingredients used as substitutes without us being asked prior. Service was also poor with us having to wait 40 minutes for a side of fries. Also made my girlfriend throw up afterwards

The food was unbelievable but the service was pretty poor. Every thing we asked for they seemed to not have - no beer on draught, no steak, no meat arancini. As a veggie I really wanted to try the arancini but only a meat version was on the menu, I asked if there was another but she said no but later she offered my friend a veggie one as an alternative to having no meat one? I then tried to ask to swap my starter and she said I couldn’t because it’d take too long now? Disappointing. We had to wait for our table originally even though we booked, asked multiple times for things like water and the wine. Overall I’d like to reiterate the food was amazing but I would probably not go back to this location but try another.

Not many seafood dishes would like to see a bit more variety the food is not bad

When it comes to Authentic Italian cuisine, look no further than Salvi's NQ. I came across this cozy nice NQ branch on my Birthday, looking for a place that was open late evening, and instantly I got attached to that place. Starting off with Customer Service, Andrea was absolutely fantastic looking after us and our orders, super attentive to our requests and menu itemizations, taking care of the numerous customers with great attention, in addition to being super polite, very professional, respective, and accommodating; 10/10. Food is super delicious, freshly made from scratch, great portions, and very reasonable prices. Dessert wise is mostly freshly made, very delicious and light (if not careful you can have 3 or 4 cheesecakes in a row :)); 10/10. With small nice outdoor seating area for those hot summer evenings, and nicely setup indoor area, this is the number 1 place to go for family gatherings, date nights, and friends' events. P.S. Attached are photos of main dish (Risotto with Prawns and additional Sea Food) and dessert of Pistachio Cheese Cake.

We came here just for a coffee originally on a sunny day in Manchester, and ended up having lunch here. Nice and friendly place! Very traditional.

One of our favourite places in Manchester for a meal, great friendly staff, good food and a good selection of drinks. Fried pizza is my Mrs favourite, other pizzas are good too.

Salvi's is a pasta and pizza restaurant serving decent but not wow food. On a busy valentines they had no heating on and that's not for me.

Don’t waste your money here. Very overpriced. Not even close to Italian food. Bad service.

Not good enough for the cost. Roast potatoes replaced by chips (common problem here) no child options. Limited main courses. Very expensive wines. Sloppy pizza. Five adults two children one teenager. 1 bottle wine 1 beer couple of cokes and jug of water. £306......we came away feeling negative about the experience. And cold.. constant draft from poorly closing entrance door and nobody was bothered to keep it pressed shut. 10% service charge included in the bill. There were other restaurants nearby with queues outside the door not here we arrived at 3pm after booking by phone based on reviews and found the place empty. Didn't appear pleased to see us. A let down for the northern quarter to be frank

We had an incredible evening here celebrating a birthday. Our server was very friendly and helpful, food was delicious and drinks were also great. They went the extra mile when I accidentally left my bags in the restaurant and facilitated a way for me to get them back before I left Manchester. Would highly recommend!

I took my mom to Salvi's when she visited me in Manchester. We were seated quickly, and our waiter Salvatore was very attentive and helpful, answering all of our questions about the food. We ordered 3 courses, followed by coffee. Every meal was absolutely beautiful, full of flavour and just the right portion sizes. I had insalata caprese followed by the risotto sienna (asparagus and prawns) and a tiramisu to finish. My mom had the arancini ragu, the pasta vongole, and the forest fruit pana cota. Our clams and prawns were cooked perfectly and were very tasty! We finished with 2 coffees, which were made exactly how we requested them. We ate our starter and mains within the first hour of being in the restaurant - very quick service! We spent the second hour relaxing, drinking and enjoying our dessert and coffees. We weren't rushed out of the restaurant at the end either, despite taking our time. We felt so relaxed, and the entire experience was perfect. It cost £110 for 2 people to have 3 courses, followed by coffees, and we also shared a bottle of red wine and an additional diet coke. 100% would recommend and will be returning here in the future. Thank you Salvatore for making the evening go so smoothly :)

Had a lovely birthday meal here. Homely decor and good service. Would recommend the ragu arancini and the octopus pasta was cooked to perfection - not too much oil salt and garlic, delicious octopus and sauce. Good price and nice wine as well

Close to tram and bus station Authentic Italian food cooked and served by native Italians. Warm friendly atmosphere Delicious, generous portions. The fritto misto was great! My picture doesn’t do it justice. Pasta vongole served with large pasta tubes, would have been nicer with spaghetti, and would probably be done if asked when ordering. A little expensive considering the additional 10% service charge added to the bill ( as reflective of in some places in Italy) However, in saying that, with the 10% + extra 10% tip as the staff were very friendly and attentive, offering me a window seat at first as I was alone with suitcases and it was pretty full, but moving me before I sat down to a table, they were polite, quick to bring menus and food, yes didn’t pester me leaving me to enjoy and appreciate the good food All in all a great meal and I would definitely eat there again.

If you love authentic Italian cuisine then you must try Salvis. After returning from Italy I have always been on the hunt for great authentic Italian food and Salvis did not disappoint. The food was incredible, the atmosphere was lovely and the service was fantastic. Can't recommend enough!

Fab place, would highly recommend. We had our xmas party here at work and Alessio was so helpful in organising for me. Food was lovely, reasonably priced. Will be returning!

Not particularly bad, but the food and wine are both somewhat disappointing, especially for the price. Most memorable was cheap olive oil with the bread, and what tasted like overcooked dried pasta. Somewhere to avoid if you have just visited Italy or can cook pasta yourself.

We had a good pre concert meal. Service was delightful as always. An enjoyable evening. Thank you.

This Italian Was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a restaurant, the food was bland there was no taste or smell off it and it was served cold , soon as I told the manager about it she started acting very ignorant and was not helpful at all , she kept throwing the bill at us and spoke to us in a terrible manner over all don’t come here if your looking for a nice meal !

Really disappointed with my second visit to Salvi’s, overall the food was good but not great. I originally booked because it was a birthday celebration for a family member, so was expecting to make it slightly more special by putting some candles on the dessert later.. when it comes to finally ordering dessert, the gentleman in charge let’s us know that there is basically no desserts left which was the first disappointment. I then asked him to pack up our food as we were too full already and wanted to take it. I still had half of my pizza, two full portion of fries that had barely been touched and my sister’s barely touched pasta. When he came back he had only packed my pizza and threw the rest of our food away so clearly he hadn’t paid any attention to what we wanted to take!! As you can imagine we were already really annoyed by this point and on top of this, it took us around 20 mins to get their attention for the bill because we were right at the back of the restaurant. Definitely never going back to the one in the northern quarter.

Absolutely loved the aubergine and tomato pasta from here! I can’t stop thinking about it! They kindly swapped salt ricotta for Parmesan and made it a bit spicy like I asked. The man who seated us (bold, beard, tattoos, skinny) was quite rude, didn’t make eye contact with me and looked annoyed to be serving us. The guy who bring out the plates with the white shirt And black pants was really nice and the man at the till gave us free cannelloni, so sweet! Will be coming back, hope they sack the bold guy

Gorgeous food served by gorgeous people. Salvi’s is a chain but this branch gives the impression of an independent Italian restaurant. Italian staff and an adventurous chef who can prepare dishes not on the menu. There are three other branches of Salvi’s in Manchester city centre but this is the best one. Treat yourself for lunch, you hard working Mancunians deserve it. Great for groups or a bit of romance. Lunch or dinner, whenever you go, you will love it.

Super disappointing meal on all levels. Grumpy wait staff. Bread basket which we paid for was four slices of dried out bread, bread sticks in wrappers and a handful of weird biscuits. The gnocchi was a weird shade of green with and over cooked puece of Italian broccoli thrown on top. The dish was absolutely flavorless.

The northern quarters offers so many delights on a daily and Salvi's is one of my favourite drop bys.

Always enjoyed my visit to Salvi's. Had a mixture of pasta, risotto, and pizza on the menu. I ordered the cheese and prosciutto for a starter and a pasta for the main. Is consistent, was as good as I remembered, really enjoyed it. Closed the meal with the last tiramisu which was nice. New location is more spacious and nicely decorated. Would recommend as one of the best Italian places.

The pizza was so fresh. Like the ingredients and all. Really nice.

I was told to choose only between two pastas by a waitress with a ridiculous attitude. So if you really cannot most food listed in the menu or have normal service, maybe it’s better to change the name to Salvi - only a quarter food and service compared to other restaurants.

I bring my family here and it was the best Italian Food I have had outside of Italy. The staff so friendly and the food so tasty. I recommend to every one.

Wonderful Italian's which we were staying near to. Booked online easily and went in a couple of hours later. Really beautiful food and you could tell the ingredients were of high quality also. We all loved our food and had desserts aswel (cheesecake with pistachio and tiramisu) Would love to visit here again next time we are in Manchester.

Overpriced and bit disappointing Looked forward to this dinner, but left underwhelmed. Deducted a star each for: 1. The food was ok, not excellent. The pasta salsiccia was sadly bland and pretty boring. 2. Partly exorbitantly priced, almost £5 for some bread and £26 for some prawns that came with oversalted chips. 3. They ran out of roast potatoes, and decided to replace them with the mentioned chips, without asking. Better would be to come back and ask if we wanted to change our choice. Keep the customer informed, and then happier. Would not have minded so much if dinner for two came in at £60, tops (incl one drink and one glass of wine). But it was most definitely not worth £90. Nice staff, hospitable and friendly.

I am conflicted about this place. The first time here a year ago was lovely. However, this time on 14th of April was completely different. We had a reservation for 8.15pm, however, an hour later we still didn't receive our food, after ordering at 8.30pm. The restaurant appears understaffed, but people who arrived 10 minutes later than me and my company, had received and fully eaten their meals while we still were waiting. I am deeply confused and upset as it was my grandma's birthday celebration, which went quite unfortunately. The photo attached is what we managed to obtain an hour after entering the restaurant.

A wonderful authentic Italian dining experience. Staff are attentive and natively Italian as well, so you can trust they know what they're talking about! Food was wonderful, good variety for everyone and reasonably priced for how high quality it is. Good wine list as well!
