Salvia Restaurant in Kirklees

Passing through Mirfield on the navigation on a Saturday, couldn't be bothered to cook so sought out something a little more upmarket than the pub's burgers. This restaurant is around 3/4 mile out of town and at first sight situated in a less than ideal location, next to an industrial/trading estate. But once through the doors, a warm welcome - the proprietor juggled tables to make room for the three of us (around 1800) on what was otherwise a fully booked evening. We all opted for the salmon special on a bed of spinach, veg or salad side dish included at £19.50. Fish precisely cooked - big tick! The usual range of Italian puddings, and none the worse for that as they were very well done. Went off-piste with the wine, a NZ sauvignon blanc (at £28), in order to get a drier mouthful than the house white. So, around £108, before tip, for the three of us - acceptable for food and wine of this standard. Would return (with a booking!) if in the area again.

Staying in Mirfield for 4 days whilst visiting Yorkshire (Cannon Hall Farm) We booked a table here on our last night. Love Italian food and was not disappointed. Good service. Good food. Nice clean restaurant. Would certainly return if up this way again.

Fabulous venue, fabulous food, fabulous staff, perfect place for a small celebration party. 100% would recommend.

We’ve been coming here for years and just love it. The staff are fabulous (shout out to Bobby who has been welcoming our son with open arms for 11 years!) and can’t do enough. The only reason we don’t come more often is because I’ve been vegan for the last 4 years, although they are always very accommodating and make a beautiful vegan risotto.

Food was unreal, 100% would return. Best pasta dish I have had in a long time. Everybody cleared their plates and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Very well priced too, staff also very attentive and friendly. Gluten free pasta available and many starters gluten free too.

Four friends ate here when staying at the nearby monastery. Initially we were offered a table in a very noisy area, but managed to move somewhere a bit quieter. (Why do restaurants insist on playing loud music, whivh means you can't talk). The food was fine; as a vegetarian, I had a pizza, which was huge and very good. I couldn't finish it! The tiramasu was average.

Great service and food as always. Staff were very friendly. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

First time trying Salvia's & won't be the last! They came highly recommended. We rang through Friday evening for delivery on Saturday at 6.30pm, giving the restaurant plenty of notice as it's a busy little place, so out of respect we definitely suggest ordering the day before for both collection/delivery. We ordered Traditional Bruschetta, Tagliatelle Al Frutti De Mare (Seafood Pasta) & Calzone Kiev. Delivered on time & utterly delicious. Totally recommend this little restaurant, try it, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Salvia's, looking forward to our next meal.

We’ve lived in Mirfield 12 years but this is the first time I’ve visited. I found the food average and the service ok. The toilets were a definite put off for me and on that I’d be reluctant to dine there again.

What a lovelly friendly place, I will defo be going again. It was all three of my kids birthdays and all got a fancy icecream. The food was delicious and well cooked, looked after all our needs.

Such a lovely little Italian, large menu options. They offer gluten free pasta, which was delicious. Quite reasonably priced too! Can’t complain at all

An early evening visit, took advantage of their early bird menu. Comfortable seating area, friendly and efficient service, plenty of menu choice. Food was good, although portions not overly generous, to be expected for early bird. Bottled beer, expensive, would have preferred draft beer being available.

Been before so knew what to expect, the only thing that spoilt it for me was the sauce as it was over the steak whereas I’m sure before it was served separately, if I had have known I would have asked for it separate.Pleasant staff and ambience. Will certainly be going again.

I was having a day out with my daughter and we needed somewhere easy for a meal and this was ideal. The staff were very friendly, the service was excellent and the food delicious. Couldn't have asked for better. The situation is unlikely and when we saw where we had booked initially we thought it looked a bit unique a restaurant, but once inside it was cosy and had a lovely atmosphere

Very impressed from start to finish.Met at the door by a lovely young lady who made us feel very welcome. Despite it been very busy we were shown to our table promptly and then received an excellent service,The food was lovely from the appetisers to the pudding. Staff were very friendly and attentive.If you are looking for a hidden gem that has a lively, casual atmosphere, with great food and a wonderful staff this is the place to go,Enjoy.

4 friends booked an "early bird"(5.30pm to 7pm) for a birthday celebration. We had all been individually before but not together as a group of 4.

Salvias Italian delivered on everything. Welcoming attentive staff, excellent value and choice of food. We All thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We will be returning in the near future. Highly recommended.

What a gem of a place, came highly recommended and we were not disappointed, the staff were friendly and accommodating, the food amazing had lasagne sister had penne stroganoff no complaints could see it being freshly cooked. There was no rush for us to finish in fact they were so friendly we felt as if we could have stayed all evening, the owner Sophie is a true professional and yet so down to earth, if you get the chance pop down you will not be disappointed.

Salvias is our local Italian Restraunt, one we often frequent. The staff are always super friendly and the food is constantly excellent. It is a small and intimate Restraunt, who offer an excellent early bird menu, with extensive choices! We also often have take out food, which they are happy to prepare for us to pick up and enjoy at home. Just one little suggestion that I feel would enhance the whole dining experience, would be some soft background music?( if there is any at the moment I can’t say it’s ever heard) salvias deserves every one of its 5 stars .

After reading some of the reviews in TripAdvisor plus my own experience of visiting Salvia a couple of years ago, I had high expectations. Perhaps it was because it was a Saturday night and it was busy, but it didn't deliver on the food front:

Expensive for what I had, Italian food was reasonable. Perhaps this was because we didn't do the early bird and went for 7.30pm. I wanted sea bass and they hadn't any left, the drinks weren't cheap either.

Friday, 26th July we were looking for somewhere to eat and to be honest this is getting harder as time goes on because quite frankly eating out is becoming a joke. Always check these sites first and go straight to the worst reviews and check the date. Orlando's was our first choice as we hadn't been there in a while but it didn't take us long to decide not to go. Salvia's we hadn't been for maybe 10 years because we didn't enjoy our experience and a quick look at the bad reviews and dates 2016 and beyond decided to give it a go. The welcome was great and we didn't know about the early bird so we gave it a go. The starters, mains and service were excellent but the beers (bottles) were a little on the pricey side, but we didn't go there to drink, so overall 5 stars and will be back.

Not a bad word to say about Salvias, every member of staff from start to finish was so helpful and entertaining. The food, particularly the early bird menu, is delightful and the value for money is great. Sophisticated enough for works do, couples, but entertaining and bubbly enough for friends and family.

Visited Salvia at least 20 times and will continue to go back. Beautiful food, definitely something on the menu to suit everyone. I'd recommend the arrabiatta pasta for main - delicious - and the baked egg starter is to die for. You can choose to have the arrabiatta with chicken and mozzarella or pepperoni and olives - the pepperoni wins for me. So good! Friendly staff, excellent service and lovely decor. One of my favourite restaurants!

Ten of us ate at Salvia's to celebrate my birthday. We were a mix of adults and children and all enjoyed their meals. Service was excellent with just the right amount of time between courses.

We have visited Salvia regularly and are never disappointed. Had yet another fabulous meal, the food is so tasty and the staff are super efficient & friendly. I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough. It’s a small restaurant with bags of atmosphere with chef’s providing high quality food all at affordable prices. Intimate little place with good wines, great food and friendly staff. I had the mushroom starter which was delicious and the Penne Arabiata for main which was yummy all washed down by a crisp Sauvignon Blanc.

First visit here but with friends who had been before. Food was excellent across the board and we were a largeish party. Penne stroganoff was particularly tasty and the beef beautifully cooked.

Visited here on a lively Friday evening. Whilst the restaurant was small and cosy, the atmosphere was really nice and the staff service was really good. Starter of tomato and cheese garlic pizza bread was ok, the fillet steak main was excellent and cooked to perfection and the warm chocolate fudge dessert was as expected, but could have been a bit warmer. Overall, a very good dining experience and would venture there again.

We went here it was our first visit staff very nice I ordered spaghetti Bologna’s it was stone cold . They did warm it up for me but my husband had finished his meal while I had to wait for mine .

Food is always good. The price is very reasonable and staff very friendly and helpful Lovely place and not too big and impersonal

Our family wanted to try eating out on Xmas Day when we had a close family death and none of us wanted to cook...we didn't know if Xmas would feel like Xmas if we ate out - we've been here now for the last 5 Xmas's and can't imagine doing anything different!

Great meal with friends! Friendly atmosphere, not too squeezed in either with the restaurant being quite small. Was a good space and staff were so helpful. Good was tasty and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The risotto was wonderful.

Visiting Mirfield to see a family member, we booked a table at this Italian restaurant. In all honesty, we weren't expecting it to be that good. BUT, this place is great. Small and cosy and very busy with many regular customers. A very friendly and warm welcome is extended to all. Menu is good. The food was excellent. Couldn't fault the service. We would certainly go back and eat there again. My only, only criticism, is that nearly all the staff would troop outside, through the restaurant, to go have a smoke or vape (when it was quiet) and then troop back through the restaurant to resume work. Hence my 4 star rating. I guess the smoking is done with the owners permission!

Excellent food, superb staff an absolutely wonderful experience. Would encourage anyone and everyone to visit! My only negative, sorry Salvia’s, is no lager on draft and your bottles are a touch too expensive. The food is priced well.

What more to say, best Italian food in the district, friendly service. Exceptional Capuchino. Just gets better every time. Stepped out of the comfort zone of Penne stroganoff tonight. Seafood pasta with hint of chilli. Delicious. You must try this friendly warm inviting little Tratorria.

Amazing food & great service!!!! The older Italian gentleman (waiter) was awesome!!! All the dishes were really tasty! The menu has something for everyone. Will be going back & would recommend.

We've been to Salvia's 3 or 4 times over last 12 months, and enjoyed the food. Two of us had pasta and two had the fillet steak. The pasta was tasty but not made from fresh pasta, however the fillets were excellent although I would have prefer a bed of mash as opposed to spinach. The sweets were also good but slightly pricey at £4.25 to £5.95. We went in late afternoon and the restaurant was only half full, so I would have expected the waiting staff to have been more attentive. They forgot the bread and didn't offer to replenish the water or check when we had run out of drinks. Too busy chatting next to the cooking area. Also when we were leaving they were having something to eat in the reception area. Slightly disappointed so probably wouldn't go back.

The restaurant is tucked away in what looks like a mini industrial estate - but stepping indoors takes you into a spotless, stylish interior. The menu offers a choice to suit pretty well all tastes with lots of gluten free options. Meals were beautifully presented and very flavoursome. The seafood linguine was gorgeous - and the profiteroles were superb!

We were squeezed last minute for evening meal and knew we only had table for limited time. We felt welcomed and never rushed.

Booked for a large party of friends. The food was delicious. I had the seafood pasta and a pudding. The staff were helpful and friendly. A great night out. This is my second visit and I’ll definitely be going again.

Ate here a few years ago and was disappointed mainly with the seating. It was very cramped, you had to get the people on the next table to move if you wanted to get out to the toilet.

Visited this restaurant on the occasion of a friends birthday. The staff here are really friendly and efficient. We had a range of food from their menu and specials board...all of which was served and presented well AND was really tasty. I had the fillet steak and friends had the salmon...gorgeous.

We went to Salvia for my daughters birthday tea. We received a warm welcome upon our arrival. We were allowed to choose a table from a couple of free tables. The service was good and all the staff were friendly and courteous. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was ‘buzzy’ even though it was quite early, 6.30pm on a Wednesday. It felt really Christmassy and we had some lovely family time. Definitely recommend.

Never had a bad meal here, only trouble is you cannot here yourself think due to the accoustics of the place so having a conversation is nearly impossible. I hope the re-fit has addressed this problem.

Living locally and wanting good food at cheap prices, there isn't anywhere else to go for pasta or pizza. First time we've been for a while especially after the refurb and it was a good as ever. Tasty pizzas and friendly service. Personally think the menu could do with a little update as it's been the same for 5/6 years but I guess, if it isn't broken don't fix it and we still go...

A cosy atmosphere, friendly service and fabulous food meant a thoroughly enjoyable night for our party of four adults and 2 kids ( aged 10). The kids pizza with a garlic bread side was more than enough for our two hungry boys. Us adults enjoyed overstuffed calzone and wonderfully creamy steak penne. Delicious desserts and excellent house wine contributed to a lovely relaxed evening at a reasonable price. We will be back.

We’ve not been here for over 6 years!! Food was excellent and the service was excellent. Normally eat Italian at Capri in horbury. Food was far more tastier. Will definitely come here again. Better now it has been reburished as well. Price was reasonable and worth every penny.

Went for a family celebration, love the new refit , menu was still as good and food lovely, only thing I would say we weren't made aware of the specials until after we had ordered.

The service was excellent from the moment walked through the door and the food has always been fantastic and fresh.

Visited here on Friday evening with friends. Been here a few times and the food and service are always excellent. I had the salmon and crayfish risotto from the specials menu which was delicious.

The welcome,service and quality of food was very good. We were made to feel special and my next visit may not be far away.

Major birthday celebrated, table for 18 including 2 year old and a 2 week old baby. Nothing was too much.The staff are brilliant here, looked after us so well. We visited this newly refurbished restaurant this weekend and throughly enjoyed our experience. Great friendly staff who were knowledgeable about the food being served. Only one disappointment was the change to the deep fried zuccinni which had always been thin strips in batter and very tasty to round soft slices now which weren't great.

This restaurant always delivers excellent tasty food in an intimate, friendly environment. Love the refit but it is the staff and the food which makes this a 'go to' local restaurant for me. Try the 'early bird', great value for money.

From the outside the location of the restaurant doesn't suggest that you are going to get anything special, that was where I couldn't have been more wrong. The service was excellent and the food was probably the best Italian food I've had, the fillet steak just melted in the mouth and the tiramisu, just Wow.

Great little place with quality food made in front of you in an open kitchen. Homemade bread is delicious and steaks are the best around. Good value early bird menu too. Accommodating and friendly staff can't do enough to help you. Very lucky to have this on our doorstep.

Fantastic meal. Staff so friendly, it was a joy to go. Although the place is quite small i would say cosy, it gives you a feel of 'family' dinners, in Italy' everybody friendly .

The food was wonderful, service is so fast and the staff could not do enough for you. The food is so reasonable. However, because of how physically small the place is, it is difficult to have an intimate romantic meal due to feeling quite overlooked and claustrophobic. As a party venue, it has a very fresh and inviting look and is very clean, and the staff are very accommodating in relation to large orders and splitting bills. There is ample parking as well so don't be afraid of bringing your car.

Came here with my daughter who was visiting.We could not fault the meal - it was great but the negative was the noise. Because it is such a small place the noise is deafening and I felt as if we were shouting to have a conversation. Do not come here for a relaxing laid back meal.

Why 4 out of 5? Well this was a last minute booking after a long work day and it did everything we wanted. Food and service was all really good but not "mind blowing". Starters were good sized and well done. Mains were really nicer (the prawn and monkfish Thermidor in particular). Puds were really nice and the tiramisu was really up there. Will be more than happy to go back.

Visited Salvia on a Monday night on a friends recommendation - I don't normally write reviews but this restaurant definitely deserves one! We arrived at 6:30pm and the restaurant was almost full - did fill up soon after. My wife and I ate 3 courses, we usually don't eat desert but the rest of the food was so good we had to give it a try. I had pate to start followed by an amazing Calzone Kiev and chocolate fudge cake - all excellent. My wife had garlic mushrooms, tagliatelle fruite de mar and creme brulee - again all excellent.Not only was the food excellent but the service was just perfect not too intrusive but not too lax - just right!We will definitely be return and if you fancy giving this restaurant try I'd say book before you go!Rob

Came with my partner a couple of weeks ago and it was fantastic. The service was amazing and the food was perfect. Went expecting to have a main meal and ended up eating 3 courses it was that great! Will be returning 100%

Having eaten in top restaurants around the globe this restaurant is among the best. Odd location but lovely intimate atmosphere with just right amount of space between tables. Really good value. I have had seafood pizzas at twice the price nowhere near as good. Service just right -friendly, efficient without being over the top. Would make it my local favourite if only I lived locally!

After visiting the Miller and Carter and walking out for the appalling service, we went back to our very local and always dependable Salvia. The food is amazing, service is perfect. Nothing is too much trouble. The big guns at Miller and Carter could do with some simple lessons on customer service from you guys.Always spot on. Always perfect. Thank you for being so consistent. Weird little place on a business park but food was amazing. 5 of us ate a 3 course meal and every course was beautiful. Great staff. Gluten free no problem. Definitely go back.

Really tasty food, and pleasant staff. Fast service, however because it is only a small restaurant it only fits minimal people so is not so good for big groups. But the food is brilliant.

Party of 8 for the brothers birthday meal. Quite a small Italian restaurant so you need to book. The food was very nice, we all tried different things for starters,mains and even a dessert. The spicy king prawns were lovely but not very spicy, I then had sirloin steak which was cooked just right with a lovely peppercorn sauce, followed with creme brûlée.The service was very good and the meal came out with just the right amount of time in between.

Small intimate restaurant. Some may say a little cramped. Service very good if a little slow sometimes. Good menu choice well priced. I ordered a pizza which was ok but have to say came with only 5 slices of salami which at £8.95 for the pizza was expensive. Think I'll get my pizzas from carino next time.

Passed it for ages and always wanted to call in. Booked after work and got a table. Great atmosphere. Quaint yet not on top of each other. We had the cold meat starter and then both wanted the Calzone. I changed my mind until the waitress came. So glad a changed back. The pizza were perfect. Great food, great atmosphere = great night. Very reasonably priced too.

Small and friendly restaurant. The food is presented beautifully and tastes amazing everything we ordered was perfectly cooked and I can't think of anything negative. Will definitely go again but you should book as limited space

We came here on Valentines Day for a meal and I just can't believe we haven't been sooner, Its simply fantastic, the service is really friendly and helpful, the chefs were a delight, I had to thank them a the end because the food was beautiful, can't fault it at all, its a very romantic and quant restaurant and I can't wait to go back.Thank you for a great night.

It's been quite a while since our last visit to Salvia and were not disappointed. The fillet steaks and sauces we had were cooked to perfection.Staff, as always, attentive and amiable.Always a pleasure to go, never fails to impress.

My girlfriend and I have visited the restaurant several times in the last 3 months and it never fails to impress. We've tried dishes from the specials and a la crate menu and it's been superb every time. We like dining out a lot and this is a little gem on our doorstep.

Seriously the best rare steak (off the specials wrapped in Parma ham and blue cheese sauce) I've had in a long long time, service great and to be honest, keep this quiet but the price we paid was not reflective of the quality and service received. Excellent.

Another lovely meal here, I can honestly say they cook rare steaks to perfection. I never tire of coming here. The food,the service, the ambience all to be praised.

For our family celebrations we have dined at several Italian restaurants (Aldos and The Flying Pizza to name a couple) and I must say that Salvia is up there with the very best.The staff were a happy and welcoming group who gave our party of 6 adults and 4 young children excellent service throughout our meal.The food was first rate made from quality ingredients and was cooked to order. I strongly recommend Salvia as a place to visit.The prices are good value for money

We came to salvias for a meal on Sunday on the early bird menu. The food was all excellent, the staff obliging and very friendly but not too claustrophobic. The early bird is excellent value and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. It's a shame about the location because although there is parking and it's obvious when you know it's there but you could drive past and totally miss it. Please support this excellent local business.
