Salvanas Restaurant in Barrow-in-Furness

Best Italian in town. I come back to Barrow from Helsinki at least once a year and Salvana’s is always my first meal out. Always top! One thing though guys, you need to take some new pictures of the food for trip advisor because the current ones don’t do justice to the excellent and beautifully presented dishes!

My husband and I dined here celebrating my birthday and the atmosphere was brilliant. We both ate garlic bread to start and we both had the Lasagne and it was delicious! The best we've tasted.. the food was top notch.. staff were very attentive, cheery and very helpful.. definitely coming back 🙂

Customer service was okay. Food was disgusting.. steak tasted off Chicken wings still had hair an feet on them.. avoid at all cost! Also the bill was not cheap

We visited Salvanas with extended family that were here visiting from Newcastle and from Malmo in Sweden. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We had not remembered to inform them that we needed a space for our Grandaughter, a baby. However the staff were very accommodating and took care of the pram and managed to sort us a space to pop the baby in her carry chair. As there was 15 of us the food choices were varied. Myself and my partner had a spicy Vegan pasta dish and it was both delicious and fiery too. As my girlfriend's daughter was feeding the baby and her food had gone cold the staff brought her a fresh meal which was a lovely gesture. Everyone commented on how tasty the food was and how amazing the staff were. It has been a long time since I have eaten at Salvanas as I worked away for many years. I will however be booking Salvanas again and it will be out go to place when family visit. Thankyou to all the staff. I thoroughly recommend Salvanas. Top marks guys!!!

Lovely Restaurant. Nice service. Great food. Does all the basics well. Nice ambiance too. I have visited before and will visit again. It’s one of the few restaurants that are still busy on a Monday night 👍👍

Lovely, friendly and attentive staff. There was no issue with me dining solo (unlike the other awful Italian restaurant in town … starts with F). I had the vegetarian pancake which was very tasty indeed. Will return when I’m next in Barrow on business.

Fit food, crackin’ atmosphere. Spicy polpetti and gnocchi with Taleggio cheese was simply divine. Good friendly service.

A family meal. Heard good reports from others and expected a great meal. Starter of salt and pepper chicken wings, in a soy, chilli, and garlic sauce. Very nice. Main was the Salvanas pizza. Advertised as loaded with chicken, salami, veg, etc. I did expect an authentic Italian. However, the base was a generic Bookers type. Wasn't fully cooked through, and neither was another of the parties. The toppings needed some colour on them, charring maybe. Tasted OK, but that was all. It was very greasy and very overpriced. I judge food in restaurants against how well I would cook it. I cook my own pizzas with homemade base, and I won't be paying for one from here again. There is no sign of Oliver oil. Hydro fats all the way. You can taste it. Also, it is a very enclosed and noisy place. Trying to fit too many tables in such a small place. Two fatties back to back and the place comes to a stand still. I won't be returning.

Always superb food and service and a happy atmosphere. Best to book because it gets very busy. My only negative is why does a great Italian restaurant serve weak American beer that tastes like flavouredwater ( Bud light/Coors ) when Italy does one of best beers available in the world ( Beer Moretti ) ? Other than that I can’t fault the place 👍

Absolutely my most favourite Italian, been going since it first opened, hubby has never been after much coaxing he gave in & we took the grandkids too, they all totally loved it, I've converted them woo hoo, food delicious as always, pictures speak for themselves

I went with a large group of friends and we all enjoyed our food. My pizza was I think the best I've ever had. Will definitely go back.

The waiter welcomed me in but the head waiter was less welcoming, with "I need the table back in 1hr!" she bellowed. Poor first impressions. Spoilt my appetite. The starter arrived 30min later, unexpectedly spicy hot. I was on the clock and ate it hurriedly. Then came the main, again unexpectedly spicy hot. These were disappointing dishes, salty and spicy hot. I finished with time to spare. The head waiter came by and asked whether I'd like coffee. "No thanks. You had wanted this table back within the hour." I replied. It was overpriced. I'd not go back to this place.

We ate here twice whilst staying in Barrow and we were not disappointed. The service was friendly and the food, freshly prepared to order was excellent.

Very pleasant staff, pleasant atmosphere, good food BUT definitely overpriced. A really small portion of one of their pasta dishes (we asked for their advertised half portion as it was lunch time and we didn't want a full meal) cost £10.95 each and a medium glass of house wine was £7.15. Definitely not worth the money. We won't be e going back there again.

Visited last November & returned again 19/08/23 well worth the 270 mile round trip for the weekend to have the best ever calzone I've ever had & I will still do this trip again & again for this calzone great food great staff brilliant owner

On a busy night they tried hard to fit us in and were very quick and attentive with excellent food. The whole team kept an eye out to meet customers needs. No wonder it is busy.

Went for a quick lunch hubby had a risotto which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the scallops with crispy bacon in a Stilton creamy sauce they were absolutely beautiful with a side of rosemary chips. Definitely will be returning soon

We visited with a few friends on a tuesday evening. It was busy, but the service was still good and with a smile. We all had excellent traditional food, a couple of us made changes to the menu, and the waiter said the chef would be happy to do. I had a lovely seafood linguine, and our friends carbonara and bolognaise, all fantastic, and good value. The menu was wide with plenty to choose from. The staff, food and ambience were great, well done! Highly recommend

We were visiting Barrow and wanted somewhere nice for dinner and landed on Salvanas. Overall it is worth a try, it is clearly very popular with locals and the portion size is pretty good. We had to book - tip - it would seem that Saturday night in Barrow is eating out night and most places were fully booked, but by phone not via a website. This is great for business but those that do not do online booking need to come into the 21st century. Salvanas came well recommended and pleasingly was full of locals suggesting that the food is rated locally. Personally I found the restaurant edged on crowded and unpleasant with barely enough room for staff to serve the food. The service was quick and polite with a number of members of staff taking responsibility for the table. What was a bit disappointing was the food quality - it is good portion sizes but a bit basic in the content and far too much liquid in the bowl making sauces very wet. Similar to another review - we found too much salt in the dishes. We are lucky enough to live in an Italian area and can be sure that the food here is not particularly authentic, it has been adapted. That said if you want good portions, good service and reasonable value then this is a good place to come. This is a venue for a lively family dinner, not a romantic night out.

Paid £84 Came to Cumbria just for two days, it looked like very nice place to eat. Unfortunately I found the food extremely salty, asked for replacement but get absolutely same over salted dish back *waiting time to be served aprox 20mins

Saw this restaurant on our first visit to Barrow but didn't venture in. When we came to stay in Barrow recently we gave it a try. Busy even on a Tuesday night, attentive service, nice food and reasonable prices. Would recommend it.

What an amazing experience. Such a busy restaurant and we had not booked but was greeted and had short wait. Service was attentive as all members of staff regularly checked on us including the owner. The wobbly table was sorted with minimal fuss too !...
