Salt Yard in Camden

Just popped in for a drink and a light snack. The place was busy but we managed to sit at the bar and ordered. As per another review, the food was ok but the cheese and charcuterie board was small. Two menu items, two glasses of wine and £50 spent. A bit underwhelming.

Hate leaving bad reviews but it is a weird place. Firstly food quality is good however, the presentation is really poor. Secondly very small portions. As way of example courgette flower dish is £9.50 for one fried flower. We ordered 4 out if curiosity and got two plain white plates with two fried flowers dripping in oil. Totally boring presentation. The duck dish at around £15 was probably half a duck breast sliced thinly. The presentation is the sort of thing you would do at home. Value is always subjective and i have paid loads of money for a dish which i believe was worth it. However, extremely small portions bunged on a plate with no thought as to how it looks, yet charging high prices cant be justified. We had a few work bookings booked which we cancelled. As someone mentioned it isn’t Michelin star !

We had a great time and a delicious dinner with my Spanish group of friends, and Kat's service was wonderful and fun, we will definitely go back!

I had heard very good comments about Salt Yard, so when my family came to visit to London I took them there. The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding, especially thanks to Kat, she made my family feel so welcome! Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful Christmas party at lunchtime yesterday (10th December). We were served by Maria and Romi and they were the best - super helpful, attentive and very welcoming!

For a couple, eating upstairs, this is a wonderful place for special meal and we've really enjoyed eating there and at other restaurants in the Salt Yard group. However, for a group, eating downstairs, it is incredibly noisy & cramped and the service we had wasn't great. All the staff are really friendly & polite, but we had to remind them about drinks which hadn't arrived, and some in our group had no food (apart from the 'bar snacks') for around an hour, while others had received all of their dishes within 30 minutes. I appreciate this is the way that tapas is served - as & when it's ready - but it makes for a really fragmented & disappointing experience as a group. I got the impression that the kitchen were struggling with serving three large groups in one sitting. I will certainly be back for a special meal, but only as a couple and wouldn't recommend for larger groups.

I had dinner at Salt Yard on Goodge Street last night (November 21st), and it was fantastic. The highlight of the meal was the salmon – perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and honestly one of the best I’ve had in a while. What really made the evening special, though, was the service. Our waitress, Wasan, was an absolute star. She was incredibly helpful with her suggestions and genuinely kind throughout the evening, making us feel completely at home. Great food, amazing service Salt Yard is definitely a spot I’d recommend for a cozy and delicious night out.

We’d love to know if the Michelin inspector who recommended Salt Yard actually dined at the same restaurant we visited because, frankly, we’re struggling to understand how this experience was deserving of any accolades. A ROCKY START: THE WRONG MENU The experience began on shaky ground. We were handed a menu upon being seated, only to be informed after ordering that it was the wrong one. It was taken away and replaced with another menu, in which the wine pairing included in the tasting menu of the first was notably absent. THE TASTING MENU: A BROKEN PROMISE We specifically chose Salt Yard for its tasting menu and made our booking with this in mind. Sadly, it wasn’t available, as several of the listed dishes had run out. No comment. When we asked if the kitchen could offer an alternative tasting experience, the waiter insisted that we pick dishes ourselves from the à la carte menu. Isn’t the whole point of a tasting menu to be guided through a curated selection? Where was the professionalism one might expect from a Michelin recommendation? HURRIED AND INTRUSIVE SERVICE The service was rushed from the start. The restaurant closed at 10:00 pm, yet our online booking was accepted at 8:45 pm. Why accept late reservations if there isn’t enough time to provide a relaxed dining experience? It felt more like we were in a high-end fast food outlet: dishes were introduced at lightning speed, with the waiter’s finger hovering uncomfortably close to the food as they were described, and the table was cleared in less than an hour. The unspoken message was clear: "Eat quickly and leave." It also begs the question: who hired the staff? With all due respect, our waiter lacked the professionalism one expects in a Michelin-recommended establishment. THE FOOD: HIGHS AND LOWS There were some bright spots. A few dishes had a pleasant balance of flavours, and the ingredient combinations were well-considered. However, don’t expect anything groundbreaking — the creativity felt fairly standard. Then came the fillet of lamb: tough, chewy, and entirely unfit to be served. We mentioned it to the waiter, but no effort was made to remedy the situation. THE WINE We ordered a 500ml carafe of Malbec blend priced at £35. Was it worth it? I’ll let you decide. When the waiter poured it, some of the wine spilled onto the table. Instead of cleaning it up, they simply placed a plate over the spill... CONCLUSION: AN EXPERIENCE BEST FORGOTTEN We came with high expectations and left with this review. Enough said.

What a find. A perfect meal in a superb venue. The food and wine were divine and Maria was wonderfully attentive and helpful throughout.

What a fantastic find! This tapas restaurant was an absolute treat from start to finish. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the food was so yummy!!! The gambas pil pil was an absolute standout—plump, juicy shrimp swimming in a garlicky, slightly spicy sauce that we couldn’t stop dipping our bread in! The duck breast was another highlight, cooked to perfection! Very tender, flavourful meat that just melted in our mouths. My boyfriend said it tasted like candy lol Maria, our server, was the icing on the cake! She was incredibly attentive, making sure we always had everything we needed and offering spot-on recommendations with a warm smile. Her enthusiasm for the menu was contagious, and it’s clear she genuinely cares. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun, flavourful tapas experience.it was so good we forgot to take pictures!!! We’ll be back for more of those gambas pil pil! 4 stars for food as we didn’t really like patatas bravas this time (we might be too spoilt as we order them everywhere!!) and cuttlefish was a bit too chewy to our liking… :(
