Always great food, good clean and tasty chips and the fish is lovely. They are consistent with the quality of food. There no atmosphere to be had but the staff are lovely, welcoming and pleasant.

BEWARE THE HIDDEN EXTRA! ...I ordered cod, small chips and battered sausage this evening. I noticed it cost more than what I worked it out to be, so I queried it. The server pointed out that there was a 5% surcharge for credit cards. This is in small print on a laminated A4-sized menu inside the shop. This was not in place when I last went there about three weeks ago on 24th April. I expect most people will just pay up without noticing they're being ripped off. KER-CHING!

Quite good quality. Downside is they charge 5% surcharge even if you use a debit card. Not going back.

I, first, visited Salt & Vinegar about 6/7 years and I used to rave about it being the best fish and chip shop in Reading and that was a consistent experience until a couple of years ago after which I vowed not to return. I was given hard chips and fish that didn’t taste at all fresh, quite disparate from my previous visits but I deliberated a bit and decided that I wouldn’t write off the shop based on one visit. I visited again and was met with the same experience. I left it a few years and returned today, the chips were hard and tasteless and the fish matched it. I believe in giving people chances but this is enough and I won’t be returning. I could not finish the food and Iconsider it a waste of £9.75 or however much it cost. That’s disgraceful that you would serve under standard food to anyone. I, certainly would never treat anyone like that! I like being positive and so, I will end on one positive note by giving Salt and Vinegar credit for having the food ready very fast.

Been using this Chippy for years and never been disappointed.

We had been recommended that we should try this place. Just fancied Cod and Chips. Upon arrival the place was empty, but it was the hottest day this year. Cod was fresh, well cooked, full of flavour. Not greasy nor dried out. The chips were hot and were proper chips. Again not greasy, although one or two were a little dried out. But the portion made up for those that were not up to scratch. It has been some time since I have had fish from chippy so the price caught me off guard.

Great value, best in the area from what I’ve experienced. The fish was just what you want from a local chippy, crispy batter and crumbly white fish. A large chips was enough to serve both me and my girlfriend and we only waited about 5 minutes. Perfect chippy! Plenty of parking outside too

Lovely welcoming staff, food is good and reasonably priced, 3 meals with 2 haddock and chips, spam fritter and chips, curry sauce and a savaloy for just under £30. Fish is good, well cooked, moist and chunky. Chips perfect and portion sizes are generous. Thanks guys, we will be back.

Good F&C but like all of these shops these days has become very expensive sadly.

Its hard to get nice fish and chips down about Winnersh, its all beer coated batter and fries not chips. Salt and vinegar was not that, nice bit of cod freshly fried and proper thick chips. They would get 5 stars off me in Glasgow, let alone in Winnersh! When I visited it was cash only - might be worth having a tenner handy in case thats normal for them. Its worth the hassle of getting cash!

Fish was nice unfortunately let down by old dry chips. At £2.50 for the chips you'd expect better.

First time at the Salt & Vinegar, had Fish and Chips. A generous amount of small Chips and the batter on the Fish was crunchy. Will be trying them again.

Very quick service, lots to chose from. Chippies just don't seem as good down south for some reason, especially in Reading but this is a clear exception. Light and crispy batter and amazing fresh chips. Easily the best chippy in Reading

I have used Salt & Vinegar a number of times over the years and the food is always of a good standard. Unfortunately on my most recent visit the portion size was questionable for the money.

Pukka brand chicken and mushroom pies are small, deeply filled yet lush! Other fillings too. Kids' portions available. Good range of sides, sauces, chicken and burgers. All served with a SMILE and good 'old fashioned customer service'. £££ CASH ONLY. No cards. Have to wear a face mask for entry. FREE car parking outside. Can pre-order for collection. No delivery.

We usually end up going back fish and chips. £7.50 for fish and small chips. Nearer to your house and taste is nice.. Not the best I have had. Open till 9 pm only. Sunday and Monday closed..

Small portions for big prices Not very friendly

It's ok. At least the chips weren't greasy but the fish was relatively small for the price (cod & plaice on this order) and was overcooked. Cash only too ... in this day and age is annoying and archaic.

If they keep skinning the 🐟 I will keep going back there as I do prefer battered 🐟 with no skin on 😁 😆 and so does my Grandaughter. So a thumbs-up 👍 to good take out food .

Good system. Go in, order, they give you a number on a little blue plastic fish. You then wait outside and look for your number on the led number board. Works well. Can't be so great if it's raining! Oh yes, fish and chips were pretty good!

Had fish and chips (other half had scampi) from Salt & Vinegar last night, and having tried many other chippies in the Lower Earley/Earley/Woodley area, I can honestly say this is the best! Chips cooked perfectly, flavoursome fish, tasty, crunchy scampi. And the mushy peas were very good too! Do beware, they only accept cash, which would lose them a star were the food not so good! This is our new regular chip shop, even though its a few minutes drive further than others. Well worth it.

Our dependable fish & chip shop in Woodley. I recommend the Haddock, but the Cod looked so good, I'll be having it next time. Be ware, it gets busy at the weekend.

We don't have fish and chips very often, so was looking forward to it. But yesterday at 5.35 pm shop busy, picked up , got home 2 mins away, chips were cold, fish was really greasy and my savaloy was so tough, I had to peel the skin off.

I was in salt&vinegar today I ordered my food and whilst waiting I watched the man drop a chip on the floor then put it in the fryer I confronted him and denied it I got my money back never ever going back there again disgusting should be shut down 30/5/2019
