Absolutely lovely staff, great food and great prices, was for the first time at a chip shop in years and couldn’t have chosen a better place to visit, in my opinion a must visit in Edinburgh if you want to go to have some authentic fish and chips, or a fried mars bar

Uncooked fish and dry chips Shocking that a fish chip shop cant have fish ready to serve. You need to wait 10 mins and still get uncooked food

We had the lamb döner and chicken döner with chips and salad. Staff are also friendly, great to see happy faces around.

Stopped by late in the evening and service was fast and friendly, food was delicious, chips were perfect and even went back the next evening because we enjoyed it so much only to find it closed, sadly! Certainly not the cheapest but at least we got quality for our money. Will come again.

So many restaurants/pub kitchens close early in Edinburgh. We got out for dinner after 9pm and had a hard time finding anywher still serving food. Fortunately, we stopped in at Salt N Vinegar. We had delicious, fresh food: the falafel wrap, side salad, chips with curry sauce & cheese. They did a really nice salad, which far surprassed my expectations. Yummy, fresh, lots of vegetarian options, and open late--a good combo!

After a few hours drinking we wanted food, this was the first place we came across and so glad we did. I had the chicken doner and it was excellent, really good with fresh pita bread, they also gave me some free chips which was a nice touch, will be going back for sure.

After a busy day Christmas shopping we decided to spontaneously pop in for a portion of Fish & Chips. We opted to sit in over takeaway as the weather was wet and miserable, plus there were loads of free tables. So far everything was good, so we took a seat and waited on our food arriving. About 15 minutes later the fish suppers were ready. Hungry and ready to enjoy we were both left disappointed by the small size fish and dry chips for £8.50 - Tried adding some brown sauce and vinegar but that didn’t really help so we ended up just leaving the chips. One positive - the fish was cooked fresh, was piping hot and tasted good but everything else let this place down. They could do with playing a little background music to make it a little more appealing for dinners.

Got a takeaway on Friday night ordered a 10 inch doner went to pick up and was met by the usual very friendly staff. Got pizza home and was not disappointed pipping hot, base and crust really tasty, absolutely loads of doner meat unlike some places. Also got a garlic and chilli dip must say chilli dip very tasty different than other places but in a good way if your visiting you must try. Will defo be back outstanding pizza and I'm very hard to please.

Got a takeaway from here while staying at a nearby hotel. Fish was cooked fresh which meant a wee wait but was more than worth it as was delicious. Guy who served us was so polite and friendly so would recommend a visit here if not looking for an expensive meal out and just want to take back to your hotel room.

The turkish guy working there prepared everything on the spot. Food was very fresh and delicious! Had a very pleasant chat on various topics and he brighten up the day a bit with his good mood :) All the best from the Romanian couple! :))

Pretty low quality as Edinburgh fish and chip shops go, and they seem to use frozen chips rather than fresh potatoes. The food we had wasn't great, taste and texture seemed likeit had beek kept in the warmer for too long before serving. Many better options available

I visit regularly on behalf of someone and the foods and customer service is amazing. Always greeted with a smile and always fresh food, as a vegetarian, there is plenty of choice. Been told that cheeseburger is amazing and great quality for the price! The prices are very good for the quality of the food being served. The shop itself is clean and well kept. Would definitely recommend! 10/10

We were not sure about this 0lace but I have to say we were very pleasantly surprised. I ordered a cheeseburger and could choose what to add to it. I added ketchup, onions, tomatoes and lettuce. Quite simply the best cheeseburger I have ever had. I understand it is home made. Just fantastic. Thanks guys

Family was visiting Edinburgh for 3 days and we were staying closeby. Writing this review since my husband, brother Mel and family went here the first night and the last night we were in the city. Salt N Vinegar opens late, and the owner Cengiz is really nice and very friendly. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and felt very welcomed. It's not a big place as it probably only fits about 10-12 people as you can just walk in and order or takeaway. We had the fish and chips, kebab wraps (chicken, lamb and also a couple of mixed chicken and lamb kebab wraps) during the two times we went here. Try the chips with their garlic sauce! You won't regret it. Would definitely stop by again if we are visiting Edinburgh next time. Great hours (we stopped by around 11pm both times), great food and excellent staff who would likely welcome anyone if they had the time to sit and chat! Highly recommend you try this place out if you are in the area!

Very good food (we tried fish n chips and bacon burger), and very very nice people. We went there 4 times during our week in Edinburgh, and on the last time, we arrived just before closing time and they allowed us to stay there to eat our food, half an hour into the closing time! Thank you guys, thank you so much! Did I already mention that the fish n chips was terrific?!

I went there 3 times in a week (we were on a trip) with my friend and my girlfriend, it's an amazing place for two reasons, one it's the food, we tried fish & chips and the cheeseburger and they were delicious, the second it's the two people working there, they're polite and funny at the same time it was really a pleasure to eat there. Definitely go there if you're in Edinburgh and don't forget to try the chippy sauce!

After paying for my meal I asked for ketchup on the side. Being told that they have no side pots for it I said I’m happy to pay for it in a box (the same that chips come in) expecting around a 5p charge the same as a carrier bag I was told that’d be 50p. Handed over a £2 coin getting no change when I asked for £1 back. Having just finished work looking like a young girl who’d just been drinking my treatment cane across very different to those who were before and after me. Definitely will not be visiting again.

I had lunch at Salt “n” Vinegar yesterday and it was soooo good. I had the Doner Kebab and I would highly recommend it. Genghis, the owner’s cousin was working behind the counter and he was so nice. Great place and I would highly recommend it.

We ate at this restaurant both nights of our stay because the food was so good and so varied, and because the staff is fantastic. They're cheerful, friendly, and make you feel right at home. The portions are marvelous (we were all stuffed at the end of the night), and all of the food that we tried (ranging from kebabs to pizzas to Scottish pies) were top notch. Highly recommend a meal trip here!

After a long walk around Edinburgh, including the Potter Trail, we were looking for a fish and chip place. Salt N Vinegar showed good reviews so we ventured over. It's a small place for eating in, but I suspect most of the business is take-away. We had the fish and chips as well as the chicken and lamb mix kebob. Both were plentiful and tasty. Super friendly owner - had a chat about archaeology...

We had a tasty, bigger than expected fish n chips. The price was right. Very friendly guy taking our order. The rest of the menu and the kebabs looked great, will come back again.

Immaculate conditions upheld, close to my work, incredibly friendly staff. I recommend this place to friends, colleagues and customers. homemade chilli sauce, there is few tables n chairs which is ideal for me to sit down and enjoy too. I can tell they clearly change the oil each day unlike some other places around too. I feel it was difficult to get good quality chips late at night until I came here. To be open late and get great chips is amazing. I’ve spent a lot of time in Turkey and I can quite easily say the food here is of the same standard of brilliance I have had there.

We ordered a pizza here and the toppings were sparse we had to search for most of them. Base wasn’t fresh. I thought it was absolutely rubbish and a waste of money.

Loved it, fresh been the word, Gengiz, truly looked after us, in a week's visit we ate there 4 times. I felt the food was really cared for and will definitely visit again.

I stopped in for lunch today and ordered Fish & Chips. The owner was friendly and kind, and cooked the food fresh just after I ordered. It was delicious. The portions were huge, especially for such a reasonable price. I'll be going back again, and would recommend it. There's also a deep fried Mars Bar on the menu that I might need to try.

Nice and the best food in Edinburgh if same one is hangre then is the best place ,I came almost every day for dinner

This is a clean, freshly lit and friendly restaurant by the Usher Hall, Edinburgh. You receive a warm welcome and delicious food. My favourite meal is the mixed chicken/donor kebab served with fresh salad, separately if you wish. I look forward to trying their pizzas having seen a customer tuck in to one this evening. The fish and chips are also great - fresh fish and crisp chips. This is a wee gem you should not walk past.

I went n after a long day at work and ordered a Chicken Shish Kebab. the owner suggested I had a chicken Doner, but I declined having had a bad experience with chicken doner elsewhere in London. The owner then went into detail about his Chicken doner, whilst preparing my chicken shish. He even went as far as providing a sample of the chicken doner which i reluctantly tasted, but I am so glad i did taste it. It was AMAZING!!!!!! As we chated more, we realised we had lived not far from one another, many years ago. The owner is clearly passionate about his kebabs and it showed. The food was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my food from here it was fresh and cooked to perfection. I am back in Edinburgh in August and will be revisiting this place for sure!

We stumbled on this place as we walked from our hotel toward the castle. We had been looking forward to arriving in Scotland and tasting the legendary fish-n-chips. The owner was so friendly, and excited to be the first we would try. He loaded us a platter of perfectly golden, crisp fish and a heap of fries. Honestly, he set the standard and no place has managed to top it. It was an amazing beginning to our visit to Scotland and England. Thanks!

Came in after I was recommended from a friend and it definitely lived up to expectations. The staff are friendly and very polite. They took my gluten allergy into consideration and served me an amazing plate. Would definitely come back!

We found this via Tripadvisor close to our hotel . This is a fast food restaurant , very clean and nice staff . You order , you pay and wait .. We paid for 2 big portions fish and chips and one water around 10£ . If you want a fish and chips I recommend this place .

Working nights so popped in for food , great kettle place food freshly cooked while you wait , staff very friendly couldn’t be more helpful .

Big variety that are all done just right! I've seen other places such as kebab shops trying to do pizza or fish and chips trying to do kebab as well but not be that good, however this place is AWESOME. We all had a variety of dishes and they were all very good. I personally had a pizza and my wife fish and chips and ours friend's different kebabs each. We all thought each dish were well proportioned, priced and most importantly very tasty. The pizza was so nice and the pastry was different to anything I had beffore. It didn't feel oily with fat dripping off it yet it was very tasty. The staff are friendly and helpful, seemed like they couldn't do enough for anyone walking it. The premises were very clean.The two down sides are, one it's not local to me and the other is it's not a very big premise so can't accommodate large groups sitting together but the food more than makes up for that

Took the family out to Edinburgh for the day, and stopped in here on the way home. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, the food was fresh, tasty, and well priced. We’ll definitely be back if we’re back in this direction- well done guys
