The burgers and Fries were absolutely amazing. The chicken was juicy and crispy. Bread was soft. Perfect amount of sauce. Fries were great!

So many beers...so many great beers. The selection here at Salt Horse is pretty unmatched in the area. There are other establishments that are similar but this place easily has the most to offer. The gentleman behind the bar was friendly and knowledgeable. I have heard great things about the food here but we did not eat while visiting this time. If I do return to Edinburgh in the future, Salt Horse will be at the top of my list.

After a full 24 hours of traveling we were looking for someplace in Edinburgh to grab a relaxed dinner and Salt Horse was fantastic! Relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious. Would visit again!

Quality ingredients served by people who care and like what they do. In my humble opinion the best chips/fries in all of Edinburgh.

If you are looking for Belgian beer in Edinburgh this is your place. Pretty good selection of bottles and competitive prices. Lovely well informed staff. The burgers are delicious. They have a very thin high walled garden with a very loud extractor! Not great for a quiet conversation.

Stumbled upon this place and loved everything — amazing beer on tap, delicious food, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The Bloody Mary Pickled Eggs are a must! Cheers

Love Salt Horse's delicious burgers and craft beers! The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is cosy. They're pretty packed usually so would highly recommend to book a table.

We were recommended this place and weren't disappointed. There was a huge range of beers and the server was happy to make suggestions and was knowledgeable about them all. We also had burger and dirty fries and both were excellent.

My partner and I came here to chill out for the afternoon, and had a lovely time. The staff were friendly, so enthusiastic about all the drinks they had to offer, and happy to help selecting something. They had a great no and low alcohol section too, with lots of beers I've not tried before. Thanks for the great time!

A great choice of craft beers from pale ales to stouts and sours. The burgers are fantastic and thoroughly recommended. Getting much busier these days so book a table if you want to guarantee getting a table and food. One little moan...they seem to reserve the table at the back for staff but it was completely unused during our last visit despite us having to wait an hour for a table. Seems a bit shortsighted to waste a table like this when there's paying customers that could be using it and the staff could have space elsewhere.

17 stayed here not long ago. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff were friendly and efficient 10/10 the reception were great and their attention excellent. All in all we had an exellent time in Edinburgh and this hotel played a major part enjoying our stay 10/10.

Really had a great time in this pub which has 14 nozzles on its tap! Nice diversity of beer with West Coast, black IPA, sour, dry stout, one without alcohol and access to the fridge which is filled with beautiful bottles and cans 🍻 The burgers are excellent and the fries exceptional: crispy as can be! (And I'm very, very hard to please in this regard) Fast and efficient service. Good music, rock obviously.🤘 If I lived in Edinburgh this would quickly become one of my favorite pubs! 🤪

Really good take off craft beers and friendly staff.

The rather small space inside the bar is adding to its charm. The sir who worked at the bar explained the different drinks they serve in great detail! The food was greatly seasoned which might not be for everyone but in my opinion it was perfect.

Absolutely loved coming here for a nightcap. The bartender was very helpful and friendly and let us try several different beers. The atmosphere is really cozy, very intimate, you feel hidden from the world in the best way possible, but it's very lively all the same. Cannot recommend highly enough if you want to have a low key drink.

It is so nice to finally find a good burger place in Edinburgh that is not only amazing but also a really good price for the quality of food. It's definitely worth going. This is now my go-to burgher place for Edinburgh.

Popped in for a casual pint and found a really relaxing pub with knowledgeable staff and an interesting line up of craft beers, both on tap and in cans. Didn't try the food but I couldn't resist a cheeky peep at the table next to me when their food arrived and it looked great. There is a wonderfully secluded beer garden here for when the weather improves too. Sitting just off the Royal Mile, it's the perfect bar to escape to to get away from the throngs of tourists.

Absolutely delicious food and a great selection of beers. Very pleasant staff, quick to help us and very knowledgeable. The atmosphere was relaxed, so we had a nice dinner at the Salt Horse.

I came in having missed lunch and was happy to get a delicious burger and better than average fries (I like mine well cooked) and a fresh beer pretty quickly

What a decent place, for me personally it was like being in bruge, great options on crafts and the amount of bottles WOW. Loved it. Great atmosphere, music and although I didn’t have the food, it looked good. People were lovely, friendly and nice to talk to.

What a cute cozy little bar/restaurant! Loved the laidback vibe here, good music. Home made fries and mayonaise I think, tasted great, but the burger wasn’t the best we’ve had.

Such a sweet spot, I try to go each time I’m in Edinburgh. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food & drinks. We went for a bite to start NYE and the vibes were lovely. Get the ‘Sabzi’ big chips. I’m still thinking about them!

Such a great little find on our night out in town. The friendly atmosphere, great food and it genuinely felt like I was at a friend’s having food, a chat and a night out all in the one place. The Bowhouse Burger was great quality and Cajun fries perfect. The resident dog was the clincher for me. I’ll be visiting again!

Nice wee place, extensive beer selection. Had a Bowhouse Burger which didn't look much but was immensely tasty relying on the quality of the beef rather than unnecessary accoutrements.

What a great place. The beer lineup is excellent, 10ish taps of good craft beer, mix of styles. Fridges full of the stuff. The food was outstanding, chicken burger hit the spot and the chips were beautiful. Also try the pickled eggs, they might not be for everyone but you won't regret it, they're great. Incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will 100% be back.

The bar with by far the largest selection of beer. Also German and Belgian brands. I haven't found a bar in Edinburgh that has this range. Perfect!! One disadvantage: when it is cold you have to be able to tolerate the door being open for a long time and it then becoming 2 degrees colder.

Quiet atmosphere off the Royal Mille. Great menu of local craft beers. Casual food with many vegetarian options and well prepared.

Absolutely delightful and cool venue just off the main street in Edinburgh. The food was delicious, and the range of craft beers available to drink in or take with you are excellent and reasonably priced. Staff were very helpful, friendly, and ready to provide recommendations as needed.

Initially rated 5 years ago but made my second visit last night. Great selection of local and further afield beers on tap, staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Definitely book if you’re planning on going as I saw people get turned away. Food was on the higher end of what you’d expect pricewise, but the quality matched it

Not tried the food yet but the staff are ridiculously rude to the point we didn’t feel welcomed. Chatting at the bar when the place was empty and when we asked to be served she didn’t like that and was rude and passive aggressively slamming things on our table 😅😂 we’re chuckling about it because it’s beyond rude, not sure what her name is but girl with red curly hair, never experienced anything like it - don’t bother! Getting paid to sit on a barrel looking moody giving dirty looks at customers, not sure how you get a job on customer service like that 😬 Edit: food was amazing! Just don’t go if a certain worker is on 😂

To caveat my experience, I’ve only ever come to buy takeaway beers from the fridge and not stayed for food yet. First visit was great, this most recent one the fridges looked to be lacking a little based on expectations. Swings and roundabouts, I’m sure I’ll stop in again soon.

Great pub and bottle shop! Awesome selection of taps which is rotated often. If nothing interesting jumps out at you, they have a huge fridge section of bottles to choose from! Staff is friendly and helpful. We come here often. It can get crowded at times.

I have been to this restaurant before and I still fully recommend it. The burger was a bit salty but still very good. The service was fantastic and the bartenders are really friendly. You should visit it while in Edinburgh!

Callum is the best bartender! He gave such good recommendations, and was friendly and kind the whole time. The loaded fries are fantastic, and the beer selection is even better. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Edinburgh ❤️

Always loved this place, super chilled, and a great selection of beers. With a great wee bottle shop next door for taking away, or to be consumed in the bar too. Just outwith the main madness of Edinburgh, with that it's often easier to get a table, which is always a welcome sight. The staff are always super friendly and knowledgeable of their great beer selection. A selection of wines and spirits and soft drinks too, so they basically cater for everyone, really. A must visit if you love good beers. I've never eaten here, so I can't rate the food, but I suspect it's very good also.

as an admitted beer snob I couldn't have been more comfortable with the style and service of Salt Horse. Each visit we had a different bartender and they were all knowledgeable and quite happy to chat. Most surprising was the quality of NA beers they carried and recommended

If you want a burger or beer, just go. Burgers don't look amazing, they just *are* amazing. The beer selection - on tap - is small but meticulously curated. If you need more selection, their bottle shop appears to be huge.

Walked here to get lunch after looking at their online menu. No one under 18 can order food here. Don't even offer to-go food bc we had 1 teenager with us. Should be clearly mentioned online so you don't waste your time looking for a meal.

Goats on tap! 😀 Took the kid for a burger for lunch today after a wet walk, "this burger is a 9.5 out of 10" Update (because Google insisted): It's still an awesome bar and bottle shop. Update 2: Still an awesome little bar. Needs a crossover with Holy Goat to be on tap though, a Salty Goat, if you will 🐐 Update 3 just because: the beer is awesome the staff are brilliant and friendly. Great place to meet up with friends or pop in for a quiet beer after a dog walk. Update 4, Google keeps asking. Still an awesome bar. Update 5. Google needs to get a grip. The burgers are awesome. Maybe the best in edinburgh. So an actual update..... Goat crossovers on tap!!!! Seriously, don't visit here, I want to keep being able to get a table. Bowhouee burger benefits from a second patty. But is still the best burger in town with or without. Actual update 2. No goats on tap but Taylor found some hidden away. And more for takeaway later. It's still the best burger in Edinburgh. The cauli-bombs with hit sauce are pretty damn good too!

Being a long time lover of Asian food, being in Edinburgh meant I had a myriad of options but with choice blindness being a cruel mistress and the salt horse being a stones throw from my hotel I decided for a burger whilst I researched the rest of my weeks meal options. I was extremely pleased with my decision, the place itself was quant and rustic and the staff truly seemed to enjoy being there. The food was superb, had to have been thrice cooked chips to be this crispy and the pulled pork and apple slaw on a burger is not a combo I would have leaned toward but well done salt horse team. If you are around and want a real burger in a real (albeit rather small) pub then look no further. If and when I am next in Edinburgh I will be popping in again, that's for sure!

Salt Horse beer shop has a great selection of beer ontap and a ton of bottles. With their bottle shop next door, the selection is endless! We had a couple beers onsite and took a couple to go. If you're a craft beer drinker, you need to go to Salt Horse!

Cosy bar just off Cowgate, comfortable and wooden with candles, nice gentle music in the background, very friendly and helpful staff, dog friendly, delicious burgers, and a fantastic selection of beers, especially if you enjoy the Belgian Trappists!

The brews are good. I recommend the Newbarns Pilsner, Newbarns Pale Ale, and especially the Kernel Bitter Simonds 1880 Extra Special Bitter which was extra special. Very personable bar keep and server.
