Salt and vinegar in Coventry

WARNING. BE very careful if you have diet restrictions. I ordered a VEGAN chicken and mushroom pie and was given a potato,CHEESE and onion pie instead without asking me. I only noticed once I got into it and it didn't taste right. Thankfully I don't have a dairy allergy. I spoke to a member of staff about it and was then told they didn't have the other pie but they didn't seem bothered. I didn't want to cause a fuss and I didn't have much time and I was hungry so just took out the rest of the filling, ate the pastry and chips and left. I won't be going back here.

Just happened to stumble across S and V while on the way to Subway, thankfully we chose to eat here after looking at the menu serving freshly cooked Curries. The Chicken Jalfrezi with rice was awesome! Loved it. I love the fact that this independent cafe is making the effort to serve fresh food from scratch surrounded by chain restaurants serving the same food in every town and city in the UK. It's a shame we aren't local so we can support these business owners to encourage further independent businesses to set up in shopping centres like here. Forgot Maccies, pause the Subway and stick the chopsticks back in the door - Select the food cooked from scratch made with effort for us to enjoy. It sounds like not everyone in Coventry appreciates what they have here or understands what it takes to hold your own in shopping centres built for franchises. A little more thought and respect and you will be rewarded.

Just had one of the nicest and clean tasting breakfasts in a very long time staff and owner were amazing and friendly food was piping hot and beautiful hard to find a decent breakfast spot but think I fount my new spot

Love this restaurant come here all the time great food and hot and cold drinks s great the Manager and staff have great hospitality bring your food and drinks to the table always polite and with a smile always there to help you If you want some share to eat and drink this is the place to be I would recommend. Not authentic Indian Kitchen. Ordered Chicken tikka roll, was served cold and bland . Indian cuisine is known for spicy taste but this turned out to be bland and no Indian flavour at all. Waste of money. Not recommended at all.

I always have a super tasty curry and onion bahji...served with a ☺ smile, new furniture offers a selection ofolaces to suit group sizes. Thoroughly recommend this place.

Food was not hot rice was hard and cold curry was cold and lacking in taste roti was pre packaged and nothing tasted authentic, I left the food and advise people to stick with fish and chips.

Where to begin with this place. They start by false advertising their pricing with a board at the entrance, the woman at the till claimed it was a printing error, but has had no issues changing it as it’s been those price for a while & that board has never moved. When you get to the till, the con begins. Every item is actually higher in price, they even advertise drinks as being refillable when it’s actually just a bottle. We then ordered a few items as we thought we’d give it a chance. We ordered regular chips as there were 3 of us and just wanted it on the side to share between us. However, to our shock came out a tiny portion which was more suitable for 1 person, I even asked the waiter if that was a joke. I then asked to speak to the manager at the till & according to her that’s their usual portion & they’ve never had 1 complaint regarding their food, yet Google begs to differ. We also had someone order an egg batch, which came with just 1 egg & a large batch which ended up mostly being empty dry bread from the lack of filling. The food was lukewarm & most likely not cooked fresh. From the beginning they started with false advertising & clearly had no issue in not telling us, or at least the server before her, that’s how much you get. I can now see why this place has so many 1 star reviews. Do yourself a favour and go to McDonalds as it’s better value & you actually feel like you’ve had a meal for the amount you pay.

Hearty and warming Indian food. Recommend the Chilli Paneer and Masala Chips, large portions and at a reasonable price. One recommendation, define the branding of the restaurant as there are two main cuisines and it was a bit confusing whether the Indian food is sold at the same venue.

Good selection of food where our whole family would all be happy with so many selections on the menu as we have fussy kids 🤣🤣 and the misses hopefully she doesnt see this

Came close to Christmas and was blown away by the brilliant food, ordered the chicken tikka wrap and I am so happy with it. Brilliant flavour and brilliant taste!

I ordered Samosa Chat. It was lovely reasonable price. Served in reasonable amount of time. 😊

This restaurant is amazing, and the best Indian food here in Coventry I have tasted so far. Everything here is cooked so fresh. I have tried their food from wraps to curry pot and it is all so delicious. The staff there is very kind and generous feels good to be served in a really pleasant atmosphere.

Paid for an 8 item breakfast and got 6. Woudlnt let me swap my egg and mushroom , poor attitude from the manager. A smile wouldn’t ladies.

This place is very poor, the chip batch I had ordered, let put it this way seems like just a batch due to the lack of chips. The batch was dry and crusty and the chips were like they had been made the night before or refried as they were extremely crispy and dry. I asked for them to change it and management declined it. Will never go back to this place again! AVOID!

Just gonna say that I have found a fish & chip place where I can have Gluten free fish & chips & actually eat in town. The food is amazing the service & the staff are so helpful & I would recommend any Celiac person to eat there. Also they have GF vinegar too.

Clearly judging by all the owners comments the customers are the problem. Because each time you’ve been accused of being rude.. you deny it. And if you’re going to comment on other peoples feedback stating they explain the truth I suggest you do so yourself. Too professional to laugh, but no grown up enough to take feedback. To label someone as aggressive is always the easier option than admitting you were rude.

If I could give no stars I would!! I visited salt and vinegar today in west orchards. The food came out stone cold, so I went back up to ask for a replacement. To be told there was nothing wrong with the food, that was quite an awkward response to get from a member of staff, who actually turned out to be the manager ( Rita) I asked for a refund to which she also refused. So I’ve paid for some food that I didn’t get and then was refused a refund. The way she spoke to me was so degrading especially when I remained calm the whole time. She was raising her voice laughing that she serves food all day everyday and doesn’t get a complaint. When I said you can’t refuse me a refund? She laughed and said oh yes I can. The fact you have people like that working there is a disgrace and the fact she thinks she can speak to customers that way… well that says a lot. Lesson learnt, clearly won’t be returning but do yourself a favour and don’t make the mistake of going there.

Food was lovely, had an issue when the food was brought out but was quickly rectified. I would definitely recommend this place, it does amazing Indian food too.

I have had food in many restaurants over coventry and even in west orchids. This is first time I am reviewing because of the worst food preparation. Portion and price of the food is 0. As an Indian i don't look up racism in the whole UK. But here in Salt and vinegar providing services and food with worst behaviour. Kept out the left over food. I suggest no one to try even there.

We ordered Samosa Chat, Pau Bhaji and Aloo Tikki Chat. Aloo tikkis were quite stale, horrible tasting. The other two were quite decent. What came as a shock was the customer service. I have never seen staff and manager so adamant and reluctant, they refused to accept it. The manager came across as very rude, I used to work in the same industry during my uni days, but this kind of service is appalling. Won't be going there again and will be spreading the word across to family and friends across Coventry.

Im sorry but i paid for small chips and got genuinely 15 chips on a plate, not even a small child would be any sort of fullness from 15 chips. thats madness. 3.50 by the way. good employees and atmosphere though.

Myself and my friend are away up here at the moment, after doing a little shopping we dropped into Salt & Vinegar. Very budget friendly, 2 x Generous sized Jacket potatoes with thick cut bacon bits and large portion of cheese with a side salad. Ordered the above and within 10 minutes was served and bought to our table. 2 bottle of Dr.Pepper to help it go down. £15 for two meals!!! Thank you ❤️

Once ordered and paid we realised we had a bad experience last time we was in Coventry We ordered and paid and asked twice for certain if coffee was decaff the first time the answer was yes I think so followed by yes sugar is here. I had a jacket potato with cheese and bacon bits. The potato was cold so I sent it back about 15 minutes later it came back exactly the same not even re arranged on the plate . We will deffonatly remember this next time and not forget like we did this time. Also if you can't speak and understand English then shouldn't be working in a English customer faced buisness.

Ordered the vegetarian breakfast and beans on toast (specifically, without butter). Received beans on toast with butter, which was disappointing, but not as disappointing as being provided a non-vegetarian breakfast, then being accused of not having ordered a vegetarian breakfast, and then being told if we wanted a vegetarian breakfast we would have to pay the entire £6.50 for a new one. In any other establishment, or one which desires to maintain returning customers, a new breakfast would have been provided - we were not even fussy enough to have requested a swap of the entire breakfast, but simply the exchange of the bacon and sausages for veggie sausages! This was, of course, refused. I have no doubt having read some of the other comments on this page that the owner will either accuse me of lying or make some claim that we should have spoken out more - the latter we already did. In regards to the food quality, the beans had obviously been left out a while, but this wasn't a real problem. If you're desperate, perhaps give this place a go. Make sure, however, that you go over what you ordered a few times with the waitress just so you can't be accused of having not ordered what you did.

The chole bhature I had was perfectly spiced chole paired with bhature. An authentic and satisfying dish that hit all the right notes.

Currently working inside west orchards and thought I’d try these guys for lunch. The food is incredible I had the curry & naan and it was demolished. Loved every bit. Worth every penny and great value for money for a high quality lunch. Definitely would highly recommend

Really disappointed. Ordered a breakfast munch box and within my pot of beans was an uncooked/raw chip. Unfortunately this contamination put me off the rest of my food and I was unable to finish the box. On top of this the bacon had been sat for some time, and was clearly old. Salad on the battered box was very soggy and wet, causing the rest of the items within the box to then be soggy. Staff were rude at the tills. Only one member of staff knew what she was doing, staff advised us they dont do a breakfast box after it clearly being on the menu, perhoas some training in customer service and being polite is needed. Both items ordered included a drink, only drink option available was coke zero or Pepsi, again quite poor. EDIT- We didnt come back to the til because thw two people we spoke to before yourself were rude. There was a raw chip in my beans. Do not call me a liar. We spoke to two people before yourself who were rude, and advised that there was no brekafast box. The drink option given was coke zero and pepsi.

Finally found a place that does authentic Indian food. Came here other day to try the butter chicken and it was awesome 🤩. Today I am trying the masala fish I am impress with Rita and service she has provided me. I will be definitely coming back to try all of the Indian dishes.

You can actually smell the spices used in the food. I decided to try it.. OMG we had the buttered chicken and rice with nan bread so delicious and yummy. Will return again. Excellent food and atmosphere.

Coming all the way from India and craving for homely food, S&V has made me feel at home. Chole bhature, daal makhani and masala tea! Best combo ever! Warm hospitality, great taste, good quantity per person and great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone who comes here!

We had good experience in this shop up to previous visit, But today they changed their serving pattern. It's very disappointed.

A breakfast is defined by the quality of the sausage. This is was not very good quality - pale and immensely fatty. It had clearly been deep fried, as had the mushrooms. The plate was swimming in grease. Not sure whether I just chose poorly but I would be reluctant to eat here again or to recommend it.

Had aloo prante and a samosa, both were very tasty and just the right spice

Food isn’t half bad. Hot dogs are proper sausage, but the chips let it down a bit for me. 40p for a tiny pot of ketchup is ridiculous though.

Staff friendly and food excellent

Me and my dad come here every week for fish and chips and tikka naan wrap. The food is absolutely lovely, nice and fresh. The staff are pleasant very helpful and polite, very clean and tidy, would highly recommend.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS Given one star because no option to give none. I have been hear a few time and not had any issues but on my last visit the food was awful, the some of the staff are rude. It's such a shame this could be a great place / business.

Been twice know and food was excellent.

The service was fast and friendly. I had the Chicken Curry Pot and was amazed at how authentic the dish was. It immediately took me back to my childhood in Durban, RSA which has the largest Indian community outside of India. Mass produced curry sauces that all have the same taste and texture is almost unheard of in this community. Originality is king. Salt and Vinegar is top class when it comes to great value for money.

Just had gluten free fish and chips at the Salt and Vinegar in the Orchard Centre food hall, Canteen area in Coventry. Brilliant. Very tasty. As a coeliac, I can recommend it. They do do take aways too. 👍👍👍

Stumbled across S&V while deciding what to grab for lunch... and so glad we did! We had the Chicken Tikka Wrap, Paneer Wrap and Aloo paranthas... Yumtastic food. Authentic flavours and friendly service.

Had a battered munchbox and was really nice and great portion size. Polite and friendly staff too would recommend!

The food here is really good - give the curry pots a try! Very friendly staff and a nice chill atmosphere. Food can take a while to arrive, but it’s worth the wait. I have a nut allergy and they are very accommodating - it’s one of the only places out that I can comfortably eat Indian food, which is really appreciated.

Every time we come here, it is always delicious food and friendly staff. It is also in a very convenient location.
